Fafsas rules fucked me up

My mom kicked me out when I was 18
I didn't want to go live with my husband (then boyfriend yet), so I decided to move in with my father. BIG MISTAKE (in ways I won't get into). But imagine my surprise when FAFSA told me my dad was loaded and so they were cutting off my aid. I had no idea he had money anywhere. And it didn't change the fact that my dad wouldn't pay for shit. So hence I got my aid cut off and stopped going to school, even though I moved in with my husband like 4 months later and hence income changed, they wouldn't let me revise or change the app :/
Well, damn. I'm sorry to hear that. Our situations were different but I still hated being beholden to my parents, especially since I decided to go out of state. I worked and got loans but if I had to do it over again I probably would have gone a cheaper route. Is what it is, though! Glad things worked out with you and your husband/kid. And if school is still what you eventually want, I hope it happens for you.

Ok. Sorry for the slightly depressing rant, everyone. Spelunky talk has put a big enough dark cloud over the thread as it is. :/

Yea it sucks... FASA has told me that my wife and I are completely responsible for her schooling with what little I make and her not making anything due to being in school... yet I still have my loans to pay and with that there is no way to pay for her without taking out a crap ton more loans... Completely broken!

I only needed like 3 more classes for an associates if I remember correctly

The part time job I have right now to help us out pays for their employees to go to school part time. I just keep forgetting to ask my gm how to do it

They're giving them a 5 hour window. How generous (they could be open for 72 hours in a 24 hour period, it's not going to help their sales).
I agree
I used to work at a radioshack when I was in school
We used to play with the toys and order pizza
No one ever came in so we could get away with this

Music discussion!

Jürg Frey & Radu Malfatti - ii  (Erstwhile, 2014) ***½

Clarinettist Jürg Frey and trombonist Radu Malfatti offer us an incredible treat in two discs of more than one hour each. The first disc consists solely of acoustic clarinet and trombone, yet anyone listening to the album without knowing this, will have a hard time telling which instruments offer us this long, almost monotonous piece of long, endlessly stretched tones, which shift in color, in interaction and layering. The result is quite exceptional, mesmerising, soothing and intense at the same time. And once in a while you hear the physical aspect of the playing, like a tong-slap on the clarinet, to emphasise the acoustic side of the sound. The second CD goes on in the same spirit of endless tones, built around silence, but now one that is intensified by ambient sounds of birds singing, or voices in the background, and the overall tonality is even less physical, more a shimmering of sound, deeper and even more fragile.

Okay, even I wouldn't listen to that.

It seems like every time I went into one to look for any clearanced video games, it was always empty except for the employees who would stare at me as if I was an outsider interrupting a meeting of the Morlocks. I always felt like I needed to hurry up and get the f out.

Sounds about right

My store also had a guy who would prank us and then post them on YouTube

I wonder if they're still on there

Should I cut my own hair or go get it cut professionally?

The only time I cut my own hair is when I buzz it off when it starts warming up in Texas. There's no way I would attempt to cut it otherwise unless I was going to grow a mullet since I wouldn't have to screw with the back.

With that said, if you do cut it yourself, we need before and after pictures.

Man the gamecube controller sucks.  Obviously it was the only choice on Brawl and the obvious choice on Melee (lol Nunchuck) but the WiiU Pro Controller must really be bad if you guys would rather play with the Gamecube one.

It's not that hard. Especially when I just do 1" on the top, and 1/2" on the rest.

Only difficulty I have is cutting around the ears.

I think you got those backwards--it was the only choice on Melee and the obvious choice on Brawl.

And no, it doesn't suck. I think the N64 controller (which I don't hate) is worse than the GC controller.

Never even held a pro controller, but I love the GC controller. Always did

Yeah I probably got them backwards. But it's clear what I meant.

I mean, the GC controller is the best controller Nintendo has that I've tried (like I said, haven't tried WiiU Pro controller) but I'd rank the DS2 and that remodeled original Xbox controller above it for sure.

Cutting your hair yourself is fine and all if you wanna save a few bucks, but you can't put a price on going to the hair cut place and receiving what my father lovingly refers to as the "tit in your ear."

As for the rest of the discussion:

  • Meatball at subway is not that bad.  Pretty much everything else there is though.  Meatball is all I ever order when I go there.
  • Someone said Jimmy Johns can be too bready.  This is definitely true.  But their bread is good and their meat has such better flavor than Subway.
  • That FAFSA regulation about claiming parents income until your 25 is really weird and seems outdated.  So many people are moving out of their house earlier and earlier.  Seems like if you file your own taxes, you really shouldn't have to claim parent's income on FAFSA.  That being said, my family was actually poor so I got a good amount of Pell and state grants for my undergrad degree.

Yeah happens at the dentist too. It's nice sometimes. I just went today to get a filling (feeling?) but alas the hygienist wasn't very endowed and I got nothin' except a sore tooth.

Going to the dentist for my 6 month teeth cleaning on Monday. I love going to the dentist.

Ya, benefit for you guys

Awkward for me

Although a female dentist is better than a male, that way it isn't so awkward when they accidentally brush your chest while cleaning
Oh honey, that was no "accident"

(the oh honey comes from an episode of how i met your mother)
