also, we're all kind of jumping the gun here a little bit. we have no idea what else they have up their sleeves, and anything could happen at e3.

can't wait until black friday, cause i'm buying 20 years of plus. maybe more, i'd hate to forget to re-up one year when i'm old.

Yeah, those terrible clutches where I get tons more games than I can ever play for a very reasonable yearly fee.

You are missing two key points

1)They aren't interested in just keeping current members. They need to get new members, too. Dropping quality hurts that.

2) Plenty of ps+ members don't care about ps4 online. Even if we allow that every single person interested in ps4 multiplayer won't drop ps+ if the quality drops, we still must allow that there are some subset of subscribers that only care about the free games/discounts. And that number would drop. Therefore, Sony still has reason to keep up quality.

You're also forgetting that ps+ is already profitable. They don't need to lessen quality. They just need to keep getting publishers to offer games every month, which doesn't seem to be a problem as there will always be some sequel to be promoted or another one out of it's early sales period.

 
I am all for competition in the marketplace.  The next move will be to add AAA titles to the PS4's library.  Microsoft will counter at some point, and then Sony will ramp it up again.  

My HOPE is that PS Now is the trump card that Sony will unleash when it needs too.  They need to figure out some pricing model to benefit the PS+ owners, AND to cause MS to counter with something....

Then why the removal of evergreen titles? It indicates a lack of interest in attracting new members.

They don't need to lessen quality, but they'd probably get more money out of it overall if they did. And that's what pretty much any company is all about, even Sony.

The fact that you guys are going back and having to physically count the games to see how things add up just goes to show that you're splitting hairs. There's not that much of a difference either way.

 
how hard is it for people not to get from the announcement that we aren't getting yearly PS Plus games anymore and just the 2x2x2 format?  Every where people are like well at least we will find out the yearly titles soon... NONE

Because they must have determined the evergreen titles weren't helping customer acquisition that much?

Who knows. Perhaps they did customer surveys. Maybe they decided a fixed 2x2x2 structure had more appeal to more people. Maybe they determined being able to say 'guaranteed 6 games a month' was better than trying to explain the evergreen/monthly split. Maybe current users didn't like the evergreen structure, or maybe we expected too much every year from evergreen replacement. Maybe they used a magic 8 ball.

At the end of the day, the changes are fairly minimal in terms of how they affect most people.

In a few months, people new to the eco-system won't even realize evergreens are gone -- they'll be buying into the 2x2x2 system. The only people really aware of the evergreens right now are people that already are bought in... or people that didn't buy despite the evergreens. And even those that knew about it but didn't buy in have a chance to grab this years. And if they don't? What good was evergreen doing in the first place?

I had a Live Subscription for 3 or 4 years. I needed it to play games online with my XBox360 (or watch Netflix which I never did). Most of the time I had a PS3 I did NOT have PS+. I did not need it to play games online or watch Neflix. In July last year I finally decided to try PS+. I got a free month doing the stupid virtual E3 tour on PS Home. BB had a year of PS+ on sale for $40 around that time. Between what I read here and elsewhere decided it was worth $40 a year to rent/play a bunch of games. Many of which I will never play but many I wanted to play and did.

I do agree that it is a slightly less attractive offer now that those Evergreen games are gone (or will be) to new PS+ subs. But programs change. Those who sign up for PS+ now miss out on games that were available a few months ago.

The GWG I got with Live with a couple of exceptions were junk. Nothing I wanted to play.

And why do people like the Gamecube controller so much?  That thing was really not all that special, but people praise it all the time.  The button placement was so fucking weird.

Please, I work until 530 every day. But my commute is pretty easy since it just involves walking downstairs. And on my lunch break today, I mowed the lawn. So I've been pretty god damn productive while you jerks are in here arguing about nothing.
 
BobbyTastic - Your points are valid.  But I don't think PS+ was a direct competitor to Xbox Live, and I do not believe that it is trending that way.  (ONLY Playing online games.)  (I believe that Xbox Live is now trying to copy PS+.  Not the other way around.)  Sony's acquisitions to take over the digital market led to PS+ being the weapon that it is.  And that in turn is probably the #1 reason that the PS4 and Vita have sold the way that they have.  Every single week we get a drop of games to play. Sure, they are not AAA, but they are constantly dropping.  Which makes us look and pay attention.  

With one service, they have effectively flipped the script on MS.  MS has to play catch up, read and react to what Sony is doing.  But they don't truly have the chops to stay in this fight digitally.  

PS Now is another superb idea...  We will never PLAY all of the games.  But it is like going to a buffet - we love LOOKING at what we can play.   :)  

I wonder how many of us picked up a Vita soley because we saw games on the PS+...  I know I did.   :)  It gives an easy entry.

It looked funky as hell but it felt right in my hands hands. Excellent ergonomics. Probably the most comfortable controller I've ever used. The 360/X1 are my favorite controllers now.

 
GameCube controller sucked. Nintendo has never had a good controller. That's not me trolling, that's just fact. The 360 controller is probably my favorite that I've used so far, but I hate the giant battery pack on the back.

The required sub isn't a conspiracy, it's a business/marketing tactic. One they've used very well.

Maybe not, but it looks obvious to me that the move is meant to compete with MS, whether the Xbone is getting 2 titles or not. Either way, I'm not too concerned, I know I'm getting a PS4 before an Xbone unless their E3 can really wow me.

I'm only complaining about the removal of the evergreen titles as it's a move downward to match the quality of XBL Gold + GwG. I really can't see much of the positive in this aside from the 9 "extra" titles a year.

I know it doesn't affect the majority of you, but not everyone is subbed to PS+ forever, and it affects those of us who aren't.

News flash: no one gives a shit about complaints from non-Plus subscribers.

This change only negatively affects people who haven't signed up yet and who aren't going to in the next month. Why does that matter? Why should they be entitled to more games when they're not already signed up? It's a ridiculous stance to take.

Look, the NES controller may have crated many millions of blisters, but that was the 80s fault not Nintendo. The SNES controller was pretty sweet for its time.

 
Also, I just finished my first watching of Beyond. Good story, I liked it. My only complaint is that these characters never seem to have any sense of urgency. Crazy shit is happening all around you, and they're all just walking as if they're sightseeing their way through a park.

Once I get the plat in the next couple days, I will be selling the game. $12, shipped, minimal pubes.

No Far Cry 3 this month for PS+. :(

Still a great month overall. The PS4 titles are weak imo but everything else is awesome. I'm excited to try Mutant Mudds after hearing so many good things.

Dammit. 7 days left on my PS+ sub. I'm sitting on 3 yearly subs, waiting for a free 3-month promo. Looks like I may have to sacrifice one of them before that happens. Shame. :-({|=  I'll wait a bit...maybe Tuesday it'll happen?  :pray:

That wasn't an angry response. The point was that Tyler just quoted number s to prove that we're going to get more games in the next year than we had for the previous, which is false just by double checking the numbers. Adding qualifiers just adds a subjective spin that wasn't a part of the original point that spawned a lot of discussion based on false numbers. It doesn't add anything to the discussion that was going on besides trying to make my point less valid because you don't like a couple of the games that were released. If you want to discuss the actual type/quality of the released games, that's an entirely different discussion that we can have.
 
Well I got them at $30 apiece. Not much to complain about there...it's just I'd rather get 45 months ($2/month) versus 36 months ($2.50/month) out of my purchases. :)

I only own a PS3 for now and I am more than happy to get PS4 and Vita games for free every month. For me Plus is the perfect excuse to buy a Vita this year in November.
Why any PS3 only owner would get frustrated?
