Is there anyone that still needs a copy of Dead Island Epidemic?  Steam apparently thought it would be nice to drop another of these turds in my inventory tonight.

Isn't the July 1st date for GFWL shutdown still not publicly confirmed?

I know it was gleaned from an Age of Empires Online post, but what if it's changed?
That's really the thing, for as big of a deal that the GFWL "shutdown" is Micro$oft hasn't been clear about it at all... I could accept that early on, but I was really expecting more clarification by now. It really is a serious Management/PR failure on their part to not communiate properly to their direct/indirect customers.

Hold on to it. After interest accrues, those things will be worth a small fortune[customspoiler=.]

Makes me even gladder that I won SFxT in a damn contest...
And it pisses me off because Capcom keeps the game available for purchase.

Even EA stops selling games that will stop working soonish (Bulletstorm). But Capcom? Nope, gotta make money any way they can.

Alright figured it out thanks for the help. All told got GTA IV complete for 4.13. Now the modding will commence. BTW Google translate doesn't work at all for some reason but Bing Translate did.

It's very strange. They announced the shutdown of the store this past August, right?

That makes it about a year after the store shutdown that the game would be shut off. Why be so generous with the timeframe if you're not going to announce it?

Are they waiting for the last of the big publishers to move their titles before they pull the plug? I just don't know.

I mean, if the shutdown isn't really happening, it would explain Rockstar's lack of comment on GTA IV in regards to GFWL, when they easily commented on it in regards to the GameSpy shutdown.

Why save it from the GameSpy shutdown if it's just gonna get yanked with the closure of GFWL?

Has Sega even commented on any of their G4WL games getting transitioned to Steamworks or elsewhere?
Sega's list of affected games is very short:

The Club
Stormrise
Universe at War: Earth Assault
Virtua Tennis 4
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2

Out of those 5, Warhammer's been saved already (smart move on Sega's part, seeing as they bought the franchise from THQ recently, would be stupid to not get their money's worth). The Club, Stormrise and Universe at War have all been removed from Steam, so yeah, they're fucked. Virtua Tennis 4 is the sole game in question.

You should make yourself familiar with this thread. -> http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3236567

And this article -> http://www.joystiq.com/2014/01/17/games-for-windows-live-is-dying-we-check-the-life-support-of-ga/

And this list -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Games_for_Windows_titles

There's not that many GFWL tbh, and most of them ended up on Steam.

And it pisses me off because Capcom keeps the game available for purchase.

Even EA stops selling games that will stop working soonish (Bulletstorm). But Capcom? Nope, gotta make money any way they can.
Yup. EA actually removed a bunch of titles from Origin in anticipation of the GameSpy shutdown (even though there's SP, and some of those games work on GameRanger...)

They're still up on Steam though, for whatever reason.

It's a shame but Capcom abandoned support for SF x T a long time ago because it wasn't the cash cow they wanted like SSFIV was (which is why they keep going back to it).

If only you could buy Watch Dogs PC retail box from them; activate it on UPlay to bind it to your UPlay account; then trade the retail box back to them for $40. :p
Except there's like 3 PC gamers left in the United States that still buy boxed retail new releases Beatrice.

Gamestop aren't braintrusts but they know enough to know the box is just a carrier for the key and that has the real value so once a box is open the key was probably used.

Really if you're asking for ridiculous things that will never happen you could dream a little bigger like raining 100 bills from heaven or something.

Very good news. The game was just on sale everywhere, if they let people know about this earlier they could have sold more.
Yeah, but if you've followed the news regarding the game at all, you'd already know it was confirmed to be being moved to Steamworks way back.

The sales on SSFIV: AE are clearly to sucker people in so they end up having to buy the Ultra upgrade and all the costume DLC at full price, which ends up being more than the cost of base Ultra.

As tempting as it's been to get it, I've held off because I know I want Ultra. I'll probably jump on it as soon as Ultra is 50% off (only a matter of time).

You didn't grab a free SSFIVAE? #fakepirate

As a console peasant, and presumably with console peasant homies, I'm genuinely curious why you want SSFIV* on PC.

I'm already stuck with 1 disc copy of SSFIV ($8 - $9) and 2 disc copies of SSFIV AE (one was $20, one came with my SF 25th Anniv Ed. which was $60). And I'll be getting a free digital copy of SSFIV: AE as part of Games for Gold on 360 next month. So I'm sure as hell not buying the disc release/digital version of Ultra, which means I have to wait for the upgrade to Ultra DLC to go on sale, which based on the amount of sales on the Arcade upgrade DLC, will be never.

So I might as well grab the PC version of Ultra on sale since I don't own it on PC in any format.

50% off sale on Ultra is $15 which is the same price as the upgrade DLC for console.

I don't even get the costumes as a bonus for the full price console release because all the costume DLC came with my SF 25th Anniversary Edition.

if only he would stop posting them all the time... ;)
Sadly that has about as much chance of happening as Gamestop giving you $40 for an open PC box.

I was thinking that too. His answer just kind of made me go ummmm.

I guess I am not up on all the differences between the super mega ultra maxx you want this one no this one versions of Street Fighter.

Fighting games are so much better on PC. No console input lag (PS3), better netcode, use any controller you like, and better graphics than the arcade versions instead of some blurry sub-720 poop. Nearly every arcade machine now is just a Windows box, so I don't know why there aren't more PC ports. In an ideal world every fighting game would be on PC and no one would die hungry.

Yeah... I was thinking my "for price" explanation seemed unlikely... since I believe online MP is not cross platform, so if you wanted to play non-locally with your friends... (which is a solid reason for getting it on 360/PS3)

So once upon a time, SFIV came out. Then SSFIV came out several months later with no option to upgrade between the two. Then later SSFIV: AE came out, with an available $15 DLC to upgrade to the new version from SSFIV, or you could just buy the whole thing for $30 if you didn't own SSFIV.

Only SSFIV: AE got ported to PC.

Now Ultra is coming out. If you have SSFIV: AE, it'll cost $15 to upgrade OR you can just buy the new version for $30. The $30 version also comes with all previous DLCs that are left out of the upgrade.

The upgrade will probably never see a sale on console, ever. So it costs me the same price to upgrade my console version, as it does to buy Ultra on PC for 50% off.

Make sense?

Whatever. I've bought Street Fighter exactly 0 times, and I haven't had to spend a red cent on it.

Nor a blue cent. Nor even a yellow cent.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go play Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate and see if I can't get past where I was in Monster Hunter Tri.

Speaking of Xbox 360 Games for Gold, should I be paying attention to that? I have gold that I use with my Xbox One, but I know it applies to 360 too, so should I be firing up the old 360 for free games? I have just about no idea about Games for Gold.

You gotta admit, the 25th Anniv. Edition is pretty sweet. Comes with a bunch of physical goodies like a BluRay with the movies and the anime, soundtracks, a light up Ryu statue, a cheap karate belt, all the DLC that was out at the time, DL codes for Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Online, SSFIV: AE and SFxT.

It also comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity for whatever reason. And the felt box everything comes in is kinda nice.

YES. I have no idea why you don't go to the Xbox thread.

You've missed out on two free games a month for about a year now.

Well HTPCs never really took off mainstream and local multiplayer isn't really popular for the PC. It's kind of odd to be in your office or bedroom or on some laptop and bust out two controllers with friend. I think anyway.

I know there's net play and that's definitely a thing but I think somehow those games still get perceived as local multiplayer games which probably goes back to the arcade days.

<stuff about 20 different cashgrabs of the same game on consoles>

Because I just about never touch my 360, because I have a $2000+ gaming laptop with 1000-1500 games?

I guess I'll do it just because, it's just a pain to get my 360 online since a family member lost my wireless adapter. I can use my laptop as one, but it's just annoying to.

Most of the games that have been on offer are quite old. Right now you could pick up Saints Row III (base game only); next month, they'll have SSFIVAE, Charlie Murder (which I liked the demo of), and Dark Souls (base game only).

So it's not exactly killer app city. I've enjoyed it so far because I don't pay for Gold (if I see something I like, I'll use free months I've accrued somehow or other), only got my 360 two and a half years ago, and for the most part they haven't been games that I would actually buy, anyway; but it's a fairly weak offering for people who've actually been paying for Gold, especially if they've been buying games for their 360s for years.

But hey, free stuff or whatever, so I'm not complaining.

And do you keep the games or is it PSN style where you can only play them as long as you're paying for the service?

No.
I wish there was a PC game series I could compare it to. Can't think of one right now. But yes, it's a series of cash grabs which is why I'm not buying it again for console.

You can buy the free games off the website, btw. No 360 required.

You keep the games. That's why not getting them is silly.

For the 360 offerings, you keep it, though I've heard that for the Xbone they're gonna make it work like PS+, which, considering the first month's offerings (which will be next month), seems pretty weaksauce.

(Those offerings are Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault, btw.)

Tbh, considering the PS4 is still at only one free game a month, I'd say the offerings between the Xbone and PS4 in terms of "free games" is comparable.

Free Halo: Spartan Assault sounds good to me.
