I hate instant replay.  I don't mind goal line cameras that's fine, but that's it.  How about competent officiating?

And yeah, that Croatian goalie looked like he just fell down rather than tried to stop the goal.

1. Mass Effect. Those games are so good, especially the second. And even though ME3 could be said to be disappointing because of the ending fiasco, we still got a surprisingly fun multiplayer and the excellent Citadel DLC that atoned for any wrongdoing ever.

2. Uncharted. Great games, gorgeous, great characters. I thought the SP in the third was the weakest, but the co-op was a blast. You UC3 haters should really give it a shot.

3. Bioshock. The first is a classic. I loved the third as well, and all the DLC for it was pretty great, even the wave-based combat DLC that I normally am not a huge fan of. The second game was pretty meh with horrible multiplayer (although some love it), but was redeemed by the excellent Minerva's Den DLC - in the running for best DLC ever.

All three of those games are pretty close, but I have to give the edge to Mass Effect. I'm ashamed to say that I've never played Gears, even though I have the first two in my backlog.

As a goalkeeper myself, he was caught napping and the toe poke got him. Unacceptable at any level, especially the world cup... Croatia was actually looking good, and that goal takes care of the bad penalty

Uncharted 1 is 50 gallons of a tasty soup. Sure, it is quite flavorful...for awhile, but eventually you get sick of drinking the same damn soup over and over. Uncharted 2 is a pantry full of many different varieties of tasty soups.

(I know The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite come to mind for a lot of people around here, but I thought both of those were pretty great to play through).

And finally, there are the games with bad stories and bad gameplay that you guys talk a lot about (final fantasy!!!!)

Spec Ops the Line is easy on normal but becomes quite intense and engaging on higher difficulties.

In regards to the story and characters it all comes down to if it is an addition, a subtraction, or a non-factor. Games with good gameplay and cheesy/thread-bare stories are ok because they don't detract from the experience. it's just a short excuse to get the player to the next area and then you are back into playing. Games which TRY to do a detailed/engaging story and fail miserably through annoying plot points/dialogue/characters detract from the overall experience as they spend several minutes trying to develop their "characters" through cutscenes.

Then there are those players who like to make choices in games which mirror their own moral beliefs and are put off by playing a character that is so far out of synch with their own.

That'll be funny if someone buys a Destiny Alpha code since they tweeted that anyone that signed up will get a code. I got mine hours ago. I guess I'll be playing this and Hardline this weekend because fuck playing games I actually paid for.

EDIT: Well shit...I would have taken $10 over playing it for 3 days.

This Tyler hates Spelunky talk reminded me that several days back there was a Daily Challenge that Tyler would have loved. In 2-4 you spawned right in front of a boomerang guy who instantly hit me with it and knocked me into a Tiki trap. It was hilarious because I get to the high score table and see a slew of 2-4's and imagined all the rantin that must have happened. Amazingly some got past it and one person, at least, made it to 5-4, probably beat it. I'm sure others did too. That was still pretty early.

Some good deals this week.  I'd been wishing I would have purchased Walking Dead season 2 last time it was on sale, glad to see that back.

And say what you will about the Move (or motion games in general), but Sports Champions 2 is definitely worth the $2.50.  Some nice multiplayer fun.

Where did everyone get Hardline codes from? Got the Destiny one but don't recall ever seeing anything about Hardline.

Considering how much you guys like how the NBA is fixed I would think you would be more into soccer. Look at how the fix is on for Brazil.

You probably got it from bitching on the thread, but the blimp is easy. Use a laser, or just knock it down a peg before you die/nuke.

To anyone reading, Tyler is wrong about this game. It's arcade heaven -- sure, nobody is guaranteed to like anything/everything, but if you dig arcade games you'll likely dig this. Controls are spot on, assuming you don't have two left hands or something. (speaking as a contender for world high score - almost there, but i've been spending more time chasing challenges than score so far).

It really makes me sad seeing someone so vocally dissuading others from supporting gems like this. $5 is a steal. Support these devs, they deserve it, and the game is excellent. I'd burn more than $5 in the arcade on it in one session back in the day.

Just want to chime in and say that I appreciate your comments about Luftrausers. I'm a huge fan of older arcade games, and this one reminds me of Time Pilot and Sopwith (old MSDOS game). Will be picking this up, as well as Nuclear Throne when it comes out. I've been on the fence about Luftrausers due to the graphics, but love this style of game.

Croatia coach Niko Kovac said his players "better give it up now and go home" after Brazil were awarded what looked to be a soft, and crucial, penalty in their 3-1 win in the World Cup opening game.

With the match tied at 1-1 in the second half, Japanese official Yuichi Nishimura awarded Brazil a contentious spot-kick when striker Fred went down after a light touch from Croatia centre-back Dejan Lovren.

Kovac called the penalty "ridiculous" and said Nishimura was not at the level to be a referee on the sport's biggest stage.

"If that was a penalty, we should be playing basketball," Kovac said. "Those kinds of fouls are penalised there.
