Free Stuff - Needs Updating

There are quite a few free and free2play games and mods on steam. You can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

I am more or less playing devil's advocate with Travathian to save him from wasting time and money on a lawsuit. :)

If we go by this standard this game's release date is incorrect also:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/12210/

Should we be also directing our hate and anger towards steam and rockstar for that game also?
That's the Windows release date. It didn't come out at the same time as it did on consoles.

Your favorite game is bland.

Got it. :)

As for anger and whatnot... I think that might be bit overstated but I do think there should be more consistency in the release date. Unless its a new version of an old game it should have the original release date. (Lets pretend that the original Ducktales game was released on the PC all those years ago... If it was listed on Steam than it should have its old original release date while the new Ducktales game should have its current release date... All in all, it IS a new game.)
I do agree that they could be better about the release dates. I had problems trying to figure out the order that I should play the Blackwell games since they all had the same release date listed on Steam.

Also my guess for steam's reasoning for the date posted on 7th Guest is because it is the official release of it on Linux. (As far as I know there has not been a Linux port for it before)

Not that I'm complaining, but it's not really a "port" to Linux - since it runs in Dosbox (and I think ScummVM), it was already available for Linux. I'm guessing Valve is trying to pad the Linux (i.e. "SteamOS") game count with low-hanging fruit.

So not worth it. It was just released in April, wait another 6 months and you can probably get it on sale for like 3 or 4 dollars. Or get it in a bundle somewhere.

What if it's $5 w/ $1 in card rebates and I like to play games featuring some semblance of a soul?

Deus Ex: Director's Cut is comin out at 3am est later!! for only 5 dolla, here i come!!
I didn't know this was a thing. I've been needing to play this game over again cause I never finished it on PS3 before I switched to being a PC gamer. They need to add better AA, I can't make the game look smooth.

About Deus EX HR - Director's Cut...

Upgrade's only $5 if you own Deus Ex: HR + Missing Link DLC.

or upgrade's only $10 if you own ONLY Deus Ex: HR;

or $20 to buy the whole thing, if you own NONE of the DE: HR content.

It's a stand alone title and not like some patch/upgrade right? This sounds pretty cool. I might spend my trading card bucks on this and forget about the original edition & Missing Link I bought and never played.

Oh, I don't know - that's good question!

I don't know if it's just a discount for owning the original and you get a completely added a NEW Entire Entry/Game to your Library;

or if it just adds new content like a DLC/Expansion would;

or if it just takes the old game DE:HR game and overwrites it.

Actually, Deus Ex: HR DX is an upgrade if you already own the game. (I assume) it's only standalone if you don't own it yet, but either way the pricing has been confirmed to be based on whether or not you already own it and Missing Link.

And speaking of director's cuts, Lone Survivor is also getting one, as a free upgrade to those who already own the game. It'll be out on Halloween.

If features upgrade pricing, but I don't think it'll upgrade the existing game. I believe it will be a standalone product even for owners of the original release.

Wow, what a stupid and short sighted thing to do... They might as well fold their studio now and hope they can get jobs elsewhere... but I know if I would think twice about hiring any of them.... and I suspect its very few that are actually involved in this BS.

This is a black mark that's going to stain people...
They definitely should after their "apology" on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/wildgamesstudio/posts/686534728037296

We sent TotalBiscuit a Steam key on September 26th, giving him permission to evaluate Day One: Garry’s Incident.

Monetizing wasn’t mentioned in our communications and it was an error on our part to not have clarified the issue.

It was for that particular fact that Wild Games Studio had asked the video’s removal.

After the video was made unavailable, we have taken seriously the reaction from the community concerning freedom of expression.

We strongly believe in the freedom of expression of people and medias and have removed our copyright claim.

Wild Games Studio didn’t intend on preventing anyone from using their right to freedom of expression.

For this reason, Wild Games Studio sincerely apologizes to TotalBiscuit and anyone who felt that their freedom of speech was denied.

I find TB entertaining, but he does tend to be overly critical sometimes because I guess the angry gamer bit is popular.  That said, this studio is full of such fucking idiotic whiny brats I won't be buying it outside of a bundle, if that.  Magazines, websites, etc. all MAKE MONEY off of reviewing games, products, etc.  That's how any publication gets its income.  For them to claim they didn't want it to be "monetized" is just utter bullshit.  Why else would anyone want to review your game?

Yep. Obvious lie. Do they really think people will believe that? They didn't take down videos from other reviewers who were monetizing them.

When people were farming money in GTA Online by replaying high paying missions for in-game cash, the aspect of the game that Rockstar will be monetizing, the replay button was disabled on just missions, but no other types of jobs, and they claimed it was due to a bug. Fortunately, the bug was fixed at the same time they decided to rework the payouts for the missions so that farming them wasn't nearly as useful.

Don't lie to (potential) customers. It doesn't work.

Plz bring anything w/ MP over to Steamworks!

I so would like to buy RE:ORC, Lost Planet 2, and some of their other G4WL-required games that I'm missing.

If they get switched to Steamworks-only, I'll be looking to buy!

They could've done a lot better in that sale last week if they already had it sorted out instead of keeping all their stuff in GFWL limbo.

I hear Red Dead Redemption and Bayonetta are getting ported to PC, and they will both use GFWL until July 1 2014 and they will then drop GFWL and use a combo of secure rom and tages, with a dash of starforce with a 2 PC activation limit and require you to always be online.

That's weird, I heard they're getting Mac only ports, and that it will be utilizing a GFWL knock off called Games for Mac Live.

Most of you probably don't care about this game.. but I think it's weird that it got a Mac port, but not a Windows port.. and won't be coming to Steam.

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-SEGASSTM/sega-superstars-tennis-mac

I enjoyed it on 360 and I'd probably buy it on Steam if they ever release it for Windows + Steam.. This is one of those rare occurences where a port is Mac exclusive.

Sorry if this has been discussed before
