What is your "must-have" feature in the Wii launch?

With the bad news (confirmed by developers) dropping that there won't be online support for Wii games until 2007, we're seeing the rose-colored goggles fall off of people who were previously excited about the Wii.

My question, for those of you planning on buying the Wii at launch, is what is the one feature of the Wii that you absolutely must have at launch?

It appears that for some people this feature was online gaming. Maybe for you that feature is competent play control with the Wiimote, or maybe it's something like DS connectivity, flawless backwards compatibility with GC titles, or being able to buy a Wii in the goofy lime green color. I guess I'm looking for the feature that, if not present, would make you consider the Wii launch relatively disappointing.

For me, the one feature I cannot do without is the Virtual Console. There had better be good VC games at launch and the Classic controller had better provide tight controls. If this is not so, I will strike down Nintendo with the fury of a thousand harpies.

I'm getting the Wii mainly because, compared to the other consoles, they seem to care the least about online support and play. I used to be an Xbox fanboy with the first console, then when I saw how important Xbox Live was with the 360, I decided to switch over to Nintendo.

My "must-have" feature basically is great games that take advantage of the Wiimote. I'm also really excited about backward compatibility with the Gamecube. Finally, I would like to see a price under $200 if at all possible.

- Wiimote works as it should and the reviews for Zelda Wii say it plays just as good (hopefully better) on the Wii as it does on the GC.

- 200 dollar price point would be sweet, but I wouldn't mind paying 250 if they toss in some VC downloads, a retro controller and Wii sports.

I don't think this is real major. Most gamers getting the Wii are probably already online via LIVE or their PC. Sure it sucks to have to wain until 07', but free is free and I am always willing to wait for free.

As for the feature I'm looking forward to is the price and all the backwards compatibility via disc and the VC.

While I agree with you on this point, judging from a few posts in other threads, online gaming on the Wii is very important to some gamers, even to the point of being critical. That's why I started the thread: I was just curious to know which basket everybody was loading their eggs into.

The wii size of the console. In the land of mumbo jumbo big ass consoles its going to be nice to have a tiny little box that can play thousands of games.

I'm going to go with excellent and intuitive gameplay. That's really it. That's what I'm getting the Wii for, no more, no less. If developers are tacking on motion sensing to a game, I don't want it. This includes the Wiimakes, unless they are in fact better played on the Wii. Considering the trial and error developers have had for two or three years with the DS, there is no reason they need to start from square one. Sure they aren't familiar with the control scheme just yet, but they should be aware now that gamers want a game that is built around that control scheme. If they don't have the hang of it yet, don't release the game.

I like online play, and I suppose it should be a bigger deal to me, but I get more excited about the existence of online play than the play itself. I think the only DS game I've taken online so far has been Mario Kart, for one reason or another. With the Wii I think I would have taken that up a notch, however. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I just want the controller to feel good. The online issue seems blown out of proportion IMO... I mean they DID say that first-party titles would have full online support where applicable, right? So it's basically just a few third-party launch window titles that will lose out on the online support, and I take it a number of those will be multiplatform anyway. People seem to be sensationalizing this and making extreme statements like "the Wii WON'T HAVE ONLINE."

I wanna operate on my TV! I'm gonna get Trauma Center: Second Opinion and Zelda of course. If Wii sports and an extra controller is included, i'll get that as well!

I'm not even giving the thing an internet connection, so I could care less what online features it has.

Since its going to be a popular second console, everyone's (that has two) will alerady have a machine with robust multiplayer features.

A solid line-up of launch games is all I ask for. If Nintendo can have Metroid Prime 3/LoZ: Furries Gone "Wii"ld live up to expectations, one of their other first party titles be a home run, and a few of the 3rd party titles be worth buying, I'll be a happy clam.

Hopefully they get this online thing sorted out soon though. With Wii control benefits AND fully intact online features, multi-console gamers could end up heavily favoring the Nintendo version of a AAA multi-platform title. But for the time being, they may be forced to make a more difficult choice - do they go for the Wii control, or the 360/PS3 online play? (This argument of course assumes that the user has already made peace with the graphical shortcomings)

A Zelda:TP that ROCKS, and the Virtual Console with cheap downloads. I can't see myself spending a whole lot of money to download old games that I've played in an earlier lifetime, so hopefully the price will be extremely reasonable.

And TP will hopefully be as good as Miyamoto says it is. I have faith it will be.

Don't take my OP too harshly, I was just stating my opinion. Though some are basing their purchase of the system on the online factor, I feel fanboys to the newcomers are interested/excited about the innovation.

No offense taken. And that's the point of the thread: somewhere where everybody can state their opinion and give what they're looking for.

I just popped in to defend the online gaming because it's just as viable a "must have" for some people as a black Wiimote is for others. All shapes and sizes...

Zelda is all I need. Then again, as far as I'm currently concerned, Wii online will be about WiiConnect24, Virtual Console, and Smash Bros. Melee, and two of those three will be available at launch.
I'm with you about the Virtual Console. If I had the money around launch time, I'd definatly get it just for that.
Virtual Console? What is that? I've seen people posting that a lot lately and I don't know what it is. People are making it sound like it's something seperate from the actual console. Is it an accessory, just something extra? What?

Online for me and Smash Bros Brawl..., but of course no online. Now I'll only buy it at launch if it is extremely close to the price of a PS2, since I plan on playing all those games I missed for cheap instead.
