Use Enhanced Steam for browsing the store. It makes a world of difference.

Isn't that the game that has the man boob sweat DLC?
Ick.

Apparently the Russian version is not region locked. No way I'm paying $12.50 for that... but $4? I would.

Except it has multiplayer achievements and nobody plays this aaaaaaugh...

There's also no online multiplayer so you'd have to either have friends around who want to play it too (fat chance, no one wants to play this) or boost them by yourself.

So where did I miss out on the Geneforge games? All my Steam friends seem to own them already.

Edited: And the Earth 2150 Trilogy? Did everyone buy these games without me?
I don't have Earth 2150, but if you want it I have a copy of Geneforge for you.

Cats; Mayhem (youngest feline) doesn't seem to interested in the mouse... but she's spent quite a bit of time watching my type on the keyboard... In fact the other day she managed to activate one of my Demon Hunter's powers in Diablo III. (She also has the uncanny ability to know when a boss battle is about to take place... Cause that's when she REALLY wants attention. :p )
My cats tend to be scarily computer savvy... the short-timeout locked screensaver is because of them.

I think toasters are colorblind.

Add the shipping costs.

Did you know it costs $10 to send a one pound, one ounce item from Way Way Southern California (where I live) to anywhere past Texas all the way up to the East Coast? And no, you can't use Media Mail to ship videogames. Anyone who tells you otherwise hasn't read this.
Time to hollow out some more books. =D

The worst part is when you click on a game instead of opening it in a new tab, then hit back, and the games are all in a completely different order and you can't remember what all you've looked at.
Open link in new tab. Also I'm just not seeing this problem.

Has anyone played this (Dungeon Hearts), is it any good? They have it on Humble Store for the same price plus DRM-free. And it has cardzzz.
I didn't like it, lasted about 10 minutes before I switched over to idle mode. If you're really into the match 3 type puzzle games and can play them without thinking "this would be better on my phone," go for it. Hard to argue with that price after cards, even if it's in tomorrow's Humble.

edit: Steam says I played it for 9 hours. Think I might have left that one on overnight.

I do crap like that sometimes. Or get up and make a sandwich or walk the dog or go out or whatever and forget I left some game on. Then when I trash a game sometimes people are like 'But you spent 12 hours in it!'. :p

Yeah, right-click, new window.
Right click to a context menu for new tabs? What kind of fucking luddite dumbasses are you? Middle click, man, middle click.

Better than letting the dog out, making a sandwich, playing a game, and hearing the doorbell ring because some kid found your dog wandering around.

First Class Mail bubble envelope, up to 1lb, $2 or less to ship anywhere in the US.

Small flat rate box, up to 4lbs, $5.25 to ship anywhere in the US.

You're trying to sell games in bulk and you're complaining about shipping costs? Most of the time shipping is factored into the price of the item anyways. Like I said, you can try Craigslist, but then you have to deal with people in person, there are so many lowballers, people who waste your time, people who insist you drive to them or drive to meet them somewhere, etc.

Shipping prices don't break the bank.

It isn't much cheaper state side either... I was selling anime on here for awhile (needed money for PC too and its just sitting collection dust) and even without fees it took so much out of my bottom line. Honestly, the stuff I sold in bulk simply wasn't worth it.
Exactly, this. Selling in bulk isn't really worth it. Selling single games is the way to go. Say you sell a $50 game. You're paying $6.75 or so in fees, and $2 to ship it. You're still making $41.25 on that game. I used to garage sale every once in awhile for new stock, and I've come across $30-50 games for anywhere from $1 to $5. The profit margin is just fine there, as it is if you're trying to clean out your old games to make way for new ones, or a new PC, etc.

I have to disagree on this. My limited experience selling stuff on eBay is that a) for the most part, it costs more to send something to somebody than you're going to get for it and b) eBay has a weird way of charging listing fees months after you no longer had any items listed. I didn't question it too deeply but it sure seemed like a rip-off. I gave up on posting things on eBay after my last experience, but it really doesn't seem worthwhile unless you're actually running a business selling crap on eBay. For a guy just trying to unload a few unwanted items for a bit of spending cash, it's easier to sell certain things back to Amazon or taking a crapload to Half-Price Books.
As I showed above, not true whatsoever. Unless you're trying to sell a really cheap items (like books, it sounds like), it most definitely does not "cost more to send something than you're going to get for it". I've sold over 50 games and consoles on eBay, and everything has been profit. I've never really dicked around with selling $5 games, no, because that's hardly worth the time, but $10-15 and up was great.

Also, you screwed up your options when listing an item if you're getting randomly charged for something. It's free to have buy-it-now listings up under the default options as long as you aren't a massive store and have a high amount of listings up. If all else fails, just remove something if it hasn't sold for a couple months. Worst case scenario, eBay charges you 50 cents or something because you selected your selling options wrong.

Mars Logs sale, tons of Weeklong Deals, blah, blah, blah

It's interesting to see that they allow Mods a spot on the Weeklong Deal page now.
Hey, looks like utopianmachine can lift the curse.

1: First Class only goes up to 13 ounces, and it costs $4.12 to ship that from a post office (I think it's like $3.60 at most if you use online postage like PayPal or Endicia.) 14-16 ounces is bumped to the Priority 1 lb. rate.

2: Sure, Small Flat Rate at $5.25 is good, but not when people want to buy -single- games for ten dollars or less. I actually prefer to sell in bulk so I can send things in flat rate boxes. Of course that would be great if I could get the damn flat rate boxes! The local post office never has any and whenever I order them online, they take ages to deliver them.

3: I'm not crazy enough to try Craigslist locally. You either get drug addicts, cops trying to get the drug addicts, INS agents trying to catch illegal immigrants (I get harassed enough by them as it is, thank you), or one of the five or six resellers in the area. :\

4: I also have very little time to package and ship multiple items separately. That was my main issue; having time to send all this stuff out.

So I guess I'm just gonna have to try selling everything separately now. I had hoped someone would put their tax return to work on this lot. Guess that ain't happening. :p

I don't understand what you're saying in 1 and 2, because single games are under 13 ounces. I've shipped jewel case (PSX, PC, etc) games, plastic tall case (PS2, Xbox 360, etc) games, etc, all for $1.80 to $2.50 depending on weight, which is anywhere between 5oz and maybe 8oz. Hell, I even reinforced the bubble envelopes with cardboard most of the time and I still never go over those weights. If you're paying 13oz online for the weight, you're overpaying, because they don't weigh that much...

Oh, some of the games I was selling in that lot were slightly heavier than 13 ounces because of bonus stuff, heavy cases, or the manuals. Stuff like FF7 can still go first class. But Lunar Complete? No chance in hell. I should've clarified that I only meant the heavy games. Sorry.

That's true, but those heavy single games aren't worth "$10 or less". Last I checked, a good complete copy of Lunar was going for $100-150 depending on condition. $5.25 isn't really a big deal in those situations. Even thick manuals don't put things over 13oz though. Trust me, I've shipped Morrowind. >_>

But yeah, if you have a heavy game worth under $10 for some reason... there's no point to selling it anyways. There aren't really a whole lot of situations where you run into such a heavy single game, though, unless you're dealing in steelbooks, which you're better off selling to collectors on CollectorsEdition.org.

So anyone think Mars: War Logs is worth $3.74? I know spoder said it wasn't, but all he plays is hedgehog games.
Two opinions scavenged from the Steam thread archives:

Neuro5i5 said:
I'll probably write something up once I finish it, but here are my initial impressions (@3 hours in) of Mars: War Logs. And since I'm not exactly adept at cohesively stinging together thoughts into complete text, I'll just bullet point it.

Visuals:

  • The game doesn't necessarily look bad, but the textures are pretty rough. And for a game that, so far, lacks a lot of scenic variety, it's pretty noticeable.
  • There must be a severe lack of digital character models in the world, cause I've seen some of the same ones repeated way too many times.
  • The FOV is terrible. For a third person game (well any modern PC game for that matter), there is no excuse for this. With the camera in it's natural position, your character takes up too much screen for such a narrow viewing angle.
  • The overall art design of the game is pretty good IMO. The art pieces feel right. If the devs hoped to convey a sci-fi frontier atmosphere, then they did a fair job.
Aural:

  • Voice acting (as in casting of proper voice actors) is questionable at best. For a game that has any story elements to it and is moderate to heavily voice acted, choosing the right voice for each character is just as important as the lines they read. I know this is somewhat subjective, but there have been several instances where the voice and character just plain did not mesh well.
  • The dialogue is somewhat cliche and predictable, but nothing too cringe worthy. It's serviceable.
  • With that being said, I think the voice actors did a decent job with what they were given. The delivery of dialogue for the most part sounds relatively natural and not overly forced (I'm looking at you Binary Domain).
  • Strangely, none of the world's other sound effects have made an impression on me. Take that for what it is.
Gameplay:

  • Combat is fairly clunky and can be repetitive, but I've seen worse. I certainly wouldn't buy this game for the combat, but it doesn't detract much from the whole experience. Melee combat is fleshed out more than gunplay in that projectile weapons are treated like special abilities. There is no true aim system that I have seen yet, beyond the target lock. Granted my arsenal is currently limited. There is no jump, but you can dive roll/evade. There are parry, block and guard break maneuvers as well.
  • The camera and character movement are not what I find ideal (I'm playing with a 360 controller) in that they are not bound to each other. You move your character around the screen and move the camera angle with separate controls. Under non-combat conditions, this is mildly annoying. In combat scenarios, it can kind of be problematic.
  • The story element is seen in variable dialogue selection. This is a nice touch, but being that I'm early in the game, none of the choices seemed to have any weight beyond letting me or not letting do something. Maybe different choices will change character development further in, but I'm not getting that vibe.
  • I like the looting and upgrade mechanics, but they're relatively unexplained. (At least Mass Effect had a codex to explain why my adept could manipulate gravity.) While upgrading your abilities and items feels right for a game like this, the process feels a little shoehorned.
While it may seem like I'm pretty down on the game thus far, I'm really not. If I had to use two words to describe this game, they would be ambitious and potential. I think the games biggest failings stem from the fact that it wants to be so much more than it is. I feel that with more resources, possibly a larger budget and more experience in the genre would have yielded an immense experience. Comparing this game to the likes of Mass Effect is completely unfair, but almost inevitable. So, what is it worth? I'm a fan of sci-fi westerns (which I liken this game to), so the $5 I spent feels pretty reasonable. For someone that is not a genre specific fan, $5 may still be a little on the high side.

Just to throw more in behind Mars: War Logs, because I like to defend it, I beat it a day or two ago.

The story as a whole is pretty stock, but the characterizations, as often poorly translated as they are, are actually pretty good, and often a lot bolder than a big budget Bioware game.

The thing that frustrated me most was that you have only you and one other party member through the entire game until the very end, then they give you a third, and when you have three in the party combat is divine. It should have been three in from the beginning. It does eliminate the kind of fun (for the first few hours) rolling about smacking people with pipes alone mechanic, but... It's better with the traditional party system that they tease in the finale.

I actually thing Mars is a really good budget RPG. It has its heart in the right place and it's totally competent, but could just use some more polish.

I would love to see a sequel.

I never said that.. not sure why you keep thinking that. I pointed out the same flaws as Neuro and Elder Red Pie, but overall I enjoyed the game. I'd say it's worth $5, so $3.74 is a pretty good deal for it. There's always the chance of a bundle though.

My cats tend to be scarily computer savvy... the short-timeout locked screensaver is because of them.
That's rather mean of them... I can walk you through disable that if you need help. ;)

I luck out in that regard... My keyboard slides under the desk when not in use so its really hard for them to get too but I know what your talking about. If I put my tablet down while watching a video Mayhem will attack the screen. (More often than not pausing/stopping/fast forwarding the video in question.)

That's sort of my fault though... She fruit ninja playing kitty cat.

Isn't March 31 the end of the fiscal year though? I know it is for EA.

*Edit: It seems to be March 31 for Activision too, at least according to some old articles.

You're absolutely right. I guess it depends upon the company... Odd, seems like everyone I've ever worked for ended the year at the end of February. (I guess I don't do a good job of getting fired enough. )
