This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Nobody should skip The Orange Box, it is easily one of the best overall games and values of the last generation. Despite the graphics not being as amazing as they once were, each of the games included is awesome. I'm not sure how active the TF2 online still is, but it was one of my favorite games to play online for years. Anyone who hasn't played the Half-Life games should by it right away.

Since if you buy $45 worth off games on Xbox One, you get a $15 Gift Code back. What 3 games should I buy?
Crimson dragon
Halo spartan assault
Lococycle
Max the curse of brotherhood
Peggle 2
Powerstar golf 2
Strider

I'm probably getting Max for sure, just can figure out what other two I want since there are no demos.
How long is this going on for? I'm assuming it'll end before Titanfall comes out.

I feel the pain. I skipped on Condemned for 5 to make sure I still have 8 bucks or so for the final day, just in case something crazy pops up. I just hope that, if craziness arrives, it won't be above 10$ lol.

On a side-note, Saints Row IV will be on sale tomorrow among other things according to the preview. That would be EXTREMELY tempting at a 10$, despite me wanting an all-DLC edition.
I would think it's very unlikely that Saints Row will be $10.

Who gives a shit about graphics. Half Life 2 is still a solid game.

See, the reason I avoided Dark Souls in the last sale is because of how humiliating its predecessor, Demon's Souls, was. There was a lot I did like about the game- its combat is oodles better than Oblivion's- but the game relies a great deal on trial and error, and delights in springing nasty traps on you at every opportunity. I'm not sure I want a second slice of that.

What I'll probably do is wait to see what the last day of this sale has to offer. I'm hoping against hope that Double Dragon Neon is offered... if it is, I'll likely get that and cash out. If I can't find anything to my taste, then maybe Dark Souls, but only if I've got no other options.
That's fair. I'd say Dark Souls is more about being cautious, patient, and adequately prepared. Trial and error certainly is a factor though.

I only watched the first few minutes, but definitely good for people looking to get into the game for the first time. It will help a lot.

Fast forward 2 years later, and Microsoft decides they want to release Lococycle on the 360, so they circumvent the XBLA limit by releasing the game at 2gb along with a mandatory free 2gb "videos & extra content" pack to install for the 4gb XBLA game.

I will never understand why they didn't release Torchlight 2 as a full retail. I would have paid up to $30 (for a $60 release) for a disc version, and that's saying a LOT coming from me.

I remember the original story being something about not enough memory on the 360, but whatever the reason they officially chose to go with, it's all some sort of lie/bad excuse, because: Diablo 3 360.
Diablo 3 has hundreds of developers and millions of dollars in the bank to work on a port 360/PS3 while Tochlght 2 was made for a small development team.

I'm almost thinking about buying Pool Nation at this price even though I never would otherwise. First pang of Steam-Sale-Syndrome I've had in a long time on XBL, maybe ever.

Well, tonight is the last post for this "Ultimate Games Sale", and so far i have only gotten Bastion, Soul Calibur and Bejeweled. I just wish for the last day some Darkstalkers: Resurection, MvC Origins, Guilty Gear or something like that, i would pay 10 bucks if they drop... Then again i don't see that happening.

Who gives a shit about graphics.
I agree with this as more and more games are released. The biggest reason I end up hating a game are due to gameplay with bad control. Having great graphics are the standard, but if the game feels sluggish and doesn't respond well enough with a button press, I want nothing to do with it.

You could always fall back on Persona 4 Arena from the weekly if you want a decent 2D fighter.

What is the deal with Nights? I tried watching some videos and I still don't understand the gameplay.

The sales don't end tonight. Don't they end Tuesday, when the new dotw and possibly a new themed sale happens?

I hope tomorrow's sale is a big finale for me to buy something. I've only bought TWD season 2, Dante's Inferno and Mass Effect (which isn't a bad haul considering my backlog).

On a completely unrelated note, CANADA GOT GOLD BABY!!

God damnit. I'm watching the replay and thought this was the one safe site to go to without spoiling the result. Thanks buddy.

How does it manage to lose the appeal from the first one? The first one never did anything unbelievable, it was just good fun. What did they change that fucked it up?
To me the art style was a tad bit more generic than the original, so the whole game was a little bit more drab and blah. Beyond that they played about the same to me. I'd give the first one a 7 and the 2nd one a 6.5, so they're basically equal in my book.

166 XBLA and GoD on my hard drive, another 92 that weren't on my hard drive when I was banned, making it a total of 258 for me.  I'm down to 50 left unbeaten, 49 after I take care of Space Invaders Extreme later today.

Everybody needs to buy Pool Nation. I'm not big on pool and am horrid at it in real life, but that game is simply outstanding and does a fantastic job of streamlining everything into an easy to understand format that had me pulling off moves I didn't even know existed in minutes!

Also it has some mighty fine looking balls; I'd definitely buy that for $1
Couldn't have said it better and completely agree. That knife edge shot was pretty sick. The swerve shots are hard to pull off, and the power on them have to be just right, or everything goes wrong. I've been trying to do a "sink all 3 balls in one shot" move on the 3-ball bonus round, just to see if I can pull it off. I've seen it done before, but the person who did it was a pro.

Have there been any XB1 sales besides Ryse as part of these daily deals? Thanks.
No, but other games have been on sale. Crimson Dragon, and I believe Powerstar Golf got 25% off sales on various weeks. Then Lococycle got a price drop. That's been it.

Damn, I never knew the actual numbers. Maybe one day before the servers go down, we'll have a supersecret shared account that we can use to download games from on all our separate 360s. What are they gonna do? Ban you from online play that won't exist anymore?

Okay, so unrelated but POOL NATION HAS BEEN ON SALE THROUGH THE SALES & SPECIALS APP AND CAN BE REPURCHASED ACCIDENTALLY.

I haven't personally done this, but I'm kind of sick of it not being shown as purchased on the website, so I was wondering.. for those of you who have accidentally repurchased a Sales & Specials app game. What happens? You contact CS, I'm guessing, but then what? How hard is it to get a refund? Do they take away the game from you so it stops showing up as purchased on the website, or do they just issue the refund? How long does the refund take? It's only $1, so if it'll finally show up as purchased, I wouldn't mind waiting for a refund.. just anything to get these S&S app games bought legitimately already.

It sucks a ton but I had beaten almost all of them, which was good at least. If it was 90 games that I hadn't played I would have been much angrier.
I don't mind going to an all digital age but the one legitimate concern is when a company can arbitrarily lock you out of content you have paid for.

Just in case you don't know, the deal is unique to everyone, so some got offers for up to $20 back and others got nothing. I hope that's not a trend for Xbox One sales in the future.
Interesting. I'll have to check my Xbox One when I get home. I'm assuming it's an ad in the Games Store.

Frisky, I was thinking that this was not a long term plan but rather a "temperature check" for each level of refund. In other words, Microsoft would evaluate and compare the sales for each bracket of refund. If there was a huge difference between 10 and 15, they may not be inclined to go as high as $20. Conversely, if the significant increase does not trigger until the jump from 15 to 20, then we would likely see $20 back/sale (for everyone) in the future.

All right, pool nation... It's the best pool game on xbox and possibly everywhere. Long dual campaign, great visuals and physics, several game modes including endurance. Online might be quite dead but still can play with friends. So do not let this offer pass unless you have no interest at all in pool, don't do it for the achievements, which bte are pretty feasible: i'm at the top of leaderboard in endurance with more than 200 minutes and I know for a fact that there's no need od insane skills to do that, just play the game.

I'm contemplating buying the Orange Box but I already bought Portal a long time ago. Maybe the last deals tonight can help me decide

What about all of the people that got no offer of any kind because they didn't meet the right requirements to deserve it?

It sucks a ton but I had beaten almost all of them, which was good at least. If it was 90 games that I hadn't played I would have been much angrier.
If it makes you feel any better, Apple permanently disabled my iTunes ID last August and they won't tell me why. I lost over 21,000 apps.

MGR has great boss fights and the soundtrack is amazing.
Only if you like Japanese Pop-Metal - or whatever the hell that was.

Soundtrack didn't really bother me - didn't really stand out either. Gameplay was top notch though. Very satisfying game overall, but I do disagree over the boss fights. I didn't like how much it involved repeating patterns and having to parry them (over and over and over and over) I played on normal first run through but on hard those battles must have been more than 30 minutes of the same crap. I've never been a fan of those types of encounters, I wouldn't say it DETRACTED from the game - but for me those could have been done better.

I'm not really a fan of anime (pretty much 100% ignorant of it) - yet that's what some of those sections reminded me of.

I don't mind going to an all digital age but the one legitimate concern is when a company can arbitrarily lock you out of content you have paid for.
That's why I will pretty much never pay full retail for digital content.

I almost wouldn't even want some huge backlog of games (digitally), but that's kind of hard to avoid with steam sales, PSN+, and some of the XBLG sales.

what I hate is when my internet isn't functioning properly, and I'm unable to access most of my xbox arcade/ Games on demand/ indie games... for some reason they only work with an internet connection, which means once they shut down xbox 360 servers i wont be able to access the bulk of my games I paid for?

Has it turned into a chore at all?
Playing through the backlog? No, not yet. I'm pretty good about buying only games I'll be interested in, so even though the games aren't great, most have felt like they're worth a playthrough.

For example, I was really enjoying All Zombies Must Die until the difficulty spiked. So I decided to stop playing, because grinding to level up my character would have started to feel like a chore. The game actually had some decent ideas going for it, and even though I didn't beat it, I'm happy that I spent $5 on it and got to experience part of it.

Assault Heroes 2 was OK throughout, but I played it on easy after I started running into problems in the second zone on Medium. Easy was never overly easy but worked good for me and I'm happy I've beaten it once. No regret on that $2.50.

I shockingly actually enjoyed Dragon's Lair. Played through it 3 times to get most the simple achievements.

Outrun Online Arcade was boring, but I don't like racing games. I spent about 20 minutes with it, got one more achievement, and just decided to move on because I wasn't having fun. Definitely regret that $5, I got sucked in by the fact it was being delisted.

Now I'm on Space Invaders Extreme, and it's been the best XBLA game I've played recently. Lots of fun and enough unique additions to make it an enjoyable experience.

So, as you can see, most games in my backlog I have at least some interest in, so it won't be a chore, especially when I'm able to stop playing when I'm not having fun. There are a few in my backlog that will be chore-like and I question why I bought them (Duke Nukem 3D, Firepro Wresting, Fusion Genesis, Happy Tree Friends) and a few that will be chore-like because of their length and I may just end up skipping them (Puzzle Quest 2, Mars War Logs) but for the most part it's still been enjoyable. I'm at 76,000 Gamerscore and am gunning to hit 80,000 so that gives me a little bit more encouragement as well.
