Huh? its all part of the story bro, its based off a book, guy who wrote it was really like all of the movie and did most of the stuff in the movie.
I know but it didn't all need to be in there. It just really made the movie drag and contributed nothing besides another "Oh great, he's super high, I know nothing important is going to happen for the next 15 minutes except for everyone acting like an idiot".

Haha oh yeah. I just realized that was on Netflix last night so I was watching it. Kevin Smith is a guilty pleasure of mine though I don't care for all of his stuff.

Read this. It's funny.

"The 'guy walks into a bar' joke to end all 'guy walks into a bar' jokes:" http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2013/11/18/guy-walks-into-a-bar
That was pretty awful.

And way too much use of the word "like". The word "says" just flows so much better and doesn't remind you a valley girl.

If you want to be funny, you got to make fun of others in this thread. But it can't be forced. You have to have good timing and you can't try to hard.

Like,

"You gotta hand it to blind prostitues"

or

"Did you hear Oscar Pistorius was just cleared of all charges?  Yeah, they found footprints behind the house"

Started the Destiny Beta last night. Pretty fun stuff. Like Rage and Borderlands I guess, but idk. Anyone wanna do some co op later? I'm only level 5 and I have no idea what wren meant earlier when he said he scored 7000 points. lol

Thanks for the advice, Dad!

You do not want to read this. Reviews of the six front page articles on polygon. Because work is not what I want to do today.

Article #1 - Dwarf Fortress wil crush your CPU because creating history is hard

Pretty neat and interesting article about terrain generation. I still feel like I'm missing a massive component of this story (i.e. what is Dwarf Fortress? I guess a game?), but it's cool. Working on something like this for 20 years feels nuts, but more power to those dudes.

Article #2 - No skin thick enough: The daily harassment of women in the game industry

This feels like what people usually give polygon shit for. Not sure why, it seems like they keep publishing these sorts of articles so why do people care? You wouldn't ask a snow leopard to stop wearing his spots.

This is an acceptable reminder of how shitty everyone treats girls/women on the internet. I was worried that it was going to fall in to that clickbait category with the opening statement, but it's mostly a reasonable commentary using people's personal experiences as a guideline. My biggest complaint? That it doesn't take time elude to the fact that this is a problem on the entire internet. It's an anonymity problem and people are animals - it's not exclusively a game industry problem, women in the games industry are just giant targets, front and center in front of the anonymous animals that love trolling or destroying people either for fun or personal satisfaction. I don't think it's fair and I'm certainly not trying to excuse or diffuse the behavior, just as an outsider it seems slighlty less surprising.

And, while I don't doubt for a second that as far as game industry careerists go women have this problem x1000000 more than men, I'll bet I could find almost word for word some of the same super offensive quotes about rape / dead babies / racist shit in my personal xbl messages if I still had my account. And I didn't even play online that much.

Still, not the terrible pit of hell writing and destruction I expected based on people's derision of polygon. Not what I want to read in my free time either, but that's cool.

Article #3 - In the face of recent wins, Nintendo's lack of online functions is no longer forgivable

That title might be clickbait, not sure. The wording is just clever enough that every part of it can be argued (1. What recent wins? 2. Lack of online functions? There's plenty! 3. Is no longer forgivable? That seems harsh, it doesn't bother me etc etc etc)

Long story short, Nintendo still doesn't have a reasonable online id / digital content management system and it really, really should in 2014. This article seems to be a response to the weird new WiiU content transfer system which admittedly looks a little ridiculous and I can't think of a scenario where I would use it if I had one. It's hard for me to be mad at this article if only because I agree with it - it's not as overly harsh as the title implies, but reads more like a lamenting. It really is incomprehensible why Nintendo hasn't done any major overhaul in this arena. But in any event, the article is fine. Ben Kuchera wrote it and I think he's somebody?

Decent article, but also has been echoed by every wang on the internet for the past 10 years.

There was also an advertisement for 'Golf Management College' at the bottom of this page which got me to laugh.

Article #4 - Launching Civilization: Beyond Earth

First article about a game (I mean I guess article #1 was about a game? still not totally sure.). It's a big history lesson about Alpha Centauri and Civilization. Thought it would be interesting, but it's seriously like 20 pages long and contains factoids like 'Sid loves California Pizza Kitchen'. It ends up being sort of the story behind these game designers that are working on Beyond Earth I think. I had to skim the rest because I ain't got time for that.

For people that love the designers behind the games or learning about the history/process, probably a really good albeit reeeallly long winded read. Seriously long winded.

Article #5 - This is the most accurate Pokemon trailer you'll ever watch

I have a feeling this is going to be about twitch plays pokemon...

Nope! Phew! Article is short blurb about a shared video that's supposed to be I guess a realistic depiction of pokemon games. Harmless, but hardly worth clicking on. Didn't want to watch the video because pokemon.

Article #6 - Unforgiving, sophisticated and vast: Three deaths in The Long Dark

I like this article - a sort of first person narrative of what it's like to play this game (through the first three deaths) that's set in the canadian wilderness by someone who has apparently sunk hundreds (!) of hours in to DayZ. This game sounds like a first person Don't Starve which to me sounds like possibly the only thing that could be worse than Don't Starve, but the article is well done and made me interested. It's a nice way to expose something without doing one of those silly preview pieces that magazines tend to throw together with boilerplate text from the advertising branch of the developer.

tl;dr I don't get what's so awful about polygon other than they probably have more opinion pieces than other sites and maybe people aren't so in to that. Of course I didn't read any reviews to dig in to the bias thing because I don't care and for whatever reason it was infinitely difficult to even get this site to load the front page articles. So, not as bad as I expected from all the hubbub, but I don't think I'll make it part of my morning routine.
@pete, you're a cool ass dude, man. Appreciate you. Like seriously, thanks for that. My bad for going postal over the same shit.

I had to block the necessary individuals so hopefully that's the last of my "arguments" here. Lol, it's a bitch move but the trolling and endless antagonism is old.

Are you on PS4 or 3? I can't remember. As for the points he was referring to score in a competetive multiplayer match. Also, it was Topside.

I'd post The Aristocrats joke, but I'd probably get banned.  The South Park version is actually pretty good.

I am trying to kill my ps3 backlog before getting a ps4. And thank you with names, I need to quit saying people's names when trying to quote them cuz 90% of the time I say the wrong person. But going back and finding their message and quoting them is too much work.

Then his consensus favorite, Raging Bull, I just couldn't stand. It was so slow and boring to me. Wolf of Wall Street also falls into the "Terrible" category for me as it was so over-the-top and told such a shitty story.

And then there's The Departed. Man, what a great movie that could have been if it weren't for the massive plotholes and terrible ending! Why didn't they just end it the same way as Infernal Affairs?
Wolf of Wall Street I got 2 hours (!) into, realized there was another hour left (!!) and just gave up on. There's really nothing interesting about that story.

Departed spoilers
And The Departed ended almost exactly like the original except the Chinese Wahlberg doesn't kill Matt Damon at the end and he goes free. I can't even remember if there was a Chinese Wahlberg. (Chinese Wahlberg is the name of my band, btw.) Were there more changes that I'm forgetting?

You could try growing thicker skin?

I know a lot of people here said that they like Bioshock 2 more than Infinite, but with Irrational games out of the picture I am a lot less excited for the next Bioshock. I thought what made the first bioshock special was Rapture. I have yet to see another world that was as unique and especially when it came out (what 2007-2008?) it looked unbelievable. Going through Rapture the first time was an experience, going through a second time with Bioshock 2, it was just as beautiful, but there wasn't that initial thrill. Also, I still believe playing as a Big Daddy was a gimmick. I don't hate Bioshock 2, but it didn't do what Bioshock 1 or Infinite did for me. I mean seriously that Infinite story...Jesus Christ it was fantastic. I'll eventually get the next Bioshock, but they only way it would be a day one purchase for me is if it is on the PS Vita (Chamber.)

It seems like most all the good Vita sales were before I ever owned one or they go on sale after I already rented them.
I came close to buying KZ when it was on sale for $9 but I didn't have a vita yet and couldn't justify the purchase. Kicking myself now.

Has anyone got any PS3 Destiny codes left? A friend of mine asked me about one today and that was way too many days ago to go back and search for.
PM me if you're still looking for a code.

We should play some more Destiny beta together!

Ooh I'm a big film buff and am late to the convo. I miss old Johnny Depp in his Donnie Brasco and Blow days. Finding Neverland and Edward Scissorhands are also some of my favorites.

I recently rented that Scarlett Johansson movie Under the Skin. Avoid at all costs! I'm all into indie movies and games and artsy stuff, but that film was boring as fuck. It's like a reverse sexual predator movie where she's an alien. I could only take so much of seeing her drive around looking for men. What a waste.

On the other hand, The Raid 2 was badass just like the original. The guy who plays Rama is a beast. I loved the varied settings of fights in the sequel as opposed to the complex in the first. If you like martial arts movies, watch The Raid and its sequel.

Species? First thing I thought of when I saw the trailer.

I should see if this free Redbox rental code works for movies and rent The Raid 2.

Just realized that I wasn't able to save my BioShock 2 save from my old PS3 so I'll be starting fresh when we do the DLC this Sunday. I'm glad I remembered to rebirth before it died.

I'm definitely down. I dont know how late you'll be up but I have some things to take care of before hopping on. I'm off tomorrow though so I'll likely be around most of the night. Khris will be on in a bit as well.
Go ahead and add me for TLOU. Don't know how well our schedule will match up but we might be able to get some matches going sometime.
