GOG Deals Thread

I'd like to see Myth: TFL and Myth II: SB on there someday, as well. If it came with the art for those games, I'd buy 'em (at 75% off, of course) for that alone.

I think you (and I and others likely) have been spoiled of recent by the Insomnia and other special sales. If memory serves, 50%-60% is the typical non-special reoccurring discount range for GOG. That being said, there's not a whole lot left I'm looking for from them.
Agree I generally get newer indie games on Steam and older games from GOG. I usually don't buy till it's 50 or more off (Think about 65% off is a good regular sale price though 60% is more common for exact sales and 50% off for general sales). I think I've pretty much hit my GoG ceiling...for curiosity sakes how many games do you have on it? I'm at 198 games (counting free ones I got)....I appreciate the way the older games work cause I'm not as good at configuring Dosbox myself.

I'm at a measly 66 games (and counting). :-({|=

I'm only at 72 (including the freebies), but I'd say 60 of those have been bought since the Insomnia Sale. My taste (i.e. tolerance) for older games is pretty narrow, however. I can only take so much of low polygon graphics; in some instances, I'd almost rather go back to playing text adventures. Though, I agree, without GOG, I'd probably own almost none of these because my days of extensive futzing around to get a game operational are long behind me.

I take it you weren't playing games from the 80's up until the early 90's, as back in the "good old" days, even getting NEW games to work on your machine was a massive ordeal!

This was especially the case until IBM (more or less unintentionally) created a standard for DOS-based systems. The effect of this was that it made it *moderately* easier to get games working out-of-the-box—and without too much of a fuss on the user's end—on the wide range of PC systems that were available at that time.

Apple ][-series!!!

Been playing computer games since 1982, beginning with a TI-99/4A.

Hahaha! Sorry, mate; my bad (take this as what you will, but your profile photo makes you look mid to late-twenties)...

Still, if that is the case, then you're just simply spoiled by modern technology, and have completely and utterly forgotten your roots! :p

Eh, my bad; I just went by the colour in her signature (I'm too lazy—and not obsessive enough—to bother looking through previous pages to find the exact colour she uses. Besides, before you pointed it out, I genuinely thought I was using the correct hex triplet.).

I remember looking at PC's in Computer Shopper and  seeing them advertise Microsoft Flight Sim compatibility. That seemed to be the gaming benchmark at the time.

This is the ONLY time when staying up all night attending my constantly-waking newborn *actually* works in my favour...

I remember those times. Having to mess around with the autoexec.bat and config.sys files, and creating different boot disks for just about every game.

We did change things up a bit this year. While checking out, keep an eye peeled for a random chance to get a free game. Yes, this time there will be no more split second freebies so everyone has an equal chance
Well that will be slightly less frustrating. Here's the blog post. GOG has a sense of humor.

According to the gogforums and the reddit, it looks like the free games occur "randomly" at checkout.  Once you hit the process payment button there is a chance you won't be charged anything.

The fuck? So you have to buy it for it to be free? That's lame, but I guess better than how it worked last time.
