And force you to actually get one, right? ;)

At this rate, you're going to inspire me to start up Jak 3 to finish the trilogy on PS3.
Yeah that would probably seal the deal for me.

About Nier: I haven't played much of it yet, but everything I've heard is true so far. Awesome music and terrible visuals. Visuals don't really affect my opinion of a game, so it won't hamper my enjoyment, but geez this game is ugly.

I just cannot get into Jak 2. I liked the first one and just don't like the GTA style of 2. Eventually, I will finish it.
Yeah, I started seeing all of its flaws a few hours in and was glad to get the plat and be done with the game. I recall enjoying Jak 3 far more, so I'm more inclined to start it up.

Nier was ugly 5 years ago, I can only imagine what it looks like now.

Jak 2 was def the worst of the series and overall 3 was okay. I wish they had stayed with the Jak 1 gameplay.

I've never played a R&C game. Based on the collection port, it looks like it'd be quite playable on Vita.

Here's new gameplay for that, btw:

Oh, that reminds me of something I forgot to say when you posted that Nier would be your next game:

I know that you don't go for all of the trophies in the games you play, but if you stop playing Nier after "beating" it just once, you're really depriving yourself of the full experience. It takes quite a few hours to earn all four endings, but believe me when I tell you that it really left an impression on me that I'll never forget.

There was stellar reception for Towerfall and Strider because Microsoft had Strider at a great price recently but Sony has continued to one-up them. Besides that, July has significance for CAGs because Muramasa is free so quickly after having been in a recent sale despite Sony saying that they wouldn't that. I think we all wanted to believe them when they said they wouldn't do that, but now it's proof that anything could be PS+ fodder. You have to think that there are not that many publishers who are willing to put their A-list games in the IGC and that we'll see more indie games and previously discounted games on PS+ going forward.
A little over two months later is quick? Sounds like they should stop offering big sales completely if that's too small of a window to have before games can be free for PS+.

If you've purchased something and it goes free for PS+ a few months later without you having started it up yet, then you might have a bigger problem than Sony's policies.

yeah, i was mainly talking about the ps3/vita selection. i'm pretty excited for the ps4 games, and i don't even have one yet. i'd be more excited for muramasa if i didn't already own it. maybe i'll see if it trades in for a good price anywhere, and renew my excitement for it.

How awesome would it be if I could time it so that MGS2 HD (a huge surprise for me in terms of its narrative) would be my 50th plat? I'll have to see how things pan out...

I guess I am very deprived. I didnt get very far into Nier as it was just too fucking weird for me.

I read there were four endings and that it took four playthroughs to see all of them. HLTB has it around 20 hours for the main story; would it be safe to say you could run through it in 15 hours on a 2nd, 3rd and 4th playthrough?

I hope this is a GoW like collection (retro digital cross-buy in effect) instead of a Sly like collection (no retro digital cross-buy). I would play the shit out of these on my Vita.

It helped that I was right before the end of Going Commando. I think I'm in the second-to-last part of Sly 2, so that shouldn't take much more time either.

I did start up Jak 2 last night for a bit and that's such a weird overhaul of what worked great in the first game. I didn't get to the shooty parts just yet, but I was surprised that they turned the Precursor Orbs into cheat currency and moved that awesome roll jump from R1 to L1.

For the second playthrough, yes, though it actually might take less than 15 hours since New Game+ starts you at the midway point of the game and you retain everything from your first playthrough. For the third and fourth endings, you need to collect all 30 weapons, which may take awhile. You can use this guide to help get them. You can then make a save file at the final save point and earn the final two endings using that file. Make sure you choose the first option when given a choice to earn the third ending, then reload that file and choose the second option for the fourth and final ending.

Jak 2 driving - You just need to remember to turn well in advance of the actual turn and adjust when you take the corner. It takes a while to get used to and it still sucks but once you master it a bit it gets less frustrating.

The hard part for me is avoiding other drivers in the "slum" section.  You really need to master changing from high to low in that section.

Sweet, thanks for the info man. Will New Game+ give you an extra go at all the bosses that you have to beat within a certain time limit for the trophies?

Also, should I go for all the weapons on playthrough 1, or can that be done on the 2nd?

It's cross-buy for EU, but no announcement for NA yet. Sly and J&D not being cross-buy in NA does not give me high hopes.

I really should give Sly:TiT another try. It just doesn't grab me at all in the first half hour or so, though.

In case you didn't see my edit.
Thanks for pointing that out.

You can go for the weapons right away if you want, though you may have an easier time doing it later. FYI, this is from PSNT's trophy guide:

Weapons you missed during the story can be brought from Blacksmith's around the world, however the three Labyrinth's weapons can only be obtained through side-quests.

Someone should seriously post this every 20 posts or so. Not that it'll prevent the inevitable.
Yeah, this.

How is that not quick? If they said they wouldn't offer discounted games for PS+ soon after sale, then they couldn't have added it the following month. So the month after that, they still didn't add it. But the month after that one, they did add it. So they took the second chance they got - the one just after the first available opportunity - to add it to the PS+ lineup.

Think of it this way: a month of PS+ gives you 5 or 6 free games per month. So just 10-12 games after being steeply discounted, we are being offered Muramasa again already. That's out of literally hundreds of games on PSN. There's an opportunity cost to not getting a new game for sale or free.

And c'mon - this is CAG. Everyone here has a backlog of more than two months, so while $7.50 doesn't break the bank, it could have bought another game or two. I'm personally looking at Dustforce- I enjoyed the demo but don't want to pay $5.50 for the game when my backlog is huge as it is.

Cool, I'll just enjoy the game on my 1st playthrough and then check out the guide to clean up the rest of the stuff. This may take a while as I'll probably take breaks to play other stuff, but it sounds like something I could find the time for. Thanks again.

I played Nier on 360 and got most of the achievements, but I literally don't remember a single thing from it.
Considering I did the same thing but got every achievement, and yet I can remember quite a bit from it (I consider NIER among the most underrated games I've played), I'm not sure what went wrong for you... :whistle2:k

I'm in the Forest Temple now on Ocarina of Time, can't wait to finally finish this once and for all. If there is one thing I have to commend Nintendo on it's how their games really do stand the test of time. This game is 16 years old and it holds up pretty damn well.

I just remember a talking book that was kind of an asshole. And was there a fishing pole at one point?

You're barely halfway through.

No doubt that the best game ever made holds up well!

Lol, I know I'm not that far and to make it worse I've gotten further plenty of times in the past but never put the nail in the coffin. It's just weird all the things I knock Zelda for now (no voice acting) etc. etc. seem to vanish when I get into the thick of it. It's also nice on the 3DS having the item screen readily available. I'm hoping that Majora's Mask makes the leap to the 3DS now too. Although it should come out soon since once I finish up these Zelda titles and maybe Shinobi I might sell it off.

It sucks that the sly trilogy is not cross buy here. Got plats on all the ps3 games and would def play the vita versions, just not for $30. I am hoping that R&C is cross buy, but doubt it. one of my favorite series, as evidenced by my trophy list.

What's worse is I have the Sly Trilogy on the PS3 on disc, I'm near the end of 2 and finished 1. I wouldn't mind buying Sly 3 piece-meal for Vita to finish up the original series before Thieves in Time but there's no option to buy just the one game but there is on PS3. Ugh.

yeah i platted nier, fantastic game.
Great music and that 2nd playthrough story makes it actually heart crushing as a plot. I still have nightmares about that poor warthog creature just defending its creepy ball babies. That whole game is creeped up from emil and kaine and weiss. and I always remember starting it up and the first thing you hear is a cluster f bomb as it loads. The schmup bullet hell parts werent as awesome as i thought they would be, but farming/fishing and ps3 time manipulation sure made up for it.

and that 5 minute intro that you don't fully understand until your last hours of play. crazy deep.

I feel like I shouldn't read that. Should I?

Yeah...nobody cares about your impulse buys, dude. If you want to quit getting burned on sales, quit buying stuff before it hits free on PS+. It's not like you can finish the PS+ games as fast as they come out anyway.

I did quit impulse purchases. To be clear, I didn't buy Muramasa when it was on sale and now I'm being rewarded since it's free now. And I'll probably pass on Dustforce since I have more than enough games to play already as you said. I'm just saying this could have repercussions down the line if a significant number of PS+ members do just that. That's a more serious issue than say, PlayStation customers griping about not getting free $5 credit for being loyal customers, and Sony kowtowed to that.

I own many of the games that are offered for free on PS+, but I'm not sore when one goes free for PS+ before I've started it up. That's my fuck-up if I was upset about it and isn't the fault of anybody else.

What's the limit that there should be? Four Months? Six Months? Not every publisher is interested in putting their Vita games on PS+ and not every game on Vita is a fit for PS+ either, so the pool isn't as large as every game on PSN. As you noted, a minority of the Vita's games are ever free for PS+, so even abstaining from buying anything means you'll miss out on a ton of games. Just looking at Vita publishers so far for PS+, counting July:

[customspoiler='Vita PS+ Publisher List']
SCEA - 10
Aksys - 3
Curve - 3
Double Eleven - 2
Futurlab - 2
Sega - 2
505 - 1
Amanita - 1
Capcom - 1
Creat Studios - 1
Devolver - 1
Digital Reality - 1
Drinkbox - 1
Farsight - 1
Frima - 1
Grip - 1
Gungho - 1
NISA - 1
Oddworld - 1
Playdead - 1
Playerthree - 1
Renegade Kid - 1
Ripstone - 1
SOE - 1
Tate - 1
Tecmo Koei - 1
Ubisoft - 1
VBlank - 1
Zen Studios - 1
[/customspoiler]

It starts to paint a picture that bigger publishers have mostly avoided putting their games up for free. Smaller publishers are more frequent contributors like Aksys and Curve before it's just a lot of one-timers. Ubisoft, Tecmo, and Capcom are the biggest of the one-timers and Ubisoft and Capcom have mostly halted their support for the system.

I'm going to work more on adding this sort of info to the OP, as there are useful things to learn from it like the fact that Oddworld Inhabitants has put all of the Oddworld games so far on PS+.

Edit: You didn't even buy Muramasa? Why is this even an issue then?
