Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

I know I am a day late, but I am just now checking yesterday's and today's sales. fucking stoked to see Banner Saga finally get a good discount, even if it is only 50%. I know it will be cheaper at some point, but this is good enough to me. My first and perhaps only purchase for this sale. I miss the good ol days when these sales were so good that you couldn't help but buy 10+ games without even trying.
If you can catch one of those AMD Never Settle reward codes going cheap on eBay Banner Saga is on of the games you can pick from in an indie double pack.

but can anyone talk me into buying Assassin's Creed 3?
10 hour tutorial? I've heard it's one of the worst of the franchise. Ending isn't good. Assassins Creed games are very similar to each other and can get old quick if you have played other ones.

Wait, you said talk you INTO buying it? Oh wow, yeah idk how I could do that.

Its been a long time since ive played an Assassin's Creed game and ive heard some iffy things, but can anyone talk me into buying Assassin's Creed 3?

Im mostly just interested in the revolutionary war setting, for all that's worth.
Its...ok. It's better than AC1, but worse than any of the AC2/spinoffs. Some of the game is pretty good. It's the only AC game where I just played the main missions and skipped basically everything else. Probably due to the fact it takes a very long time to get up and running as an actual Assassin.

It's not a bad game, but in comparison to other AC games it can be viewed as so.

It's not a bad game, I'd put it better than the original AC but worse than 2. Never played 4 (yet) so I can't compare to that. If you want it because of the setting, then you can't get that in the other games, so that'd be one reason to get it. As far as other AC games, if I could go back I'd probably skip buying 1 and 3 and just get 2 + all of it's sequels.

AC4 was my GOTY last year.

AC3 is hot garbage. Its better than 1, but its optimized very poorly, Connor sucks, and has a shitty ending to the Desmond story arc.

The Ezio games are great, and AC4 is awesome.

To add to the others... I'm currently muddling through it. Waaay too much hand-holding (and not allowing you to do the things you know you can do from the other games), initial character & story is annoying. Odd visual bugs you wouldn't expect from a top publisher or AAA franchise (magically taking rings off of people's fingers who are wearing thick leather gloves in cutscenes, ponytails clipping through high coat collars, etc).

Now I'm finally playing the main character as a teen & climbing trees & hunting rabbits in a forest. Oh, and yesterday it started crashing like crazy on me (in that forest). Going to try a couple 'fixes' for that I found last night, but if it keeps happening I may be shelving it & moving on.

Even if I manage to get it running stably I doubt I will do all the side missions & I definitely will not be going for 100% sync like I did in the previous installments.

AC4 is a cool game (haven't played the previous titles to compare) but I've stalled out during the ninety-eleven "Follow these guys and listen to them talk for five minutes -- don't be seen!" missions in a row. Booooooor-ring....

The open world stuff is lots of fun though and I can spend a good while just cruisin' around, taking out ships and pirating it up.

I wonder what Valve's logic is in repeating flashes, dailies and community votes (sometimes simultaneously) yet letting fan favorites fall into obscurity through ignorant hive mind. If they already have the ok from the developers for potential discounts, why don't they allow more diversity in sales without so many repeats? I'm not trying to complain about the percentage of discounts or whatnot, since that is probably outside of their control. I just don't get the concept of community votes that will never see the light of day if lost when so many sale slots are repeated ad nauseum.
12 games featured instead of 9, 8 Flash Deals instead of 4, let the community vote for an extra percent off of one game and let the others still go on a deeper discount. Or GTFO!

There's too big of a catalog of games on Steam for only a hundred to make it to the front page over the course of 10 days.

Shuggy keys available here. Doesn't look like they care about the twitter part.
It's a decent little game too!

Its been a long time since ive played an Assassin's Creed game and ive heard some iffy things, but can anyone talk me into buying Assassin's Creed 3?

Im mostly just interested in the revolutionary war setting, for all that's worth.
Do it. I think it was a great game

Gameplay > Story for me and I think the story was lackluster but the gameplay was decent. I have also never gotten more than 75% done with any AC game but ACIV and ACIII (completed both of these)

Alright guys I'm gonna take the plunge and pick it up. Hope the setting makes up for any misgivings. It'll probably just end up on my 300+ game backlog anyway.

On another topic, started FarCry Blood Dragon a few days ago and am having a blast with it. Its a hilarious experience for a few bucks if it hits a vote sale again and anyone hasn't picked it up.

In regards to AC3 the gameplay is fine but the story is so bland. They tried too hard to make it a stepping stone for new comers. I hate when devs do that especially if the games beginning is so recent. If you care about the modern day story (which I thought was the only good part of 3) then buy it. If not then I would say pass on it unless you really love the setting you just feel the urge to run around in revolutionary America.

I wish I had less games and/or was fresh off the turnip truck console bandwagon, so I could feel something, anything positive towards this Summer Sale.

I haven't purchased all that much over the course of the past 3 or so Steam Sales. Maybe its time to take a break and start working through the ol' backlog. I myself took a break and started playing my consoles again rather than touch my own backlog. But my overall point about a break from Steam still stands.

#FakeCAG Never work through your backlog, tis sacrilege.

Steam sales definitely get less fun the more and more games you have. I miss the feeling of my very first Steam Summer Sale (and my first Amazon Winter Sale) I don't think I went a single price flip without buying something But now with a backlog of close to 500 there's just not much that really piques my interest that I don't already own and is at a decent price point.

And I know there are plenty of CAGs who have a much larger backlog than mine.

After reading some reviews for Steamworld Dig....I think i'll wait. Super Motherload sounds cooler and well....I may just buy Shovel Knight since i'm not buying much in the sale so far.

Don't think it'd help, I'm behind on AAA titles and light(er) on games and it's still meh on a good day.

Well coming from console would help still.

Steamworld Dig is a great lil game, def check it out for $2.50.

I got to play Shovel Knight and boy is it fun. Worth every penny.

I will only craft my badges if I can possibly win something....I still have likely a Battleblock Theater badge to do and one more summer badge.

Also Steam really needs to like say limit dailies to decent AAA to higher profile titles and leave the rest to the more unknown games. I'm tired of AAA repeats when there is so few slots in the first place. I would love if there was say 12-15 daily choices and then some say 8 or also 12 Indie/lesser known choices while community/flash could be either.....I just feel shafted when I want lesser known games or lesser profile games to get some of these flash sale/community choice slots.

Why couldn't Goat Simulator just be a daily...the rest are repeats and that will win and it just hurts because Pixelboy will likely not get another better percentage off sale.

I think the Steam Sales/Steam store/Steam client just need an overhaul. I think they're stuck a bit too much into the past and it feels a bit behind the times IMHO. GOG is doing the flash sales right though they have less to offer, and it seems to work well for them. Every store/site is trying to remain relevant when Steam takes up so much of the spotlight.

Just a heads up for anyone who is a double agent and has a PS4. Strider is apparently going to be one of the PS+ games next month, so you might not want to spend much of it on Steam.

How long is Blood Dragon?
Someone gave me a Uplay version for free but if rather have it on steam; depending on length
I 100%ed it in about 9 hours. I think it probably took me 6 hours to beat, but if you aren't the type to explore and do side objectives and just power through instead you could probably beat it in 4 or 5.

I think we'll probably see a lot more of this in the future. Sell the game cheap, hope people pay more for the DLC. Sucks for the consumer, but it's probably a better financial decision for the devs =/
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I hate the idea of paying more for DLC than the game, but most DLC is skippable anyway. I certainly don't want to spend a lot on pointless DLC, but if I liked the game enough that I want more, it might be worth the price. I just hate how it screws with your ability to assign value to your time and the amount of content you are getting for the price. Games should cost $5, and DLC should cost $1!

I love this.

"Hey guys, talk me into buying AC3."

"It's shit. It will piss on your dreams and make you hate the franchise."

"Hmm, okay, I think I'll get it!"

I'm teasing you just a bit, don't feel bad. I feel the same way. I've wanted to try AC3 for the setting for awhile now, but even diehard AC fans have told me that it's skippable. I might still try it one day, when it's $2.50 and I don't have anything else to play.

I'm pretty new, but I've already seen practically every game here cheaper before in just the last 2 months. But if I had just come in now, I guess I would be excited.

meh, the past few days have had some disappointing showings, particularly in the dailys...but overall i've been satisfied. i've bought much more (i think) than i did in the winter sale. So far I've gotten:

Rayman Legends

Cyan Collection

Blackwell Bundle

Can't Stop Laughing Bundle

Tomb Raider Legend + Anniversary and Tomb Raider: Tomb of the Lost Adventurer DLC

All of the BL2 Headhunter Packs

Betrayer

Outlast

Far Cry 1

Far Cry Blood Dragon

Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Depth of Fear: Knossos

Defy Gravity Extended

Actually typing all that out I didn't realize I bought that much

I didn't even realize that Motherload was coming to Steam. I was a huge fan of the Goldium edition, and apparently a copy of the original is given out when you buy super.

If I were to get AssCreed Revelations and/or Brotherhood, would the Deluxe Edition stuff be worth it at all?
I asked a few people last sale, and I think the consensus was that Revelations is worth it, and Brotherhood isn't. Even then it's mainly if you are interested in stuff like behind the scenes videos and concept art; I think there's only one story DLC in the Revelations deluxe edition that's worthwhile.

Ashes is a good one to ask about it.

Might pull the trigger on Dishonored (yeah I missed the glitch last time).  I just need MysterD to come in and overhype the DLC so I know it's not worth it.

You know... I thought about that 2.49 limit myself but decided against waiting given that itll be at least a year before it hits that price. I mean, AC3 is still on page 2 of the best seller list right now.

Actually the Knife of Dunwall is pretty fun. You get a cool power where you can summon an assassin to help you kill or distract the enemy. I played the first mission to get the Playfire reward and so far the DLC has been fun but I haven't played past the first mission in Knife and I haven't tried Brigmore yet.

Anyone have Another World: 20th Anniversary on Steam?

If yes - does it force launcher (to Steam) when booting the game directly from its EXE w/in its game-folder?

Might pull the trigger on Dishonored (yeah I missed the glitch last time). I just need MysterD to come in and overhype the DLC so I know it's not worth it.
I actually preferred Daud's combat/abilities to Corvo's, but Corvo's story is much better.

Base-game's great, though - VERY high recommendation.

But, please read on...there's more...

BUYER BEWARE!!

MysterD don't own the bloody DLC.

Damn Bethesda and their crummy DLC discounts.

Only 50% off for DLC's piece-by-piece, yet GOTY Edition is 66% off.

Bastards, I tell you.

If I owned ZERO of Dishonored content, even at 66% off - I'd buy the Dishonored GOTY Edition.

Bethesda's DLC practices and DLC discounts SUCK.

Dishonored is really good.

It's like the new Thief game if the new Thief game was better, had assassins + super-powers.
FTFY. ;)

EDIT:

I actually preferred Daud's combat/abilities to Corvo's, but Corvo's story is much better.
Dammit - I really want those DLC's!

I hate Bethesda's DLC practices vs. GOTY Edition practices!

{still waits for better deal}
