LEGO Deals 3

Parenting fail on every level.
That's how parents are. It's like the Seinfeld episode where he said fuck and now the kid says fuck all the time. But it turns out the fucking shithead asshole mother swears like sailor. 10 years ago my first boyfriend swore all the time, and in a mall some parent got pissed off. He screamed at her because they were in front of us and she went to her children 3-5 minutes before something like "Behave or you won't have the fucking ice cream".

I was on a train with a mom and her two sub five year old children that were screaming and yelling for hours. i was on the phone and was asked "What's that sound?" and I replied very loudly "A so called mother that doesn't deserve to have children, and thinks it's a great idea to just keep giving them more and more sugar instead to telling them to shut the fuck up or they will get slapped". The lesbian next to me was not happy.

Or last spring when the child had a NERF gun and the mom went "This isn't Call of Duty, don't shoot everything" to the 7-8-9 year old. And we wonder why there are school shootings? The parents suck and the children can't understand how to properly act out, or the difference between real or fake.

Anyways, I'm sure the DVD will come with a free something, what does everyone think it will be?

It looked like it would have been fun in 3D but knowing that makes the movie about 75 bucks for us I generally just don't like the 3D image enough to justify the price. I find my crappy home television does better 3D than I get at our AMC for some reason. I was bummed that that was the only way to get the minifig though.

The movie was pretty amazing. It did start to feel a bit like a commercial at times but it his on some pretty big things with my kids. Weeks ago I had a drawn out discussion on sorting our legos in the house and realized I was the bad guy in the movie. I liked keeping thing in organized piles with the proper instructions and she wanted everything sorted by color to just randomly build stuff. Plus, the retro space stuff in the movie was hilarious as I have about 25 ships from 1985-87 that are all gray and blue. I will be buying Benny's Spaceship on on a total nostalgia trip. I may even take a picture with my fleet of Galaxy Explorers. Also, the movie had an insane amount of quick jokes and detailed sets so repeat viewings will yield a lot to lego fans. I generally don't like the ridiculous turn around from the theater to video but with this I'm looking forward to it.

Trying to organize by theme, didn't realize it would be so much work, still have a big chunk of my star wars sets in the boxes.

Skiizim needs more Legos like Big Daddy needs to have kids.

And forget the Lego Movie, did y'all watch True Dectective last night...holy sh!t.

Haha yeah ummm...i dont feel bad about my 1/4th of a closet taking up space with my legos. On the True Detective note...I missed it but plan on watching it tonight, no spoilers please lol. This has me wanting to go ahead and watch it now w/o the wife haha.

The first step is realizing you have a problem. JK Skiizim, I'm jealous.

We didn't get to see the movie this weekend. Had some family in town and had to get some things done around the house. We very rarely go to the theater since it is cheaper for us just to buy the movie when it comes out on disc. This will be an exception to the rule.

Hey now... I would be a much better parent than the majority of the parents in this country for the simple reason if I ever had a child it would be by wanting one and not because I was too fucking stupid to put a condom on and the girl to fucking stupid to take a pill. :p

What is True Detective? (I don't have cable)

Also the local NBC station said the movie only cost 60 million so sequel for 2016 is likely, they will want to milk the franchise as much as possible.

Yeah i mentioned the 60 million budget yesterday. Will definitely make more when they cover the budget in the first weekend lol. True Detective is a HBO show.

I really want to see the movie, but don't think my kids can handle it. The younger one is a year and half old and probably wouldn't last two hours, and the 4 year old doesn't like loud noises (he freaked out at a hockey game b/c of the noise, and I had to leave the local planetarium due to darkness + noise).

I'll just wait for the blu-ray.

My 5 year old is the same way and even my constant ridicule doesn't seem to help (jk). Seriously though he was pretty good as we sat further back in the theater and he is a Lego fanatic so that surely helped. Disneyworld and other movies didn't do much though. He'd generally prefer to stay at home for movies.

I thought you said it cost 80 million dollars. But making your budget back in three days, and your marketing budget back a few later and you will get many many sequels.

I hope it has lasting power like Disney's Frozen has, it has made 900 million dollars globally!

When did this thread turn into an episode of Hoarders ...
When the price drops to greater than 50% off aren't we all hoarders? And my garage looks remarkably similar to Skiizm's pictures, including all of the SW sets in the box. I am just less inspired by SW sets these days. Often I sell them off to pay for more sets, since most just get rereleased anyway.

I started looking at some of the stuff I have and it's tempting to sell, I was contemplating it last night as I was getting stuff organized. I didn't realize how some of this stuff sells for, almost made me want to sell my Death Star II.

I think it was Scorch who said it, I may need to just concentrate on the Original Trilogy of Star Wars.

Only if it's a modular ... I'm all about the rarely seen 75% off :nottalking:

Some of us only have a limited amount of space so I go with quality over quantity.

I have told guys I have dated the same thing.   ;)

*My typos have gotten really bad.*

No, I won't buy duplicates or anything far outside the 2-3 series I currently collect. That said, I'm very, very, very tempted too and more than once over the holidays did I consider going all out for the Galaxy Squad stuff. If I had a storage room like that I'd build an absurd lego city out of it.

Galaxy Squad is one I have resisted so far. I used to just get the castle/fantasy and SW sets. Then I had a daughter and she likes the city and Friends sets. In that time they also have introduced Super Heroes, TMNT and LR, which I should have ignored entirely (except maybe LR, since I have several of the old western sets) but instead I have gotten pretty much every set from those lines. Ultimately owning a house with a garage which had been converted to storage space eliminated the #1 reason to pass on sets, and has gotten a little out of control.

Only reason I have Galaxy Squad is cause Target had some for 50% off during the holidays. I used to build MOC mechs and spaceships that separate to smaller vehicles, so a lot of them were right up my alley.

I still remember building a MOC Exosquad dropship. Hehe. Wish I took more pictures back then, but it was before digital cameras. Been meaning to do MOCs of accurate Exosquad e-frames and Mechwarrior mechs.

That show was so awesome, I used to have some of the toys, I don't have that or my dino riders anymore though. =(

It's probably been reported already but i grabbed ultimate Spiderman for $13.xx at Target. Most other clearance was wiped out.

Saving money wasn't the #1 reason?

I'm happy to say I am only about $1000 down on my Lego hobby after buying and selling. The best part is I could sell everything and make around $5K.

You people are nuts.

I try to just stick to the sets I really want because of space and COST.  I'd buy some cheap Chima sets just for the mini figures, or the 50% off GS sets, but I didn't want them at the time.  I'd love some more Friends sets but they never go on sale.  I'd like the school and the boat and the vet's and barns.  But it's all too much with too many special colors (do we really need another pale yellow?).  Like right now there is a Friends' boat for $42, but tax is a few dollars and I go "Save your money, no more".

That said if I still had Prime I would buy the red NinjaGo jet for $13....

Castle, City and even SW are lost causes to me. They keep redoing SW and City sets making previous ones obsolete in many cases. On the other hand, City has some great construction sets that haven't been brought back and even the farm stuff would be fun (iike the tractor). Another, more inevitable problem, is older City just isn't as complex or detailed looking. I can't pretend to be a completist because most of my collections are partial even outside of lego but I'm highly motivated to take a couple of sets like Monster Fighters and keep them complete. That's also largely due to the sets having at least one flagship (e.g. The Haunted House in Monster Fighters) set. I've seriously considered eventually considering getting just the high end SW sets but even things like the Super Star Destroyer seem unappealing, being almost entirely gray. I'm pretty sure that I'll go complete with The Lego Movie as most of the sets I love and the lamer diorama stuff like Cloud Cuckoo land I can chase down on clearance.

Anyone here with a largely complete series? Friends, Super Heroes, or Batman perhaps?

I have all of the Alien Conquest sets, nearly all of the World City (Last year of old style Town sets), and most of Fantasy Castle (I have all of the first year with the skellies) .

I intend on getting all the LotR/Hobbit sets. I have the older releases, but I'm missing Orthanc, Black Gate, and the ship. I think I have everything else. I think I have most of the Harry Potter sets too, except the first Hogwarts.

I have a lot of the Super Heroes sets, though I largely avoid the movie versions, i.e. Batman Tumbler. But I try to get one of each comic character. I did get the Iron Man set for Pepper Potts.

I'm lucky since I'm not a Star Wars fan, nor a City fan.

I have all of the LotR and Hobbit sets except the newest polybag that hasn't released in the states. I had intended on just getting the sets I really liked and if there were any characters I was missing I'd get that set or find just the character but it turned into getting them all...just in time too cause they just recently retired most of the older ones. I'm doing the same with the Super Heroes Marvel sets (not a big DC fan) but I've done pretty good on them so far. I've gotten to where I'll buy pretty much any new polybag I find, speaking of which my Target just put the new batman tumbler 30300 polys out today.

I regret not getting the Harry Potter sets when the started back up in 2010, but we just didn't have the money at the time and I couldn't justify getting them. I don't really care for the older ones but the newer ones I'd love to get. I probably will end up getting the castle and diagon alley at some point even though it'll cost a fortune :(.

I have all of the Monster Fighters sets, all of the LR sets except the little poly with the train cart, and I am pretty sure that I got all of the Kingdoms sets, if you want to count that as seperate from Castle. So far I have all of the Marvel Super Hero sets, though I don't see that continuing.
Also when buying sets around half off cost is less of a concern, because it is easy to break even or make money if I decide to get rid of the set.

I think the Wargs and Moria sets officially retired recently, not sure what else. I wanted to get the Moria set but didn't want to get drawn into it. I only have Helms Deep and the Goblin King set only because I got them for more than 50% off.

I never got a second Warg set, unfortunately. But I do have 2 Morias and 2 Helms Deeps. Those three are probably my favorite sets (outside of Orthanc, which I don't have).

If you want one, I can swing Wal-Mart. They had a few last week for $35, I don't know if they still have any left.

I have all the PoP sets except one polybag, all the most recent HP sets, and all the Winter Village sets.

Wow, they should just keep it going, it seems to be very popular. That "tumbler" with the bike sounds pretty cool.

How's Chima doing anyway?

I'm severely tempted to get the Winter Village stuff. How many sets are there? only like 4 or 5 right? My wife wasn't particularly impressed

with them though so I need more than just contract work to justify buying anything on a whim.

I actually like the friends sets by design but will be going after modulars and the Lego Movie stuff. I see a pretty big second round coming from the Toy Fair next week with Metal Beard, the Construction Robot, and Benny's Spaceship. Having seen the movie, does anyone see anything else. I was surprised that the movie didn't have much in the way of surprise sets but my 5 year old had way too much fun pointing out stuff he had or wanted. I doubt it would happen but selling the Dog's Head meeting room with a large portion of the master builder minifigs would be epic. I just doubt they could pull off that would require an entirely new licensing deal.

I like the Winter Village stuff, but when I transitioned from a Monster Fighters Halloween display to a Winter Village display, I couldn't help but notice how small the cottage is compared to the haunted mansion. I'd really like to see a large WV set, like a ski lodge or something.

If they did just minifig series of superheroes, I might stop buying the superhero sets altogether (which is probably why they don't).  Other than the quinjet and the occasional bat-vehicle, most of the superhero vehicles and playsets are just expensive add ons.  I mean, I really really wanted a Nova, but I don't think I would ever build the Daily Planet.

Star Wars by design just has too many starships that I wonder how people display them all.  At least with things like City and modular, you can build a city and populate it;  still takes up a ton of space, but seems manageable.  Star Wars just has so much.  Similarly, even though Orthanc still tempts me, I can't jump into that LOTR hole or I'd never come out.

There are 4 sets that are officially retired and they wont be cheap to get on the secondary market, I guess you can include the Holiday Train in this series too but if you don't have that one you definitely don't want to get it second hand. The only one still available is the Winter Market, I'm sure you can bricklink the pieces if you wanted too, The sets don't look like they have pieces that are incredibly hard to come by.

@fujishig: the daily planet set is on clearance at my local target for like $15 off. Might want to check yours this week, or weekend. I'm gonna stop by mine on Saturday to see if it's been marked down further. There was a whole bunch of stuff on 30% clearance last Saturday.

The daily planet is great, probably my favorite Super Heroes set. It should have included Peter Parker though. And now that I am typing it out, it is the Bugle, not the Planet. Dam Supers and their newspaper working alter egos

I'm not a comic book fan but The Daily Planet = Superman, not Spiderman people.

Spiderman is Daily Bugle.  Awesome set.

Yeah, my fault.  I got all confused by Pirate's post, only to see that he was quoting my mistake!  Daily Bugle.  And, as weak as I am, I already bought the Bugle when it had a slight sale some months ago.  I figured Doom, Nova, JJJ and a crappy but unique ultimate Beetle was enough to get it, which is sad.  Same can't be said for Iron Fist and that Doc Ock set, which I'm still agonizing over.  Will we ever get another Iron Fist?  Argh.  But I'll still buy Guardians of the Galaxy...

Seriously, if Flash were available in a small set, who here would've bought that Riddler set with the vehicles?

My local Target doesn't have any legos clearanced at all.  A ton of stuff like Transformers Prime Predaking, though.  I'll have to check around too, though being in LA means it's all been picked over three times by five after opening.

I have the complete Lone Ranger line including the polybags (love me some western) and almost the complete first year of DC/Marvel Superheroes (missing the Iron Man Bionicle, Quinjet, Thor Polybag and the yet to be released in the US Hawkeye and mini Quinjet polybags. Oh yeah, I really want that big Arkham Asylum too, but $150? Out of my price range). Polybags are only ones I paid full price, everything else was 30% off or more. Looks like I'll have to buy a few movie sets and mini-figures to add to the Western set up I'm putting together. My end table is slowly becoming a western town. Which right now is just the Lone Ranger sets with various modifications. I'm starting on a saloon next, I was waiting until I got the right color pieces I need but now I figure I'll just use what I have then slowly fix the color as I go. The old west had blue and orange and yellow in their buildings, right?

Looking at all of those boxes skiizim has...I have my boxed sets under a chair and a couple behind the chair...heh. I Tetris my sets under the chair, so even buying a new set is a game.
