Hi all. I'm getting ready for the 3-Day Weekend (Memorial Day - thanks for all you do and have done, veterans).

I'm looking for game suggestions, as the Steam "Recommendations" choices are...something of a mixed bag.

Any recommendations for a RPG similar to Bioware (narrative & choice driven) or Bethesda games (open-world)?

Narrative & Choice Driven:

* Knights of the Old Republic

* Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords (obsidian)

* Jade Empire

* Mass Effect

* Dragon Age

* Witcher: Extended Edition Director's Cut (CD Projekt RED)

* Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Extended Edition (CD Projekt RED)

* Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut (Eidos Montreal)

Open World:

* Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

* Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivian

* Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

* Fallout 3

* Fallout: New Vegas (obsidian)

Thanks!
You can't go wrong w/ ANYTHING on that list, IMHO.

Just pick something.

Combat-wise + engine-wise (without any mods, Source Ports, and whatnot)...Morrowind probably hasn't aged well. Combat was clunky even, back then. I'm just saying.

Freedom-wise, world-exploring, excellent setting, and whatnot - Morrowind's excellent, though.

Combat-wise, Mass Effect 1 - well, when compared to ME2+3 - not that great. Too much reliance on dice-rolls and stats for a game that uses WSAD and mouse-look aiming for actual shooting. But, oddly enough - the best Game-Ending Boss Fight in a ME game is actually in ME1. While ME2 might have the best Final Level in a ME game and actually one of my favorite Final Missions in a game of all time, it's Final Boss Fight was "meh." Still - ME series is loaded w/ great stories + characters - that series is ALWAYS worth playing.

If you like narrative-driven + decision-making RPG's; don't mind the challenge of being forced to HEAVILY mod the game just to get it to work (since it's a pain to get working on Win 7+8 - see HERE for more info); and don't mind a bit of clunky combat - I always suggest...

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

One of my favorite games of all time.

Another Nuuvem Dose Dupla. Two games for $10.

Bioshock

Bioshock 2

Borderlands 2

Mafia 2

NBA 2K13

Civ V

Civ V Brave New World

Spec Ops The Line

Stronghold Collection

The Darkness 2

Best price on Brave New world so far? I'm broke, so I probably won't be grabbing this one, but BNW and something else like BL2 or Darkness 2 wouldn't be an awful deal.

Maybe find someone who'll split it w/ you that wants one of the other games and you will buy you Civ5:BNW?

No - I'm not interested in this deal, BTW.

NEXTGEN!  So glad I decided against splurging on a 780.  Looks like it'll be a couple more years before really high end video cards are worthwhile.  Unless you have the need to play on a 50" television.

If you can give me $5 Amazon GC, I could do a split with you, but first thing's first.

Is the Stronghold Collection or NBA2k13 worth $5? Those are the only two I'm really looking at tbh. I'd look at BL1: GotY if it was included.

I know NBA2k13 had its online removed, but I remember people in this thread saying it was kind of better than 2k14, which I already got for <$3.

Stronghold Collection, couldn't tell you. Seems to be a popular series, but I've never played them. Also, dunno if that's a Steam key or not on that one.

NBA2K13 is good, I have it. I've heard it's better than the new one too (apparently the AI sucks in 14), but I haven't played 14 so I can't say from experience.

I haven't gotten too far in career mode on 2K14, but compared to 2K13 I was able to perform a lot better in the rookie showcase and got a much better draft position, which sucked because in 2K13 I ended up with the Thunder.  I'll have to scale back my awesome skills so I can get drafted by the Mavs.

Thanks for the recommendation.

That game is legendary; I keep seeing it on "Best RPG" lists.

I generally play with a controller, but have used PinnacleGameProfiler (similar to XPadder) to play games like Witcher 1 - and that played okay.

Thanks for Inescapable.
That reminds me.

People who bought the Night Sky Bundle from LazyGuys Studio should have been emailed their Steam key for Inescapable now.

You don't have to do the Greenlight code bullshit this time either. :)

Edit: Inescapable is also eligible for a 10 pence "Play for the first time" reward from Playfire.

Don't know if mentioned but TotalBiscuit announced today that he's got cancer diagnosed, sad news.
Sad indeed. I hope he has a speedy (and full) recovery... Not just because I like him and his videos but because I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone. Not a good way to go.

I am sort of curious how long it took for him and his doctor to go through his options...?

Playing Cook, Serve Delicious (Android App bought the the bazillion coins Amazon has been handing out)

So awesome!

(9 AM) First customer of the day comes in...Orders a Beer

Me: I understand buddy, going to be a rough day for ya.

Does anyone else feel dirty when setting their Steam status to "Looking to Play?"

That said, I'm up for some gaming tonight, down for most anything, Killing Floor, F2P games, etc.  Hit me up if you are interested in a horrible co-op partner or some easy DM kills.   :grouphug:

How has Earthbound not suckered you into playing WarZ tonight?

As someone who has played both Oblivion and Skyrim and loved them, is Morrowind worth playing? I'm sure I could pick it up on sale when it gets low enough... but I feel like I already have a huge backlog. Is there anything about it that makes it stand out from Oblivion/Skyrim.

As for Bizzquick's question, I'd play Fallout New Vegas ... if you skip the DLC it is a pretty short game that you could get far into in a three day weekend, but it's still pretty fun. The map is not as big as other open-world games, but it still has plenty to explore.

Oh my................If you loved Oblivcrap and Skyshit, you should avoid Morrowind at all costs. You're welcome.

I've got the original Stronghold and Crusader in my backlog, but I haven't gotten around to playing them (mostly on account of the fact that they don't play friendly with my Macbook). That said, it looks like the historical low for Stronghold Collection is $3.39 (GMG, about half a year ago), and they've also had it for $5 as recently as April. Not sure if any of their discount codes applied, but it seems likely; so up to you on whether you'd want in for $5 on that.

Yes it's worth playing though you will need to mod it, at very least graphically.

What does it have that Oblivion and Skyrim don't?

*Sigh* These kids today, I tell ya!

It's got atmosphere in droves and IMO a much more interesting main plot, for starters.

It's really unique though. Not really like anything else. They took the dark elves trope and ran way the hell away with it in such a different direction that it really does feel like an entire other world right down to the plant and animal life. It's not your average generic fantasy game by any stretch.

Morrowind has MUCH more freedom (in some ways) than the other two (Skyrim + Oblivion); and the actual ENVIRONMENTS are probably the best stuff they've ever done overall in this particular series. While Skyrim and (especially Oblivion) are much more traditional to what we normally see in RPG's, fantasy, medieval, and those genre - Morrowind's is just way MORE off-beat in comparison. Morrowind's best boss-fight is probably in the Tribunal expansion; and the werewolf-based stuff Bloodmoon was great.

What I mean by the "freedom" - in Morrowind, you CAN kill key figures (like Lord Vivec) that you actually need to keep alive to actually finish the main quest - and you can actually BREAK the Main Quest....to the point you CANNOT finish the game. And the game will warn you, if you succeed - "To continue main quest, please load an earlier save...or live forever in a broken world" - or to something of that sort and effect. If you ever wanted to sandbox the hell out of a game and say "Toss the main quest" by killing off key figures like Lord Vivec, you can do so - and if you can kill Lord Vivec, BRAVO! :D That is NOT easy to do!

Pretty much, Oblivion and Skyrim cut this kind of stuff off - so you can't break the game.

Morrowind does have it issues, set-backs, and things that have not aged well. That might be the toughest hurdle for you to get around. There are NOT tons of voice-acting (well, that could be for the better - given how many RPG's treat voice-acting and re-using voice-actors to death); it does have tons of global variables when selecting conversation topics (i.e. what one NPC might say in Vivec, another NPC might say the same encyclopedia-like paragraph of stuff in Balmora - WTF?); travelling is done via Silt-Striders to certain locations (no true-blue Fast-Travelling system here).

I've loved Morrowind: GOTY; Oblivion GOTY Deluxe; and Skyrim - I've easily spent over 100 hours w/ each of those. For actual content, I think some of the most memorable stuff included the Split quest from Oblivion; Dark Brotherhood quest-line from both Oblivion + Skyrim; Tribunal's final main quest battle; and especially Shivering Isles expansion (from Oblivion). Sure, that ain't everything I can think of - but that's what is sticking out for me.

I remember trying to play Morrowind a few times. A flying monster wouldn't leave me alone. I ran into a town thinking the guards would save me. They were all killed by the flying monster. Then I gave up on the game.

There's no way someone can love Obliviblah and Skydull and then appreciate Morrowind. Mark my words, he'll be back in no time to ask where Caius Cosades is.

I've got around 113 hours or so w/ FO:NV Ultimate according to Steam.

I'd recommend the Ultimate Ed.

That way, one can give theirself the option to try Josh Sawyer's Hardcore Mode if so desired (Obsidian's lead on FO:NV - he wanted to make it ever harder for himself, so he made that Mod); b/c the DLC's are quite good; and b/c Old World Blues is one of the best DLC's that I've ever played.

Get out of here with your next gen graphics. We used this on a typewritter (do you even know what that is?).

Holy crap I don't remeber typewriters having such realistic graphics. She looks just like a real person.

I'm buying this when it goes cheap on Steam.

Oh and she got a makeover. No more 80s Janet Jackson in a powersuit look. She's going for more of a Michelle Obama goes preppy look these days.
