Well to be fair you're not technically buying the game, you're buying a starter pack of sorts similar to what they did with Aerena, so it's not like you're just paying $15 (or whatever it factors out to in the bundle) to get to play the game a few months before everyone else.
Yeah, but the only contents of the starter pack is 150 iocoins (I'm assuming in-game currency). No special character, no special skin, no nothing. Just in-game monies and early access, seems steep for a F2P game that's not supposed to be P2W.

and also the "ending," as well as the extremely repetitive enemy models

i actually enjoyed Rage, thought it was a fairly decent and fun, if flawed, fps
Scorchers DLC fixes some of the issues with the ending.

The truly spectacular thing about Rage is how it was able to get such great performance out of consoles. Something they're repeating with the new Wolfenstein. Maybe id can't make good games anymore, but they sure as hell can make good game engines.

Only truly awful part about Rage was the missions that had you backtrack the same maps over and over.
THIS.

A lot of that was you did the main mission, then side missions made you back-track and/or revisit areas you've already done in the main mission.

EDIT:

Rage's base-game ending sucked, but Scorchers DLC was a much better way to end things.

I'm really curious what MachineGames can do w/ the Id Tech 5 Engine for their upcoming Wolfenstein: TNO.

It does? it didn't seem like it had anything to do with the main plot
Don't listen to them. About all the Scorchers does is leaves the world open to continue other quests and to play around. It's good and worth the $1.25 when on sale, but it doesn't fix the broken base game's ending from a story perspective.

ok. yeah i played the scorchers dlc, and thought it was pretty good, especially for the 1.25 i spent on it...but their comments made me wonder if i completely missed something

Doesn't the Scorchers add a proper 'boss?'  Anyway, even for a bucko on sale I won't buy it.  Already uninstalled RAGE.  My advice to anyone who hasn't played assuming they get that DLC is to skip all/most of the side quests in the main game so you can avoid the backtracking repetition.  You really won't need the money.

Yes.

When you beat RAGE base-game w/out Scorchers, the game's OVER. You need to load saves to go back.

Scorchers DLC also opens the game-up - so you can revisit old areas and can continue on playing, even after you finish either the base-game or the DLC.

Also, Scorchers ends on a better note than RAGE base-game.

I don't mind the 'game over' at the end because I had to push myself to finish since I masochistically did all the side quests.  Pacing-wise it's horribly written how you just all of a sudden join the resistance, aren't introduced to the character of the 'evil general' until the last 20% or so, and then you never actually encounter him in-game.

Yes, Scorchers DLC adds....

...also a final and proper boss fight.

You basically battle an airship.

i fail to see what any of that has to do with the main plot, but okay

My guess - Zenimax told Id, "Dammit, Id. This game's been in the making for 7 years - finish up what you have. The rest can be a cliffhanger for DLC or maybe a sequel, if we even greenlight any of that..."

Oh, if we're talking about story - yeah, Scorchers DLC has nothing to do w/ the RAGE base-game's main plot.

But, that self-contained DLC actually has a start and end to it.

That's why I said it ends on a better note.

Would be nice if Id could get a RAGE 2 green-lighted.

EDIT:

Probably. It was obviously rushed towards the end.
Yeah, Rage's base-game ending sucked way more than the actual disappointment of ME3's so-called "ending(s)".

Haven't you been saying since forever that it fixed the bad ending? I'm sensing some inconsistencies here...
It's a feedback loop caused by a high humidity environment from the excess moisture retained in the wood paneled walls of his basement fortress of solitude.

Scorchers DLC is a self-contained story and actually ends - so, it ends on a MUCH better note.

If you're looking for a continuation to RAGE base-game's story and looking for answers from that ending - this Scorchers DLC won't solve that problem.

Scorchers DLC will open the game-up - so that whenever you finish the base-game or the DLC, you can actually keep going, keep playing in the game-world, and revisit areas you've already been to.

EDIT:

Yeah, but Rage didn't build itself up over an entire trilogy.
RAGE just....ends on an abrupt and nasty cliffhanger - similar to how Gothic 1 ended.

Rage was poop. Their megatexture thing was a failure in my opinion and it had the worst so-called ending I've ever seen. It did have nice enemy animations and good shooting though.

lkike mysterd talking hangs until 10years later inr cyclon time hehe

Dammit. All of this D3 talk lately makes me question why I didn't buy it for $20 back during that March sale.
Found a copy of the basegame on sale at Best Buy today [customspoiler='#fakeCAG confession']for $38.99 or $1 off :wall:[/customspoiler]

I held out three whole days after finding that Walmart price error on the expansion before I broke down and bought D3.

But that's still $49 for the base + exp. Doubt many people have gotten in below that total at this point in the lifecycle.

In the first four and a half months of 2014, there have already been more games released on Steam than the entirety of 2013.

Maybe id can't make good games anymore, but they sure as hell can used to make good game engines.
Fixed that for you.

Now that Carmack is gone, id could go one of two ways:

  1. They will be hampered by the loss of his creative programming genius;
  2. or they will undergo a prolific creative renaissance by no longer being chained to the whims of the mad scientist

id gets a lot of well-deserved credit for their early work, but they've done their fair share of dropping the ball in game development. They've mismanaged all of their major franchises (though people are still excited by the prospect of new entries into each). Furthermore, id lost the engine race to Epic Games big-time by being fairly uninterested in establishing a robust development pipeline.

I'm pretty sure I'm a faker CAG than that since I bought the $80 collector's edition of that expansion which actually came out to $87.59 with tax. But hey I have a skeleton dog pet.

95% of the games released via greenlight are trash.
There was a time I would have disagreed with you on that but I just can't anymore no matter how hard I might try. OTOH it's not like the stuff that Valve has been letting in without Greenlight lately has been any better so there's that.

Not too much. Just $150 + tax.
"Think about all the games, occult artifacts, and trips to the petting zoo that could be bought with that."
