I noticed today in my updates a "Windows Validation" again. This started last year but was abandoned by MS when it started blocking legitimate owners of the program from downloading updates.

Any concerns about this new version?

I have a question about this. I had my PC built but its not possible to update it since my windows is obviously not validated. I bought a new windows with a new key but now I dont see anyway to put it in. is there a way to change it in my pc itslef or online. I tried looking at the MS site but they only want me to buy it from them online.

why the hell does MS care if you have a ligite copy of Windows of a warez verison??!?!?! Gates wants you to use windows and to believe that its the ONLY OS for your PC. MS makes Billions on other stuff besides windows... Who cares where you get your copy as long as your up and running...that and as long as your not busted by the fbi. :|

It's there, you just have to dig for it a little:

Their bread and butter is selling to businesses, they really don't care all that much about the money from the home users. They know that as long as most people use Windows at home, then thats what they'll use at work. Thats why they take it easy on people, they know that some people would use Linux or something else thats free instead of paying for Windows if they had to. Also, many people at work are too lazy to look up their company's product key when they're doing installs, they'll just find one on the internet and use that. They don't want to piss off those businesses too much.

This Genuine Advantage thing'll get a few people to pay, but otherwise its business as usual. The world's richest man can live without a few of you paying for your copy of Windows.

people are always happy to steal products and use them for free, but when it comes to their own they think the opposite... put urslef in MS's shoes and im pretty sure u wont like it if people are running cracked versions of ur software

Anyway to update with an unvalidated key? Or is there anyway to get mine validated? (I bought the computer at a pawn shop, but the code matches the sticker on the side, which should mean its genuine)

I am not sure what to do, while piracy is wrong, so is monopolizing.

If MS charged a reasonable 40-50 dollars for their OS, I'm sure there would be a large decline in piracy.

If you have the sticker, and that key is now invalid, I'll bet if you call MS and are willing to do what it takes to prove that you have the original sticker, that they would give you a new, valid key.

If anyone needs a new key just call up Microsoft and say that you had to reformat your computer.

The sticker amounts to a proof of purchase, if it says the number on the sticker is invalid, give them a call. The license stays with the computer that the sticker is attached to.
