Can't say I disagree with that. It's a real shame that they went with the Kinect (for gaming purposes, it's a very useful device outside of gaming) as their focus. I hope Mattrick rots in the hell that is Zynga.

That's mostly hyperbole. There is a noticeable difference, as I said, but there was a noticeable difference between the 360 and PS3 as well, and that mostly got sorted out towards the end of the generation. Way too early to tell. Which is fine, because I have no intention of buying either any time soon.

I think there's plenty of good titles on that list, but I guess I can see how they wouldn't excite you. But to say they were a joke is a little much.. you have to remember that the PS3 had a massive drought of exclusives until around the time the 360 started dropping the ball. They pretty much just ended up switching places which was interesting.

Well, of course. But PS4 titles don't run in 1080p or 60 FPS aside from one or two games..

The Xbox One also has at least one or two games that does 1080p/60 FPS as well. Like I said, way too early to tell.
The PS4 is playing full AAA budget games like AC4 or Tomb Raider at 1080p/60 and Xbone is only playing dumbed down racing games at those specs.

I'm going to back out of this debate cause my Sony fanboy blood is showing. It's true, tho.

Well I'll tell you the truth, according to FRAPS most of my games run in the teen FPSes and I can't tell the difference between them and stuff running at 30 FPS. :)
The teens? Time to upgrade, fool! Ground Zeroes PS3 dips below 20 and I find it unbearable.

To say it's a much bigger difference than the one between the PS3 and the 360 is the hyperbole, is what I meant. But I've read how the PS4 is apparently 50% more powerful or something ridiculous like that, and it's simply clickbait exaggeration.
To me 50% is a much bigger difference. And it's not exaggeration, it's based on numbers. Actual numbers. Now whether those raw numbers translate into noticeable differences in actual gameplay is a completely different question, but still doesn't take away from the facts and the actual numbers. That's like saying the difference between a 7770 and a R7 240 is hyberbole because I can mess with settings and make games look relatively nice on both. That doesn't change the fact one is more powerful than the other.

AC4 is actually 30fps on the PS4. Its completely locked and it never dips, so that's pretty good. Xbox One version runs at a lower resolution and still has some framerate problems.

I think 1080p vs 720p and 60fps vs 30fps would be noticeable to anyone with eyeballs.
Well that would depend somewhat on the size of the TV someone's playing on. On sets <32" most people sitting at a normal viewing distance can't tell the difference between 1080 and 720p.

Honestly though, if your first concern is graphics you're really best off with PC, every time. There's no way every PS4/XB1 game is going to run at 1080p/60fps, or even most, so if that's the selling point for you you're going to come away disappointed.

I would say thar being 100$ cheaper than the competition and yet being significantly more powerful is a pretty good selling point.

My mistake, I was thinking of something else.

That would be fine if console exclusives didn't exist.

Technically speaking thats actually true.
Yeah, but that's "on paper", citing that without taking into account the various other factors (including that the Xbox One has a higher clocked CPU) is silly and done for marketing purposes/clickbaiting.

The PS4 is playing full AAA budget games like AC4 or Tomb Raider at 1080p/60 and Xbone is only playing dumbed down racing games at those specs.
AC4 is absolutely not at 1080p/60 FPS, and Tomb Raider suffers from FPS dips (despite being a last generation game), I think it tends to hover around 50, iirc.

The point is that both consoles do not even come close to competing with PCs in terms of graphics, or even obtaining a stable 1080p/60 FPS, as much as fanboys of either would like you to believe (Killzone: Shadow Fall was just announced to have a lower resolution than previously thought, making it no longer the 1080p/60 FPS posterchild for Sony). If you have to choose between the two as opposed to a PC, and don't care about exclusives, then yes, get the PS4. I just find both disappointing for "next gen", and feel the "power of the PS4" is played up more than it should be.

And as much as I've heard bad things about Forza 5 for microtransactions and the like, it's better than GT6. (Maybe I'm just bitter from the letdown GT5 was).

Well, you'd be right if the claim was "The PS4's GPU is 50% more powerful than the Xbox One's". But the claim has been "The PS4 is 50% more powerful than the Xbox One"..

To each their own. I will sooner buy an Acer than a HP. That's just from my own experiences.
I would have loved to have a good experience with Acer. I sent it in once (paid out of my own pocket to ship it) and they just reinstalled windows. Seriously. Something I told them I already did. Something that was clearly several hardware issues. So of course it didn't fix jack shit and I had to send it in again at my expense and they finally addressed 2 out of the 4 issues the laptop was having.

My last HP ran into a ton of problems, probably worse than the Acer with multiple HD failures, but HP paid for shipping both ways on every repair and finally gave me a replacement (and upgrade) new laptop when they couldn't fix it right.

So... back to Steam talk....

I was just noticing that a game called Nosgoth was released today. It looks like F2P, which is normally a turn-off, but the name of the developer happened to catch my eye - Psyonix. For any of you that ever played Unreal Tournament 2004, Psyonix actually conceived of and developed the Onslaught (vehicles) gametype that became very popular.

Has anyone tried Nosgoth yet? It's a spin-off of Legacy of Kain and the comments at SPUF seem to be pretty positive.

It's free! Unless you have bandwidth caps, you should test it out for us. I DLed a ton of the free steam games yesterday but I might add this one to the installed games list.

I never said that and none of the articles I've read have phrased it that way.
But I've read how the PS4 is apparently 50% more powerful or something ridiculous like that, and it's simply clickbait exaggeration
You're right, you didn't. But I did. And I'm glad that you've avoided crappy articles then. All you have to do is google "PS4 50% more powerful Xbox One" to see all the clickbait. This gen has been a clusterfuck of buzzwords, benchmarks and marketing, and it annoys me to no end.

It's part of why I came back to PC.

Sold. I know it's F2P but I'm sold, I don't care.

Do you know if the writer for Legacy of Kain is involved after she got pushed out of Naughty Dog?

BOO! Apparently they are doing the pay for early access thing right now so it is not F2P yet. BOO! BOO!

Guise! The Humble Store is having a Square Enix sale for the next 48 hours.

Sadly nothing really stands out and this collaboration sale is crushing my hopes for a Square Enix Humble Bundle. But...

Hitman: Contracts (Steam) is $6.99 $1.74*

*Lowest price to date

Oh god damnit. Paid Early Access for a F2P game? Might as well just have a Kickstarter. I'll see if there's any bonuses.

Hate to be that guy, but with how low it's gone, it's bundle fodder. Not even worth it.

Edit: So, apparently the lowest buy-in price is $20. And the highest is $135 (it's on sale for 10% off).

Here's a pic with all the bonuses for each tier. -> http://www.nosgoth.com/system/rich/rich_files/rich_files/000/000/145/blog_large/fp-blog1.jpg?1395660560

All for a F2P game. Yup, it's a Kickstarter.

No doubt you're right about that. However, that price is very appealing to many of us that own all the other Hitman games. We've waited for ages for Contracts to come to Steam. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to wait for a potential Hitman bundle.

True. I was thinking it'd be a Squeenix bundle if anything, but you're right. It's a good price if you own most of their catalogue already (I don't, on PC anyways, so it's not really worth it to me).

Been that long, huh?

True, but at that price one could buy it with card money if SE matches it on Steam directly...

So, I'm looking into this newfangled Steamgifts thing as I've been accumulating some extra keys and whatnot.  Can someone give me the low down, cause I'm lazy.  I assume that when I create a giveaway, there will be an obvious option if I want to open to only a specific Steam group I belong to?  I also assume that bundle keys are allowable as I was reading lots (albeit older) of posts saying that was not kosher.

Bundle items are OK (at least they are with Steamgifts). I'm pretty sure you can restrict giveaways to specific groups. You may not care too much, but be aware that after you hit $25 in gifted bundle items, you will receive reduced credit for bundled items. It's a bit complicated, but if you're only gifting bundle items, you may not get credit for them.

Thanks.

And you just confused me more. Credit for what? Should this concern me?

I'd just like to hop in and say that I played Hexcells last night and beat it (two sittings). It's a 6-sided Minesweeper iteration and it's surprisingly fun.

Well, not fun. It would be fun but then I realised that I'd been playing a game similar to the one I use to idle time away at work.

Harumph.

Thanks.

Contributor credit, basically the $ amount of the games you've been giving away. You don't need to worry about it unless you're planning to enter giveaways (some have a minimum contributor amount to keep out the freeloaders), or just want people to know you're a generous sob. (more details can be found here)
