You know what's fun during drop-ins when you get put on a team that won't play as a team? Just get a game misconduct. Then go do something else. Then come back later and see if your team won, lol. 2-2 with 11:30 left in the 3rd, lol.

I'm trying to figure out how to combine Alan's 2 Way D-Man build with my 2 Way Forward build (or any other forward build that might work better...but I still think 2 way forward gives a very even spread for attribute costs). Anybody who wants to play mad scientist, and tinker around, here are the two builds.

Obviously, if you're making the build for a winger, it's a lot easier, since you don't need points for faceoffs. But I'm hoping to somehow add some hitting to my center, without totally sacrificing defensive awareness (although, I guess an argument could be made that it doesn't do much for intercepting passes this year anyway). Lots of things to consider with moving boosts around to maximize cost efficiency.

I guess?

There's nothing in slap shot, but you should be able to hit with this build. Problem is that my original D-build is based off being Andre the Giant, so with a smaller forward, I don't know if you'll still be able to hit. I am a firm believer though that speed/accel/agility are worthwhile this year though.

Notes:
• Decreased puck control when a player is getting hit, which increases the chance that the puck will be jarred loose
• Tuning to goalie positioning in hardcore simulation to prevent him from overcommitting as much to one side or the other
• Call late hits and charging slightly more strictly in hardcore simulation
• Muted a speech sample that tied Martin Erat to the Nashville Predators

Apparently EASHL uses Hardcore Simulation sliders, so really all these should affect OTP

Damn, that build actually looks pretty good. Maybe a little weak offensively, but that basically makes it the final area to be bumped back up when I hit Legend 2 and 3. In terms of defense and athleticism though, that looks really good. I'll definitely try it out tonight. And actually, yeah...I'll be able to do a little better than that already since that was for Superstar 3, and I'm at Legend 1 now.

As for the player size, those were my thoughts too. When exactly does hitting "kick in"? I guess either one of us could make our 2 way d-man build a bit smaller and see if that nerfs hitting at all...even with the normal 2WD stats. Just going from memory, I'm hoping that wouldn't be true because we've gotten knocked around by guys who weren't always ridiculously huge.

Right now, my center is 6'1" 205. So, yeah...there's a lot of ground to cover between that and 6'9" 240...but I'm curious if you could go maybe 6'3" 220 and still have the hitting without ruining your speed/agility/etc. I'm at least encouraged by your 2WD build because it proves that knocking people down when you're supposed to knock them down IS possible in this game. If we can figure out how to apply it to other positions, I feel like we'll get our physical game back that we had in 12.

And I just realized that the headset I bought was PS3/PC. Sigh.
Just curious, which headset did you get? I want to get one that I can use with my PC, and it'd be nice to have an actual PS3 headset instead of the uncomfortable Bluetooth earpiece I got from Best Buy for $10.

Earforce P11. They're re-certified from Gamestop for $45. Meant to get the X12's for that price, and didn't look too closely at the box (I was in a rush).

Alan, did you play The Stanley Parable demo yet? This reminds me of part of it, lol.

Also, who's playing tonight? I'm just grabbing something to eat and then I'll be on. New headset is here, but my God, the Turtle Beach's are ridiculously sensitive. Now I get why we hear Rob's train all the time, haha. You guys will have to tell me how obnoxious the background noise is, but I feel like I'll need to mute it at least until my daughter is in bed (which is in like an hour anyway).

Haha, yeah. I particularly enjoyed those moments. I still can't imagine what a multiple hour session of that type of experience is going to be like. For some reason, I feel like you'll play through the entire game and then it'll just put you back at the beginning. No ending. No explanation. Just a feeling of being slightly pissed off, but still having enjoyed yourself.

Haha, that's funny. Yeah, after everybody went to sleep last night, Brandon and I did some experimenting.

Wait, no...I mean, we played Payday and I tried to get the Rift running with it. I got the 3D working pretty well using the Tridef driver, but I couldn't get the headtracking working right. So, it was pretty much like playing it normally with a giant screen in front of your face taking up your whole field of vision.

It was kind of cool, but turning with the right stick made my stomach feel a little funny. We did complete the bank heist on our second try though. Trying to force games to work with the Rift that don't have native support is always an odd experience though. It'll be nice when more and more games either add Rift support, or are made with the Rift in mind.

I could play for about 2 hours starting now, but I'm not sure how interested anybody else is.

In other news, I finally got the head tracking working on Payday with the Rift. It made it less disorienting, but it was still an odd experience. I don't really think FPS games are going to be great on it (although having something like the Virtuix Omni might actually help) because trying to play it "legit" and physically turning yourself around is super time consuming and really intense. It would basically turn into a workout...which isn't bad. But yeah, you'd have to go into it with that mindset. Not really a great way to just sit down for some casual headshots. And once you start relying on the right stick to spin around, that's when it starts feeling a bit off.

On the other hand, I also got Euro Truck working with it. And that was badass. Just driving along, looking at my truck. And yeah, when you turn all the way toward the driver's side window, you'll lean out to look backward. The only thing that doesn't work great is to make the game take up the entire field of vision (and add the 3D effect), it has to be warped/rounded so bad you can't see the GPS to see where you need to go. I think Tridef has a way to manipulate the on-screen displays, but I haven't screwed around with those yet. Ultimately, though, it's just another example of needing games that are actually built for the Rift from the ground up. Driving around aimlessly was still a great time though.

Haha, I used to love that game. If they can replicate anything close that that, it would be awesome. Again, though, like the Rift, I'm not sure how great it would be for run & gun firefights. But for tactical stuff and sniping, it should be ridiculous. I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be some gun coming out that works with the Rift as well (I don't think this is it, because obviously the scope would be of no use).  But yeah, for something like Sniper Elite...or a modern Silent Scope, that would be the tits! :bouncy:

I don't think any are truly "winning" anymore honestly. Just depends on how much you want to spend to have fun. I'd rather spend $300 on a new stick, but that's just me.

Well, yeah. Everybody has different things they enjoy and different reasons for enjoying them. Mostly, I was just talking about new ideas and pushing gaming forward (not that a "light gun" is an incredibly new idea...but the implementation and technology in it is pretty impressive). I've heard a lot of people argue that "Console gaming is fine. All I want to do is sit on my couch with a controller, stare at my TV, and space out with some games." And I think that's a completely valid and fair point.

But my Xbox 360 does that just fine. Are we moving gaming forward, or have we reached the point that we're just rebranding the wheel and making people feel that if they don't buy a new console, they won't be keeping up with the Johnsons (in this way, I think they're relying on multiplayer gaming to move systems more than actual new ideas). To be fair, things like the Rift or this Delta Six gun aren't cheap either. But they offer very different experiences, and are options depending on how deep people want to get into it. Hell, we could throw this into that category as well, lol.

At some point, yeah, it becomes overkill. But people get carried away with all kinds of hobbies. After all, how many pairs of gloves do you have, Gary? ;) (Self-damning, full disclosure: I own 6 guitars...)

Sigh, I only own 10 now after I had to sell some but also up to 10 sticks and way too many jerseys. Do I use them all? Nope. I stick to what works sadly. Being a player, superstitions are so insane. I never understood it till I started to play. But yes, Damn Hobbies are expensive!

I got Defiance for PS3 a few months ago when the downloadable version permanently dropped to $10. It's a decent but buggy game. If you enjoy the TV show, that will definitely enhance your enjoyment of the game.

Well so far I feel like that patch made the game a little bit more balanced.  I don't know about you guys for EASHL, but that last tuner set really seemed to FUBAR HUT.  Prior to the last tuner set I think I was something like 4x-11-3 in Seasons mode.  After the tuner set I think I went 2-2x-2.

The most welcomed fix was the faceoff spamming.  It seemed like 90% of the people I played in HUT were doing it.  Then tonight I had back to back matches where the person I played was clearly trying to spam and couldn't do shit.  In the two games I combined for 50-2 in the faceoff circle.

I thought they fixed that when 14 came out.  Also what ever happened to if the player is doing well then they will boost the player in the game, if they are doing bad they will lower the rating in the game?

Yeah, they were all confident that faceoff spamming would be gone...except they forgot to program it right, lol. As for the player boost, if by "doing bad", you mean getting the shit knocked out of you by another player and getting injured, yeah, that works. My rating drops 2 points all the time, lol.

He means the live stats. I remember that as well. I wonder if it's for the play mode now. I'm starting to think hand eye is very important for tip ins as I was playing a drop in as LW and everyttime the LD shot it, I'd get the goal for a deflection or tip in. LD got mad and started to say I was stealing his goals. Also, Thursday night I'll be on as I have a week vacation.

I think that's always been the case, no?

Isn't that how it works when you play d? The forwards screen the goaltender or try for a redirect when at the net.

Sure, when you're part of a team. When you're playing drop-in games, you're a dirty goal stealer. And I should know, given the number of goals I've stolen over the years :)
