This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Bruticis' posts seem to have a slightly different tone than they used to, which has gone from making the posts seem completely nasty to now actually making me chuckle on a consistent basis. Either that or I've completely acclimated to him over time. He posted something the other day that made me spit my tea back into my mug laughing as I read it that morning. It's actually kind of funny seeing as my first interaction with him I called him a douche and he put me on his ignore list.
I think sometimes people take shit on the internet too seriously. He kind of reminds me of Rolling Skull. I remember at one point he had to break character and more or less say 'Look people, it's a schtick. It's hyperbole and intended to be humorous. Y so Sirius?' etc.

I try a little, but for me it's a real fine line between getting upset and domestic terrorism (as the prosecutor calls it).
The thing for me with keys is first that a lot of Indie Developers and low rent publishers really do need to be educated about this new fangled Steam thing. Also once one gets away with not giving the keys it sets a bad precedent for other ones. Then developers and publishers will think they can just use us for votes to get their games in and then screw us over.

Once in a while though there's one I actually really want the keys for, like Cinders, that they try to pull some crap on or just act stupid and ignorant and then I admit I totally flip my shit. Luckily they caught on fairly early and I didn't have to go into full terrorist mode. :p

I'm sad that RE4 is finally unlocked now. It was amusing reading all your madman posts about it.
I'm relieved. I was genuinely worried he was going burst a blood vessel or something.

Well, he didn't used to post much if at all. At least not in PC threads. He'd pop in once in a very great while and just post one negative remark about something, before fading back to whence he came. Because of that, he was kind of just annoying and his posts were pointless. Nowadays he's actually posting a lot for some reason, so while his general negative tone hasn't changed a whole lot, I think he's become a funny piece of forum furniture now that he posts more often.

My last two encounters with him, he disagreed with something I said (not even to him) so he just insulted me a couple times before blocking me, completely unprovoked. He's just an asshole and thrives on internet anonymity, but assholes can be funny too.
I disagreed with you and insulted you and blocked you and now we are BFFs.

http://store.steampowered.com/news/12515/

Free weekend for Deadfall Adventures. Game looked pretty cool when Carlmundo played it and it has fire zombies so I am excited to try this out.
I was going to ask if anyone else is giving it a try. I downloaded it last night. My Comcast connection has been kind of shit lately so it wasn't done before I went to bed but I'll definitely give it a go later tonight and this weekend. Free is free and this way I'll know how bad I want it for when it goes on a real sale or deal.

Just wanted to make sure you saw (what appears to be) a dev comment in the Where Angels Cry forum:

"hi guys, we have contacted indie royal and told them that the game is now live on Steam, so we hope they will send you keys very soon!"

...although the wording of that makes me wonder if they realize they have to provide keys for IR to distribute.
Thanks, I just woke up but hadn't had a chance to look there yet. I'm relieved to hear that. Black Soul is supposedly on the way too. That just leave Holy Avatar dragging their feet, but I'm sure something else Greenlight-ish will pop up soon on release.

Surely they can't be that clueless....
You'd be surprised. :fridge:

At any rate, I'd imagine Indie Royale would then be like 'Uh, hi. Yeah you need to actually get the keys for us to give them out. Thanks'.

Someone REALLY needs to write a Getting You Game On Steam Through Greenlight For Dummies guide with a chapter on putting your game in bundles and key distribution once it gets in lined out in clear simple steps.

Damn it, I don't like being compared to Mooby. I was here long before him and have FAR superior taste. He plays and loves truly awful indie "pixel art" games. I've only been posting and interacting more because my previous stomping grounds staged a military coup and had me removed (hard to imagine, eh). I figured since I'm going to make this my new home I should "try" to be slightly more civil to the local wildlife. Who knows, someday I might even remove that idiot guy from my block list (HAHA, no........). At the very least I can continue to dump all my crappy, gross indie trash games. But don't worry, I still recoil in disgust at least 70% of the time reading some of the crap you guys are buying/playing.

Requires the base game Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag™ in order to play.
Ubisoft has a different definition of standalone than I do.

Four in February:

Driftmoon
Unstoppable Gorg
Sol Survivor
Chains
The Plan

Thomas Was Alone

Hands down the game of the month for me is Driftmoon. Sol Survivor and Unstoppable Gorg are decent TD games, but still pale in comparison to Defense Grid. Chains and Thomas Was Alone are pretty good twitchy puzzlers. And The Plan was an interesting non-game.

Who the hell is the market for this stand alone trash? I mean if you like the Assasssin's Creed franchise, you probably bought AC4 or plan to buy it. Who would be the guy that just buys this one standalone piece of DLC?

Possibly someone who bought AC4 on a console but wants this on PC?

That's pretty much the only scenario I could think of.

EDIT: WTH, I'm on that list!?. Who compiled that list just out of curiosity? I mean I assume they got the data from public profiles but where did the list come from/who compiled it? Seems like you'd be a target of random idiots being on the list, I don't like that.

Thanks to Cheaplikeafox for Faerie Solitaire! Yes, believe it or not I didn't have it already. I didn't pick it up when it was free because back then I was less of a bundle whore and still interested in having a collection of only good games on Steam. (Although I know people have said it's not bad, I'm just not that interested.) Then I really regretted it when it was one of the first games to get Steam cards. Between cards and GMG credits though I think I am just about ready to say to hell with standards...I'm redeeming every piece of lingering bundle trash I've got and just dumping them in the permanent backlog category.

I've honestly never gotten it from Taco Bell. I love Taco Bell.
Now you guys are making me want Taco Bell…and it’s not even 10:00 in the morning here.

Woo, caught up with the thread. Fell behind on my Cakeday Tuesday.

Missed chicken chain discussion as a result.

Zero regrets.
Happy birthday!

I see its time to post our Four in February...

Here goes:

Solitaire

Minesweeper

Free Cell

And something else I didn't really beat...

Honestly, I didn't get through anything, though I did spend 10+ hours in Loadout (3rd person Online MP shooter only) and idled probaly about 50 games for cards...

Truth be told, allot of those games I idled for cards could be considered finished after getting the cards from them.

I have a couple of Steam keys to give away. (Most of you probably already have them.)  You must have been a member since 2012.  I don't care if you don't have a ton of posts.  I don't either.  I would rather them go to someone who wants to play the games.  They are:

Time Gentlemen, Please! and Ben There, Dan That!

and

Zeno Clash

Please only request one game.

Thanks

*edit:  Time Gentlemen claimed.

I only have played the first. It can be fun playing solo but is much better with groups. I think you can play with random people or invite friends. I think most of the animosity at NZA 2 was that it came out so soon after the last and didn't change much.
Pretty much. SENZA2 adds a whopping 2 minibosses and 1 new enemy type. No new weapons save for the mounted MGs which appear maybe once a map (5 maps total). Datsed, it's extremely satisfying putting bullets thru zombie brains in slo-mo, and I enjoyed playing both games. You don't want to miss out on the gripping storyline, though, where in the first game, you kill a shitload of Nazi Zombies, but you don't get to kill Hitler, and in contrast, in the second game you kill a crapload of Nazi Zombies, but
you still don't get to kill Hitler. The fucking Nazi Zombies do.

Meanwhile, that stupid Kill Hitler DLC for SEv2 hasn't hit a low price since the pre-card era.

My one in February: Just Cause 2. I'm still working on my review, but TL;DR version: it's hard and irritating but strangely compelling at the same time. The faction missions are samey and annoying but blowing s*&% up is actually more fun than it has any right to be.

Just started Arkham Origins a few days ago and so far I agree with the critical consensus: more Batman is always good but this does feel like a step down from Asylum and City.

Mooby I think is a gamer from another era who can't accept change very well and is enforcing some 1990s era standards and sensibilities and is basically just a 'These danged kids these days and their new fangled games. In my day we spent 5 hours on one turn based battle with a stick figure and we liked it. And GTFO my lawn!' type.

He's got RPGCodex tastes, meaning they hate pretty much anything in the last decade or so, without the total asshole personality that usually comes along with being a poster there.

It's kind of one of those things you look at and maybe want to laugh at or think it's not your thing, but it really is a fun addictive little game. It's one of my go tos when I really don't feel like playing anything else.

I finally made a list! And it's one of infamy. Funny thing is, I have actually been trying to be pickier lately and have some modicum of standards. And no, I didn't buy the stand alone Freedom Cry. I already own the DLC for AC4 as part of the season pass so I'm not THAT much of a useless collector.

Oh and I just activated a couple of keys this morning so my rank probably inched up a bit more.

We're both from the Codex which just happens to be the forum that staged the coup against me. It takes a special kind of someone to get a lifetime ban from the Codex of all places. I too can't stand most of the crap that's shoveled out and called a game these days BUT I have some serious weaknesses. I love both the Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed series of games. Even worse, I'm such a complete diehard RPG fan that I even play JRPGs <insert ewwwhhh sound here> including those on a console of all things. Mooby likes games that remind him of the NES era where as I like games that remind me of the classic CRPG era (like Bards Tale, Might & Magic, Wizardry, etc). He's completely broken if you ask me.

One of my favorite games of all time, I played it to something like 97% completion on PS3. It's nearly impossible to get 100% cause not everything that earns you percentage is marked on the map and its a huge ass world.

Motor Rock Steam keys are available again.... for $3 "donation"

I'm sure Blizzard has no problem with this.

I cannot decide rather or not to buy this... TB sort of liked it, though he was sure it was going to get pulled, so if its rare I should get it... but at the same time... They really don't need to do much to make it street legal. (Yeah, the jokes intentional.)

I think its the sound files that are the issue if I remember correct.

I barely have any completion in the main quest line of the game. I just treat it as a big ole Michael Bay sandbox for blowing crap up and jumping off of airplanes.

They removed them and replaced those files but Blizzard/Activision apparently still said no. They even had one of the fans do a set of audio files and everything. It sounds like they made an effort but Blizzard/Activision is playing harball and I think they are going for similarities not just ripped files. That and Valve seems to be siding with them or not wanting to piss them off at least.

Well, it is a huge world, even when you're flying planes and helicopters, but I put just shy of 29 hours into completion of the story mode (which is "finishing" a game for me) and I could easily see putting at least twice that amount again into getting all of the pickups, doing all of the faction missions and races, and doing the assorted nonsense like toppling Baby Panay statues. I found the grapnel didn't really work for me as well as advertised, so that took a bit of the fun out of it but the main issue was the ludicrous difficulty. I played and "finished" the game on "casual," which is still a bit punishing and I fould myself having to repeat several missions. When I initially started on "normal," I got a couple of missions in (I believe the one where you're riding around on a Jeep driven by a maniacal Dutchman while the government soldiers shoot you) and said, "To hell with this!" and restarted from the beginning. I was dying over and over again. Either I seriously suck or the hard difficulty must be for lunatics or the extremely patient.

I used to hang out at the RPGWatch, which is sort of like the Carebear version of the RPGCodex. They're still a bunch of 'In my day we had REAL RPGs' types but they try not to flame everyone and everything as a rule.

Most of them also really hate Steam with a fiery passion. :hot: They're a bunch of musty Euro types lving in another century and feel like Steam is invading their human rights and dignities. It's probably in part an ESL thing but they've actually said things like that, that it's taking their rights and dignity away.

I had an argument with one of them there once where he thought any PC game without a box and a disc was a "digital nothing". I tried to explain that the game was not the disc but the data on the disc but he wouldn't hear of it.

When I was there a few years back I thought Steam was this terrible thing because I really didn't have any first hand experience at the time and they would all go on about how evil it was. But I guess when you live in a village where the internet connection is one 2400 baud modem powered by a babushka on a stationary bike you probably would be against the move away from disc to digital downloads.

Apparently I no longer have reservations about Steam since I'm number 200and something of the top game collectors out of Steam's 70 million or users.

why u fialed i already said that alotof post ago
But he said it in English. Also half the people reading this thread don't have him on ignore.

I beat it on Hard and the grappling hook is second nature to me. It works perfectly, one of the hilights of the game. Just my experience.

Reinstalling Windows today and I'm beginning to consider going to 8.1... but so many people say it's shit. I just watched a video on it and it looked fairly customizable. With a Start Menu mod I think I could use it fine. After relearning some shit. :whistle2:k

I use it as my primary OS and it's fine. There are a few quirks/oddities that take getting used to, but otherwise it's basically 7 with a redesigned star menu (which isn't unusable, but easily swapped back to something more traditional if it bothers you). Unless you have a particular piece of software that doesn't work on 8.1 I don't really see any reason not to go with it. It's not worth upgrading from 7, but if you have the choice I'd go for it.

I'm sure that probably just means I suck. One of the big issues I had with the grapnel in this game is the dual-hooking. I may have been doing it wrong, but one of the first things the game tells you to do is hook a statue to a jeep and pull the statue down. That never worked (for me). The only time I ever succeeded in something like this is in a specific faction mission where one of your objectives was to deliver a statue head to a nearby mansion's grounds (and part of me is convinced that it only worked then because of scripting).

It's okay--I'll add it to the ever-expanding list of things I suck at. :joystick:

Who uses start screen or start menu anyway.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. It's okay but I rarely find myself using the native Start menu because it's a bit unwieldy compared to what I'm accustomed to. I definitely wouldn't buy it just to upgrade from 7, because 7's pretty great.

Also I miss being able to play Zoo Tycoon 2.

I use the start menu, to launch all my programs!

I have an 8.1 key I got on CAG for $10 so I do have the choice... and I think I'm gonna go for it! Definitely going to want a start menu mod, that start screen thing with all your icons in a square grid looks really unappealing.

I use it on my laptop along with StartIsBack. No issues here.
I was looking at Start is back a few minutes ago but I don't wanna pay for anything, I know there are free ones but I don't know which one is the best. I'll do some research on that.

I broke and got Motor Rock, before there's no longer any way to buy it. I LOVED R&R Racing back in the day. I rented it multiple times before buying it.
I did too for this exact same reason. Every time I see a screenshot of this game I hear Black Sabbath's Paranoid.
