also, in tlou I am currently:

riding a horse

and I can say that it has started getting better. I'm certainly past the halfway point now, right?
You do realize I have not played TLOU yet and despite your fancy spoiler tags, I still have to read everything you say? I am blaming you if the "experience" is ruined when I finally play it on PS4 in the next 2 years.

I don't know what's worse - the actual last of us game or asking people about it.

and sorry pharm, believe it or not I was actually surprised and a little tickled by that particular thing in the spoiler tags. maybe because it felt like the first little bit of fuck ing variety in the game besides:

pharm is a stinky buttface that also smells like butts and eats butts for lunch. butt sandwiches with some butt mayo on top and a nice butt cola to wash it down his stupid throat.

so hopefully I didn't ruin that little bit of enjoyment for you.

And Destructoid: http://www.destructoid.com/review-alien-isolation-281651.phtml

Therm might approve, since it was reviewed on PC. I wish they had said how it fared on consoles, though.
Other than talking about the graphics on the high-end settings being really nice, nothing about the review was PC-specific. There was no talk of performance, options, controls, etc.. It was all about the game content. With that in mind it's a very platform-agnostic look at the game.

I don't know that I'd say it's a particularly good review, though. I got to the verdict, which says this:

Impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding it back.
...what were the problems? I looked back through the review and unless I'm completely missing something these problems were never identified. What the hell is the point of doing that? :wall:

k if this damn girl gets around to sending her id to verify we should have a 5/6sum later tonight, the variable being if she brings her bf or not...

and im sending this risen 3 back to gamefly already, enough bad games.

Looks like IGN might be the outlier on this one: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/03/alien-isolation-review

The review sounds a bit harsh and overly critical if you ask me. I think I'll get Isolation once it drops to $20 at Gamefly. There's just too much for me to play right now between SoM, The Evil Within on 10/14, and my backlog.
Actually I just read it and the complaints sound pretty legitimate. The reviewer absolutely praised the base gameplay, but was criticizing things that sound to have been added just to lengthen the game, which usually doesn't work. The android fights in the middle of the game don't sound like they belong at all, and horror/suspense is really something that has a limited shelf-life; 15-20 hours of hiding over and over again from the same enemy would definitely get old. Some games definitely stick around way past what their gameplay supports, and it sounds like this may be one of them.

I don't know that I'd say the actual score they gave is particularly fair, though. 5.9 seems pretty low when the only real complaints are that the gameplay gets old and there's a weird FPS bit in the middle.

It's not really an explanation, but that statement is a blanket one that applies to their "Great" rating scores (8.0-8.9, IIRC), not necessarily one that can be directly linked to the game in question.

Why am I not surprised that the generally positive 8.5/10 Destructoid review annoys Therm while he has better things to say on the more negative 5.9/10 IGN review?

I thought both reviews were good, but also thought both verdicts were bad, actually. The Destructoid one for making reference to problems but not saying what they were, and the IGN one for giving a poorer score than their review content justified.

Actually, Destructoid did mention them:

As you may have heard, there are human enemies too. Thankfully these portions actually are few and far between and actually aren't that bad at all, even if they're nowhere near as entertaining as when the alien is on the prowl (though they aren't mutually exclusive). You do have a melee option (that will do absolute jack-all to the alien) to initiate some stealth kills, but again, you can sneak past most of these enemies just fine. They also never go overboard with this -- there are no "wave-based" forced killing spree sections like the new Tomb Raider and BioShock: Infinite.
There are a few frustrating sections though, mostly involving the presence of humans. Said frustration mostly stems from the no-nonsense save system, which only saves when you manually interact with a save point, littered randomly about the game's world. There are some sections that have very difficult stealth sections that are roughly five minutes long, and failure of any kind usually results in death. Old school PC gamers who remember titles that lacked a quicksave feature will likely be unfazed, but it's something to be aware of -- especially when the alien can always kill you instantly, leaving little margin for error.

...

Sadly, Survivor mode will only ship with one map, with the rest arriving as DLC. It's a shame because it showcases what makes the game so special so concisely, and it's the perfect thing to show someone in the dead of night in a dark room with headphones.

I like the Raid in Destiny. I had a good team for the most while and it showcases creativity from Bungie. But the bad apples on the fireteam were made apparent in the Two Relics/Final Boss part. It demands skill, and there is no room for error.

also if anyone was waiting, the two free vita themes went up on the store yesterday I think. it is actually nice to have things looking a little different.

I am surprised they had Ryan (IGN)  Review isolation... figured they might give it to someone else, but based on his review and the general good score, he is just not a fan of the Survival (no weapons) horror genre.  The other reviews definitely make you believe if you are a fan of that type of game you are going to love it

Actually, Destructoid did mention them:
Based on the phrasing of the article it's not even clear that those are the problems implied. The first was a comparison saying one part of the game wasn't as fun as another part of the game. The 2nd bolded section wasn't really negative so much as cautionary and letting people know there's a stealth section in the game with instant-fail options. Nothing bad was said about that, just that it was there. The third was just a comment saying that an extra mode the game comes with only comes with one map. Saying any of these are negative aspects of what's actually in the game is a bit of a stretch.

Honestly based on the review I think your earlier comment about the rating comment being generic based on the score is correct. It makes more sense though it's definitely a lazy approach to reviewing.

Who decided to have the destined 2014 World Series Champs Orioles game at noon today????

Also I'm rooting for the Nats so we have a Baltimore vs. DC World Series.

Since when does the word "frustrating" not carry negative connotations? :whistle2:k

Also, was that your first Destructoid review? http://www.destructoid.com/the-official-destructoid-review-guide-2011-203909.phtml

Jet Car Stunts is a pretty cool mobile game, hampered by the usual mobile controls, so I'm kind of interested in having this on Vita. Not sure I'd pay full price for it, though.

AC Liberation HD is $5 on XBL this week.  What the fuck?  I would have bought it for $5 last week if it was on sale for that price.  Screw you ubisoft!

As long as the Cardinals don't win anything I'll be happy. I fucking hate the Cardinals. Very much extremely so.

I guess I'm rooting for the Os because of the former Brewers hanging out over there, with KC next for the same reason.
Cardinals hate? Oh yeah, I can get behind that. I can't stand the Cardinals. After the Red Sox, they're my 2nd most hated team.

I was going to say it's a pretty lousy mobile game due to controls, but with real controls it might actually be enjoyable.

It sucked to watch, too.
I started the stream but I am not even sure I posted anything before shutting it back off. I dont have any interest in playing it, and apparently I have even less interest in watching.

Well that certainly sucks. I just finished playing it last night. It was not a bad game, but it was not great either. I did enjoy it more than AC3. I would be a lot happier if it was $5 instead of $10, but oh well.

Frustration is a natural part of dealing with challenge. It's only negative if the challenge is unfair or doesn't fit the same level of difficulty that the rest of the game carries. He didn't say anything that specified a game quality issue at that point, such as control issues or the scenario being unfair, so it's hard to consider it a game flaw. It's possible that the guy got frustrated because he sucked at that part of the game, but that doesn't imply the game itself is at fault. It could mean the game doesn't work well in that area, but not necessarily.

I'm sure I've looked at a Destructoid review once or twice before, but they don't even occur to me as a place to look for game reviews, so it's pretty atypical. And yeah, good link since it doesn't show that the text that accompanies the review score wasn't meant to imply problems with this specific review. I really think they should revise the text because saying the game has "a few problems holding it back" is a bit presumptuous for a generic review statement. What about games that have no problems, but just don't have a great enough experience to push it to a higher score? :whistle2:k

I really wish youd piss and moan about your raid some more.

Please.
I finally got up to level 26 this morning. Half way to 27. Once we hit 28 we can try to get 4 others together and give a Raid a try if you want. I bought the Red Death Pulse rifle this morning from Xur. Not sure if I like it or not. Probably too slow firing for me. It was 23 Strange coins. One of the pieces of armor he was offering was for a different class and the other was a helmet which had 2 less light then what I had. Yeah I know I can level it up but figured I also need a legendary or better primary gun to work towards the trophy of having all legendary or better gear. I also bought legendary gauntlets from the FWC faction. Wanted to see what Xur would offer before buying anything.

Did the daily story mission and got a purple leg armor engram. Of coarse it decrypted into leg armor for another class. I scrapped it and got an Ascendant Shard and something else.

Vig, how long should it take for my SoM reward zone points to show as pending?

I know it's a noob question, so I didn't want to go ask it over in the main thread, I figured I'd just ask it here.

sorry to be so crude, but let's fish can seriously suck my dick. don't anyone buy it ever. not even to spite me.
Here I thought you just made up the name of game and continued to review it over the course of a few days, imagine my surprise when I looked for it in the store and it actually came up!

Oh and up to Chapter 11 on Spec Ops.

I think were going to reach maximum  with this one.

Officially, I think they're supposed to show up within 15-20 days after you pick up the game or it ships, but sometimes they appear sooner.

Also Vig, please make Lego Marvel PS4 be $10 today on Gamefly.
Well, since you asked nicely...
