endergeek, lol, so i beat isaac with maggie and got 'cute baby' and im like what's that. and you get it for beating hard mode with maggie. wait hard mode? lol, iv been playing hard mode, maybe thats why it has been tougher. I just kept retrying not going back to main menu. fail.
Oh Velo, I'm so sorry. Hard mode makes it so that there are more champion enemies and less consumable drops, which can really mess up your run! But I'm sure you've experienced that by now ;) At least when you switch back to normal you will start breezing through!

and there's definitely not too many collectibles at all

Hey Zimm (or Gator or Topside), one of you mind helping me get those two online trophies in Disney Infinity? May go for the plat in it with my son once we've polished off LEGO Batman 2.

ok ok fine, the ac unity coop sucks.
Why do you say that? I haven't gotten around to trying it, but I suspect it is pretty lame with randoms, maybe semi fun with friends. And I'm with you about the too many collectibles/side quests. It's funny because I was reading IGNs review of Rogue and they complain about there being lots of side stuff, but not really a good reason to do any of it. I feel like that complaint is valid for pretty much every entry since Brotherhood. I can't say it bothers me much since I don't worry about 100% completion and am happy enough ignoring them, but I feel like they could use those resources to make a limited number of meaty/more substantial side stuff that is actually fun to play.

The reason to do the side stuff is because it's fun. :whistle2:k

I have snow today! I do!

Totally unrelated: When was this poll started? I didn't have snow that day. Am I supposed to change my vote every day as appropriate?

I preordered Far Cry 4 from Best Buy before heading to bed this morning, if only because I have hope that it will go on sale within 45 days and I can do a post-purchase price adjustment to make its net cost closer to $20 after factoring in GCU and the $10 in points for preordering.

Had a nice Spelunky run today:

Made it to the Temple and got double teamed by mummies.
I still can't beat the damn game.
I always feel like the mummies are taunting me when they are right where I need to go. It sounds like they're saying "hey bro" when they shoot bugs at you. Hey bro, you need to go here? Hey bro! Hey bro!

Apparently a patch for CoD: AW was released within the past day with one of the following fixes:

"Fixed rare save game issue affecting playthrough progression"

We'll just see about that when I try playing tonight. :twoguns:

Yeah I can help you out tonight. Be prepared for a grind to play though. I only have three left before I get it. All three "finish all the challenge levels in a play set on XX difficulty" ones.

Do you have to pay real money to open all those chests?
I haven't run in to whatever that real money stuff is yet, but it's probably wholly unnecessary. in a semi-unusual twist, it seems possible to get pretty much unlimited money right out of the gate just by picking up the theater early on, finishing the 5 missions + renovations and the other club houses. you end up getting some obscene amount of money every few minutes - I think my current income is like 15k every 12 minutes or something?

I would help, but I sold mine to a friend's daughter about a month ago. :(

Zimm and I did the online stuff a while back, it takes very little time to get those couple of trophies. Hopefully someone can help you out.

EDIT: I see Zimm offered to help, good job Zimm.

here's my list of problems with coop so far:
- 90% of people play without mics (not uncommon) and there's no non-mic way of communicating even though it seems communication is crucial for swift* success. a countdown/pointer system like portal 2 would help a lot.
- the missions seem designed to fuck you over if you're detected including most everyone having a pistol/rifle and being quick to use it (guns are nearly instadeath until the second health upgrade I think?)
- respawns take forever because of the shitty long ass load screens, but 9 times out of 10 no one will revive you because they're either in the middle of a fight (can't revive) or becase they're jaglords.
- unless you're pretty good, you'll have a tough time soloing these for trophies. you should be able to do the low level ones ok, and you can farm a couple for the non-lethal kills (you'll *never* get away with those with randoms)
- the missions are suuuuper boring and so far all of them seem the same both in terms of objectives and environment. so bland, makes me wonder what the motivation to include them was. I haven't really done any heists yet so maybe my mind will change.
- glitchy as hell in terms of matchups/starting missions, but that seemed a lot better this morning.

Overall I vastly prefer the competitive multiplayer to this coop stuff, but we'll see if it improves as time goes on.

* you can brute force your way through every non-heist mission it seems with no penalty for death other than being subjected to the horrid loading screen

$8200?  That's pretty good seeing as how I didn't play the game yesterday and haven't done today's daily challenge yet.

BTW, all the collectibles (except for one thing) in Rogue all build to other things. I'm not sure why somebody would say they don't.

  • Hunting: Used to craft upgrades for MC.
  • View Points: Used to expose other items and reveal the map. Gives trophy.
  • Treasure Chests: Used to get resources towards purchasing character/ship upgrades.
  • Animus Fragments: Used to unlock cheats. Allows access to a number of trophies.
  • Templar Keys: Used to unlock the Templar Armor.
  • Shanties: Unlocks songs for boat travel.
  • Blueprints: Allows for purchasing hidden Morrigan upgrades.
  • Totems: Used to unlock Native Armor
Really the only one that doesn't contribute to anything is the shanties. They're still good to collect, though, because clearing an area turns the area symbol blue so you know it's been completed. Without that you'd have to check every location summary if you're trying to figure out where you're missing something. You could potentially argue that treasure chests are similarly useless since they provide very little reward most of the time, but it still does give the cleared icon for the area as well.

I will say whaling in the game is stupid as shit, though. Whaling takes so long to bring down a single animal and you get so little from skinning. For example, to make Berserk Grenade Pouch 2, which holds five additional berserk grenades, you need to kill and skin two polar bares and 2 white whales. To illustrate:

2 of these:

Beluga-Whale-Saves-Diver-2.jpg

And 2 of these:

ursus-maritimus-tyrannicus2.jpg

Make one of these:

believe-fanny-pack.jpg

They really, really need to adjust the scale here. One white whale should give like 30 pieces of leather to work with.

I'm stuck at 78% in the Pico de Gallo area on Guacamelee. As far as I can tell, my entire map is filled out and matches those online. Anyone remember anything that they missed that was super hidden?

For those of you who (like me) enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy, Best Buy has their exclusive steelbook combo pack (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + Digital HD) up for preorder at $19.99, and you can get 100 bonus myBestBuy points if you preorder it this week: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/guardians-of-the-galaxy-steelbook3d-blu-rayblu-raydigital-copyonly--best-buy/8879005.p?id=3292601&skuId=8879005&ref=199&loc=FKSJxY2VJAk&acampID=1&siteID=FKSJxY2VJAk-inwyHDQ582Q26zZylRJxOQ
Thanks Vig! I have some extra gift cards so I preordered!!

Golds for $70. Wonder if BB or Amazon will match.

Tales of Xillia 2 at $20 as expected.

Might pick up SC2: Heart of the Swarm at $10.

Confirmed B2G1 for any used things under $20.

All in all a pretty weak sale. Not a single Vita game shown, either, though they did have the PS TV and 16GB card featured pretty large for some reason despite no games to go with them.

Lego Batman 3 update:  After playing free play for a while streaming and then going back to it some more last night, I was able to knock out all but 2 levels for free play.  The big difference for this game so far is that by the end of story mode you have almost every character you need for Free Play.  You need the Atom, Shazam, and Poison Ivy on top of the characters unlocked from story mode and that is it.  The first 2 are available in the first few levels of free play.  Poison Ivy is apparently gotten from one of the side quests in a hub.  She is only needed for 1 mini-kit in 1 level.  I will have to go back for it once I finally unlock her.  Luckily, this game also has the section select on free play.  So I will not have to play that entire level again and can just jump to the part where I am missing that one mini-kit after unlocking her.

I thought without a huge open world that the gold brick quests would likely be much smaller in number.  I was wrong.  I assume I will be close to 90 gold bricks between story mode and free play since I am at 78 now.  There are 250 gold bricks.  There are also 147 characters.  I forget the number I have unlocked now, but it is a good ways away from 100.  That means I still have a TON of stuff to do in the hubs to get to 100% between gold bricks and character tokens.  I will not be surprised if that ends up taking much longer than the complete story mode or free play mode runs did.

I suppose we shouldn't have expected $30 PS+, but no PS+ deals at all? Lame. GS even has the nerve to include PS+ in their BF ad, but for full price.

Yeah, GS did get stomped this year. Nothing at all appealing to be found except for maybe the B2G1. ToX2 at $20 is a decent price, but they'll have it there on PSN soon enough and then GS comes into play to drop it down to quite a bit less.

I remember the Used b2 g1 they always had around Christmas, I remember taking my Christmas money and going crazy on games for my Original Xbox when i got it.  Remember I bought KoToR, Crimson Skies, and a hockey game. :)

Speaking of plus discounts, while at target last night they had a buy one get one 25% percent off on plus.

Crap deal compared to 30, but only one Ive seen lately.

My shitty math comes up with 41.55 per year including the 5% off for red card.

It's sad that you say that. I remember when GS would have almost-monthly B2G1 sales where everything qualified...
Yep, this is the first time I recall a Black Friday one being limited. I know they have overall gone away from the B2G1 unless it was a previous console generation, or B2G1 under $20 has been more common. Up to about 2 years ago they had B2G1 at least once a quarter and there was no price limit on the games.

Maybe it was there and I missed it, but I did not notice the usual trade in percentage bonus stuff they usually run for BF as well.

Thanks, I'll try and get on tonight. I know I'd be able to squeeze it in sometime between 6 and 7 pm eastern, if you're able. You got kik? Gotta get mine set up.

Gamestop doesn't do those promotions anymore since they found people didn't really take advantage of them and decide to "increase" their generally terrible trade-in values by 20% to barely-less-terrible values. :headache:

Why am I not surprised? Reason #282901 why I am glad I am now a renter instead of a buy, play, and trade type.

It definitely sucks. The only things I trade in to Gamestop now are newer games with guaranteed TIVs (e.g., The Evil Within, Advanced Warfare unless Best Buy's $40+ value holds until I'm done with it).
