Free Stuff - Needs Updating

There are quite a few free and free2play games and mods on steam. You can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

I might be tempted to pickup Shadow Warrior if it hits an acceptable CAG-like price in future Steam sales. Has anyone had any experience with it?
TB's WTF made me put it on my wishlist...

The Bridge for 70% off is actually a tempting offer from the weeklong deals.

Indeed! Having Shelter in the bundle certainly makes it enticing.
Damn these tempting pre-sale sales. :headache:

Groupees Be Mine X coming soon

  • Electronic Super Joy
  • Last Knight
  • Shelter
  • Call of Juarez
  • Legends of Dawn
  • Face Noir
  • Finding Teddy
That's a pretty nice list.

I'm diggin' the Face Noir, Shelter, Call of Juarez and Electronic Super Joy selections. Legends of Dawn not so much. I have no opinion on Finding Teddy & Last Knight, Greenlight games?

Edit: Last Knight (has been Greenlit) & Finding Teddy are both on Greenlight games.

The majority of those games that I don't recognize have abysmal metacritic scores. I know that doesn't mean much, but here's hoping that the dollar tier is decent!

Read the Verge article, pretty interesting. It surprised me that they say the Steambox is targeting existing PC gamers.

I need to quit browsing the Ubisoft forums, how can someone be this stupid? Where does he think the key site got their key, assuming it's legal in the first place? :whistle2:|

This is exactly the reason why neither Ubisoft nor Steam will get my money.
I will legally buy a game key of a pre-order of Gold Edition, and then activate it.

Yes, by that I will not be supporting the developers, rather the 3rd party key site, but that is simply my way of saying "I'm not buying into this crap."

Huh? The only one that's terrible is LoD, unless a 6-7 is what you consider abysmal -_-
6-7 is the new fail. Everyone thinks good or better games deserve 9-10 nowadays. The "5 is halfway on a 1-10 scale" days are long past.
To me, anything above an 80 metascore is a game that generally goes on my wishlist unless it just doesn't strike me as something I want to play or I have zero interest in the genre (typically racing or sports games). Anything between 70 and 80 is more per game basis, unless it's an RPG. Pretty much any RPG in that 70-80 frame goes on my wishlist. Anything below 70 tends not to make the cut, unless for some reason I have a special interest in the game (played a prequel, really interesting art style, etc), or if there's an insane deal I can't help but resist. There's too many games out there to extend beyond those criteria, IMHO. I kind of look at the 1-10 in terms of video games as more akin to a grade you'd get in school than you would typically w/a 1-10 scale. Like, 10 is a 100 percent 9 is an A, 8 a B, 7 C, 6 D, anything lower's an F. With the way people tend to look at review scores, it makes more sense that way than looking at a 5 as being a theoretical average.

I mean, this is more a rule of thumb than a definitive guide. But I tend not to want games that get scores below 60, for the most part, because they look crappy anyway. But if there happened to be a game that scored a 1 but I thought it looked good, I'd buy it once it hit my price point. I shudder to think what a game that scores a 1 would have to be though, considering even RTH Retribution got a 16.

Oh, I agree. It just irks me. It's like, why don't they just use a 1-5 or 1-4 scale if you're just gonna say 1-5 are all equally bad. With the way current reviews are, your game is either internet acceptable (7.5+) or shit (<7.5). I never liked it in school either. (For the record, I was either a A-B or straight up 0 student.)

I can agree with to an extent, I just think abysmal is too a strong a word for what is likely only mediocre, and possibly worth playing. Abysmal to me is stuff in the

Ahh, agreed w/that. Although I'll have muted interest for a game that's between a 60 and a 69, it's still interest. Abysmal is a strong word and should be reserved for games like ride to hell.

Why would anyone refer to the swan song of the current generation of systems as abysmal? Must be those gosh darned hipsters again, dissing the best games just because they're not indie.

Just received this in an email from IGS:

As of November 19th, the Steam loyalty discount for Cognition, which allows you to purchase the full season at a discount if you own some of the other episodes, will be no longer available. If you own individual episodes of Cognition and are interested in making full use of the Steam loyalty discount you’ll need to purchase the full season there before November 19th!

Project Zomboid releases this Friday and will receive a 50% price rise (if I read Twitter right) as it comes out of Alpha.

If you want in at launch, buy now direct from the dev at http://projectzomboid.com/blog/buy-download/ to get the reduced price. I bought a while ago, it have me a Desura key which can then get you a Steam key.

Now that's enough money saving tips. I'm going back to watching bad boat film, Ghost Ship.

that is pretty shitty...

Wow and Valve told them they wouldnt sell their tables in the Steam store..

I'm surprised that Valve let them do this (unless it still goes through Steam under the covers). That was the whole fight between Valve & EA regarding in-game DLC purchases.
Farsight's DLC scheme is rather convoluted. You can buy packs of 1-2 tables, or you can buy PRO versions of those tables, or you can buy one or two Seasons (10 table packs), or you can buy a Season of PRO tables.

The Steam store folks probably just took a look at that and said, "No, you guys can handle that shit."

Most importantly, this means I need to scrape up $60 worth of funbux. Anyone want to buy some Vintage Jarate?

Valve is very supportive of in-game purchases. Besides Pinball Arcade, there are plenty of Paradox games that also have an in-game store, featuring content not otherwise advertised on the store page. Clicking on a link to purchase content from within a game kicks the user to a Steam shopping cart with the requested content placed inside. EA objected to Steam getting a cut of their DLC revenue, which is what really caused the rift between the companies.
