Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

Could you (or another DotP 2014 familiar CAG) explain the whole Sealed Play thing?
I have not tried the digital version but in the physical MTG sealed deck game, you are provided with either a starter deck or some boosters packs. You have to build your deck from only that limited pool of cards so it is a test of your deck building skills.

The difference between sealed deck and booster draft is that in booster draft, you and the other players will be building the deck from the same pool of cards. Each person will take turn to pick a card from the booster packs. You don't have to use all the cards that you picked, just build a deck with a minimum of 40 cards like the sealed deck. As for the remaining cards, you can use them as your sideboard.

All this talk about Magic: the Gathering and then the weekend sale on M:tG is making me consider picking up the game.  Anyone who has played M:tG is the DLC in GOLD GAME, or GOLD COMPLETE worth the extra money?  Or should I just consider picking up the base game for 2.49?

We're still kids, according to the mature 30-year-olds on this thread.

Last call for entries for the BGCQ World Cup Soccerball Sweepstake.

2 slots left, signups are in the BGCQ Steam forum.

I'll be making the draw tonight at around 11.30pm GMT (so teatime for you guys) in chat. I'll do a televised draw if I can work out how to do it with an iPad (I don't have a webcam).

:whee:

Edit: update, one spot left!

I'll ask again (maybe Idiot can answer this) about TSW...

Should I buy the issues in order? I just received 1200 bonus points. A lot of people state issue #7 is the best, but I read they should be played in order and after I ended all the game content. I know I'm too far from it (still at kingsmouth), but I don't think I want any boost or cosmetic stuff from the store...
This close to the Summer Sale, assuming you don't have any issues past #5 (issue 9 was just released), you're much better off waiting for the Massive Edition to go on sale on Steam. Especially if those bonus points were not from a subscription but from something like the completing 30 missions reward. If you do have a subscription, and are getting points every month, you're better off catching the Massive Edition on sale, since every issue equates to $10 in real world cash (1,200 points) and using your first set of points to spend on things like build/inventory/bank slot boost, or depending on how much time you play AP boost or the mystery boxes. All those items effect actual game play rather than being cosmetic.

Don't waste your time on any weapons/armor in the store, they will be superseded quickly by what you find in drops, especially in dungeons. There are advantages to having the issues, even if you don't play them just yet. I was still just in Kingsmouth when I started joining Elite Dungeon Runs, and by having all the DLC issues, you'll be able to jump into any community events at any time without being held back by not having that particular content (such as the Scenarios). I will also add that the single most important "purchase" from the store I got was by using veteran points to purchase the Re constructor, that allowed for repairing weapons/armor while still in the field. The Massive Edition is an extremely good deal when on sale, and if you aren't interested in cosmetic stuff, there's a very short list to spend points on outside of the issues themselves.....however, I have found myself collecting pets. Don't start down that dark path, just, don't do it.

OK, so this will likely change pretty fast.

UPDATE: 7 FREE Games (once greenlit) - Added Sky Battles

http://whosgamingnow.com/discussion/52/7-free-games-once-greenlit/p1

Also, exclusive items for Priston Tale and Mission Against Terror

http://whosgamingnow.com/discussion/152/get-up-to-50-35-worth-of-exclusive-items-for-priston-tale-m-a-t-once-greenlit/p1
Signed up for the Mission Against Terror one, looks cool. Priston doesn't look like my type of game, but bonus points for the giant tits.

Skype for Ipad? And please wear pants.

Eh, of the issues I have, and have played through, there's no point to playing them in order. Is there a "better" order of them to play through? Maybe. Does it matter, and are they a connected storyline? Nah.

Just look around, see which issue has the stuff you think is the coolest (depending on what people think, what areas the missions take place in, what rewards the missions give, etc), and grab that one. A few of the issues add new auxiliary weapons, like the flamethrower and whip, so if you're interested in one of those, there you go.
Nice, thanks! I'll look better at what each issue includes

Well, just bought Magic 2014 Special Edition (because I wanted the soundtrack) and then bought the deck packs/expansion pack separate. Come to find out, Magic keeps all of it's SFX and music in the game folder in mp3 format already, so there really is no need for the special edition at all. You might be thinking "But they probably give you higher quality tracks right?" No. The game audio folder has 37 tracks that are mixed between 320 and 128 kbps. The Official Soundtrack folder still has some tracks in 128 kbps, and is only 32 tracks. For fuck sake.

My main problem is gametime. I bought the game last December and I'm still at Kingsmouth :)

The last sale on the Massive Edition was a glitch, so I'm not counting on it, but I'm not in a hurry... I can only play about an hour per day (if I'm lucky) :(

Thanks for the advise. I really enjoy this game, love everything about it... OK, maybe the combat not "that" much, but everything else is amazing, too bad I can't play it as much as I want to

I have the same problem. Also, have you tried toggling between combat modes? One of them annoys me, but the FPS view is great for me.

You will want to go back and read the last several pages of this thread.

Since DotP 2014 doesn't allow for general deck building, you're just making a permanent random deck you may never want to use again.
Okay, I think I get it now. Purchased vanilla Gold - a virtual card game bought with money from selling virtual cards. I think this makes me some kind of super-CAG, or maybe just a super nerd. Thanks to you and all the others who helped clarify the differences.

Each Duels of the Planeswalkers is entirely independent from the others, so the only thing you'd "Lose" with a new version coming out is presumably the majority of people who play in online matchmaker games would move to the new one. There's also no direct deck overlap between the games. There are some similar decks but no 1:1 duplicates. No need to be concerned about the older ones becoming obsolete unless you do a lot of multiplayer with strangers.

That said, they inexplicably no longer sell the first of the modern Duels of the Planeswalkers (the one from 2010. The real first DotP was '98) for whatever reason. Which is kind of a shame because out of all of them that one had the most iconic decks. Blue asshole control/discard, red burn, big green creatures, etc. The decks in the other games definitely aren't bad, it's just that none of them were as much the standard staple for each color.

Been talking an awful lot about cards today. On that topic I guess I'll say I played a little Dead Man's Draw. Not the same kind of card game as MTG or Hearthstone but seems enjoyable. Looks worth the $2.50.

Also this. Spectromancer's pretty good stuff. You don't do deckbuilding in it either (Not for reals deckbuilding at least) but it's a damn fine card game. Complexity's roughly above Hearthstone and under Magic. I'd definitely give a thumbs up to that one too.
DotP 2011 was my favorite too. 2012 somehow just wasn't as fun, and as a result I never even bothered to pick up 2013. Maybe it never hit my pricepoint. Looking forward to deck building in 2015, but by the time it reaches this price 2016 will be on its way, so I figured I might as well get this now. Incidentally, DotP '98 is one of my all-time favs, even though it still runs like shit to this day. The RPG element was tons of fun and added so much. Good old Sid Meier.

I also played Spectromancer when it first came out. It was mildly entertaining, but felt a bit simplistic and generic compared to Magic. I assume the expansions added some more interest, but I don't have much desire to bump in up in my backlog when so many other games are more deserving. Of course, that still didn't stop me from purchasing it from Amazon when it was on sale.

i just tried 2014... and it seem fun.. I am a bit disapointed that none of the attack has the monster materialize, appear as hologram and attack each other (like in Yu Gi Oh). Is there any decent card game out there do this?

also, does Steam allow me to specifically "disable" a certain DLC if I buy the Gold complete? It seem no Russian seller is selling just the Gold

If this has already been posted then mea culpa, but Newegg has the Borderlands headhunter pack DLCs for 99 cents. The latest one #5 is included.

*Edit: I was able to get another 20% off of them with a code for digital games I got in an email from Newegg on June 2nd titled "Here’s Your Exclusive Component Coupons – Don’t Let Them Go to Waste!" so if you subscribe to emails from Newegg you can try checking for that. It does say that the codes are specifically tied to the account with the email address they are sending it to and non-transferable so I guess everyone gets their own code. *shrug*

If anyone is interested in donating any spare bundle keys, I am planning on doing more contests like this one in the near future.
I have a bunch, but would really prefer to do it somewhere where it won't spam up the thread. I don't mean to shit in the cornflakes but sometimes I'm short on time and it would be nice to not have to skim through pages and pages of 'I'll take this!' 'I'll take that!' 'Those for me!' etc. :headache:

Time to start cranking through those backlogs!
One of the reasons I never get to my backlog is chatting online. I blame you guys. :p

Consensus seems to be straight Gold. Gold gets you the extra pre-built DLC decks but leaves the campaign progression intact. Gold Complete opens up a lot more ("cheats") which eliminates the rewards for progression since you already have them all unlocked and much of the stuff Complete offers is cosmetic ("foil" cards). Also, Complete includes the Sealed Deck slots which are pointless unless you're going to buy a bunch of virtual boosters with real life money. You could manage the 45 DLC in Complete via the Steam interface but why bother paying for them all just to turn them off?

so should i call Child Services now or does your kid tell his/her classmates he/she fell down the stairs?
You assume he loses. Kid has hands like hooves

Me thinks you didn't click my link . . . cause the responses had substance.

No, I did. And while it's better that 'gimmee!' 'gimmee too! 'gimmee three!' it still makes the thread fill up really fast and be a bit of a PITA to keep up with. *shrug*

I don't know, I guess I am just being a curmudgeon but I feel like giveaways are best done elsewhere or by PM, especially when there's a long list of games to give away. :oldman:

You talking about this?

microprosemagic1.jpg

That was my favorite before Magic Online, the game may be old but I like that it allows you to build your own deck instead of preconstructed deck.

There are also a lot of MTG games for those that want to try out the card game for free.

  1. Netdraft
  2. Apprentice
  3. Magic Set Editor
  4. MTG Forge
  5. Wagic
  6. Magic Table
  7. Magic Assistant
  8. Cockatrice

That would be a bunch of +1s to my Steamcount, but ya, that's a bunch of generic-lookin crap. I'll still probably regret it later.

Speaking of generic crap, Metal Planet is now on Steam, and if you bought the LazyGuys Blurred Shapes bundle the emails with its Steam key hab gone out, and if you got the Indie Meadow Holiday Bundle, the Steam key is now showing on your key page.

Hardcore pigeon dating sim fans everywhere are cooing with delight as developer (Amateur Surgeon, Foul Play) and avian-friendly publisher Devolver Digital are joining forces to remake Hato Moa’s standout visual novel Hatoful Boyfriend for PC and Mac this summer.

Hatoful Boyfriend will launch later this summer on PC and Mac via Steam, GOG, Humble, and other digital storefronts.

“Our research shows that consumer fatigue for space marines and dragons is at an all-time high – gamers are ready for something new and fresh,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. “Semi-realistic pigeon dating simulations are the next great frontier in video games.”
