Screen tearing is mostly obvious in cut scenes. But who the fuck watches cut scenes?

I've never noticed it during gameplay. But maybe I only play awesome games.
With screen tearing, I think "I'm playing so well, the game can't keep up!"

Really, all these problems are minor for most games. If a game is poorly made, you notice all these problems. If a game is well made, then you don't notice the few graphical problems. Doubly so if a game is well made and actually a good game that sucks you in.

"It really set in a few hours ago when I began arguing against the very things I was previously arguing a few days ago." That looks like you argue for the sake of arguing to me.
I should have been clearer but what I meant is that some of things @cap was saying about Nintendo are indeed true. I just don't feel the need to inject the fanboyish vitriol. There's no way the Wii U should be as expensive as it is given its specs and dearth of 3rd party support, and it's disappointing the recent Mario Kart bundle wasn't reduced in price. Yes, I said that. And, yes, someone in the Nintendo thread accused me of being a Sony fanboy and told me to go back "to enjoying Knack lolz". It's like there's no reasoning with some. So I questioned why the fuck I even try with these cretins. It doesn't mean I like to argue. I just need to let people think how they want. And I've been trying to do that.

Never seen screen tearing in gameplay? Wow, it sticks out to me like a sore thumb. Borderlands has some horrible screen tearing. Hell, one of your favorite games had some horrible screen tearing... BioShock Infinite.

It doesn't mean I like to argue.
Here you go, just for shits and giggles:

 Yesss, yesss. There it is.
That was the first line of your post when you baited cap. Proof is in the pudding.

I just need to let people think how they want. And I've been trying to do that.
Well you're not off to a fucking good start. Take a few breaths, chill and enjoy your Saturday with us. Maybe you need some of wren's pills to take the edge off.

I call bullshit... so much bullshit.

You instigate the shit half the time. FFS, you baited cap into that Nintendo argument but you wish the bickering would stop? You can't say you wish people would stop arguing when you can't let certain comments go and essentially start the argument yourself. I thought you had come to a revelation of sorts about yourself but I guess I was wrong.

Always fun to wake up to this shit.
I instigate shit? Really, @top? Lol. Of all the people here..I'm the one who you choose to call out as chief instigator? I don't even know what you're referring to when you say I baited him. I think the perception exists because I foolishly feel the need to respond to him, but I'm rarely the one making the inflammatory comments. In fact I've been particularly conscious of it since the discussions about trophies. So I don't know where you're coming from. It sucks because whenever people do try to offer up an opinion that goes against the majority they're usually ridiculed for it by the same people. And then they contribute less. But you somehow see me as the biggest problem. Interesting.

The problem is that while 30 fps might "look" good enough, it can be worlds apart in terms of how it feels. That's why these discussions are so difficult. But there is a very discernible difference especially with certain genres. Probably two of the best examples are Driver: San Francisco and Killzone: Shadowfall. Each of their SP & MP Modes run at different framerates and it's like night and day. That isn't to say they're unplayable when locked at 30, but it's a hell of a lot more responsive when not.

I don't obsess over it but I do wish more developers would stop giving into what simply yields the best screenshots. I know people don't want to hear it but that's one thing you have to give developers like Nintendo and Platinum credit for. Hell, I'd even attribute it to part of CoD's success. It isn't just some superficial thing.
You're being a bit unfair in your 'either or' though. It's not just image quality for 'the best screen shots'. This is all about performance, and how you spend the total power a console (or pc) provides. It's not just about 'screen shots'.

We're talking things like -

-number of enemies on the screen at a time (potentially huge blow to performance, depending on how good ai and character models are). remember, each enemy/opponent needs to not only be drawn/move, but can fire bullets, grenades, cause on screen destruction, etc. huge performance blow per enemy.

-environmental effects -- corpse permanence, bullet holes, reflections, weather, day/night, fire, water, explosions, damage models, windows, mirrors, etc.

-particle effects -- ooo, pretty. i really enjoy these, overall.

-quality of AI - not usually something maxed by performance (it's usually lack of coding) but it's conceivable.

-size of levels or open world

-texture quality (this is what I think most people think is being discussed, not all of the previous items)

...basically, it's not just about 'screen shots'. Performance dictates every single piece of a game, and going to 60 over 30 means giving up a lot of power that can be used elsewhere because given a game pushing its limits, every time you put in one column you need to take from another.

Is it worth giving up, say, 2 extra opponents and weather in a racing game to hit 60? That's the kinds of decisions devs make almost every single game (unless it's a game not pushing any limits/walls).

Obviously, gamers are divided on it, and while vocal, the 60fps team may be right that it's better than 30 in a vacuum (obviously, it is) but many gamers prefer they focus on other things because to them, those other things makes the better game (and I agree, generally).

If it was simply 30 or 60, and only required extra elbow grease... then yes, 60, obviously. But that's never the decision being made.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever actually finish the last of us. it feels soooo long. how long does it actually take assuming no walkthrough and minimal screwing around?
Eight hours? Depending on your difficulty, how stealthy you're being and how many collectibles you want, then it can be considerably longer.

I think I've played through four times, so I have to laugh a bit that you can't get through one playthrough. Are you at least past Pittsburgh? It's pretty slow going until then, and after that is when I began to love the game.

I dont know if I am going to make it through the weekend. Think I need another cortisone shot and steroids. I really want to wait until I can go to my doc during the week though because these fuck Ing wallk ins cost a fortune to go to. Thanks Obama! I can't walk straight but some dude with no job can get insurance for $26 a month. While I pay 4* that much

The actual TPS mechanics of the Uncharted's are pretty good, but the star of the show has always been the environments and action set pieces that you go play in.

Not really that interesting. Interesting is how you get upset that people are supposedly not having their ideals and opinions accepted, but yet will argue something into the ground if it doesn't line up with your viewpoint.

I'm done going around in circles with you.

Hey cap, I got the hole-in-one trophy in Hot Shots after around 6-7 hours of total gameplay... doesn't that make me your god or something?

You guys in this thread are so fuck ing old. Wrencrest has back pain. I recall someone else saying they have arthritis.
I'm only 36 but was lucky enough to have arthritis run in the family. It's not like I'm 70 barely gripping onto my controller. Though I do see that happening one day.

I know it's just more Nolan North, but I loved Nathan Drake's interactions with characters and voice acting conversations. Sully and Chloe or whatever their names were, always great to listen to them talk. I loved the Indiana Jones path the games took too, even when they jumped the shark and had
nazi zombies / ape monsters
The Last of Us was just uncharted survival horror.

I agree

That's pretty sweet. I remember getting it pretty quickly on Vita, but for some reason I couldn't do it on PS3. Who did you use, what course, hole, etc?
Hole 13 on Kagurayama with Yuna. It was actually just luck; I overshot it a little and it rolled back. My reaction was pretty much "Shit!...Yeah!"

If any of you enjoy golfing games at all and passed on this for $5 you missed out.

Puppeteer couldn't have come at a better for me.  I just platted Ni No Kuni with my son but he enjoyed the grind a little too much and wanted to keep catching all the familiars available in the game.  He really loved the Puppeteer demo, so when I told him we had the whole game all those familiars in the wild became nothing more than an afterthought.

Puppeteer looks like a winner; it's oozing with charm.

Beat InFamous 2, gotta go clean up a few trophies but then I'll be done with it.  Good game, I liked it more than the first.  Everything was just a little bit smoother than the original and a little less repetitive in certain areas.

Guess it comes down to preference. Sure developers have to make design compromises, but I'll almost always take a higher framerate over increased particle effects, resolution and such. I just think input and corresponding output are the most crucial elements of gameplay. It's probably the reason I really enjoy stuff like MGS, Burnout, Wipeout, CoD, and most platformers. It's also made all the HD collections a blast to play. I'm not going to skip a game because of a lower FPS, though. Driveclub's 30-cap is disappointing and I do think the devs made the wrong choice, but I still pre-ordered it. Day 1 as long as it's good.

Not really that interesting. Interesting is how you get upset that people are supposedly not having their ideals and opinions accepted, but yet will argue something into the ground if it doesn't line up with your viewpoint.
What does this have to do with being upset at ideals/opinions? What @cap said about NES games is just factually wrong. Talking out of his ass...again (no disrespect). There was no viewpoint to argue. And, again...you say nothing about that, but attempt to enlighten me on my contrarian ways. So, yes, that is interesting and quite unfair.

Wait, what? I said NES games don't run at 60fps/1080p, and that's wrong? Are you being serious? Please don't tell me you're going to start arguing that NES games actually do that.

Pretty much how the internet is. It sucks, but you shouldn't let it stop you from contributing. Just don't try to change someone else's opinion as it's like talking to a brick wall; you aren't going to get anywhere except angry.

Or be like me and put a cat as your avatar and then apparently you can say anything and people will still love you...

I go with choice a.  (I don't like cat avatars....)

Other than generic ideas about what kind of games I'm buying.. do you really think I let these people "hurt" my feelings?  They're just icons on a screen that I can dismiss at will.

Damn reading up about that Cali shooting last night.  Dude's whole Youtube profile is still up, bunch of other postings he's had on other sites as well.  What a whackjob.

Change your avatar. Non-Layton. Do it!

That's promising at least, the desolation caught my attention initially but I had a hard time staying interested in it. The last thing I remember is...

got past the big area with a bunch of humans that was way tougher than I expected - like a construction site or something, I remember walking through big pipes and later through some narrow hallways - and I remember sneaking past my first mutated thingamabob guy sneaking behind desks and stuff and junk? Maybe in a seemingly tall building? That's about it.

Now it's been several months since I played so I don't know if I'll have to start over to remember how to even play. I really want to give it a shot since everyone wants to make out with the game so bad, but man I am not motivated.

I don't know what you guys are talking about with regards to FPS issues. Every game I've thrown at my computer from 30 years in the future plays at 240fps+ at 4k. The real problem is that most of these games are completely broken as far as mental command response goes.

Sounds like I made it right at or after where you're at and have the same problem. I should lower the difficulty and play again lol.

I don't know what you're referring to, just that it came from cap and this is my response to you.... IT'S CAP!!! Half of the stuff he posts are ridiculous and you want to argue with him... whatever. Is it too much to ask for you to pick your battles? I guess so, because you want to put time and energy into arguing specs from 1985.

Goddammit breakfuss... you act like you just fucking got here. Do we need to introduce you to everybody?

So after finishing Tomb Raider I've narrowed down what I'm gonna play next: Infamous 1, Arkham Asylum, or Uncharted 1. Any suggestions?
