So after two days Gamefly called me up at my cell phone. I had no idea I'd given them that info. Freaked me the hell out.

But I have Lego Marvel now. Yay. Now to wait for a DLC sale.

I know :whistle2:( Everyone goes on about it like it's the best thing since cheesy bread and I play and it's "Wander over here, talk to this guy. Talk to that guy. Hit 'E' a bunch of times. Oh no, a zombie! Do you save the kitten or the puppy? Now Puppy-man hates you. Go talk to that guy. Now talk to that woman..."

It's like some Magic Eye thing where everyone else is getting something WAY different out of the experience and I have no idea why.
There are choices like that, yes. Some others aren't so clear. In the end, you're still headed to the same destination and the main thing you influence is who joins you along the way.

However, further along in the game, you have to make some tough choices and there are some really great scenarios. I think you kind of have to be able to put yourself into the story in order to get the most out of it. If you can't get past the obvious mechanics then you probably won't enjoy it much.

This pretty much nails it. The "game" aspect isn't much, and all complaints about that are valid, to a certain extent. However, as a storytelling mechanism, it's very effective and can really make you feel like a complete bastard when you have to make a tough choice on whom to save and such. Sure, the end result is roughly the same, but it's the feel of the moral weight of your choices along the way that really makes it shine.

So uh.

PayPal's got a sale coming up?

https://www.paypal.fr/gamingsale/

I checked the domain's info, and it's owned and hosted by eBay. One of the blurred images is a Steam money card.

WTF? (Thanks to NeoGAF for mentioning it.)
What are the blurry pictures there? The colours look like Battlefield 4.

Edit: someone pointed out the main pic looks like a blurry version of this Diablo III ROS pic ...

Freaking games catering the the moralistic, I'm going to heaven and you're not, types.

How about some tough choices for the amoral gamer?

I'd strongly consider "Skip the Fade". The Fade is a long, tedious boring slog that adds nothing of value to the main story. The mod removes almost all of it except for the "boss fights" and associated dialogue so you don't miss any plot points. It also automatically adds the skill points you'd have earned on your character.

There's a valid argument to be made for wanting to play it "vanilla" or "complete" first but, man, it ain't worth it in my opinion. A whole buncha not-fun sitting like a crap bomb in the middle of an excellent game.
The Fade was fucking awesome.

...

The first time.

So yeah, if you're playing through the game again, Skip The Fade is great. But really, don't skip it on your first play through.

Oh man, you cheapasses who haven't gotten season 2 yet just wait.

There's one part near the beginning of S2 ep 1 I had to stop the game for a while. Then when I went back to it I had to make myself do it because it was the only way to progress but it wasn't easy.

There's another part near the end of the episode where there's a mini game of sorts that's difficult to get through and disturbing mostly because of the physicality of the gameplay element that they actually make you directly involved in.

Telltale is America's most popular visual novel developer.

Did you like TWD? Maybe the same brain that enjoys TWD is required for enjoying hours of wandering around the same sets of rooms over and over again saying "Now I'm a mouse! Now I'm a ghost!"

I'm not entirely sure what this is supposed to mean. That TWD isn't really a game? I can certainly agree with that.

(Not sure if you're familiar with visual novels, as I think it's fairly self-explanatory)

I remember a few interviews that Telltale CEO Dan Connors gave after they hit it big with TWD in which he says that they're now pushing adventure games beyond puzzle solving/point & click to something new! and amazing!

All they actually did was import the VN concept and westernize it.

Never underestimate the ability to succeed by appealing to the lowest common denominator.

::grumble grumble::

Needless to say, I used to be a big Telltale fan. My money is now reserved for developers like Wadjet Eye.

lol, I'm a CAG. You think I've played TWD?

I admit the shapechanging bits got tedious, but it was still a cool part of the game, and the entire fade wasn't just shapechanging.

Well said.

I'd like to say that Violated Heroine is not only one of the most well made RPG Maker games I've ever played, but it's just a plain awesome game. It can be as dirty or as clean as you want as well, since it's totally non-linear and lets you do pretty much whatever the fuck you want. It's really well made and has really well done custom retro visuals (which is usually a turn off when it comes to indie games, but it works here).

Of course, if you don't want any dirtiness, you probably shouldn't lose to monsters.

Just make sure you set your non-unicode locale to Japan before you even unzip the game or you'll run into issues ranging from irritating to cataclysmic.

Desktop still isn't built and my laptop charger died so I've been off the computer for a few days. Gave me time to play Dark Souls 2(PS3), then immediately started MGSV Ground Zeroes(PS4) when I got it today. Now I've got inFamous Second Son(PS4) coming out next week. Talk about a hit to the wallet.

If visual novels were remotely close to TWD then I'd love them.  I get the comparison, but it's night and day.  The VNs I've played are just basically the dev admitting they are either too cheap or lazy to actually program a game so they just decided to put out all the non animated cutscenes and call it a game.  In the end, you're still just clicking a bit or pressing a few buttons between the story bits, but I'll take the 3D world and great voice acting and animations in Telltale games over every VN I've come across.  I definitely get the complaints on TWD.  Puzzles are way easy. Interactive bits are way easy.  Gameplay is secondary to story.  I'm just saying, comparing it to generic anime drawings and nonsensical stories in VNs is a stretch.

Honestly they've basically ditched the puzzles in TWD.  I just watched the second part of season 2 on YouTube and there wasn't anything even resembling a puzzle.  Just clicking on a couple random items, a few QTE's, and the dialogue choices.  The comparison isn't that much of a stretch.

Edit: Okay, I guess shutting down the wind turbine was a puzzle.  Use lighter on machine, find key starting you in face, use key on machine.

I don't even have insightful criticism about TWD. I was just bored by it. I guess it's like Bioshock Infinite -- if the story doesn't grab you early on, the game play alone sure as hell ain't.

Any good deals today? I've been focused on MGS Ground Zeroes and didn't have the time to check in.
Wut? You can easy beat the game in less time than a typical day at school or work... Surely you don't need no recap.

Watch the trailer for it... Looks like of odd but not too bad to be honest.

EDIT: I find many of these numbers very difficult to believe. Unless a game is Steamworks, I'm just not convinced that Steam completion is even a valid metric to use to measure this statistic.
Its not. At a quick glance it can look like it but its really not... I mean just look at a few games I own on steam.

Batman: Arkham City

Borderland 2

COD4: Modern Warfare

Dragon Age: Origins

GTA IV

Gun

Many, many, more...

Are all games I own on the PC that I haven't finished on PC but finished on console... I bought them again as I really enjoyed them and wanted them on my PC too.

Actually, some of those could be bad examples as they don't all have steam achievements... but you get the point. And its not just one console but both the PS3 and the 360. I beat Tomb Raider on PS3.... Haven't really done anything with it on the PC. (I actually bought the pack for the old games.)

So really until they link everyone to all their online accounts they'll never have the proper percentage...

But truth be told... That proper percentage is never going to be all that high. Games are meant to be a diversion when they are no longer fun most people aren't going to continue to play them.

I have finished main quests for:

and Portal 1.

I never finished Portal 2, though.
I don't have any trouble believing people didn't finish Portal games. The only way I was able to finish the first one was through relying very heavily on online walkthroughs. And it was tedious as f*ck. Yeah, I get that people think GlaDOS was a great character but the gameplay sucked. I'm not sure I'd play 2 if Valve paid me to do it.

I agree with the bit in bold there; I've always felt that you shouldn't play something for the sake of doing it (see my signature).

However, some of these games are ones I don't understand why you'd start if you had no intention of finishing, like Batman: AC, Borderlands 2 (I'm a little iffy on this one), Dragon Age, and Gun. Some open-world games are begging to be left unfinished, though, and the GTA series is a great example of this. I was intrigued by the story in GTA IV, just as I was with most of the other GTA games, but I've always reached a story mission in every single GTA game that I couldn't get past. I keep buying the games (cheap), but I tend to be disappointed when I reach that inevitable point.

It's not like bioshock infinite because bioshock infinite actually had gameplay

I didn't have a problem finishing the first one, the second one had some puzzles I needed help with though. I enjoyed the games, but good god are they overrated.

Well, like I said I finished them on console... I haven't gotten to them on PC yet but i have them when I want them.

GTA IV, its the first (and only) GTA game that I've ever finished... I blame achievements and peer pressure for having done so. (I found the story in GTA IV to be borderline stupid... Then again I don't usually agree with Rockstar's endless fetch quest story missions to prolong the game.)

I loved the first Payday and Payday 2 was one of the only games I pre-ordered (I think the other was Borderlands 2), and I was even lucky enough to get into their closed beta, but I ended up uninstalling PD2 last week and reinstalling PD1. PD2 is still a fun game, but it relies way to heavily on RNG to get stuff like weapon mods (meaning if you want to do any stealth runs, you have to pray to the RNG gods to give you a silencer), all the DLC is "meh" at most, and the developers seem to cater (and balance the game) for one specific hardcore clan (T$E) that they've been butt-buddies with since PD1. The matchmaking is worse than PD1, the heists are bland and are jokingly referred to as "bag throwing simulators". They also added a bunch of cool masks, but again relies heavily on RNG to get them.

It's sad because I really really wanted to like this game, but in it's current state, it's a bit of a letdown, especially if you were a fan of the first game.

I only have the first one... (And its DLC) but have never really done anything with it other than idle cards and try one heist on my own... Also no matter what I seem to do I cannot get the thing to use up my entire monitor. (Even in full screen.)

So I sort of ended up moving on to other things...
