I know I poop on a lot of stuff (since I hate most AAA games) but MysterD is the anti-me.  Best to just ignore both of our opinions as outliers.  If we agree on something... well... it might just be good!

I'm one friend short of qualifying for the Steambox fun. If someone would friend me I'd greatly appreciate it. My ID is dexterdouglas.

Yeah but you like everything. If I made a game called 'Bob Reads the Phone Book' it would be GOTY candidate. :D/
Sure, I do like lots of games - even despite a pile-worth of minor flaws or just few minor flaws.

There's only one game worth me even mentioning as my 2013 GOTY Candidate right now - and that's Bioshock: Infinite.

Everything else released this year on the PC has paled in comparison to it, IMHO.

Bioshock is my goty, as well. Haven't played the other games that most people would probably place in front of it, though (Last of Us and GTAV).

I think some people (myself included probably) are prepared to be more "generous" with their opinion of games because they recognise and appreciate the effort that went into creating them, even if they don't turn out to be that good. That, and the fact that you know someone, somewhere loves the game, even though you can't for the life of you figure out why. YMMV

Since GTA5 is not likely coming to the PC until at least early next year in 2014; and since Last Of Us is a Sony-exclusive - it's really making it quite easy for my GOTY 2013 to possibly end up staying as Bioshock: Infinite.

Last year (2012), I had no clue what my GOTY was going to be - until I actually played Dishonored.

Yeup, I highly doubt anything will beat bioshock out for me. I rarely pre order games, but I love the bioshock series, so this is one that I did. I was SO psyched for it, and it didn't let me down. Can't wait for burial at sea to come out, it'll give me a reason to jump back into it. I wanted to run through it on 1999 mode, but there were so many other games to get to that I said screw it.

To me Bioshock Infinite is the poster child for overrated and overhyped AAA games.  Banal FPS with a pet that follows you and throws you ammo and healing potions complete with 2deep4u Ken Levine storyline.

Yes, while I do remain critical and can pick out flaws easily - a lot does depends on other things a game does. If it does something amazing, new, revolutionary, or evolutionary - I can often be a bit more generous w/ those titles, yes.

Thing is, though - if I like something, I can usually figure out why. ;)

Certain things and features speak to me - good stories; good characters; good game-worlds; good music; good voice-acting; good graphics; open-worlds w/ lots to do.

For genres, these speak to me - "normal" RPG's & ARPG's; shooters + FPS's + TPS's; survival-horror games; "pure" adventure game; and action games.

Strategy-games have always been the barrier very hard for me to often break, though. I dunno - not always my cup of tea. Or, I really ain't found that particular strategy game to get me into the genre and that gets me going crazy over the genre.

Honestly, I ain't expecting much really new here in Batman: AO - since Rocksteady ain't behind the game developing it & especially since it's only been around 2 years since the last one was released (Arkham City). I do expect "more of the same" - just kind of like what I expect in a new Call of Duty iteration each year.

The thing is - I doubt I'll be jumping off the roof here saying, "OMG Batman: AO sucks," once I actually play Arkham Origins. I could be wrong, though - but, I doubt it. ;) The game's gotta' be hella-broken in most aspects for me to go ahead and say something of that like & ilk.

I really enjoyed the story; voice-acting; characters; and game-world of Infinite.

The combat here was surprisingly much better and more visceral than expected, this go around from Irrational. I wasn't sure what to expect there in Infinite - since I thought Bioshock 2 was possibly hitting the ceiling for combat & gameplay in a Bioshock game. It's too bad Bioshock 2's story, characters, and re-used assets just didn't really do too much to get me immersed into it like the original Bioshock actually did. In Infinite, I especially loved the whole open-spaces in the skyline-riding areas, as well.

And honestly - while I'm at it, I think Minerva's Den was a much better Bioshock 2 experience than the actual base-game; especially on the story and characters side of things.

Hey, you can do your awards however you want. :p

When I do my GOTY picks, for the Main Awards section - I pick games from the actual year of its release. For example - I usually start my picks in 2013, but don't finish my picks for 2013 say until very Early 2014.

When I do my yearly personal game awards, I do Special Awards for other things - awesome things and dubious things. One that I often do is "Best Game That I Should've Played Sooner Award". Namely, that's for game(s) that weren't released in the current year, but were released WAY sooner - and I didn't play them until this current year.

Really? No Durex RIghts Management?

(I'm a little sad that every discussion of the virtues of multiplayer in this forum degenerates into sex talk.)

Based on everything I've read, there was really no reason to pre-order this or do a day one purchase (as with most everything else). My experience with the previous Batman games taught me that, even though I love Batman and they're fantastic games, if I had waited about a year, I could have gotten them (sometimes in GOTY versions, because that phrase means much less than it used to) for sub-$10. By this time next year, or sooner, B:AO will be sub-$10 and I've learned patience.

Especially because I don't have any cardz from AC yet and I have quite a few of those annoying Riddler trophies to find.

Yeah, I think most games ain't worth buying week of release or worth pre-ordering either. Many times, it's b/c business practices are just not-so-hot for early buyers. With games planning to often have tons of DLC; possible re-releases later w/ ALL DLC; inevitable and major base-game price-cuts very quickly; many different digital outlets battling for having the best price; most games shipping w/ some sort of DRM that likely won't be patched-out; games often being released feeling like Beta-in-a-box; games often needing a bunch of patches behind them to fix any sort of balancing, broken quests, graphical, gameplay, stability, technical, or any other issues; and any more reasons that I can actually think at the moment - the industry just keeps finding ways for me to want to wait for the inevitable price-cuts.

I think the only real Batman: Arkham DLC that I was ever half-way interested w/ in the Batman games was Batman: AC - Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC, which I haven't gotten yet b/c my damn old Batman: AC key (it's a 5x5 key for G4WL) from my purchase of it over EA Origin still ain't activating up on Steam.

Pretty much this. I was unsure on the costume at first but Its really growing on me. I also so far really like the voice acting thus far.

If that ever happened I think the world would explode :whee:

Yayy having bought dat flashpoint bundle can't wait to get my kyntt on
Having played most of it on PS3...it's pretty weird, and not in a particularly good way. The story in particular is very uneven, and about halfway through the characters start cursing up a storm for no reasons. There is also hardly any direction, so if you have a tendancy to get lost in games you probably won't finish it (this is magnified by the fact the world is HUGE, and much of it looks the same). I guess it's worth looking into since you already have it, but I'd keep my expectations low unless you already love Nifflas games (Nightsky, Sairi, etc.)

Damn, too bad. Oh well, I'm just happy because it's sort of a free game, in a way. I got it in the flashpoint bundle, but never felt like making a desura account, so never activated it. So the Steam key is pretty sweet. Schmanks for the mini write up though.

Just discovered a game I didn't know I own has cards, Risen 2. Now I have to install the game, I don't wanna take any chances using that achievement manager thing.

I've only played the free table (Haunted House) on Android, and while I don't think it's as good as Zen Pinball, more pinball games & tables on the PeeCee is always a good thing.

Re-releasing classic tables is something I can get really excited about. I checked out the announcement and found that one of my all-time favorite tables is being considered for Kickstarter: Hell yeah!!

Check back here for a new Pinball Arcade Kickstarter, possibly The Addams Family

It's not really real time. 1 mile in game is probably about 1/10 of a real mile.
so, pot time?

Okay maybe two cents since it's 3D and not 2D.

context: He had a Radical Roach key up on the buy/sell thread for a penny for 4 months before someone bought it.
I almost bought it from him even though I had it already because I felt bad for him.

apparently subsoap is around, just received this email

I apologize for the delay in news from us this year. We have spent most of the time working without much else happening. More news will come for FaeVerse Solitaire at a later date. It's still our primary project. I've personally logged more than 10,000 hours on it doing various disciplines. It is a very important project to me, and I absolutely want to get it right. Your continued support means so much to us.

Today we are releasing a new digital toy for all ages called FaeVerse Song. It is a toy my brother Matthew, who is now working with the rest of us full time, and I made together as a lighthearted weekend project (which took a few days extra to polish). You can try the online version for free here: http://www.subsoap.com/vault/play/faeverse-song/

Currently the project is available for Windows, Web, iOS, and Android: https://account.subsoap.com/games/faeverse-song

Mac and Linux builds will be up soon. We want to work on this project again in the future and add more useful features. If you have feedback please let us know. We will very probably make and release more small projects like this from now on when we need a break.

If you ever need to contact us you are always welcome to do so. You can reply to this message, or send e-mail to [email protected] and we will get it to the right place.

Happy Early Halloween!

Guessing it has something to do with the name of the company that wrote the requirements. ;) AMD may not have had a chance to optimize drivers for the game yet, which would certainly hamper performance.
Aren't official requirements done by the publisher?

Though, trust me, I get and agree with were you are going with this... Hell, I even went and looked At Batman: AO to see if the requirements where as skewed as CoD where... There not. Both min and recommended numbers are likely as close as they could be considering the different architectures involved.

Granted, I wouldn't expect AO to pushed graphic card sales as much as a FPS would/should... I truly suspect the requirements are inflated in the hopes of luring people away from AMD... I'm no ATI/AMD fanboy* and if I was going to buy a new card today (I likely will be soon) I would go with an NVIDA card and Im sure I'm in the majority... And that its a very strong majority.

* The crazy thing is I'm pretty sure my last NVIDA graphic card was a Viper 770... (As I said crazy.)

Am I wrong, or is there only one Chess game on Steam: Check vs Mate ....?  And even that seems to have poor user reviews.

Why can't Steam get something like Pure Chess?

Out of nowhere, I find myself interested in playing 1080p chess with my newfangled AMD video card.

Just finished Narco Terror on the highest difficulty with a friend, took 3 hours. $1.87 is the max price anyone should pay.. game is riddled with bugs. Turrets kept getting bugged for me. Whenever I used one, it immediately exited the turret and wouldn't let me use it again. Might only be an issue in co-op, but it's annoying as fuck when it consistently kept happening. There's other typical bugs as well, like freezing/crashing randomly. Also has some random framerate issues, didn't happen much for me though.. mostly occured in the first level. Framerate was mostly fine after that. Story is almost nonexistent, but I came into it expecting that. Lag in co-op is bad when it happens (and it will happen..), but it's not that frequent. Whenever my friend and I lagged, the game slowed down for about 5 seconds, then sped up 400% the next 5 seconds, so you probably have a 50/50 chance of dying in the process. The checkpoints in the game are frequent though, so it's not that much of an issue (and you have unlimited continues).

As for the controls.. both KB/M and gamepad have pros/cons. It's easier to aim with mouse, but they make you use the standard windows cursor to aim (I'm serious). Grenades are harder to aim with KB/M, it throws them in whatever direction your facing, while you aim using the analogue stick if you're using a gamepad. Selecting weapons takes longer with gamepad, as well as selecting the special ammo you want to use. Guns/Ammo can be selected using the scroll wheel and number keys with KB/M. Overall I don't think they put too much thought in controls. The action in this game is fast, and having to go through another menu with gamepad to select guns/ammo attributes takes too long.

The gameplay isn't terrible, but it's not that good either. The ammo attribute pickups seemed useless to me, in hardcore (the highest difficulty) everything dies fast anyway so there's not much point in using them. The gun variety is limited, you get 4 guns that come with unlimited ammo (and are upgradeable), and ocasionally you'll come across temporary super guns that do a lot more damage. The problem is, the temporary guns don't last long enough, and you won't see them enough.. so there's lack of variety in what you get to use.

The game isn't too bad for $1.87, but I would recommend getting Renegade Ops as it's superior in every way.. and around the same price during sales. BTW, if you're planning to play online co-op.. when you start the game, "quit" to exit to the menu first. It immediately starts a singleplayer game the first time you launch the game.
