This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Wow that Batman and NG2 prediction was way off lol. I'm not going to complain, I've played a couple civ games on the PC and liked it and I've never heard of Dungeon Defenders.

Two more games I own for GWG but hopefully like with Iron Brigade I'll now be able to finally play DD coop with my buddies so I'm happy.

So we go from two games I own to two games I've never owned. I'm looking forward to these games which, gotta be honest, are not the kinds of games I usually play.

However, I love Plants vs. Zombies so I'm curious to see what Dungeon Defenders is like.

Civ Rev then, I already wanted to play it but I did not bite during Winter Sales (I would have for 5 rather than 7.50). Good thing it'll be free now. Dungeon Defenders is pretty good, funnily enough I own it on Xbox 360 (review copy), PC (bundle), Android (bundle), and yet I barely even played it (just some hours on X360 for reviewing purposes). It's fun but it's pretty difficult alone, coop partners are needed but at the time I was reviewing (before release) couldn't really find people for it. I don't mind this being the new game, at least I'll finally find new coop partners between my friends who'll suddenly own the game too. I'm mostly in for Civ Rev, though, I'm really curious about that one.

It is nothing like PvZ, but still loads of fun. At first it can be a little difficult learning how the game works because it isn't like most tower defense games. There are 4 classes that each have their own skills, towers, weapons, and strategies.

I've been looking for an excuse to ignore my backlog and come back to this game. Weekend of March 16th will be fun.

Absolutely nothing like Plants vs. Zombies is what it's like...

For those that like to keep their Gamerscore ending in 0 or 5, Civ Rev has 4 3 point and 2 9 point achievements. They all have high completion ratios on TrueAchievements, with 4 above 97%, one at 95% and one at 89%, so it presumably shouldn't be difficult to get back to a 0/5 ending.

After a couple years of being off pace, I finally got back on the 0/5 pace now that I'm winding up my Xbox career. Then fucking Crash of the Titans hits me with a surprise 6 pointer and I'm completely screwed again!

Seriously?!? Another tower defense game? This is the third one they've shoveled onto us since the promotion began! Don't get me wrong, Dungeon Defenders is fun and all, but it seems like every other month or two we're getting another one!

Hooray for CivRev, though. Awesome, awesome game.

I've been on 3 and 8 since Nov. 2011 (Trouble Witches Neo), but never really minded.

Looks like Major Nelson has been giving away codes the past few Fridays. This week he's giving away 5 XB1 codes for Thief. Little over an hour left.

https://twitter.com/majornelson/status/439465473869373441

Dungeon Defenders isn't really a tower defense game, but more of an action-RPG based solely around Horde mode. It's also one of a few co-op focused games that offers a single-player option, but makes no attempts to ever offer a balanced experience for that option. It's surprising that DD is even a part of Games with Gold since the developers were very vocal about abandoning their audiences on consoles because the PC version did so much better.

Civ Rev is one of the great classics of this past generation, though I already own it. There have been enough sessions with that game and others in the series since then that ended way past midnight due to "one more turn" syndrome. If you've ever been interested in Civilization, or even assumed that you wouldn't like it, it's the perfect introductory game to the series with tons to do in it.

I guess it depend on what you're considering "Tower Defense". If you want to be technical one way, it's the 4th (Defense Grid, Iron Brigade, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, DD). However, Defense Grid really bears little in relation to the other 3, and Cold War still isn't as action-based as Iron Brigade and DD is, IMHO.

In my definition of "Tower Defense", Defense Grid has been the only one. I consider the 2 to be more Action-Strategy, and Cold War more a strategy game with optional Action elements. DD, of all 4, is the loosest fit IMHO.

I think it's pretty shitty to put a game on sale right before you go ahead and give it away for free. Still, I didn't buy it and it will be nice to play it again.

So glad the rumors for Batman AA and Ninja Gaiden 2 weren't true as I already had those games.

While I'm not terrible excited for Civilization Revolution and Dungeon Defenders (not big on simulation and tower defense games), they are two games I don't own which isn't something I've been able to say all that often.

Is this as good as it's gonna get for the BLOPS 2 season pass or is there any chance it'll go lower in the future?
It's better to look at the past to determine the future. Ergo, Black Ops 1 and MW3 never sell DLC for cheap And it's been what? Like 3-5 years already? Odds are that by the time it'll go on sale again, you won't be interested. But then again, I don't really know your playing style. *shrugs* personally I'd rather you not give Activision more money to support the franchise, but if you want it, you want it, I guess.

Civ and Dungeon Defenders. This raises an interesting question in my situation, because I was actually interested in playing Ninja Gaiden 2. Would you guys rather have a GwG with one game you own already and the other being one you want or two games you don't have but have no interest in whatsoever?

When they pull off sales on older CODs, it's always just 50%, I yet have to see 66% or 75% on COD DLCs to be honest. I don't expect Black Ops 2 stuff go much cheaper anytime soon, though obviously things might change as we get closer to the end of the console's cycle of life. Also, being it a mainly multiplayer-based pass, I personally suggest getting it as soon as possible, in order to find more people to play with. Granted, COD is hardly risking extinction in the community (MW1, MW2, MW3, BO1, BO2 and Ghosts are still some of the most played games on Xbox Live), but still it's a better deal getting it now at this price then waiting a year or so and finding out that it won't really get any cheaper than this.

In my attempt to loosen my backlog a bit, I started Hell Yeah! Wrath Of The Dead Rabbit, which I bought very much based on nothing. It looked fun, fairly easy achievements apparently and lovely price (that I paid with Xbox Live Rewards cash, too), so I don't regret the money on it either way, but the game is really fun. Some pretty unique platforming elements, some heavy Jazz Jackrabbit influence (and not just because of the rabbit), lovely humor and tons of references and in-jokes, tons of gore, and an overall rather satisfying gameplay. Also it's not terribly long (I probably played around 5-6 hours and I should be around 2/3rds of the game), a pretty good game to get rid of from the backlog overall. There is one flaw, a very annoying achievement which has you get a jackpot in one of the game's slot machines. It is purely luck-based, and I already spent 30-45 minutes on it and still had no jackpots. No tricks, no skills, just luck, and while you can keep on rolling by pressing X, not having a turbo controller makes this an exercise of annoyance. It's pretty much the only complicated thing (which can be easy too if you're lucky) in an otherwise rather simple 400G run.

^Check commerce.Xbox.com I believe it'll tell you if it has an expiration date.

But if you bought currency now, chances are it won't expire for over a year.

Yeah, pretty sure you're right, although I'm not sure if paid for currency expires at all, promotional currency expires in 365 days.

Looks like this months gwg will be saving me hd space. No interest at all in either game. Which is shocking since they're both free.

If I had to come up with a list of the 100 games most likely to be the GWG games next month, CIV Rev would definitely not be on the list. It's something they pulled from way in left field. Having said that though, it is a fantastic game and a great introduction to Civ newbies or those who don't take their Civ games too seriously. I still like my PC civ games more, but this one was very enjoyable despite being dumbed down.

So the trend continues, two more games offered for GWG that I already own. One of these days Microsoft, you will run out of good games to offer and you'll be forced to throw a lousy game I don't own out there. That day I will laugh, then I will cry.....and complain that you had better games to choose from than that piece of crap you went with. Either way I can't win.

Glad I didn't pick up  the digital version of Civ when it was on sale a while back. I owned it for a while before trading it in cuz it just honestly makes a person want to play an actual Civ game instead, but it's a nice short diversion when you don't want to lose your whole day doing that.

Dolan Defenders is kind of a waste of space though. Even with other people, that game has a hard time not being boring.

Perhaps not the right place, but i'm trying to buy a headset, or the chatpad but i've looked for and its around $40. Any advice to which one should i go ? or just the headsets, if so .. any suggestions for a good headsets within the same price range? Thank You.

Hmm...I let my Gold expire about 2 weeks ago and I have been using some 2 week passes I have to fill in the time.  I have 3 month cards but I am not sure locking in another 3 months right now is worth Civ Rev.  I have Dungeon Defenders on PS+ and never play it so I do not care about that game.  Might hold off till April.

If you search on Slickdeals right now, you can get the chatpad and headset combo for $15 free shipping from Rakuten.

I made that mistake. I bought it at release and got enough out of it, but traded it in a year or two later. Then I bought it digitally last year when it was 800 msp, for pretty much the reasons you say, but haven't really played it that much. Now of course it's free.

Augh, I just got Burnout Paradise from Leaptrade last week and I missed the free awesome-cars pack DLC by about 6 hours!

Now I have to wait for Christopher Lloyd to die in order to get me some cheap cars... #notaste #notatwitteruser

Of course knowing MS, when that happens they'll make Crazy Taxi XBLA free for 2 hours instead...

Funny, because I was reloading the page on xbox.com, and I never saw the sale live. Then I went to XBLDB and it had those, plus another 6 or so Kinect arcade games, then went back to xbox.com and it showed free. Then I reloaded again and back to full price. Must be why some sale items show "Expired" early on, takes a while for the marketplace price changes to settle in.

Oh man. Oh jeez. Wish I didn't waste my $40 Xbox cash on Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare. Now I'm gonna miss out on all those wonderful kinect games!

I hope there are some decent sales coming up. I was in the camp hoping Arkham Asylum was true as I'm one of the few who didn't have it. Won a $20 gift card from that jack ryan thingamajig a few days after the last real sales (not counting the cod sale) ended. Now my prospects for free this month completely died with the announcement of civ rev and the only things on sale hold about as much appeal for me as dipping my bare hand into a five gallon bucket full of black mambas.

You bite your tongue, that man is a gift. He is what makes time travel possible. Well that and a visceral amount of shaking.
