Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

I'm not saying that the xbox one flopped because the PS4 could do worse when it launches later this week in the UK. Just that I'm shocked by the number since I expected the xbox one to sell way more than that since the X360 dominates the UK right behind the USA.
And didn't it come with a free copy of Fifa and a mode that isn't in the ps4 version? That's like if a console came with a free copy of COD or Madden in the United States. But if it sold more than the 360 at launch I don't see how it can be construed as a failure.

in the end united states is xbox biggest market no question about that so that means x1 sold close to 1 million in u.s and not far behind ps4 like people were thinking

Yeah. The free FIFA I figured would be huge. Let's see what the PS4 does.

Probably not. Don't forget about the other 11 markets where the Xbox One also launched like Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, and Spain.

Exactomundo!

We were kind of scared at first, we started with one game, CoD Ghosts, and that worked perfectly, then I added my season pass to my "home console" (hers) and redownloaded on her "home console" (mine) and we've both been playing together at the same time, so we expanded to Forza 5, and Killer Instinct.
That's not "the sharing thing" that they were talking about before launch. Xbox 360 has been able to do what you describe since it's inception.

Not sure what you are trying to say about the PS4 but Xbox One also launched in Canada too. It just look like they couldn't produce enough Xbox One system to be launching in 13 markets at once.

Saying that something sold at a set number is fair and reporting a fact. On the other hand saying something sold only a set number is being biased and twisting the fact. That person, like many news outlets, are trying to persuade you in how you view the information. That would be the correlation of a troll.

It was YMMV...we tried that on our X360s, XBLA games worked great but certain games would not work....specially season passes, never had any luck with DLC.

This decision may have been a miscalculation on Microsoft's part. If it ends up translating into plenty of sales in Europe, then it will have been worth it. But I have trouble believing that a week-long advantage with supply constraints will make a significant enough difference. It might ultimately prove to be a mistake.

While a global launch is something to brag about, it is less focused and targeted. I'm impressed with Microsoft's logistics, being able to ship a million units across 13 territories is impressive. But Microsoft didn't need the XBox One to sell across all of those territories. If I were them, I would have focused the release on North America. An argument could be made that they should have focused on Europe instead. But I would have focused on NA due to Sony's actions.

Sony committed their entire initial run to NA. They did this because NA was the one territory that the PS3 saw the most competition in. The PS3 managed to outsell the 360 in Europe, and it wasn't even a contest in Japan. But in North America the PS3 fell behind early on, and stayed there. NA is the one territory that Sony has the most to gain from, and they are committing extra supply to that territory to press their early price advantage as much as possible.

For Microsoft, NA is their home stomping grounds, and the seat of their sales prowess. They even seem to have designed the XBox One to cater to NA's television infrastructure. While they are more secure in this territory, it is also where they have the most to lose.

I wonder if eventually it will be possible to rename your Xbox in your profile, so instead of saying "xbox ON" you might say "Dave ON" or "Robbie ON"
I like that idea. I've always named my various computers after fictional computers and AI constructs. Some of my favorites are HAL 9000, Skynet, and Shodan. You'd think sci-fi writers would come up with a few computers that DON'T end up murdering everyone. "Shodan, ON!"

Yeah, I can't do anything to get the Xbox to turn on with voice. Everything else is probably 90-95% accurate but it will not turn on by my voice.

Are you sure you have it enabled?

The old Kinect wouldn't recognize my 6 year old, and this puppy does, he gets all excited "Daddy can I turn it on this time?".

Ran into a glitch with battlefield today. Been playing multiplayer and single player since Friday, today I wanted to play SP and my progress has been reset, like I never played. What gets me is the tags you collect are still showing that I got them. I was on mission 5 and I have to start all over again.

that has happend to me 2 times and just tonight i was like 20 mins from end of game and game crashes and the mission progress buged out and made me start the mission over that took me almost over a hour to get to point i was at i was like heck with it. Seems like this issue is going on with every version of game not just x1. I just looked online t osee what ending was seeing i really was not enjoying the single player at all i think bf3 was better.

I've discovered that when attempting to type a message in all caps, every time I click in the left stick and type 1 letter, it automatically switches to lowercase.

Quick Ryse update.  I'm not far in, only into level 4, about 1/2 way through, and about 3.5 hours in.  I still love this game.  I'm really enjoying it.  First off, the combat is nowhere near as bad as 90% of the reviewers claimed.  Going for combo chains and the like is challenging and engaging.  If you enjoy the combat in the Arkham games, you'll like this.  Second, the story is really good!  I'm getting into it and I'm connecting with Marius.  Third, There is some nice progression in your skill upgrades.  Fourth, holy good God, this game looks amazing.  I've only played a couple rounds of multi and found it entertaining.  I don't see it replacing Mass Effect 3 for my multiplayer co-op fix, but it's damn good.

I kind of compare this game to Enslaved.  It has many similarities, actually.  It definitely will be a cult classic.

Question to anyone who got the DLC from the Mountain Dew promo, how the heck do you download it?  I redeemed the codes via xbox.com, but it doesn't seem to be syncing to the X1.

Ryse took me 5 hours to beat on normal. The worst thing was going back on Legendary to see there's no way of tracking all the collectables. Kinda sucks. Legendary is also hard as fuck in terms of dodging/countering everything.

I'm going to work on Dead Rising 3 next.

Xbox One does not have game center yet. I believe It's coming in Jan/Feb.

seems like ms is planning a big ui update around late jan and early feb that will include alot of stuff that was left out including game section and twitch streaming.

i hope it's true because right now the games area has almost nothing on it

Try going to the Ryse game panel on the dashboard. Click on the Start/Menu button, and choose "All Add-ons", hopefully it shows up there, and from there you can reinstall.

Been playing Xbox with a friend the past 2 days.

Killer Instinct is fun accept against Beginner Survival mode that 26 hit comboed me out the gate. Then it did nothing. Then it got bored and killed me.

Forza was pretty fun. I had damage effect driving for a while, but that only seemed to effect me and not drivatars. Don't see the point in that. Especially when I lose so much in one accident that I cant go over 50 or turn for shit.

Other than that we couldn't get the system to turn on by voice but while the system was on the voice stuff worked great. Save when I asked the Xbox to record something.

All other times from those small complaints I have enjoyed the console immensely.

-- Has anyone had controller issues though? In KI i was tapping on the d-pad and would sometimes kick or punch. I seemed to steer right when holding left a couple times with the damage turned off. My friend was touching the bumpers in KI and we found ourselves on the home screen.

One last bit. If you have the Kinect sign on set up and go off camera it messes with the log ins. We switched places and logged out a few times in the middle of fights.

I just posted about the PS4 being in stock at Target, and it seems to be the same for the Xbox One, but the caveat is that this could just be a glitch. There's two listings for the X1 at target.com. One says out of stock and the other says it is in stock. If you go to the in-stock one there is no Buy button, but you can click in the Quantity field and press return and it ends up in your cart and says it will arrive dec 3rd-5th. Worth a shot?

Some thoughts. Overall the system has a great amount of potential. A few firmware updates here and there and this thing will be pure awesome. Voice controls work well enough and are very useful. Controller is very good overall. Games look good to me.

With that being said this thing does have some issues. The bumpers are still an issue in my mind. Being limited to essentially one part of the bumper that you can push easily sucks and in a game like Battlefield where the bumper is important it is annoying. I really hope they redo that in future controller releases.

Party chat/invites/getting into your friends games. What were they thinking here? I can only speak for Battlefield but they are absolutely terrible. You have to hope that your xbox auto invites people in your party to your game and its made even more frustrating with BF's server issues. Just getting the party chat to work was hard enough as it is. As it currently stands I don't see anyway to join a friends game in progress. Why?

Yeah the invite system for games and chats, and the notifications of friends etc needs to go back to the way it was on 360. I just saw a chat invite from Saturday I never knew about.

I'm feeling the same way about the new party and invite system. How could they ruin something that was so perfect on the 360? They literally went backwards, it's inexcusable and they better fix it.

They seem to listen to the masses so I'm confident in 6 months this system is well oiled.
They probably will but I still can't believe they thought this new system would be a good idea. One of the big reasons I got an X1 first was because of the vastly superior online functionality and they went and messed everything up. I haven't tried the ps4 yet but I can't imagine it being worse then what the X1 is offering right now. Maybe I'm overreacting a bit but I'm very disappointed with how the new system works.

One thing I'm totally surprised on is the quality of voice chat...it just sounds so damn clear.

I own a X360 Turtle Beach and I was glad to hear that Turtle Beach is working on an adapter, but I'm guessing its safe to assume the voice quality won't be as good with the adapter...right?

.

On bf4 seems like everyone uses kinect mic and makes it sound awful.

Finally moved my X1 into the office. Has anyone else used the TV calibrator? I'm not sure it made a huge difference, but I did tweak several settings based on guidance from the app.

they already said that D.D will be coming in a patch after launch
If you have an a/v receiver the One is already outputting 5.1 uncompressed via PCM or DTS over HDMI -- any modern receiver handles both of those options. I think people get confused thinking 5.1 is DD, when DD is only one way of delivering 5.1 audio (and isn't as good as DTS in the first place). I've seen people going "it doesn't do 5.1" and that's not true.

Obviously if you have certain gaming headphones or devices that specifically require DD, you need it, and that needs to be addressed asap in a patch, but the audio is much less an issue than people think IMO -- at least if you are using any kind of receiver with HDMI (or an older receiver that only has toslink/optical in. DTS has been available on the large majority of receivers for years and at least it's available as an option even in "beta" form)..

Overall, despite all the negative press and online bashing, I think MS has delivered an exciting product that even in this stage has a ton of potential. The voice recognition works great for me -- it's actually very impressive and the Kinect in general is vastly improved. A few updates (would like to see the music player added so you can stream MP3's like you could on the 360 -- is this coming?), a few enhancements (streamline the friends/chat invites as has been said here, add more options to change the backdrop on the main menu, generally make things easier to find, etc), and I think MS is set. Certainly by next Christmas when more people jump into it, the bulk of those things will be ironed out by that point. You'll hopefully have a good array of Live games available by then, not to mention some technical issues with the resolution that ought to be at least better by that point too (I'd expect 2014's COD to be 1080p since the developers will have more time with the system. Then again Ghosts is a pretty feeble game no matter how you cut it, so it's not all the fault of the platform).

Is the XBL marketplace going to allow preorder of games? I got a bunch of free credit I'd like to use to get Destiny, Watch Dogs, Titanfall, and the new Halo. I don't want to end up burning it up on other things.

The general consensus I'm getting from podcasts on the interface is that when Kinect works it's awesome and it does work a large majority of the time, but every time it doesn't, you really don't want to deal with it ever again. And the interface is kind of a mess only using the controller. Hopefully this stuff will improve over time.

Is the one voice thing have to be setup somehow?

Tested it with my girlfriend and she turned it off with her her voice.

So I found a bunch of X1's at Target and have a 10% off coupon plus some gift cards to use so around $400 out of pocket. You guys think it's worth the price right now?

If there are games want to play right now yes. Problem is that if there isn't a game you want to play you're wasting money since there is basically nothing coming out until Titanfall in March

well I would play Forza but thats about it for right now. I got BF4 and AC4 on the PS4 and the other X1 launch games (Ryse, DR3) dont really interest me much. Titanfall and the new Halo are really all I want right now down the road butt I may change my mind on mutiplats. Its really just tempting me cause I have a 10% off coupon good for anything in the store to use as well as $50 in GC's so that makes it about $400 right now which I have a hard time believing it will go lower than that for a WHILE.
