Digital River shipped a cancelled order, and doesn't understand why I'm upset about it...

So, I probably deserve this headache since I knew what genuine shit this company was, but apparently Digital River thinks it's ok to ship pre-orders which were cancelled.

A few months back, I was looking at the Mega Man 25th Anniversary statue and was contemplating on pre-ordering it. One thing that kept me from ordering it was the fact that Capcom's online store was run Digital River. I knew of their shady business practices regarding the Ni No Kuni WE and the fiasco with the Square Enix store... but a company couldn't seriously fuck up that many times, can they? So I went ahead and pre-order it and figured I could cancel it later.

Well, last week, I decided to cancel my pre-order, fired them an email, and received a response on the 5th that my order was cancelled. Yesterday (the 11th), I receive a series of emails... one saying my order had shipped, one saying they couldn't cancel my order because my order had already shipped, and another saying they issued an RMA so I could return the item (at my expense, of course).

I'm pretty fucking furious right now. I know for a fact (and saved screen caps) that when they sent me the email saying my "order couldn't be cancelled because it had shipped" is complete and utter horseshit, because UPS tracking showed that my package had not yet been picked up and they could have easily told someone to pick up that package.

I am simply amazed at how this company can be so fucking inept.

I've been very lucky with Digital River lately but I've had some shitty experiences in the past.

Question: Why didn't you just refuse the shipment?

At that point it would be returned to them and you wouldn't have to pay return shipping? I know it should have never gotten to that point but it's not a bad option if it hasn't been delivered yet.

The other thing you could do is open a partial chargeback with PayPal or you CC (depending on how you paid) if they refuse to refund the return shipping costs.

Lastly have you checked eBay lately? I missed the preorder cut-off for these but there was a point in time when they were reselling for double cost.

The item won't be here until Monday, and nobody is going to be home when it's delivered so the package is going to sit there until I get back since UPS just leaves our packages at the door.

I actually didn't bother to check eBay but who knows how low the price will drop to once I get home (assuming the package isn't stolen). It was like $116 after shipping/tax so it won't be much of a flip unless I can sell it for $200.

I've had luck leaving notes for carriers on my door requesting that they do NOT leave packages when I'm out of town... but depending where you live that could alert neighbors that you're gone for an extended amount of time... but I suppose packages on the door step for days at a time would as well...

Hopefully someone will buy the statue off you. If I didn't have more stuff then I knew what to do with I would make an offer.

Flip it on ebay. You can probably get $200 for it.

I was also checking the capcom site and found a cool streetfighter chess set.

http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1944700/productID.252962100/Street-Fighter-25th-Anniversary-Chess-Set.html

That is pretty cool but Capcom grossly overestimated demand. They hyped it as ultra limited but printed 5,000 sets and initially had it listed for $299.99.

Last I checked they still had 3,000 left. I would imagine that eventually it'll go for around $100

Yeah, Digital River is a disgusting company. I feel shitty about wishing unemployment on people, but the company deserves to go under. They perform a shit service and don't deserve to be in business. The companies that use them need to wake up. My only guess is that they must be quite cheap.

Fun update (in case anyone's curious), but my package was returned to them on Monday, the 22nd. I called UPS last week and they came and picked up it and did a refused package return (I didn't know they would pick it up, that was nice of them).

I emailed DR on Wednesday, asking when my money would be refunded and didn't get a response. I emailed them again on Friday and was told that they could not locate my return and asked me for an RMA#. :whistle2:x I told them I did what they told me to do, call UPS and refuse the delivery, and gave them the tracking number showing that it was returned to them on Monday.

I get a quick apology and am told have to wait another 5-7 days for my refund to be processed. Can't wait to see what happens when they forget to process my refund.

Well the fact that they acknowledged a refund is the biggest obstacle. It may take some time but sounds like you're clear.

I'm just so surprised so many companies use them, they have had a bad reputation, even for things that aren't on sale or LE.

I'm more surprised people continue using them knowing full well before hand the problems with them. Everyone who posted in this thread knows about the MGS LE horror story with Zavi yet they still place orders with them thinking things will be different or they think they will be lucky with their package in transit.

I knew of their bad rep and I still gave them my business. This is really my own fault...

I just figured that even they'd know enough to realize that, telling a customer his order is canceled and then shipping it over 3 business days later, is probably not something you want to do.

I'd wager that they much be extremely cheap, given how many big companies use them.
