Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

You people are really missing out!
I'm holding out for Rock Simulator.

steamworkshop_webupload_previewfile_274135797_preview.jpg

kind've screwed up when you think about it

They really put alot of time and effort into Sanctum, which was a great tower defense/FPS hybrid, and didn't really get much out of it.

They screwed around and made Goat Sim as a joke and and had much more success, lol.
i guess the good news is the success of goat sim will help fund the games they truly want to make in the future

it's rigged... nothing is true.. everything is permissible
Truth is non-linear

Goat Simulator is the #1 Selling game on Steam right now.

The end of Western Civilization is upon us....
My new game development plan:

1) Lrn2program

2) Make a shitty game

3) Pay popular youtube LPer's to play said game

4) ???

5) Profit

May require paying extra for them to say it is really good, but I'm pretty confident it'd work.

Actually I like the idea of Goat Simulator, the one problem is the game industry is worse then SNL when it comes to overdoing things. Seems there is already starting to be a ton of Goat Sim clones. They beat everyone to it, stop trying to be "the next Goat Sim." There doesn't need 40 of them, 1 or 2 is fine.

Like Goat Simulator II, Goat Simulator the Third, Goat Simulator IV: Black Hay, Red Goat Redemption (console only), Watch Goats, Bordergoats (now with more DLC!), Goat Age, Elder Goats, Just Goats 2, Goat Raider, Coconut Goats, Goats: Colonial Goats....

Hey geyes!

I was at Benihana enjoying my free birthday dinner (CAG4LIFE) and immersing myself in authentic Japanese culture.

Can anyone summarize what I may have missed since like 6 hours ago?

I see that Goat Simulator is on sale. One of my top five games this year and better than all that indie crap you guys play so buy it.

Are you drunk?

All the hate talk on Assassin's Creed 3 got me to take a look at it again. I've got all the correct versions of the earlier AC games, thanks to advice I've received here. But now that I'm looking at 3 -- god help me -- I really want it. I know it's supposed to be one of the weaker games in the series, but I love the Colonial American period and romping around in that era seems way more fun than it should.

I know it's hated, but I'm wondering this...

The Deluxe version really looks like the way to go. There's a good amount of Washington story DLC in there and it seems to be pretty well-received. The base game is already at Ubi's rock-bottom $4.99. It just doesn't seem like the Deluxe version is going to drop any farther than $12.49.
AC3 is the weakest game in the series. I give the first one a pass because it was the first one, but the Tyranny of George Washington has nothing to do with the main storyline. Its pretty hokey.

AC3 is an un-optimized piece of garbage. Even high end rigs have trouble with it b/c Ubi screwed it up so bad and thats not to mention the awful story and terrible lead character (altho Haytham is great).

If people really want to play it, its the one game where I strongly suggest that if you have a console that it can be played on, play it there.

Oh yes, and fuck whoever brought up that game in the first place. :(
It was me :(

I only picked up the base game cus I'm going in almost completely blind on it.

Any who, played some of Brothers: Tale of two sons today. Game is good if you are into a relatively easy heartfelt story with some rather interesting controls. I think working both analog sticks this way might make a man out of me yet.

No one's done Llama Simulator yet, have they? :whistle2:k

Coconut Goats
... is that...

A friggin' PC Gamer reference?

Edit: Wait, they're still running that gag in the magazine, even now?

Holy crap your birthday is two days before mine? Happy Burfday.

Are you drunk?
As a CAG I usually refuse to buy alcoholic drinks at restaurants or bars. Way too expensive. Unless I'm forced to like at the comedy club they have a two item minimum so I usually get a couple of beers.

So short answer - no. That's what Benihana wants. For you to use the free dinner as an excuse to waste money on overpriced drinks.

On a related note, anyone have any recommendations on a good, cheap backlit keyboard?

Also, the goat game is seriously good. Better than that AAA crap most of you guys play.

It should have been Watchgoats.

Paradox isn't messing with people regarding the CK2 packs.

One pack is supposed to be at 50 percent off for the entire sale.  It only contains 21 DLC and costs $24.99

The other pack is supposed to include those 21 DLC plus the base game.  Right now it's supposed to total up to over 40 dollars.   From what I can tell, the flash sale for the main game has glitched the entire pack to be discounted 80 percent and now costs $15.99

The packs  apparently haven't been updated in a long while because they don't contain anywhere near all the DLC.  (21 vs 43)

you missed out on some scintillating conversation which i can guarantee was way better than whatever crap you forced down your gullet simply because it was free.

Curious if anyone purchased over $500-$1000 for this year's summer sale?
given how everybody is complaining about how much the sale sucks my guess is no

If you don't like the legitimate complaints regarding crappy DLC pricing, then don't read it.

I still say some of the votes have been rigged or the majority of the Steam community is terminally stupid.
But you have to read stuff to see what it says.

I guess he could "unread" it. :whistle2:k

I think you might have missed a post I quoted you in a few days ago. You should probably try to find it.

It's sad, but the discussion topic are being repeated about as much as games are during this Summer Sale.
Feel free to start a new one then.

god damn it, when will broforce go cheaper. the hell is this! (and Transistor while you're at it)
Transistor came out a month ago, expecting a big sale is just wishful thinking.

I see that Goat Simulator is on sale. One of my top five games this year and better than all that indie crap you guys play so buy it.
Goat Sim is indie too (but I did buy it).

And the winner is Hitler Cat!

Please PM me with your choices of games from now to the end of the sale. I should be able to get all Flash and Daily deals so just PM when you find something you want.

Whoa shit. Found it.

I, and you, are awesome. Cheers mate. =D

What are you guys complaining about? Of course Goat Simulator won the vote. It is the GoaT Simulator after all. Boring indies like Ikaruga cannot hope to compare.

It's not a glitch. It's just Paradox being Paradox. :wall:

Yeah, I realiza that it was pointless to hurl insults like that. But I've heard that excuse many times and it's just not true. People would buy it if they couldn't pirate and what really made me angry is that hard-working devs should not just have to accept whatever paying people give, like you said they should. Pirates have no right to get things for free. I just feel like you could have worded that better in a way that did not advocate piracy.
It's not really an excuse, nor was what I said in any way advocating piracy.

I'm going to go on a bit here, so I will put up a spoiler tag so those that don't care can skip it:

The reality of the situation (unfortunately) is that piracy exists. Companies (and some people) see things in absolutes. They think that everyone who has pirated a game is a sales loss.

What I was saying in my original post, is that many (I'll even say most) pirates would not have purchased the game or movie or whatever. Things aren't black and white, but from what Ubisoft has said over the years, they seem to think it is.

Many pirates don't even have the option of purchasing a game legitimately (due to differing regions, restrictive governments, whatever), or they simply cannot afford to. Neither of these type of pirates would have been a "sale for Ubisoft". Then there is the hoarder pirate, who downloads everything because she can (the acquaintance I mentioned in my earlier post would obviously an analog example of this [she had 6 Ikea Billy bookcases with dvds doublestacked on each shelf back when I knew her]). There would be no way this pirate would be able to buy everything she obtained illegally... maybe some of it, but no where near all. Lastly, the casual pirate, the one most likely to buy a game if he or she couldn't obtain it legally.

Ubisoft sees every illegal download as a lost sale, but the reality is quite different.

I never once said pirates have a right to anything. I really do think you misread/misunderstood where I was coming from and are making judgments based on that.

Most of my ire towards ubisoft right now is due to the recent Watch Dogs fiasco, but before that there were many, many things they have done to piss off the PC gaming community. Always on DRM, half-assed ports, delayed releases, etc.

They have actually said that they weren't going to release games on PC, or delay games because 90% of PC gamers would pirate their software. Where they got this ridiculous number is a mystery. But they've stuck with it over the years.

As for hard working devs - this may surprise you, but I agree with you. Back when I was a console gamer I completely understood the idea of a 'season pass' included with the game at purchase. The idea behind it being that used game purchasers would then spend $10 (to the devs/publisher) to get that pass as well, unlocking that content.

I didn't think it was the end of the world that the devs would get something from used sales. Most gamers I knew were in an uproar over it, but I could see where publishers would be upset that gamestop was making tons of money on repeated sales & returns without doing anything. I could see that used sales ($56 dollars used instead of $60 new on day 2) could seriously hurt the industry as a whole since most people will keep that $4 if given the option.

What I was saying by the "be happy with the sales they get" comment was that they seem to be focusing on piracy, and attempting to stop it (which is laughable, since at one point their own customer service reps were telling people to install cracked .exe files to get around issues their own teams couldn't solve), instead of the fact that their games are actually selling really well - better, in fact, than most of them deserve to.

Now, again, the reason I say that is most of the ports we get haven't optimized well (or at all) for PC. To make matters worse, with Watchdogs they've actually gone so far as to purposefully degrade the experience of PC users, and make the game run worse on high-powered PCs than inferior consoles while doing it.

Additionally, many Ubisoft games require the uPlay client regardless of the platform it's purchased on. Another unnecessary layer of DRM that gets hacked out by pirates in a matter of days, even hours, but honest PC gamers get stuck with forever. Basically, the only people who are affected by this is the law-abiding, honest, gamer.

Now, lastly, as for wording things better - maybe you should take your own advice next time you're about to post something where you curse at someone, call them stupid and hope they get banned when you're the one making false assumptions.

LOL, most people here haven't spent $1000 on steam in total... in 6 years I've spent a total of $1018 on steam.
A few years ago I remember seeing people who posted screenshots of them 'loading up' their Steam wallets with $500+ and spending it all. No idea how that was possible.

glennfrank, it doesn't matter how correct you are, how well you're stating your stance, or how politely you reason with him to stop jumping to conclusions and drawing erroneous suppositions from his having clearly only partially-read what you've posted.  He's still going to draw the conclusion that you're condoning piracy because you validly dare to disagree with him on part of his argument, and he'll still reply as if you had done so.  Once.  Anywhere.

Thanks, good stuff! I think you've talked me down from the ledge.

You're probably right, but back when I was growing up my mom always taught me to at least try. Never quite un-learned it I guess.

It's funny that the guy thinks it's devs who are the ones who suffer.  Most pirated stuff is AAA derpfodder.  Devs rarely get a percentage of a sale, it's more often than not a flat fee from the publisher.  So ultimately you'd be hurting... stockholders?

"Ubisoft retroactivately region-locked Valiant Hearts gift copies"

If you did activate the game you are pretty safe though. Only those gift copies are region locked now.(Meaning from Russian Store when the glitch's day)

I see. Yes, it seems like I misunderstood a little of what you had to say. I still say that a small but notable percentage of pirates would buy the game if they could not pirate them. Most would not, of course. And while most pirated games are the AAA ones, some indie games made by an ordinary, struggling dev have also been pirated often. But I do get that stopping piracy is a little overblown, especially by Ubisoft. Those guys are ridiculous.
