This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Already own both games, so meh, but I don't mind having paid for them. Try them out, they're both really good.

A couple tips, advices and facts from someone who bought the base game back at launch along with the season pass, and completed game and DLCs 100% (both game-wise and achievement-wise). The game is not extremely long (it's an open world game so you'll likely be messing around, but we're talking less than 40 hours if we don't count that), plus 6 more hours or so for the DLCs. The DLCs, as hilarious and awesome as they were, were hardly worth the full price (talking about the campaign ones, the small weapon & skin ones don't really matter), since they really are like 1.5-2 hours each for 100% completion. If they'll be on sale for at least 50% they are recommended though, also for the cheevos.

The game is not really difficult. At first you'll have massive troubles getting gangs out of the way, since you're quite weak with limited weaponry against giant armies. Same goes for some of the collectibles and stuff: if you approach these things early on, you will have issues because your character is far from powered up and not having the best weapons and vehicles yet. In fact, as you progress, you can upgrade your character (plus unlock all kinds of OP weaponry). I advice AGAINST upgrading your character fully when it comes to health and ammo especially. Why? Because the final upgrades literally make you immortal and with unlimited bullets. That is fun, as it'll be like playing a wacky GTA with cheats, but if you want to have some kind of challenge in an already fairly easy game, my personal advice is to wait out with the best upgrades 'till after you're done with the missions, and you're merely planning to screw around from now on.

Achievements. No missable achievements except for one that requires you to play a certain mission twice (but needs a new game to work, so either you backup your save or you start a new save where it'll take you 1 hour or so to get to that part again), everything else is fairly easy to pull off. A couple are time-consuming but I managed to do every single achievement and 100% completion without ever accessing a guide - and this still in the 40 hours or so needed for the base game. Just play at your own pace and liking, enjoy the messing around, and don't worry, you'll have time (and better equipment) to get all the achievements down the line if you don't unlock them while you play.

What else to say? If you never played SR3 and SR4, you did not play anything like this. Not even SR2 comes close to it. This is GTA on all kinds of drugs. The storyline is downright bonkers, some of the things you have to do are beyond anything you've done in videogames (not even gonna spoil anything, I'll let you find all the surprises, as there are plenty in both the base game and the DLCs). The soundtrack is great and very varied: you've got fairly standard pop, electronica and rap, all the way to pretty badass metal stuff like Between The Buried And Me - you'll likely find stuff to your liking. There's an impressive character customization, tons of insane weapons and vehicles, and many things to do. The only downside is the lack of proper multiplayer, but if you've got a buddy, the coop is great fun - just don't expect the kind of grand scale multiplayer you see in GTA V for example.

And if you find yourself on the fence about DLCs: the 3 campaign DLCs give you achievements, in some case new areas, wacky new things to do and more. If on sale, as said, they're worth it. If you're a completionist, all the extra weapons, skins, vehicles, etc. are worth considering, do keep in mind however that if you happen to like the game very much, you have good chances of finding the Game Of The Year edition cheaper than you could buy all the DLCs for, even if they happen to go on sale. Keep that in mind, before a DLC shopping spree. Lastly, if you enjoy(ed) the game, right in May comes out the Game Of The Century edition for Saints Row IV - it is more of the same, almost identical gameplay, except even more bonkers. The 30 bucks it starts off for the base game and all DLCs is definitely a solid price of admission if you can't get enough of Saints Row 3, because the 4th one indeed feels like a giant DLC, because graphics, gameplay, menus, etc. make it seem like it's SR3 all over again.

I hope this helps anyone, I'll probably post this again when the game becomes free, maybe other things will pop to my mind until then.
I rarely read giant textwalls like this but this was great. Thanks for the advice. I loved SR4, expecting to have an equally great time with this one.

Also sucks that SR3 isn't the first of the month. Id get waaay more play time then since Wolfenstein and Watch Dogs drop at the end of May.

Kinda bummed that SR3 was the other title, since I rebought at the start of the year in order to get the 100% achievement completeion (which I got btw). Might be the first month where I actually already owned both titles.

Yep. Those two games are gonna keep me busy well into July at least. Might not get around to SR3 until August. And then of course we'll get 4 more games for free by then....*sigh*

Since when did 30ish-40ish hours become not long?
lol. Yeah It's shorter then SR2, but longer then SR4 when you don't count DLC.

Personally 30-40 hours is quite long enough. I don't want something that's going to take me a ton of hours unless It's a MMORPG or RPG or It's something I'm going to focus on for MP like Titanfall/PVZ. I like games in the 10hourish range, especially for the backlog.

Here's a good website to get a better understanding how long it should take you to beat a specific game. Dust averages around 10 hours http://www.howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=2981 . Of course it all depends on your play style/achievement whoring.

For an open world, 100% completion in 30-40 hours is not a lot. And by that time you get all achievements, all side-missions, all upgrades: everything. Add the DLCs to the mix and it's like 6 more hours, it is pretty short by open world standards. GTA games are longer. Saints Row 1 and 2 are longer. And so on. Saints Row 4 is shorter, but that's one of the downsides of the game, there seems to be a trend of games getting shorter.

To add, as said, I did not use guides. I messed around a lot because it's a fun game. I spent too much time fighting gangs and stuff, not knowing I could quite literally kill them with one button later in the game. With all the DLCs, my main save docked around 43 hours for 100% completion of everything. Which means that if you happen to "know the game", are an achievement hunter, or simply kick ass, the number can be significantly lower. It's not extremely long for a GTA-style game, but of course the added lenght is in how much time you'll spend in having fun, single player or coop.

The Skullgirls Character Palette Bundle, just like the two DLC characters a couple days ago, just became free, it's normally 5$. Go go go!

Only GWG I've already owned so far have been Fable III, Gears of War, Sleeping Dogs, Civ Rev, and now Saints Row The Third. Not too bad.

Own and beaten all those games. I Kinda wish they would just take all the $5 XBLA games that first came out and just made those free.

Well like many I already own Dust but still have not touched it but that is cool since the game deserved a little support.  SR3 is a nice addition if only to remove it from my long list of PS+ games I need to play.  I have not bought one physical game in like 6 months and have not regretted it yet.  I may not buy a game for the rest of 2014 at this rate.

I'm all for this, personally . However, people would gripe that we're getting games that are 8+ years old for free and are the extremely cheap games since Arcade game go for $10-$20. MS will never win lol

Ahh man that list was depressing lol, have 18 of the free GwG titles if including Saints Row: The Third and Dust: An Elysian Tail.

I got Saints Row: The Third The Full Package about a month ago for like $10 so I guess there's that.

Dust is an awesome game, still wowed by the fact that it was made by practically one dude.

Wait... What?!? Uhhh... Viva Piñata is a kids game! Who would buy that? ***Creeps to xbox to buy it***
I love Viva Pinata. My friends started to like it too until I named all the dogs after them and then they began to do the dance and get it on. They started to get all pissed when the eggs hatched and I named their bastard children. They went into the kitchen to drink all my whiskey after that. Such rude guests........

Sweet. I guess they didn't lie about making it free after all. They just hadn't technically released the bundle yet, is all. Nabbed, thank you.

Ah, someone who feels my pain. I didn't think anyone else owned 15+ of these games like me. :p

Anyways, SR3 is a good pick because it'll boost the online. Ideally, it'd be SRIV, but we all know it's too recent a release for it to happen, but SR3 didn't come out THAT long ago, so it's not terrible.

I think this is the first GwG I haven't owned since... Might & Magic? It's been a while. (Unless you wanna count owning Sleeping Dogs on a non-Hungarian account).

Well, I wanted Dishwasher so bad since i already own Dust. Haven't event touched Dust, bit for less than 3 bucks im ok. SR3, well... don't know if they relate but i haven't even played Sleeping Dogs so this one goes to the basement of the backlog. Speaking of backlog i 1000'ed Dark Souls 2 and was planning to dig through the pile, but damn this game is so good. Anyways i'm starting to think that my grandchildren are gonna hate with the backlog leftovers i'll be leaving for them.
You must fire up The Sleeping Dogs, that game was seriously fun. Why in the hell would you backlog being a Jet F**king Lee badass in an open world. As they say around these parts, that game was fire.

Jet Li, not Lee. And I also don't think that's his middle name.

There are so many games in the backlog it's insane. Do I wanna be a Jet Li badass in this game? How about a cybernetic gigilo assassin? Or a gang leader who is now the President of the United States with awesome weapons at my disposal? Or a Don of the mafia who harbours this evil inside which can rip just about anything to shreds with it's tentacles?

Yeah, just too much to choose from. I'm going back to Viva Pinata now.........

Man... Looking through my pins, I will never finish my digital backlog... I think the only things in my physical backlog are Res Evil 6 and Silent Hill Downpour. Still have a few things to finish like Gears 3 and still have to play some NASCAR 14, but my digital backlog (even without the 18 GWG that I downloaded) is just stupid.

For some reason, I didn't get Iron Brigade when it was free... Not that I would miss it.

I don't think you want Viva Piñata Party Animals. I adore the Viva Piñata series, and I don't even have that one. If you are specifically looking for a Mario Part type game, you could do worse.

@Bobby and Spybreak9 I own(ed) all but 2 of the GWG titles. The only ones I didn't already have were the Magic game (I had the previous year though) and Dead Rising 2 (I already own 3 and the two XBLA Case titles) so even those weren't that great. For this month I already own Dust, From Dust, SR3 and both Dishwasher titles so basically all the games and their variations given to every country this month lol.

I've given up hope until the XB1 titles are announced. And even then with my luck they'll give us Halo Spartan Assault or Peggle 2 since I already own those. Or maybe even Dead Rising 3. I really hope they give away Max on XB1 since I do want it and held off on buying to avoid getting burned more. I'm really banking on those XB1 titles. Though I imagine they'll work through all the titles I'm not very interested in like Lococycle, Crimson Dragon and Powerstone Golf. And I've been trying to avoid buying most XBLA sales due to that history.

TLDR; I feel your pain.

Tremors is free to watch on Xbox Video...time to make my girlfriend watch some vintage Kevin Bacon

I saw that on the dash last night. My wife laughed and said, "who the hell wants to watch that crappy movie?!" I replied ME

Sweet. I have the "Quadrilogy" on DVD (yes there were four movies, and I only liked the first two), but in for a digital copy. Good on you two for trying to get more fans of the female persuasion for the series.
Thanks for the heads-up. I haven't seen the fourth yet. Did you guys see or like that series they had on Sci Fi?

Saints Row 3 was Cheapy's GOTY lol.

Dust is awesome.

Both great choices.
I agree. I'm sad that I already have those games, but it's another great month of freebies. Meanwhile, GTA3 is still pissing me off. Damn police boat can't catch up to/fire at the enemy boat.

And my GWG lists comes to ...... ZERO. Either because I had the games already or because I didn't like the games (Dead Rising, Civilization, that tower defense game I forgot the name of that sucks compared to Toy Soldiers).

If I could still get them, I would have owned all but 2 of the GwG, Magic and Civ Rev.  No interest in the first and thoroughly beat and sold the second.

Already have Dust and still have yet to play it but an amazing offering of games this month. I can't wait to try out SR3 and hoping they put the DLC on sale with it.

I find it very annoying that I can't download free things through the website without adding a CC.
I think I've read that if you get a prepaid card from places like a bank, or even Best Buy with credit, you can put that into the Xbox site and use that as a 'credit card' for the time. Even one that is drained might work in this case. I agree though, I don't like that setup at all.

My cousin's son was over a few weeks ago and I thought he had downloaded a bunch of games without asking me. Fortunately they were only trials, but since I wasn't in the room at those brief moments I would have been charged if they were full games.

Can we still not use our points or Xbox money on the site?

That MS wants my CC info tied to my account so it can get hacked again and charged for a bunch like it did a few years ago?
Shit sucks but this can happen with any business you make purchases with using a card. Its not like it was MS's fault. They have security measures in place to minimize shit like this from happening. Some scumbag hackers are just that good, though.

By good you mean good at making phishing or "free Microsoft Points HERE!!!" sites.

There's a ridiculous amount of security you can add to your account now. Personally I use Authenticator and text.
