The first year's number, 71 I think, is also terribly inflated by the start of the PS3 and Vita IGC (17 games) which is not something that should be expected every year.

This literally isn't even the same girl:

This literally isn't even the same girl:
I don't think it's supposed to be. I think that was meant as an example of how the editing wasn't consistent (one girl had sleeves added, the other girl has bare arms). That newscast really should have done a better job of distinguishing that difference (the language is unclear) but I'm sure they would rather have that picture you posted run wild on the internet without context rather than do a good job of reporting the facts.

But just because your yearbook staff isn't good at their jobs doesn't mean they were targeting anyone.

And thats why FL is an awesome state to live in. If thats a "good" Utah news story, I would hate to see the bad ones. At least we have exciting shit going down here.
I meant it was good as in "these are the type of things people worry about" in Utah. High school girls showing off their shoulders. Blasphemy!

There was another story a couple months back where a woman bought $500 worth of t-shirts from Pacsun that were on display because she considered them to have "indecent" graphics and wanted to make sure others weren't subjected to viewing them. She planned to return them on the 59th day of the 60 day return period.

EDIT: lol this is her

Shadow Warrior coming to ps4 and x1 soon. 900p 60 fps on x1, 1080p 60 fps on PS4!
Just had to point that out didn't you.

Why are people so obsessed with 1080p right now? Up until this gen no one care, lol. If you are that dead set on getting amazing graphics get a PC. This coming from a very anti-PC gaming person.

You don't find it significant the one console seems to be quite a bit more powerful than the other?

It's not so much the power but that developers are having an easier time working on optimization with the PS4 at the moment, much like how in the previous generation they had an easier time with the 360 than the PS3. With some experience under their belts, time to properly optimize, and the new dev kit from Microsoft that was discussed a few months back, we should be experiencing less of these differences and hopefully the end of what tends to devolve into a stupid, fanboy debate rather than a discussion about games.

Not an NBA fan but almost bought the game for PS4 because of how good it looked. Very happy I'll be getting it free, even for PS3.

PS. fuck Spelunky!
NBA 2K14 on the PS3 has a lot more/better content in it than the rushed PS4 title. They're both still microtransaction-infested games, but the PS3 version at least has more there to offset it not being as pretty.

the big mystery is how many ps+ subs are active and how many people claim the free games - if a release like terraria comes out and 100k people buy it at release for $15 then 1m ps+ subs claim it a month later and the publisher gets something 0.05 for each claim for one month, would it really be that bad of a deal for the dev/publisher vs letting it sit there waiting for more people to buy? I genuinely don't know. but this must make sense to somebody because it's still going.
They generally don't get paid per download, as I'd only expect the new releases to potentially have that sort of deal with Sony.

Then why the removal of evergreen titles? It indicates a lack of interest in attracting new members.

They don't need to lessen quality, but they'd probably get more money out of it overall if they did. And that's what pretty much any company is all about, even Sony.
Why can't it be that they don't feel that they have to have three marquee PS3 titles on there for an entire year so that they have some consistent titles for use in PS+ marketing? The word finally getting out about how good the service is over the past year or two and the newer requirement for PS4 means that they have less of a need to have those pillar titles, which gives them the freedom to have a more fluid lineup each month.

The lack of a few evergreen titles doesn't mean less titles or anything like that. Just a smaller pool for new people to bathe in up front when they join, so if you're going to get a PS console in the near future, you might want to sub now with a trial or one month sub to grab everything that's there right now if it matters that much to you. The only times I've ever seen people remark in here about all of the games available at once are newbies that have a wealth of titles to grab when they join, so it's less of an issue past that first month or two.

No reason for them to diminish quality? You are assuming that the price of membership for a year covers the cost that Sony pays out for the games a member claims. I find it hard to believe that Sony currently pays out less than an average of $1 a game. And memberships wouldn't diminish that much now that they have a PS+ as a requirement for online play.

MS charged members just to play online for years until recently. I think that if Sony knew they could gradually scale things back and eventually get to this point without pissing everyone off they would jump at the chance.

Again, not taking sides because I honestly don't have an opinion that things will go one way or the other. I'm just saying that it's not out of the question to think they things could play out this way. But this is something that, if it even happens, is years away from taking place (probably not until close to the end of the PS4s lifecycle). There's no reason for anybody to get so pissed over it.
I get the impression that Sony doesn't pay nearly as much as you think they do on each title, plus I don't believe they pay per download or anything like that for the older titles. I've linked this great article at Gamasutra a few times before where even indie developers describe the money they're paid to put their games on PS+ as just a "nice boost," so I doubt that they break the bank to get these titles since developers get arguably more in return with the new players, feedback, PR, and all that to help spread the word about their games and their studio. Somebody here was talking about Sony not having to pay for evergreen titles anymore, but Sony published all of them but one, so they don't have to pay nearly as much for their own games, if at all, than third-party publishers.

You're also ignoring the fact that Sony gets a cut from the big PS+ sales to also help fund future investments in PS+ content and features. There's not just one source of income to keep PS+ going.

Dammit. 7 days left on my PS+ sub. I'm sitting on 3 yearly subs, waiting for a free 3-month promo. Looks like I may have to sacrifice one of them before that happens. Shame. :-({|= I'll wait a bit...maybe Tuesday it'll happen?
In all seriousness, is there any legitimate reason to think Sony will run that promo again?

Good thing for MS then that Sony put out that press release that they were never going to work on optimizing their own dev kits ever again.

PS - the debate never ended last gen, even over often smaller differences.

GameCube controller sucked. Nintendo has never had a good controller. That's not me trolling, that's just fact. The 360 controller is probably my favorite that I've used so far, but I hate the giant battery pack on the back.
The SNES controller was a big improvement over the NES controller. The worst controller Nintendo came out with was the N64. I thought it was total garbage.

So if I remember not digging Odin's Sphere, and I'm not digging Muramasa, it it safe to assume I can scratch Dragon's Crown off my wishlist?

Also, for those of you that picked up Monster Monpiece... worth the $30?

Still hoping someone who dove into Mind Zero might share their opinions on the game, as unlikely as it may be that anyone around these parts actually picked it up.

Ballmer to buy the Clippers for $2 billion?

Pfft....could have bought Oculus.

So many tough decisions to make when you have more money than god.

Have you tried games both on PS3 and PS4? Is the selection the same? If so, how do they play comparatively with the same game? I haven't checked on my PS3 PSNow in a week or so, but 2d games were still unplayable for me. Using wifi, but the connection test came back fine, so... :(
Honestly I haven't tried it and likely won't, lol. Had my fill on PS3 and it was getting in the way of all my trophy hunting. Priorities. Anyone who needs a PS4 code is welcome to it.

Nah. I'm not a "mercenary". :bouncy:
I know this is yet another titillating thread meme but, sheesh. Some of you not make it through 7th grade? Do you understand how rhetorical devices work? I'm a "mercenary" so long as fanboys exist. I'm retired...for now.

Anyway, as a longtime subscriber, I'm completely satisfied and unaffected by the changes but definitely understand your position. Funny how that works. ;) I'm relieved to see June's PS+, btw. I own none of these games (sold Sly 4). Trine 2 is 3D-enabled so that's cool for the 5 of us who care. People claim it's a treat.

I didn't like muramasa, never played odin's sphere, but sunk 60+ hours in to dragon's crown. but I liked RE6, so fuck my opinion, right?

Wren, why do you have your trophies in your sig, but have them set to private so they all show up at 0%?  Must be a Florida thing.

I'm interested to see if this is actually true. Time will tell.

The fanboy arguments about it are stupid, but the info should still be shared. When I had both consoles I would usually by the version that ran and played better, even if it was only by a little bit. I mean, Lens of Truth and Digital Foundry both exist, so people must be interested in this sort of stuff.

but I liked RE6, so fuck my opinion, right?
There's a reason I demoted you beneath TopsideKracker.

I love Rayman Origins and Legends...just checking some videos, the older ones seem....weird.

Are any of them worth it if they won't have a nostalgia effect on me, since I've never payed them before?

That article was pretty good; thanks for sharing. The "nice boost" comment could have been taken either way though honestly, but after reading the article it's obvious that there are a lot of factors other than money going into the agreements. The exposure that these games/devs get from going PS+ is definitely a big one.

And I was the one (or one of them at least) that mentioned Sony not having to pay for evergreens anymore, but I didn't just mean evergreens but a lot of the titles that stick around for long periods of time. But you bring up a good point that a lot of the evergreens were Sony titles so they aren't really incurring a cost there, but are instead forsaking potential sales. One could argue that Sony could potentially keep the evergreen system in place at little cost but this is a smart move by Sony as it curbs the idea that all Sony titles will eventually someday go to PS+. I can think of several people (myself included) that passed on certain Sony games because there was hope that we'd get them for free one day. Even if Sony continues to pump their games into the program, not having major titles sitting around in a "free bin" I think would help.

Hahah, I love when people bring this up. The main difference is that last gen, the PS3 was more powerful than the 360 whereas in this generation, the PS4 is more powerful than the XB1. The differences may actually get more significant as time goes on.
