Maybe they showed it now so they don't have to show it at E3.
If it doesn't get delayed it's going to be their most promoted game. The original purpose of E3 isn't to hype their fans, it's to convince retailers to stock their products for the fall-holiday season. Each year you get a whole lot of what you have already seen and a few teasers for what they will show you next year. This is because the primary purpose is to demonstrate actual products that they want you to buy soon.

Whatever is new this year will be the same way: teased now, shown more in depth next E3.

So, no flash sale?

Which CAG do I blame for getting my hopes up?

If your only motivation to play the gamespy games you've had laying around is the trophies you may want to just opt for some games you're looking forward to playing. I mean they were just laying there untouched and neglected prior to the server announcement, that kinda says something.

I have bookshelves of books I havnt read. I have gameshelves of games I have never played. If someone told me some of my books are going to become unreadable soon, I would try to prioritize them to the front of the list. It isn't about the trophies, although them becoming 'unachieveable' does suck and push me, but really the fact they are becoming 'unplayable' is what motivates me. I am the old guy in twilight zone with all those books I want to read but then I break my glasses. ooops, spoiler.

server shutdown announcements just give me a reason to play a game as much as dropping tivs on a new game. I don't really look forward to playing games, it just kinda happens.

also i did pause my gamefly marathon for a wolfenstein marathon, so i am taking your advice to play games i am looking forward to play ish. I am looking forward to playing section 8 / prejudice, etc. just get so busy with work and kids and life and then next thing you know, they are pulling the server down. I am too slow for this world, lol. I should prioritize more and play online games cuz you never know when they will turn themselves off. I have been great at abstaining from Call of Duty this past 2 weeks.

my ps+ ends in 2019. I am gonna be pushing to play all those ps+ games in 2018. lol, im joking i will resubscribe and never play them. ocd cag. always buying games but never playing them, haha.

velo gets post of the week

edit - like an idiot I picked up Ghostbusters to try and find some people to play online since I skipped that part when I played on 360. of course the servers shut down two years ago, so whoops.

Blame The Order: 1886. If they didn't put all their resources into streaming that game then they would have had a flash sale.

Don't make me Ratuken u!

Oh snap, just found out something in AC4 that relates to another Ubisoft game coming out next week.

Hacking one of the computers in the Abstergo office gives you information on ctOS, created by the Blume Corporation. This is the same security/infrastructure that Watch Dogs is based around. So it looks like Watch Dogs takes place in the same universe as the AC series.

Edit: Nevermind, the Ubisoft has apparently said the two games don't take place in the same universe. It would've been cooler that way.

Welcome to 2013. :dunce:

The ending, much like the one at the end of the first game, opened it up for some really awesome things to happen as your mind raced to wonder what it means and where they'll go. Then they saw how well AC2 sold and decided to put the overall story stuff on hold in a comically cartoonish fashion. The continued success of the Ezio epic trilogy lead to them thinking that the best thing for AC3 was to go all-in on that Animus story, which means you don't even play as the main character for several hours because they were so full of themselves that they thought that was a great idea.

At least ACIV allowed them to just reset things a bit with an incredible real world set-up and focus on the ship combat and the core mechanics of the Animus simulation. [customspoiler='Awesome ACIV Spoilers']You're a newly hired game tester at Abstergo Entertainment, makers of AC3 and Liberation, that is given the task of playing these parts of Edward's story to see if they're good enough to be included into ACIV, which includes a ratings system.[/customspoiler] It's just a shame that they blew what was leading up to be a great overarching story and wrote it off as an unimportant part of the game now.
Ok, Frisky, I have to call you out on something here.

What do you mean by they blew the overarching story? I'm only halfway through AC4, and it's pretty obvious that they're carrying on with the story that was set up with Desmond and crew in the previous games. This is apparent right from the second present day sequence, when you start interacting with some of Desmond's old pals. There are even hints that Abstergo is using the game making as a front so people don't question their Animus stuff. You go up to the boss's office, and he flat out says "Hey, this stuff you're finding out for our game is great and all, but there's something we want you to look for." I haven't seen anything thrown out the window yet.

I powered through the rest of Velocity Ultra and platinum it tonight. According to the in game stats I clocked in at a little over 10 hours. Vigilante, I beat zone 48 my first attempt and the relax challenge in about 5 minutes. Zone 50 wasn't horrible either, that took about 20 minutes to perfect. The Space Invaders clone was my downfall, died on the 4th level probably 6 or 7 times in a row. Such a slow paced bonus mission to have to keep retrying.

Overall I loved loved loved it. It's now my second favorite game on Vita behind P4G.

I played more of Uncharted 1. Gameplay is still pretty bad, maybe even worse with the jet skis, but at least the story is good enough to make me want to continue. I'm 59% of the way through according to the save.

Well, bought my first PS4 game as Best Buy's DOTD is Infamous: Second Son.  Had a $10 GC so it ended up being about $29 after tax.  Probably could get it cheaper by the time I get the PS4 but I wanted to make sure I got the DLC.

I'm hoping there's a PS4 bundle of any sort announced at E3. If not I'll break down and get one anyways, but it would be nice to have a game thrown in with it. Not holding my breath, though, unless Sony thinks they need a response to some Microsoft news.

I just watched The Order footage. To my surprise it actually looks really good (graphically). Better than anything out, at least. I'm a sucker for games with this kind of Victorian setting, though. Reminds me of Dishonored. Steampunk maybe.. Only thing I'm not keen on is the aiming. Looks a little TLoU/Uncharted-ish (and I absolutely hate the gunplay in those). Hard to say whether it'll just be another derivative TPS with that short of a preview, lol. That was literally nothing so I don't understand all the commotion. Hopefully what they show at E3 quells concerns.
I feel he's brought it up at least a half dozen times every press release going back and forth on what res/fps it will run at.
True, but I mean in regard to the apparent graphical downgrade. Expected him to be the loudest complainer, but he may be playing on PC where it's less of an issue. It's crazy that I like what little I've seen of The Order but am thoroughly unimpressed the more I see Watch Dogs. Once again the odd man out. :bouncy: Granted it doesn't help I'm ticked at Ubi for not allowing reviews or critical impressions while colluding with every publication to promote the shit out of it.

I think the strongest third person "shooter" I've played in a single or multiplayer setting was MGS4. I liked the smoothness and how the snapiness of the controls.

Uncharted and TLOU have felt sluggish for me and they're hailed as masterpieces(hmmm). I don't really know how I feel of Ground Zeroes' shooting mechanics. If it translates as such to the future online component of MGSV, I think it will be an issue of mastering nuances. Haven't seen The Order in action, but 30 FPS, when inFamous and GZ have established 45/60 FPS, is hard to swallow. It also looks like a game which could take advantage of couch coop, at least.

If the order isn't higher than 30fps that's a shame. I don't mind the rest but I thought the best thing about new consoles wad going to be higher graphical fidelity and locked in 60fps.

Yeah, it'll take a bit for them to develop the tools to the point where this is standard. 30fps wasn't always present on the PS3.

hahahahaha

If you were expecting all games to run native at 1080p/60fps you're going to be in for a rude awakening (I doubt even most hit that). Most developers are willing to sacrifice res/fps in favor of more impressive effects/textures, because most people don't notice that anything was lost.

They managed to churn out comparable or better games to 360 with a 256 MB graphics chip. 8 GB of DDR5 should eliminate 30FPS...

Kojima is clearly a wizard then, running a 1080p/60 FPS open world game. I saw the Digital Foundry analysis and was simply stunned at the technical achievements. When I went to a last gen version, running 720p/30FPS....the horror.

You're overlooking that it took time for them to do that, and that most PS3 games weren't at 1080p either (even now, let alone at launch.) Development tools, learning the hardware, and optimization take a while.

Holy shit guys, I tried playing Legend of Zelda on NES this morning and can't do it. It's not even 60fps! And the graphics are all pixelated, not even 1080p. Clearly the only standard by which to judge a game's merit is how many fps it has, so I'm just going to throw anything that doesn't reach those benchmarks in the trash.

If I had a irrelevant/unfunny gif in that post, I could've won GAF post of the year.

If I somehow made a dig at Microsoft, it would be GAF post of the century.

Dat FPS on Pokemon Stadium runs solid, though.

Needed a dig at Nintendo, Microsoft, a stupid gif and colored font a la steam thread. You'd been a God among men.

Wasted opportunity, cap.

I just figured by now we would see 60fps standard. I am no tech nerd so I don't know what goes into it. But it seems like we should have it by now. Also my herniated discs (3) acted up and I am high on pain killers and muscle relaxers right now. So it took me about 20minutes to type this and ensure it isn't too fucked up like me.

what I think is funny, is all Xbox fans tout is there amazing exclusives and that includes Gears of War... with the Order we get the same type of game to combat that, so i don't see that being a point they can latch on to... but i am sure they still will ;)
I don't get why gamers take digs at other gamers because they feel like their system is better. News flash, of you are having fun then nothing else matters. I have a vita, 3dsxl, ps3, ps4, wiiU, and xb1. Each console has its own pluses and minuses. I like them all for different reasons.

Ok, but seriously. Is this Muramasa DLC worth the $2.49 each or what? I have the game, but haven't played it yet.
I don't know about the DLC, but I'm 2/3 done with one of the two characters you play the game through with. I'm looking forward to being done with it, because it's kind of an annoying game. Lots of running through empty screen after empty screen. Every time you clear an area you have to spend 3-4 minutes running back through it to get to the next area to progress into. Even when you're in unexplored territories there are a lot of empty screens; no items, no enemies, you just run across it to get to the next screen.

The combat is meh overall. Some of the enemies are cheap and annoying; as a general rule they can roll/fly offscreen so you're just stuck waiting for them to wander back into view so you can kill them. There are a number of flyers as well, and some of them go high enough that you have to jump up, hit them a few times, fall down, repeat. The bosses are similarly gimmicky. OTOH there are some points where you fight a large number of enemies and it's all about just beating the crap out of an entire army.

The sword/upgrade system is plain annoying and stupid.

I got MR with my EU PS+ sub. I'd be regretting that purchase if I'd paid for it, and can't recommend paying more for DLC if you haven't already verified that you like the game in the first place.

Developers are always going to push the hardware to the limits to make the games look as good as possible without any concern for things like framerate. Just look at the end of last-gen where you had plenty of developers willing to release games with bad/shaky framerates so that the games looked as good as possible instead of being more conservative to hit a good/stable framerate. The only difference is that some of the bigger developers have more horsepower than they need, but that'll change as their engines and tools mature over time.

Well that seems disappointing. Maybe I won't even bother with it then. It seems like having the enemies come back after a certain amount of time passed would have been an easy solution. Batman Blackgate had the same issue.

AC4 note: One thing I am getting sick of is the missions where you have to tail people/ships. It's like every other mission has you slowly tailing something. I wish I could just say here, take 50% of my money and let me skip this stupid tailing mission.

Once an area is cleared, it's cleared, Until you've cleared the area, running back and forth between screens can re-pop a group of enemies. So yeah...at least the navigation is really simple. You're just holding left or right and running through screen after screen. On occasion they'll put the portal to the next screen up on a cliff so you have to jump to keep going. Maybe once or twice in an area you'll have a bridge in the middle of the map that you hit X at to take you up or down to the next screen (instead of the normal left or right.) But that's it.

How long are you going to continue to make this joke? It doesn't even make sense.

Last gen it was Max Payne 3 for me, followed closely by Vanquish. I liked ME2's and Spec Ops' controls as well. I've already said my piece on TLoU's aiming, lol. Just not responsive enough for me, but we're in the minority on that it seems.

That's because "most" people don't know any better.

Max Payne 3 was good, because there were things that you don't find in a lot of TPS games. It was quick, responsive, bullettime was amazing. Most TPS games are slow and sluggish, but not MP3. Probably the only Rockstar game that can be argued as a good game. The rest are turds, as we've all agreed on in the past.

And wtf, guys? Where were you when I said that TLoU's controls were shit a few months ago? All I got were people yelling at me about how it was an amazing story, so the controls didn't matter. Or if the controls sucked, it was because that's what ND was going for, not because they suck at implementing control schemes in their games. I could've used a mercenary on my side, Breaky.

I've been saying that the whole time, but people are too busy mistaking me for other people to notice.
