Xbox One $479.99 Costco YMMV

momshotdad

CAGiversary!
Went to Costco tonight to pick the lady up some cheesecake, and as I walked in I saw they had Xbox One's in stock and the sign said $479.99. I forgot to take a picture but definitely YMMV.

Was this it?

Disclaimer: This is a joke.

Obligatory LOL @ Xbox One has a $20 price drop 2 weeks after the release and they still can't sell.
I wouldn't consider anything Costco sells at a lower cost than most retailers a "price drop". You realize that $499 is the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price". Just because Microsoft suggests businesses sell it at $500, doesn't mean places like Costco can't sell for cheaper. You also have to take into account that at $499, Costco is making their profit. M$ might sell companies Xbox Ones for $425 - meaning that every console sold generates $75 in profit to the business.

He said he was joking :) Not a bad price, but if you don't pay tax on amazon, probably better to buy it from there.

I can't tell you the exact cost of an Xbox one but I bet it costs Costco at least $450-480 per unit, maybe more. I read somewhere on CAG that the PS4 is $383 for retailers and retails for $399. Retailers don't make much on profit on most big ticket items such as video game consoles. digital cameras, and laptops. They make huge profit on the accessories though. I don't know if they still are but Best Buy employees used to pay 5% over cost. You could get a nice HDMI $50 Monster cable for under $8 but when the PS3 came out it was only $11 cheaper for an employee. I used to work in electronics at Target and we talked to the employees from Best Buy next door all the time. I then worked in a camera store and it was the same thing. Less than a 5% profit on most digital cameras but a 40-70% profit on accessories such as cases and memory cards.

Weird that XB1 is still getting it's chops busted. For all the talk about how PS4 was so far ahead on preorders, OMG M$ izzz dying!!!, No used games!!!, OMGZZZZ - da XB1 izzz $100 morezzzzz than da PS4!!!!!!... Sales are pretty even...

VGCharts says 1.6 million for XB1 and 2.1 million for PS4 - and the PS4 was released 1st... So where is this huge inequity that was supposed to have taken place???

Crazed,

You have to also realize that Microsoft has sent 7 shipments of Xbox's so far and Sony has only sent 2 shipments so far.  I think if both system released with 4 million units the PS4 would be sold out and the Xbox one would still be available in all stores.  Most retailers say they get 100+ requests a day on PS4 and less than half on the Xbox one.  I did not believe it til last week at my Target store as they got 4 Ps4 and 1 Xbox one.  The PS4 tickets were handed out at 7:30 and were all accounted for.  The Xbox one was still available at 10am.  Now I am not a PS fanboy I am just stating the demand for the PS4 is way greater than the Xbox one currently.  Having both I play the Xbox one more because it has one more game than the PS4 but honestly both are disappointing so far.

I don't see much anti-Xbox anymore even from most of the pro-Sony people who were trashing it months ago. Only the losers are still at it.

You got to look past the smoke and mirrors that some people put up and look at real data. Like Knack apparently outsold Mario 3D World, which people read as Mario being stale or PS4 demand is just that high. These people also overlook that Knack released during 2 B2G1 sales, was a main exclusive on a popular launch and Mario was fighting off several other big games over the same period of time.

The same is true with the Xbox One. From what I understand, the PlayStation 4 ORIGINALLY launched in 2 countries (United States and Canada) and the Xbox One launched in 13 countries. To date, the PlayStation 4 is not out in Japan, which is their main dominate area, though the Xbox One is out in the United States, which is their dominate area. So in terms of numbers, it's great they're both doing well. However, in terms of reach, demand and overall interest... it's apparently lower.

Where the heck did you get proof of 2 shipments for PS4's? Target and Best Buy have been selling them on weekends. They have been getting them weekly.... they just sell out immediately. People have reported they make announcements over the intercom that they have PS4's and sell out within 5 minutes.

This thread turned into a huge turd pretty quick.  There's a deal for Xbox One's at Costco if you want one.  Costco sells everything under MSRP.  If it doesn't happen during the holiday season, you can be damn sure that Costco will have PS4's for below MSRP at some point next year.

For those who are not aware, Costco sells at wholesale-ish prices. This is NOT a price drop. I don't get all the anti-Xbox stuff either.. for what it's worth I think the X1 has much better launch exclusives than the PS4. I'll take Dead Rising 2 and Forza 5 over Killzone and Knack anyday.

Anyway, I suggest ya'll head over to Amazon and avoid taxes if you can. In my state it's about $34 worth of tax compared to buying it $20 cheaper at Costco. I'd be saving 14 bucks buying online and avoiding the cluster- fuck that is Costco (seriously, have any of you ever been in there? It's a zoo).

Are you sure that PS4 isn't out worldwide? They announced months ago that November 29th was the global release for PS4 outside of the US.

PlayStation 4 is out in Europe and other places, but I was explaining that the PlayStation 4 originally launched in 2 regions and thats where 1 million+ of those sales came from. Xbox One launched a week later in 13 regions and "matched" the PlayStation 4. I also know that the PlayStation 4 isn't out in Japan until Feb 22nd 2014, so I brought up that Sony was beating M$ on their "home" turf. However, I didn't care enough to see how many regions the PS4 is currently in, verify that all collected data reflects the European release and so forth. I was just making the point that statically they might look similar, but the reality is a lot different than the data shows.

Any reason PS4 is coming out so late in Japan?

Any reason PS4 is coming out so late in Japan?
They never said this but it's been theorized and is almost certainly true that Sony assumes they've got Japan locked up. That means that their only real battleground is North America. NA is also the largest market for video games and is the area they lost the most market share in last gen to the 360. So they dumped 1 million consoles on the US and are delaying the Japanese launch until next year.

Given the PS4 sales and the fact that it hasn't launched in Japan yet, it's safe to assume that it will sell significantly more worldwide than the Xbox One will and will likely receive primary support with games ported to the Xbox One (the reverse of last gen).

While no reason was given, there are a lot of theories like Blaster Man said, but there is a LOT more to it than what they said.

1) None of the launch titles have much Japanese appeal, so Sony delayed it to get one that had it. Speaking of the line up we got, there was Knack that appealed to the Japanese and thats it. Due to the delay, they now have Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin or Yakuza Restoration.

2) Gives PlayStation Vita TV a chance to shine. Right now Sony is losing to Nintendo on the handheld front, so they wanted to give the Vita TV a chance to shine this holiday season. Especially with games like Tearaway and God Eater 2 coming out / released for the Vita.

3) They're not the test market. Whomever gets it first, gets it first, but also experiences the most problems. By releasing it later, they can fix some things so the Japanese market doesn't have to deal with some of the problems we had to.

4) Sony assumes they can beat Nintendo.

There are other theories, though it's probably the lack of Japanese demo games and the Vita TV.

Sorry to bump a dead thread, but I thought it might be worth mentioning that at my local Costco, they just added a download voucher for Forza 5 to every bundle at no extra cost...trying to increase sales, as it's doing absolutely nothing here. $479.99 isn't bad for that...but here's hoping they add Titanfall too in a couple weeks, haha.
