Speaking of the XBL thread and I can't seem to get an answer over there, does XBL ever run one something similar to the buy 12 months get 3 months free thing we're all impatiently waiting for Sony to run? Trying to decide if I should keep using the smallest bits of time that I can or just go ahead and put one of the years I have in.

They just released a Sony exclusive a few months ago with the latest Ratchet & Clank game. They're an independent studio and they're finally exercising the freedom that comes with it. There's nothing wrong with that.

I don't like first person shooters or bro games and even I played Halo Reach and the Gears of War games.  I think you're contractually obligated to play them if you have a 360 at any point.  It's on the eula inside the 360 box.

I said I was an interested party to see if it works out for them. I am not wishing misfortune on them by any means. Duly noted on the Ratchet and Clank game, but perhaps that was a contractual obligation. First All4One, then FFA which were all well below A Crack in Time, and then Into the Nexus which was more in line with what fans of the series expect. It's like the last few months before a break up. You don't bring your A game, and you are just going through the motions until you can sneak out the back door. We'll see if they make any more Playstation games.

I never made it through a Halo game. Made it about half way through Reach with a buddy and a few levels into the remake of the first one. I don't see the appeal at all, but I don't like FPS games either. Especially military style ones that don't have any upgrades or progressions and amount to "use whatever gun you find on the ground".

I beat the first 2 Gears of War and got burnt out. They were perfectly average but nothing special. I hated how the enemies were all bullet sponges.

This is _exactly_ what I did (although I guess I didn't make it that far in to Reach). It's funny, people were all like 'I hate the bullet sponge zombies in Resident Evil ORC, what a cheap way to raise difficulty' but in the Gears games they're all like 'man, those guys are tough but completely fair!' Or at least that's the conversation I invent in my mind when a stranger makes eye contact with me at an ice cream parlour followed by a brief but complete imagining of them semi-nude.

 
I used to play the shit out of Halo 3 and Reach. Seriously, 4-5 hours a day, every day. Ah the joys of being in college. And then I got my degree, realized what trophies were and that Halo didn't have them. I said fuck that and quit playing. I'm not going to waste my time on a game with no trophies.

I've played Halo, Halo 2, and Halo Reach having gotten Reach and Halo 3 for free and they're fine game, but aren't my thing. I prefer Uncharted's more agile style of gunplay and movement to Gears' slower, plodding controls. I've been more of a fan of when Microsoft tries to do something different (Crackdown, Voodoo Vince, Viva Pinata) than their by-the-numbers stuff, though I was also a huge fan of Project Gotham Racing. I'd say Project Gotham Racing 2 is their best racing game even if that's largely because it has one of the best custom soundtrack features around that sadly got nuked for sequels because of Microsoft's dumb decision to do system-wide custom soundtrack support.

Gran Turismo series (GT, GT2, GT3 A-Spec, GT4, GT5 Prologue, GT5, and GT PSP): 70 million Source

Halo series (Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Wars, Halo Reach, Halo Anniversary, Halo 4 around launch): 50 million Source

GT3 alone sold about as much as Halo and Halo 2 combined.

To be fair, the first two GT games were on PS1 and Microsoft didn't have a competing console. Remove those, and only include games that were released while Microsoft had a chance to compete and they're about even. That being said, GT would still be more impressive to me simply because they have 5 games compared to Halo's 8.

Yeah there was no way I was dropping $500 on either system on day one. Or $1000+ for both systems. I was going to wait till Christmas 2014 before buying either but when Sony announced it was $399 it was just low enough for me to make the jump. Then I traded my super loud PS3 fat (so loud I hated playing it) for $100 to Best Buy. Then they had the Vita on sale for $169 the Sunday before Black Friday and I had $10 in Best Buy certs and $100 in credit so I decided to pick that up as well. I haven't played my 360 much since mid November. Played my PS4 a fair amount at launch but lately really playing a lot on my Vita. I did pick up a 2DS the other day (another BB sale and I had the credit) but otherwise I am sticking with Sony only for at least a year. Gears and Titan Fall very likely will not be enough for me to buy a XBox One at or near full price. I don't really care about their other exclusives.

Gears and Titanfall are about all that interest me. Gears will likely not even be out for another year plus. And maybe Titanfall 2 will be on PS4. Not worth $500 for the console, plus renewing my Live and then paying $45 for Titanfall.

I LOVED Gears of War 1-3 and even liked Judgement. Halo is blah to me. I played Reach, 3 and 4. Reach I paid full price for on or near launch to play with some friends. 3 was free on Gold and 4 was $10. I won't miss Halo at all. I also had it on the PC way back in the day. Might have been the original one not sure. Got it as a Christmas present. I think I played it for an hour or two maybe.

I wish I loved brands as much as do games. :cry: I want them all to have a good showing (exclusive or not). That said, I could never really get in to MS's franchises (except Mass Effect). Played some Halo and Gears and they never clicked for me. And Fable has to be one of the dullest things I've ever played... in life. I don't begrudge them for their success though. People evidently enjoy them.

I hope Destiny turns out to match the hype. I've watched all the release footage and it seems pretty ho hum, but the MMO premise still sounds very dope so I'll withhold judgment until the beta.

That show is coming to SLC but you have to buy a season package to get tickets.  fuck that I don't want to pay for and watch 6 plays/musicals, I barely want to see 1!

Don't get me wrong I hope all three companies do well.

But at the moment the PS4 is the one console I have to force myself to play because of a lack of fun games. E3 really can't come soon enough for the console despite the good sales at retail. I'm with you on Destiny and even more meh on Watch Dogs. Hope they announce something special for this holiday.

I personally don't care about MS this year because I don't plan on owning an XB1 anytime soon. The xbox live sub for the XB1 really doesn't seem worth it to me (features-wise) in addition to the inflated cost of the console for the non-gaming features. But good game competition is always good for the industry so I do hope they bring fun games to the table.

Nintendo has already given me some gaming juice with the several directs throughout the year so not really worried about the games coming out on the Wii U. MK8 and Smash alone have more hype than anything else announced for release thus far this year. One more big announcement for this holiday and I'm content with them to be honest.

I'm about to try this Hearthstone game. Last time I said I liked an iOS game, affa jumped on me for playing a game that is single handedly destroying the game industry. Anything I should know before saying if I like this one?

Just opened my 2000 Vita. I already had a 1000 but haven't used it in a couple of weeks. Still in the setup phase (downloading latest update) but the screen doesn't seem any worse than I remember. Granted I still need to jump into a game or two to test that part out.

Feels pretty good. Much lighter and thinner. I've been using my 1000 with the Nyko Power Grip for ~6 months, though, so it's hard to compare. The screen seems bigger. Not actually looking at the specs to compare, I'd guess the 2000 is a bit smaller than the 1000. It may just be a slight shape change giving that impression, though.

Select/Start buttons definitely are upraised. Very easy to tap. Analog feels a bit better as well. All of the buttons feel more distinct and the rear grips are much more substantial.

Heads up for those who were wondering; the 8gb card seems to be the retail packaging. There's a white sticker over the UPC label on the back. I already had a spare 8gb, so I'm planning to just take the card to Walmart or something for $20 back. I know, I'm bad.

I don't believe it was directly available on the Vita, as it required download on PS3 and transfer to the Vita. That didn't happen until eight months after the collection launched. Not having that game easily available on Vita at launch is another example of what makes Konami a "special" company.

Played a bit of Jak 2 on the 2000. Looks fine enough, but definitely jerky. I'll need to try a game without framerate issues, I think. Downloading Everybody's Golf and Muramasa Rebirth now, will report on those tomorrow if anybody cares. But so far I'm quite satisfied with the 2000 going from the 1000.
