I haven't played Resistance yet. I'd like to get the collection but I usually see it ~$30. :(
I think the lowest I've seen is $20 (that was this past holiday). Might've been lower once from bby, don't recall. It doesn't seem like there's too many copies of the collection in the wild anymore, so you may be better off watching individual game prices now.

I tried to read Zimm's review he posted, and when I click on it I'm being redirected to a site about meeting black singles. www.blacktryst.com

I find it pretty hilarious for some reason.

If this turns out to be the God of War announcement at E3 I am selling all my Sony stuff.
I was going to make this joke when you talked about God of War 4. I hope they don't do that shit. I understand the Last of Us port but really God of War.

Maybe Sony will skip GoW 4 and go right to 5. Just like the Retron 5 skipped #4.

I was going to buy Child Of Light and Octodad for the PS4 but I see that now they went back up to regular price..is it worth buying at regular price or should I wait til they have another one of those PSN+ member discounts?

Infamous Second Son sold over a million copies and that was the best selling or fastest selling Infamous to date. The Last of Us surpassed 6 million in sales. Sony exclusives are on a little bit of an upswing. However games like Gears of War and Halo have definitely sold better. I'd say advertising has a big part to do with it. All of Sony's commercials barely ever show games.

Where is it documented that Xbox exclusives sell better? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you guys, just curious.
You're right to question this. I'm not sure i've seen figures, but i'm sure they exist. Regardless, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that games like Puppeteer and Starhawk aren't burning up the charts. Perhaps the biggest exclusives for both systems sell fairly evenly, but even then I doubt that stuff like Uncharted ever beats Halo or Gears.

Random examples:

Gears of War 3 sold more than 3 million copies during its first week.

Halo Reach sold 4 million in its first week.

Halo 4 sold 3.7 million copies in its first day.

Uncharted 3 shipped 3.8 million in its first week.

The Last of us It sold 1.3 million copies in the first week.

Infamous 2 sold 369,000 copies in North America during the game's first month.

Resistance 3 sold 180,000 copies during its first month in America.

I could go on, but I feel these are some of Sony and Microsoft's biggest exclusives to come out in the past few years and the numbers speak for themselves. Aside from stuff like Forza vs Gran Turismo you aren't likely to find a Sony exclusive that even approaches the numbers Microsoft's almost always do. It's a shame because a lot of these are fantastic games, but marketing really does play a big part and Sony keeps dropping the ball.

Harmonix has updated their FAQ on the Amplitude kickstarter trying to explain, among other things, the funding level. I believe them when they say that the game will cost far more than $775,000 to make, that even with the Kickstarter there will be a substantial financial risk for them in making it. I also now believe that they are bad at making games.

Ok, I jest. Maybe that is what something on this level would cost. If so I don't see it ever happening. On a related note, they say that Vita will be a stretch goal. Well, OK, then.

True, but Octodad was for 11.99..now back up to 14.99..worth buying at full price? I played it yesterday at Gamestop, cool game, just dont want to pay full price and find out that in a few weeks they will lower the price for both
If you buy it and end up thinking it was worth $14.99, then the answer is yes.

I wrote a review for Conception II on Vita if anyone cares.

My official CAG recommendation: Wait for a sale. Probably a deeper one.

Thanks for the review. My favorite paragraph from it:

Once your relationships have blossomed, you can go to the church for the classmating ceremony. Now classmating isn’t exactly sex. But it kind of is. I mean, there’s talk of touching, but there’s also talk of weirdness in kissing. There’s panting after it’s finished and embarrassment too. And the J-pop song that plays during the brief scene showing the ritual (as neon silhouettes no less) contains the lyrics “Just wanna make love.” So who knows what the hell is going on there. But it’s probably against the law in your state.

Gears and Halo are huge for Microsoft for sure. But they are at the top of the heap. After that, isn't there a huge drop off in terms of exclusives for them? Alan Wake, Forza, Fable? Sony has many more exclusives of consequence, potentially watering down the sales numbers as the potential purchases get spread out a bit more. Sony has many more mouths to feed. Xbox has Gears, and Halo.

Halo is almost unfair to compare, in that Sony doesn't have an answer for it. I guess you could say Killzone, but comparing those numbers would be laughable. Unfortunately FPS is still the most popular genre, and one that Halo helped define 1,000 years ago when the Original Xbox released. MS scores huge points there.

I agree that Gears probably outsells Sony's best exclusive, which I'd have to assume is Uncharted. But I'd think it's close at least. A lot of that is probably due to marketing, which I also agree MS is much better at, here in the US at least. No idea about across seas.

But beyond that, what is there? Fable and Forza? Maybe Forza sells better than GT but I doubt Fable sells better than God of War. And then what about games like Ratchet & Clank, Resistence, Infamous, Little Big Planet, The Show, Quantum Dream games vs. Kinect Sports, Dance Central, Crackdown.

Maybe Sony spreads themselves too thin with exclusives. (Not that I would complain about that, it's one of the main reasons I chose Sony).

Haha your numbers reflect pretty much exactly what I typed. Uncharted and Gears are relatively close and Halo is uncontested. MS seems top-heavy whereas Sony is more spread out. Both options seem to work.

I'll agree that Microsoft's exclusive sales are probably higher than Playstation's, but I think it has to come with a qualification, that being that the Halo series alone has a serious skew on the numbers.

I thought 360 always had a large lead in consoles sold until late in the cycle, so I could see why 360 exclusives would outsell Sony's. Also 360 exclusives tended to be mass appeal games like Gears and Halo.

You guys cracked me up today.  I got out of meetings (no coughing fits this time) and got to read through the posts.  Really good Polygon cracks.

Seriously, no joke.  Or in honor of Jay: "real talk"

Bunch of non-touchdown having PEDers.

And yes I'm still bitter about the Fail Mary game.

Haha, I was there. (Season ticket holder [like you care]). We ducked out a bit early to beat the crowd, and before we left the stadium, we snuck into a stadium employee lounge and watched that play on a 36 inch TV for god's sake with about 30 employees/fans that were all crowded into that room. After that play, it was pretty much a mosh pit of bodies bouncing off each other. My condolences for your loss.

I'm not going to check those numbers, but they are not 'random' examples you selected :p

Also, there are other better selling PS exclusives like for example: (life sold I believe)

God of War III has sold 4.66 million

Gran Turismo V 10.91 million

Uncharted 2 6.37 million

Metal Gear Solid 5.87 million

LittleBigPlanet 1 5.43 million

etc etc etc

In the end PS has had more exclusives this past gen so the numbers will be a little more spread out, but I think both are more or less neck and neck when you add all exclusives in a lump sum.

BTW the competitor to halo is GT in sales/popularity IMO

Every time someone mentions that game I'm reminded of this funny conversation thread on Reddit, which happened about a year after the Fail Mary game:

Wow, I'm really surprised to see Uncharted 2 sell only 6.37 million units (if correct). For being the best game of the generation, IMO, I would have thought it would have sold more.

Let me fix this for you. Penguins and Reggie Miller sucks! Maybe that will allow the hate to flow again.
I don't really have a problem with others insulting my teams and favorites, since they do in fact suck much of the time.

I just get personally offended when someone is a fan of a team I hate. And with the success that the Dolphins, Astros, and Pacers have had since my birth, I more frequently end up getting more enjoyment out of watching the teams I hate lose. But when they win, it stings.

Also my on-again, off-again g/f is a huge Seahawks fan. She's fuck ing insufferable.

Oh no. She didn't call you Russell Wilson in bed did she? My wife does, but I don't mind.

Third person action/adventure/shooters dont have the same mass appeal as the FPS like Halo and Gears. And again, when Uncharted 2 came out I am positive 360 had a large lead on PS3 install base. Also, every fuck ing person alive who owned a 360 bought Halo and probably Gears 2 if not the first.

I wasn't going off of life sales, but I'm sure if I checked the numbers would still be in Microsoft's favor for the games I picked, which I chose because I considered them among the most prominent exclusives of the last few years. You can say Sony exclusives sell worse because there are more of them, but even if collectively they sell close to what Microsoft's handful of exclusives sell, that doesn't matter because the studios that make them aren't created as a lump sum. If a game under performs then it's unlikely the franchise will continue, and it makes sense for the developer to seek other options. I love how many great exclusives Sony puts out, but they can't afford to keep doing it if they aren't going to sell well enough because there are too many games for them to promote (and they do a lousy job of even the ones they chose to advertise).

I'm not trying to sound like a Microsoft fanboy, and I really love a ton of Sony exclusives, but I don't think Sony sees all exclusive gross/single game sales as the same thing so it doesn't make a lot of sense to compare them in this context.

This certainly doesn't invalidate your comment, but Gears of War is a FPS?

I feel like that about Uncharted 2, how can you own a PS3, and NOT have accidentally purchased or received as a gift Uncharted 2 along the way...

You might need to check what-person type of game Gears is.

But yeah, Gears is the biggest "bro" game there is after CoD, even moreso than Halo. Microsoft did an amazing job positioning it that light and getting the bros to buy in. And yes I'm using "bro" as a derogatory term, but it's also a huge market that companies would be stupid to ignore. It's the "bros" that bought 8 million copies of Black Ops 2 in one day.

Sorry, I know Gears is third person, but I wasnt thinking of it like Uncharted since its really all about the shooting. At least compared to Uncharted. My bad.

You're not wrong but Halo selling like gang-busters has little effect on the potential success of Sunset Overdrive.

But instead of sales numbers, I'm starting to think Insomniac saw the dearth of exclusives on the 360 and decided it was a bigger ocean for them compared to all the competition they have with all the other PS3 exclusives. We'll see how that goes for them since MS seems to be back on the exclusives bandwagon with the One.

Those Halo numbers are incredible. But that series is synonymous with the XBOX brand since the beginning, so those numbers don't surprise me. Now one can only hope and pray that Destiny (also by Bungie) will generate at least a quarter of those Halo first week sale numbers.

Sony is really missing it's "bro" game (however dumb that makes those games sound). They seem to keep trying to position Killzone and God of War as them, but for whatever reason they don't seem to hit the same way (partly because Killzone is lackluster at best, but that's another story). The Xbox (whichever one you want to pick) has pretty much been from the get go the "bro" console, which now is probably the biggest market for games and the reason the 360 did so well.

I'm not saying Sony needs to completely copy Microsoft in that regard, and I like that they have a sort of "something for everyone" mentality to games, but as much as I adore the weekly indies and obscure arthouse games, they aren't going to sell consoles to the guy that just plays CoD (which is unfortunately a lot of people).

You're not wrong but just because Halo sells like gang-busters doesn't mean anything about Sunset Overdrive's success.

That would be a smart move of them if that's why they decided to cross over. There are fewer exclusives on Microsoft consoles (historically), which besides meaning more people are hungry for games and likely to buy anything, gives more room for those games to be promoted instead of stuck in a sizzle real with a dozen other PlayStation exclusives.

Destiny is going to do amazing numbers and be an absolutely stunning game. Book it. Thank Christ Sony is getting a piece of it.
Already did, buddy. I pre-ordered it early for the PS3 beta code. But I'm not too convince about that game, and I hope to see more of it during E3 this year. I love FPS as much as the next guy, if not more. And I love the squad-base aspect of the game, which is similar to those in Battlefield 3. And as much as people complain about BF3, I love that game, and keep coming back to it. BF4 is a completely broken game, but BF3 just works. It does make me wonder if any of those people who complained tirelessly about BF3 actually played the game much. And the squad-base gameplay that brings about the high commaraderie aspect of the game is priceless to me.

Xbox also nailed it by situating themselves at the go-to console for CoD. Timed exclusivity on the DLC was huge, having everything CoD advertised along with MS, and having a better online system, especially when it comes to chatting.

I think Sony is trying to steal a little bit of that back though. Having the more powerful console and improving online features both helped. Most people outside the US also know that Sony is the way to go at this point for the best support. MS not shutting the fuck up about TV and other non-game related features probably also helped.

No doubt. If there was a stock market just for video games, I would put everything I have in Destiny stock. There's just something about that game...and I don't even really like FPS all that much.

What happened that's causing arguments about sales numbers and stuff like that?
All the new info about Sunset Overdrive brought up Insomniac making an Xbone exclusive. And nobody's arguing we're just discussing and debating.
