 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Looks like RS is having a NISA sale. It is a little different from the usual sales with the prices being adjusted and no discount allowed. More expensive sets like Toradora and CCS are also excluded as well as preorders. Some decent prices on Hanasaku and Ichibros though.

I know I mentioned this elsewhere, but since it's relevant again.

I just picked up a $22 copy of the edited Sankarea limited edition because we don't know what kind of packaging Funimation will use in the future once they release the unedited version.  It may come out in just a regular blu ray case, or with art that I like less than the current one, or (shudder) they may only get the unedited rights on DVD.  This way, no matter what happens, I can take the unedited discs and put them in the old Limited edition cases once I get them.

I can always trade in or give away the edited version later on.

Daily Lives of High School Boys is finally at a reasonable price for me ($37.99), but Seasons 3 & 4 of Natsume's Book of Friends are still too high at $47.99 each. :headache:

Just an fyi for anyone interested in the Kimi ni Todoke bundle, the description says it's for the 3 PE sets, but it's actually not since they haven't had those in stock for awhile, and the individual sets in that sale are all of the regular editions that was released earlier this year, so just be careful not to be misled since Rightstuf gets super lazy sometimes and recycles bundle pages, but forget to actually change the details in them.

No Nyaruko?  Now what am I supposed to pair with the one Dark Horse Manga I hadn't preordered yet in order to get free shipping?

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but the limited number of items available and no membership discount really does make this a weekly special more than it does a Studio Sale.  I'm a bit disappointed RS.

They generally run these sales during the end of the year sales to get rid of remaining stock of some of their PEs.

If you notice on some of the bundle sets they only have a very limited amount of sets left even though the sale has barely even begun, so they are just doing some early fall cleaning.

The newer PEs would not be included in any of these sales, or at least not until the end of the year ones. ;P

Well you can't expect NIS to allow the membership discount on their stuff when already it's already a good discount(considering they rarely have sales). At least they allow their stuff to go on sale unlike AoA who never does.

And to be fair, even during these sales RS concurrently run with NIS site it is still a few bucks cheaper than NIS has them for on their site, and the regular prices are also usually a few bucks cheaper too. ^__^

There are several PE sets that have also gone up in price, so just fyi if anybody gets confused as the price changes within the past hour, and for those that may have ordered one of those sets you may also get an email that will reflect that change, or they may ask if you want to cancel it.

I don't think there's too many orders that have gone through yet, so they may just let it go for those early customers.

They actually raised the Natsume and Wagnaria complete bundles to more than what they are charging for the individual items combined.
They're trying to fix the prices right now.

Same thing happened to the Kimi ni Todoke set earlier too, but now it's fixed again.

It's like every time they fix one thing, something else goes wrong. @_@

^ Right Stuf always ships out stuff once it hits their warehouse unless they have some sort of restriction on breaking the street date.

I just talked to Rightstuf, and the prices that are up for the NISA sale now are the final prices.

They did indeed go in to make some adjustments to certain things, and they are now set until the end of the sale, barring certain things being sold out by then, and may default to a different price.

Hope DVDplanet feels the same way lol
DVDPlanet takes quite awhile, so just have patience.

They also only mail their smaller shipments in plastic mailers, without the bubble wrap, so just be aware that the condition you will receive it in may not always be "safe", in comparison to let's just Rightstuf's packaging.

My Deep Discount preorders the past year have all been shipped about 5 days before release, actually. That included Henneko and So I Can't Play H, and maybe some other stuff.

I finally watched the copy of Penguin Drum that I acquired over the holiday sales last year. Not bad, I rather liked it. It gets a bit surreal here and there, but I don't mind a little bit of that now and then. A decent series, and the animation was solid and consistent. I would recommend it to anyone with a taste for the strange. (and mildly melancholy)

Bottom line on the high-priced import set issue, if it doesn't get licensed for a U.S.-specific release, it is going to be pricey. There's no real recourse on that except to wait for it to be licensed, or cough up the extra dough for the import version. Those who want to acquire these special sets are the niche of the niche. If your wallet isn't fat enough for this action, just be patient, or find a streaming service that carries what you want.

That's another factor eating into commercial anime releases. Services like Crunchroll are becoming more popular and more accessible. As their libraries expand, they will be a more common means of watching a lot of this programming. I don't subscribe to any such services now, but I could see myself eventually signing up for one.

Speaking of Kenshin, I was floored to see that not only is the second movie already out, but the third movie just hit theaters in Japan. If they were as good as the first one was, I can't wait to see the other movies. It's crazy that the first movie hasn't even hit here yet (I grabbed the region free UK release).

Along with those am hoping someone brings over the Patlabor films eventually.

I think it's because they were filmed together since 2/3 are a "part 2" for the first movie. When they said both came out 2014 I was über stoked.

Got my AoT Pt. 2 w/box and Panty & Stocking shipment in today. I always use free shipping but props to RS for Double boxing it. Yo dawg, I heard you like boxes, etc.

I remember the 25 for $100 deals... or whatever it was, and I remember dropping $300 during one of said sales. The box was massive and I couldn't lift it.

I think I topped out at $200 for those... but one of my orders was nothing but art box + dvd 1 or 2 things lol
