Humble Bundle Thread

This bundle sucks, pewdiepie sucks, and honestly, Humble sucks for having any association with him. Twice, even.

Are you fucking kidding me? What kind of shitty bundle is this? 3 games in the $1-tier that Humble has bundled as recently as Humble 11 earlier this year (except the Android game). 2 in the $6 tier, with 1 in the Jumbo Bundle (that also goes on sale all the time)? Another $5 for ONE game bundled as recently as last month that was in a bundle that cost

This is what happens Humble...This is what happens when you let PewDiePie pick a bundle....

You guys forget the average consumer may not have known about past bundles, which makes something like this seem like a good value. Garry's Mod sells in the top seller list on steam consistently at $10, so for someone who would of paid that a bundle like this is great. For the rest of us CAGs this is terrible.

Another $5 for State of Decay without any DLC (base game costs $20, has been on sale for $10 previously)???

Even the Destructoid bundle last week was better. Now I regret bitching about it. Humble is really hoping people buy for Pewdiepie alone, aren't they? Please tell me there aren't any special one-time charities this week, they're really getting a raw deal if there are.
They're probably pandering exclusively to PewDiePie's young demographic, in the hopes that they're too naive and ignorant of steam sales (and past Humble's) to know any better. The dude has millions of viewers (I don't know how), and I can't imagine many over the age of 13 won't find him irritating.

Yeah, but I mean, it was only like 2 months ago, just way too recent. Hell, I'd give them credit if Gmod was in the $1-tier, that shit would fly off the shelf. Surely people who know enough about Steam to know what Garry's Mod is knows about the billion sales on it?

There had to have been a way to pad the $6-tier with another game. Are the Probably Archery devs that greedy?

The only tier worth anything in this bundle is the $1 tier and that's because Guacamelee is worth a buck (or more!). The pricing is laughably bad on the rest. :nottalking:

So is Surgeon Simulator 2013 worth $1?
It's funny for a minute. And then you realize it's just bad.

By default, and you can see or change this with the custom sliders, all the developers get the same cut, regardless of how much the user pays. So, on a $10 purchase for instance, each developer is only getting a $0.93 piece of the pie (this can be off by a penny).

The creation of the tiers is a collaboration between the curator (in this case, PewDiePie) and Humble.

ftfy.

Just watch the youtube vids...save your dollar for two copies of Bad Rats and gift them to PewDiePie.

Fair point. I was just imagining the devs telling Humble not to include it for any less than $10 or something (guaranteeing them a slice of a bigger pie, instead of a slice of a smaller pie). But you're probably right. It's just such an odd choice.. why not fatten your $6-tier up? How popular can "Probably Archery" be?

I actually enjoyed Surgeon Simulator quite a bit.  If the original Octodad was a fun experience for you, or if any of the many videos out there looks like your type of game, get it.  It's pretty much "absurd controls make it hard to do basic tasks" the game.  Of course, it also features the the obligatory silly, unrealistic goals and physics.  One of the harder achievements asks you to "Complete a brain transplant by throwing it in."  One of the easier ones asks you to "Complete a procedure after being electrocuted."

If that doesn't sound like fun, stay far away.  If it sounds like your kind of thing, it's worth a buck.

Nope. You should totally have gotten in on the Groupees Sim Bundle.

Surprises me since they have a $7ish DLC to sell.  You think by now they'd at least go with a $10 price point for sales/promotions.  It was that much on Amazon back in January.

i feel like they can get away with it in humble...i think humbles gotten so big that there's a lot of people who probably buy nearly every week just assuming it's a great deal without thinking

While I'm sure this is the case, it probably isn't as bad as you think. Even several decidedly-non-CAG Humble fans I've spoken with think this is a fuck ing terrible bundle.

From the Humble Weekly page:

Edit: Fixed to stop being an insult to the art-form.

But those surgical techniques are so outdated. I want to kill someone with the newest and greatest!
Oh, I know where you're going with this, but when something says "Surgeon Simulator," I'm expecting this:

Lives are in your hands as you take on the role of a top surgeon at a busy city hospital. With eight authentically recreated surgical procedures in your repertoire, your skills are much in demand. You will need to keep your brain as sharp as your scalpel as you operate on fractures, remove an inflamed appendix or tonsils, treat infected gall bladders, attend to varicose veins, repair hernias, restore vision in cataract procedures and deal with the horrifying injuries of road traffic accidents.
Perform each operation using state of the art medical equipment, assisted by animated surgical staff. Make sure you monitor the vital signs of your patient and if blood pressure and heart rate falls be ready to intervene. You are the lead surgeon and split second decisions that lead to triumph and tragedy are carried on your shoulders alone.

not this:

Surgeon Simulator 2013 is a darkly humorous over-the-top operation sim game where players become Nigel Burke, a would be surgeon taking life into his own shaky hands, performing life-saving surgical manoeuvres on passive patients. The original prototype – developed in just 48 hours at the 2013 Global Game Jam in January – challenged players to complete a heart transplant, armed only with an arsenal of clumsy and inappropriate tools and a hand that was diabolical to control, using a combination of keyboard and mouse actions.

Yes, I'm pretty much the only person who feels this way, but jokey "games" that involve futzing around with deliberately-terrible controls rank somewhere just below dubious phone ports and things that proudly brand themselves as "very difficult" in my estimation.

I would say that something calling itself a simulator is not an appropriate title except that "simulator" games have become a complete joke in general lately, at least to non-Germans.

Agreed. I just feel like it was this "game" more than anything else and its inexplicable popularity that really drove the trend in that direction. By all accounts that I've read, Surgery Simulator 11, while definitely a simulator after a fashion, is like many recent simulator games like Woodcutter and Garbage Truck Driver and various other oddities, in that it's not that great as a game. If I had a choice between something like it and something where the entertainment value ostensibly derives from your lack of ability to play the game very well, I'd choose the former every time, though.

I actually think Goat Simulator looks like fun, but it isn't a simulator in any real sense of the term either and it's sure to spawn a ton of terrible imitators.
