This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Yikes. Vocal minority in here. GTA 4 was and is still an amazing game. It is silly to say the copy cats do it better. Nobody beats Rockstar in crafting an open world that is absurdly detailed with lots to do. This is just one of those games/series that gets universal acclaim when released so now people go out of their way to say how "boring" and "overrated" it is. If you've never played GTA you'd be silly not to try it out ( it is super successful for a reason). Though at this point I'd suggest trying to find a good price on 5 since they've made some huge improvements in it.

Ground Zeroes was well worth the 20 bucks, game should last any fan or even anyone way longer than 2 hours

I've put way more than 2 hours into it or so and only have 30% overall completion, and it's not like time = value

There's quite a bit of content

Anyway, check your emails Windows 8 users, I just got an email with a free $5 Xbox/Microsoft code in it for upgrading to Windows 8.1

When did you upgrade?

Thanks for updating the OP, all of the music hero nonsense crippled XBLDB.  I gave up after going 10 pages deep.

Just like if you're going to have a 360 kinect "arcade games" sale at 33% off, having a delisting sale on a smabillion items should be much, much more than 50% off.  I would have picked up almost everything DJ Hero related if it were 90% off, just on the off-chance that I ever touch the games again.

I bought all the DJ Hero 1 and 2 DLC when the packs launched and I highly recommend them. I love those games. Even if I'm not into some tracks they're still usually fun to play. I actually played DJH2 the other day after a long hiatus. Still managed to rock at Expert B)

Anyone having issues downloading GoDs recently?
yea, in fact I was wondering if it was just my connection. I've had Sou Calibur 5 in my que since Monday and it's still not done. After several hours it only downloaded 6%. Foul Play and Giana Sisters downloaded in an hour by comparison.

Just got my $15 code from xbox in message center on the XB1 30 minutes ago. This was from the buy $45 get $5, $10, $15, or $20 back deal. I know it varied on what was offered to you. Check your messages if you haven't yet.

Yeah I guess I haven't noticed it as I've been a GTA player since the first top down one. Probably why I loved GTA: Chinatown Wars so much on the DS too lol. Cousin, let's go look at some tiittties.

I also liked the 3 character split story for GTA V.

Thanks for the GH TA tips, I actually have that game shrink-wrapped somewhere lol.

There was definitely plenty of criticism about GTA IV around the launch that happened outside of the glowing reviews that isn't just people taking part in some sort of hate parade later on, as I know I had my fair share of issues from the start. The bad controls, the cognitive dissonance with Niko's story, the lack of mid-mission checkpoints, and the overly pushy friends that constantly called you to hang out were the main issues for me. The Bank Heist mission specifically was the part where it went from 'This is pretty cool!" to "I'm never going to play this game again." before I sold it off.

Don't forget about the driving. Christ, the driving..

get it....that game was really neat. The driving takes some getting used to, but solving cases like an old timey detective rocked.
You can actually get your partner to do most of the driving if you like. Makes it easier to 5 star cases as you don't have to worry about losing points for driving erratically or breaking road rules. So if you are more an of an old school adventure gamer and just want to do the case solving with as little driving as possible getting into the passenger seat is a good way of doing that. Or if you just hate the driving mechanic in the game.

Probably. Is it because it gives you flashbacks to when you were a notorious crook in 1920s LA and were promptly apprehended by a spunky detective?
I read this as Spelunky Detective - sigh that game has fried my brain. But now I desperately want a mash-up between Spelunky and L.A. Noire. Someone please make that game now.

You hated the bank mission? Wow, it's the best part of the game. It's like I was playing the bank heist from the movie Heat. What They need to do Is remake GTA 3 and Vice City, that would be so much fun.

oh an bring the Manhunt series back as well as a sequel to bully.

This. Everybody forgets about the Manhunt series (hell, I forgot about it a couple of hours ago). Swap RDR with that in the list of games most in need of a sequel. I would still rather have a LA Noire sequel though, honestly, doesn't seem like a game anyone else will do/get right. And of course Bully still remains in the top spot. Hoping the new one will take place in college because where they were scouting (Boston)'s such a big college-town.

The driving in 4 made me hate GTA. Is the driving in 5 better? If not, I may just skip 5 altogether.
Yeah, if you're like me and hated the "realistic" , clunky/awkward feel to the driving in IV even after getting somewhat used to it, then yeah, you'll like V's driving better. V's is more arcadey (think Midnight Club: LA), which I personally prefer (it's just more fun as opposed to the headache that it was in GTAIV, if I wanted "realistic" driving, I'd play Forza/Gran Turismo). The driving/cars in V do have issues though, like with car damage (mostly because the game needs more resources available, as the hardware was so old and had not been upgraded since IV, so they had to gimp certain things). Hoping the PC version, if it ever comes out, will fix most of those problems that console limitations caused.

That would be pretty cool. A detective game with platforming for clues (instead of treasure), with death traps abound left by the murderer. It could definitely work as a concept, now all we need is a programmer! :p

Do it. Leave GTA for those able to appreciate it.
Whoa whoa whoa. Relax there, the driving is a valid complaint. He's not the only one who's complained about it. The driving didn't stop me from liking IV, but it definitely got in the way.

I think skipping V over the driving (even if it was the same as IV's) is a little hasty. But the game's hardly seen sales, I can understand not rushing to blow money on it if you don't think you'll like the driving (kind of a big part of the game as a whole, imo).

I'm more than able, I've loved every GTA until 4. The change to more realistic physics threw me off. I remember flying around town like a badass in the previous games, but 4 just wasn't much fun to control.

Spelunky really is a great game. Frustrating, difficult, but you can feel the gradual progression from the many early deaths when you first start out to much later when you begin recognizing the patterns that will greatly increase your chances of surviving to the end of the game. However, nothing will convince me that Derek Yu is not somehow laughing at us when we have the misfortune of getting a Darkness stage with pit spikes everywhere.

On a side note and related to your mashup, that could actually have an interesting story. Take the idea of an endless cycle of death and rebirth (or similar to Bioshock Infinite, go with multiple parallel universes), and frame the game around solving mysteries and crimes but with the overarching story being that of solving your own mystery of how and why you are in the cycle and how to finally bring it to an end. In this way, it would be kind of like a mashup of Spelunky, L.A. Noire, and Ghost Trick.

TO KICKSTARTER!

Speaking of Kickstarter, I'm hoping we get some good news out of Koji Igarashi in the near future. I loved the Metroidvania games he made on PS1 and DS. A HD spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night would be lovely.
Entirely possible. He did say he wanted to go the "Inafune" route, and considering Inafune made a spiritual successor to his most popular series.. well, there you go.

A side-note, apparently while Iga is flattered by the name "Metroidvania", he actually intended to make 2D sidescrolling Legend of Zelda games. Which.. makes a lot of sense, honestly. Pretty cool to find out nonetheless.

So I guess we should call them Zeldavanias from now on? It has a ring to it. :p

This is kind of ironic when you think about it since The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link was 2D. That game and Castlevania II: Simon's Quest felt like they were the prototypes for difficult games with obtuse hints which FromSoftware seems to have done a smashing job of translating into 3D with the Demons' Souls and Dark Souls games. :)

That interview was actually pretty interesting because it basically is describing a trend in the Japanese gaming industry where a lot of high level talent is going to Kickstarter to make the games they want to make. Otherwise, the publishers have them working on less meaningful (but profitable) work in the mobile markets because they care more about making money than actually making a good game. This is actually relevant to the larger gaming industry as a whole; the niche games are between a rock (Freemium Mobile games) and a hard place (AAA games that are considered failures even when they sell 1 M +). All I can say is that I'm grateful that Kickstarter exists otherwise nobody would take risks in game design anymore.

No joke! Jeez people take your rants to the discussion pages don't clutter up the deal pages. No one cares.
Surprisingly, and I have no idea how, but people do care apparently. There are people who only post huge wall of texts in this thread and are known for it, and people actually read, enjoy, and reply to it. It baffles me too, but you'd have to be new not to notice the amount of wall of texts in this thread.

The driving in 4 made me hate GTA. Is the driving in 5 better? If not, I may just skip 5 altogether.

I'm not a GTA fan, never have been, but All my friends got V, so I bought it when it was new. They all gave it rave reviews and I decided it was time to give the series another chance....

Worst gaming mistake in a while. I did not like it at all. Haven't even finished it yet. I'm just not much for the characters or story. The gameplay has been the same since III.

I might buy it again when its on sale...a really cheap sale.

Yes this thread gets wall sized rants from time to time, yes this thread goes astray from time to time, yes this thread gets heated debates and the occasional creepy talk, but that's what keeps so many here coming back for more. While I may be a noob, in the few years I having been in CAG, this thread has always been the most fun.

I agree 100%......I just never liked the series and that is not an insult to those that do. For me it was the characters, they just don't pull me into their story. Now Bully, I loved the characters in that game. Even in it's dated state, I still find it to be more fun than GTA. I mean come on.....panty raid for the win.

Panty raid scene.....damn Bully was twisted. I have to agree with the hordes of fans screaming for a sequel....bring it!

Sold. I have always been a little standoffish towards that game, solely based on my dislike GTA. It took me forever to play RDR and even though I loved that game, I'm still so sceptical of Rockstar games.

It came out the same day, and is getting shit all over in reviews while Ground Zeroes is getting 70s on Metacritic (because METAL GEAR), despite arguably being a worse game. And you can tell that because of the shared release date, the critics are mentally comparing the two in regards to what score to give it and of course it's going to lose that battle because of Ground Zeroes' pedigree.

That's what Yaiba has to do with it. Game's going to be annihilated in sales because of all the Kojima-worshippers hyping Ground Zeroes like the seconding coming of Jesus, and a decent FULL LENGTH game'll end up overlooked.
I think the definition of fanboy would be when someone goes to these lengths to link the success and failures of two games that have nothing to do with one another. Creating imaginary excuses on both the review and sales front and blaming it on another game so you can use your biased to slam that one even further.

Totally agree.

I'm no MGS fanboy or anything. I haven't played all the games and I only know the story, from watching videos on YouTube. In this situtation, I just think Ground Zeroes is a better game.

I've watched some Ninja Gaiden Z gameplay and story footage at this point. Ground Zeroes is getting better reviews, because its a better game. Period. You have so many options and ways to play in GZ. Plus the story, graphics and gameplay are far superior to NGZ. Gaiden just looks awful. Like the creators knew what they were doing was bad, but that was what they were aiming for?

Just saying...

What do you guys think the chances are that DLC items from THQ (now defunct) go on sale at some point in the future? A lot of these DLC packs are still available for sale, but haven't been marked down since they have gone under.

Some examples would be Saint's Row 2 & 3, Metro 2033, numerous other titles.
