Oh, I also just got the Swinger trophy in GoW II. I was expecting it to be really difficult, but it just took like 4-5 tries...all of which were figuring out that first platform you land on. The camera angle made it a bit difficult to figure out the direction Kratos was headed and I kept being too far left or right and missing the platform. Once I landed on it the rest was done on the first try. Do people actually have trouble with this? idgi.

While Polygon is bad, you can make the case Joystiq is garbage after their best journalists left them to rot. Kotaku is the cesspool of gaming journalism right now. It has deviated to a place I don't even know what the fuck to call it. And yes, Polygon is really bad with all their "controversial" articles and "opinions". They can go die in a fire, along with their obvious bias. I just pay attention once in a while to what the McElroy brothers say, since they seem to actually care about what they write, instead of spouting nonsense. (Exception made to the video where Justin was selling himself as Microsoft crack whore in need of their money).

IGN isn't terrible, but they strike between bland and "mercenaries".

You know my thoughts on this. I just wish people wouldn't blow up over a few pieces or disagreeable staff members. And that applies to all publications. The purpose of any website is to get "clicks" so I don't know why you'd expect them to be coy about it.

Also, people need to understand the difference between journalism and reviews/commentary. Not the same thing. I absolutely think Polygon has the best features of any gaming site. The other day they had a piece on Polish developers and the shit was just so well done. I'm sure a lot of you enjoyed Bulletstorm, no? Really impressive stuff and it's a shame they get such a bad wrap mostly due to GAF.

So it probably determines who is eligible by those people getting one trophy from the DLC. So you and I aren't counted, because we don't have those trophies. But if we get one, we'll be counted as owners and change the %. So like I said, everyone buying that DLC probably plans to get the trophy. DLC %s are usually pretty high up there.

I'm still missing something, or not reading right. You have to go lvl 1-40, then DLC 40-50 right? So you'd have to hit lvl 50 to use rebirth?

No, they get a bad wrap because a few (none almost) good articles don't make up for the rest of crap they post indiscriminately. Most of it is juvenile, generates no worthwhile discussion and even among them, they have disparaged the opinion of the members who have written stupid reviews (namely, Phil Kollar's review of TLOU).

There is a disconnect and Polygon, while promising, looks to be run by each journalist, instead of a whole. Their structure lies in each writing whatever the fuck they want and it looks like nobody there is in charge of saying "What is this shit? No, we're not publishing that." Polygon could be better and that is why I am disappointed in them.

 
Also, prior to this year the only PSN games I'd ever completed with trophies were Catherine...which was last November, Disgaea 3 last March, and Rayman Origins which was April 2012. I've been collecting games and not playing them at all, or just playing the first bit and then dropping them. Even those games I just played them through once and stopped with no effort to collect or really any acknowledgement that there were trophies available. I'm glad I decided to beat one game a week this year as I'm actually getting some use out of my collecting habits now.

96 of the 301 trophies I have are from this month. :)

 
I have a real problem with a site that has someone write a review for a game, gets blasted for it, and everyone else on the site says his review was bad. At least when Jim Sterling wrote that review for FFXIII, the rest of Destructoid stood by him against all the backlash. Leaving your guy to defend for himself is pretty tactless.

Yes. Look at the number of people who have Bioshock 2 on PSNPROFILES...something like 188k. But the owners of the level 50/rebirth DLC is less than 4k. Almost all of those people are folks going for the 100%, so most of them are going to rebirth. So only like 3.5k people who have that DLC need to get rebirth of the % to be that high. If they included all game owners, instead of just DLC owners, the % would probably be something like 3-4%.

That's pretty much it. They don't consider you as an owner of the DLC until you get a trophy for it.

According to my stats, I need about 9 games, so around 1.5 hours left to get to level 40. Then I can go back to sinking my time into awesome JRPGs. I won't be around tomorrow or Thursday though so I'm going to try and get it Friday.

Haven't decided if I want to try for 50 yet. May as well since already gonna be halfway there XP wise at 40. But thats a lot of XP between 40-50. Gonna be long slooow crawl.

Wow, I couldn't agree more. Joystiq used to be the KING of news sites until Chris, Justin and Griffin (anyone else?) left for Polygon. The original Joystiq podcast was one of the best podcasts ever.

Polygon blows, despite their promising sounding original mission statement. That Mario Kart 8 article is now an infamous example of this. Gies and Kuchera are two of the BIGGEST ASSHATS in the industry, and they are constantly saying the most ridiculously asinine things on twitter, and in their articles. Gies is a pretentious egoist who thinks he's better than everyone on earth, and Kuchera is just fuck ing insane. Man, those two make my blood boil.

I just get all my video game news from podcasts and this site now. I can't take these shitty news sites anymore.

I have the Vita version and played it a few times before I traded mah viter in, it's actually a really good port. Get it

So far to get to where I am...36, I've played 12 hours and have something like 74000xp. That's slightly more than what you need for 40-50...so you can expect to put a good 7-9 more hours in. No freaking way.

Polygon's features are it's only saving grace, although I believe one of the best features writers left not too long ago.

Tomorrow I have to call my HR folks at work to find out if it's possible to sell this five year anniversary stock I got last year. I can't log into my stocks account, so I'm not sure. If so that's $85 into the PS4 fund, which would push me to $400 and ready for whatever Amazon has during Black Friday.
