[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I agree with the rest of your points but with this one it's clear why Nintendo made the Mario Kart 8 promo so good, they wanted to move consoles and based on the June numbers it worked fairly well. Even if they released the coolest platinum reward ever it wouldn't move consoles, so I get that the platinum reward aren't on the same level as the Mario Kart 8 promo.
While I agree it's very clear why Nintendo made their MK8 promo so good, nothing really explains why their CN rewards are so "terrible" (I reiterate that they aren't terrible, just very flawed).
The CN reward program is meant to reward people who support their product. Some of us bought the wii u while others were putting it down, and the same can be said for the 3DS. Yet these somewhat pitiful rewards in comparison to the MK8 promotion just seem to say, to me at least, that our loyalty is no longer worth as much compared to new consumers.

I just read on a reddit post that you can only redeem 1 club nintendo platinum/gold prize to an account, can anyone confirm this?

To clarify, I've redeemed DKR to my account, but what if I buy a gold reward from someone and try to redeem it to my 3ds?
i redeemed DKCR for my own 3ds and bought a wario & game code from someone else and redeemed it to my same account (for wii u) no problem. they are just eShop codes so you can do as many as you want.

1) I'd argue that it was less about moving consoles (it probably helped) and was more about having strong sales numbers for Mario Kart / being able to hype the attachment rate. Like if you take a look at the posts around here, you can see a good number of people bought multiple copies for the resale value, to save having to buy other games or cheap / easy eShop credit. Even some people in the trading forum claim to have bought SEVEN, which isn't going to move consoles, but it will lead to inflated sales. The crazy thing is that Mario Kart 8 is such a good deal that its hard not to come out ahead. However, I rather not get into flipping / sales.

2) I think you missed the point. To put it simply, my point is that getting platinum is significantly less rewarding than buying Mario Kart 8 and logically should only demotivate people from bothering with the program. Nintendo should be trying to push people to be brand loyal / purchase their games at launch and new, though things like this increase the trend of people not redeeming the codes and not giving a shit about the program. Lets also not forget that there is no reason they couldn't match its quality either. Like Conan said, it's clear why they made the MK 8 promo so good, but it's not so clear why this promo isn't as good.

Anyone calling the Wii U dead hasn't been paying attention. Mario Kart 8 led to huge console sales, and I expect Smash to have a big impact, even assuming that it won't come with a free game promotion. Meanwhile, Nintendo had a good reaction from E3, and I've seen enough of these message boards for PS4 and XB1 to know that they are still waiting on their big-name games, too. I'm not saying that Nintendo won't come out of this gen in 3rd place, but someone has to be third and it doesn't mean that you don't remain profitable.
Hardly. Mario Kart gave it a boost over past months but they still finished well behind the PS4 in may and June which had no system seller exclusives come out.

Anyway, enough if this off topic sales talk. Sorry for getting the thread off track.

They mean one prize redeemed for your Platinum or Gold status. Codes can be redeemed as much as you want however they're obtained.

You know what would have made *some* people happy... let the Plat. reward be one of the other 4 games from the MK8 promo that Europe got and we didn't in the U.S.

Oh man I know at least 10 people who will buy a Wii U when smash comes out.

yep, Wii U only sold 140k which is pretty bad especially considering the huge predictions for it for the month since MK8 was only out a couple of days in May.

i just got another batch of codes from gamestop today. im not using my coins yet in hopes of next months game selection being better than this month
As long as you don't go past 600, it really doesn't matter. If you redeem them on July 1 or June 29, they will expire on June 30 2 years from now all the same.

Anyway, heres a general FAQ to help you or anyone else looking to get up to speed:

  • Always factor in post play surveys! A week after you redeem a game, you should get another survey for like 10 coins. This can be quickly forgotten when you're doing them in bulk, so try to keep it in mind. Typically you can save 1 or 2 codes a year if you pay attention.
  • Unless it's unavoidable, leave a buffer. Nintendo likes to do promotions and pretty much outright punishes people for redeeming codes. This is because you might need to redeem a system and game (around 200 coins, so if you're at 600 you will redeem 800 in 1 calendar year) and sometimes redeeming multiple codes limits your options*.
  • Do every Intend to Buy. If theres one thing I can't stress enough, its how important doing every intend to buy is. Yes, I know they're a pain in the ass, but they last for like 5 years (giving you 10 points if you ever happen to get the game) and it's impossible to predict what the future holds. Case in point, how many people got Game & Wario as their platinum reward that never would have conceived a reality where they would get the digital version of Game & Wario?
  • If you want something or think something is cool, just buy it. If there is one thing I can tell you about Club Nintendo after 5 years, its that there probably isn't a better thing coming along. Even then, looking at the current state of elite rewards, I can tell you that having to redeem more coins because you got a 3DS XL cradle and want the Luigi figure is probably a better use than earning another elite reward.
  • Games change when Nintendo gets to it. If a game says it expires on blank blank, that means it will change the day after at the earliest. Nintendo has a pretty bad history of things getting delayed or getting around to it at some point in the evening. While I haven't a clue what is so complicated about changing 4 games once a month, its best not to question these things.
Also, don't forget to post derogatory things about Club Nintendo so people think you're cool!

They've already mostly abandoned it to try to jump start the Wii U.

There's no system seller potential games announced for it other than Smash Bros, which is also getting a Wii U version. I loved my 3DS the past couple of years. But it's getting ditched once I clear out DKCR and Shovel Knight as there's literally nothing out I haven't played that interests me, and nothing announced that interests me.

I also don't think they'll give the 3DS a lot of time. With the Wii U not selling, they really need to get a new console out late 2015, early 2016 at the latest. And if they go the uniform platform route they've discussed, they'll want a new portable at/near the same time.

Anyway, the mobile stuff is the real threat. If they lose the kids to mobile, they're in deep shit. Their market was always built by hooking kids with Mario, Pokemon etc., and having enough stay fans as adults to keep playing those games instead of moving on purely to Sony/MS/PC or quitting gaming. The Vita shit sales already show there's no real adult market for portables, most are just fine playing CoD etc. on their big screen and dicking around on their phones/tablets other times. Keeping kids is their only hope.
Sounds more like, "I'm not looking forward to many 3DS games, so no one else is either." Pokemon Omega Red/Alpha Sapphire, Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate are just a few of the big games.

I'm tired of all this "Nintendo/Sony/MS is DOOMED!" I mean, I've heard people say doom and gloom about basically all the systems, but it seems like it is getting worse. Going by what only the "fans" say, Sony, MS, and Nintendo should have all been out of business by now.

I say enough of the armchair analyzing. Just leave the analyzing to the analyst, which many do a terrible job at as well (Pachter).

So was the PS3 a blip as well, since it won't be getting anywhere near the 155 million that the Playstation 2 sold?
PS4 should also be considered a blip as well.

Also, don't forget to post derogatory things about Club Nintendo so people think you're cool!
so a week from now im going to get a ton of 10 coin serveys ? sweet !

Best thing I did was jump back in with Nintendo. Got my first Nintendo handheld (Zelda 3DS XL) in November after taking a 6 yr break. Then got my first Nintendo console (M+L Bundle) in June after a 7 year break. Glad I jumped in when I did. Looking forward to all the great upcoming games and games that I need to catch up on. Especially Wii games.

In case you didn't know, you can get a pretty cheap USB network adapter (third party ones work fine - I think I have a Rocketfish one) and plug your Wii U into Ethernet that way. Mine was basically unusable on WiFi - I couldn't even do the Wii system transfer with the Wii U sitting right next to my router (whereas any number of other devices work fine with it). But once I wired it in, Internet connection has been flawless.

bestbuys in my area are sold out of them sadly so i need to get one from gamestop. it just stinks that you need to buy a seperate piece for what is a staple in consoles now a days :(

Nintendo never had ethernet and I have no idea why. The adapters are really cheap though. I have one right next to me and I haven't used this thing in forever.

ALSO: TO THOSE WHO ARE CONSIDERING USING A FLASH DRIVE FOR GAMES

I have noticed a definite lag while playing Wind Waker in some areas. I can almost guarantee that it is due to slower read/write times, but it is only during certain times of the game. It does get unbearable when there is a lot of enemies on the screen, but eh. This is the cheapest method to playing games.

Or if you have cheap Amazon credit (and I'm pretty sure you do ;)) you could get this or any number of other ones they sell:

http://www.amazon.com/Rocketfish-Network-Adaptor-Designed-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002DAAPPK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1405745375&sr=8-7&keywords=wii+u+network+adapter

Trading CN Platinum reword choice for Pokemon Rumble U or $20 eshop credit.

Sorry for posting here but I can't for some reason post on the trading board and from reading the restrictions I have to be a member for 2 days in order to post and 30 days for a thread. So far this was the on topic I could post in. Again Sorry

Most consumers would rather have wifi if you only gave them one and at least Nintendo lets you add Ethernet via any cheap adapter and doesn't require a specific $120 adapter like someone else did for years.

yep, Wii U only sold 140k which is pretty bad especially considering the huge predictions for it for the month since MK8 was only out a couple of days in May.
Wow that's pitiful. So even with a full month of mario kart they were still vastly outsold? I guess the goal post will move to smash now.

Partly true as they just don't make the types of games I enjoy these days.

But I was having a discussion about how the 3DS wasn't going to hit DS numbers, or probably even PSP numbers, and another poster was disagreeing with the latter.

Of the games you list, none are system sellers. How many people are going to buy a 3DS for the Pokemon remakes who didn't already buy one for X/Y? How many will pick one up for MH4 who didn't get one for MH3? Phoenix Wright/Layton are fairly popular, but in their niche and aren't AAA system sellers. Project STEAM is a steampunk RTS. Maybe it will end up selling some hardware, but more likely to be niche like most console RTS games.

I did't see anything that's getting them from the 45 million sold to anywhere near the 80 million PSPs sold.

As for discussing sales, that's a big part if the hobby for me. I enjoy bullshitting on forums about game industry trends, predictions etc almost as much as playing games anymore. But is obvious this just isn't the site for that and places like GAF are more worth my time. It it is pretty clear that this site just sucks for those kind of discussions, and has just generally sucked since the move to 3.0, That and the resignation of some of the good mods etc. sped up the sites decline and have left it too much of a slickdeals-esque cesspool of broke ass losers who fail at life and can't afford shit without bargains, hoarding and reselling/flipping etc. I should have made my exit from here years ago and will do so now. Peace.

Did I miss something? What alt was that?

edit- nvm I read the post. He went out with a small bang, I've seen better.

Might as well wait for the sale at Best Buy tomorrow for one. And that is odd. I was thinking about getting it, but don't have the Wii anymore, just the Wii U. Let us know how it goes if you do plan on getting a controller.

Pro controller won't work for Wii only VC games , you need a classic controller or CC pro. GameCube controllers aren't compatible with Wii u.

Its a Wii game from the Wii shop, not a Wii U game from the eShop...so no, the Wii U Gamepad and controller will not work. Only the wiimote and the classic controller attachment. For future reference, anytime it says Wii / Wii U that means its a Wii Shop code instead of eShop...they run in Wii mode only and will not take advantage of Wii U controllers or features. That being said, if they ever put the game on the eShop you will be able to purchase it at a discount for $1-2.

i figured that since it says wii/wiiu that it would be compatible with the wii u game pad. would i have to get a classic controller to play this on the wii u then ?

yea you will need to and depending where you get it it could be $20 to $30 brand new for the official controller since most stores already clearanced them out long ago due to nintendo discontinuing them, which explain the high secondary costs for the controller.

If you want something or think something is cool, just buy it. What's the consensus on this? I didn't enter points for the cradle after getting G&W2 and I'll see next year 7/15ish if it was worth it.

nintendo just loves us to buy extra controllers when only one should be necessary huh smh. you would think coding the game for the screen controller would be a piece of cake for them -__-

Redeemed and downloaded Game & Wario yesterday morning as my elite reward! Game is alot of fun so far and I'm glad I ignored those mixed and negative reviews. "Gamer" is one of the creepiest.. yet one of the funniest things I have ever seen! haha. My favorite so far! :). Also received my 299 DDP points this morning from it as well! :D

Nintendo isn't making you buy other controllers at all. They are expecting you to be able to read and see that you should have the controllers available to play the game. The game is also from the Wii's VC and the Gamepad is not available within the Wii mode so no, it is not easy to code a new controller for an old console. It pretty much would require rewriting the basic code for both the Wii and Wii U.

Don't sit here and complain when it says right on the website that "Requires the Classic Controller™ or a Nintendo GameCube™ controller (each sold separately)."

Oh come on now. While I guarantee Strait Edge Follower is wrong about it being a piece of cake (the Wii U simply emulates the Wii system, which is quite different than coding the system to recognize Wii games and emulate it as part of the Wi U software), its not like the complaint was invalid either. It can be annoying having to change controllers between modes and from a user standpoint it would be a lot simpler to have one. Heck, it makes a lot more sense for it to just work than having to read descriptions and details to see make sure it works.

not to mention with alot of the rewards not being wii u compatible it gives me limited options for what games to use it on as i dont have a wii or 3ds :(

All Wii products of the same region will work on the Wii U, you just might need an extra controller (for simpler / older games the Wiimote is enough), so not really. Plus you can always pay the upgrade fee if the Wii U version is out. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it since Nintendo will eventually phase out the Wii stuff (nothing Wii was given as an elite reward), so it will work itself out over time.

Would be really nice if platinum could pick any digital game is they arent going to offer any thing physical. went with nes remix since I like remix 2. its also dumb the only retail 3ds game is a port of a mediocre wii game

Well, the only retail Wii U game is quite possibly the worst first-party Nintendo game on the system(outside of Sing Party) so... Yeah.

holy shit what did dmaul do to get banned?  Constantly trolling in here by some people and dmaul gets the ban hammer?  Was it because of another thread?
