PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

I'm sure it'll do just fine. But selling a lot of systems is not something I see it doing. As for the Souls comparison, everything I've seen about this game looks even more niche than Demon's Souls already was, at least in NA. Don't get me wrong, I've got the game preordered and I hope it does well but I honestly don't see it vastly outselling The Order. I mean, it depends on how strong marketing is for each and how well they review.

It's a silly argument though for me as I'm looking forward to both games.
why do you think bloodborne is more niche? demons souls sold like 1.75 mill and the dark souls series like over a million each on ps3 as well. selling over 1 million =/= niche.

>2 mil sold in over 5 years is hardly setting the world on fire, it's really only good for a game of it's caliber.

I say Bloodborne seems more niche because it's less of the prototypical fantasy, is more dark and gory and actually gives off just a bit of a MH vibe. Which is all great for JP, but not so much for NA. I'm more than willing to say I most certainly could be wrong, but it's just what I think.

i didnt say 2 million was setting the world on fire. hell infamous 2 sold just as much as demons souls and i wouldnt consider infamous 2 niche at all.

a lot of people are excited about bloodborne but theres been some negativity towards the orders preview build. the order just seems like a game ill wait til its used at gamestop, buy it and plat it in 5 days, then return it.

I still have high hopes for The Order, I've read some positive impressions from people who played it at PSX. I have a feeling it will get dragged when it comes to reviews though for some reason.

And here's the offical boxart for Bloodborne. I like the old one better.

With the Plex app and possibly Vue, I may not have a need for my Xbox One other than exclusives.  Right now my Xbox get more time because of Plex and Directv, really hoping Sony doesn't screw the pricing on Vue up, would love for the PS4 to be my main device.

They sent out Vue beta invites to people in NYC but I didn't get one unfortunately. Happy to see that plex is available, now we just need that Twitch app.

Just got a PS4. No idea what games to get and missed out on Wolfenstein for $15 on amazon D: anyone got some suggestions as to whats got a lot of replay value right now? Thinking bout picking up Resogun for now while I wait for DQ Heroes.

That would be nice since twitch doesnt work for me in the web browser for some reason. I always get the not enough memory message when I try.

Resogun is really great I would recommend that. I would also check out games like towerfall ascension and PVZ garden warfare, lots of replay value in those games.

replay value is pretty subjective. one game ive put 100+ hours in is The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

If you like Contra, Metal Slug, Borderlands weapons, and tons of nods to other retro games then I would suggest Mercenary Kings, I easily put in 50+ hours and still fell short the Plat and the game is incredible fun.

Tell us what genres you like, and we can pull something out.

Man I'm starting to regret my xbox one purchase again. Think I can return it to best buy even though its been opened? Lol
Pretty sure anything purchased in November and December can be returned until the end of January, but if you got a stellar deal on it, might want to hold on to it. If it wasn't for the media features I would feel the same way, but I also think that the 3rd party exclusive war is just starting so it may be worth hanging on to it for that reason as well.

again? did you buy one before and sell it or is this the second round of regret on the same console? haha
I bought one at launch and regretted and traded it in for cost. Got it again to play sunset (got the white bundle for 337) beat it and got dead rising and now barely touch it. No idea what game ill even get next since nothing exclusive is announce in the next 6 months

This is why I talked myself outta buying an Xbone. It was very hard with all the crazy deals, but once I finished Sunset I knew it would just sit there since I'll get all my multiplats on the PS4 and Im not interested in any other exclusives that they have.

I dont really watch too much live TV so those extra features do nothing for me. Plus they put the disk on the left side of their game cases, thats reason enough.

Unless the color matters to you, sell it now.  The next major exclusive for Xbox 1 is Quantum Break and that doesnt even have a release date.  The next several months are going to be very slow.

Ori and the blind forest and cuphead look great, and come out early next year.

I agree, and we all know who has the deeper pockets.

Aside from Halo 5, their other big hit for fall 2015 are Tomb Raider and Scalebound so pretty mich
Their big releases for the Fall are Halo 5, Tomb Raider and Quantum Break. There might be even more unannounced games since there have been a lot of rumors circulating around a Gears of War collection (Even hinted by Phil Spencer).

I'm not sure what you're basing the fact that Microsoft will buy more exclusives on. It sounds like you think their line-up next year isn't very strong, but at least for the end of the year they'll match toe to toe with Sony fine.

Besides UC4 what does sony have planned for next fall? I cant think of anything. I do feel like MS will buy another third party game at some point.

Not really fair to say what's at the back end of 2015. I mean they announced lbp 3 at e3 and was out this holiday.

Microsoft and Nintendo do that as well.

Sony's current 2015 lineup is as followed. I'd say their early year is a lot stronger than Microsoft's and their Fall is looking pretty good although like Microsoft they don't have a lot of confirmed release dates.

#1 Uncharted 4. (Fall)

#2 Deep Down. (Who knows when)

#3 Until Dawn. (Summer/Fall)

#4 The Order 1886. (Spring)

#5 Bloodborne. (Spring)

#6 Tearaway Unfolded. (Probably Spring)

#7 No Man's Sky. (I assume Fall, but you never know)

#8 Ratchet and Clank Reboot. (Fall)

For comparison's sake Microsoft currently has 5 announced titles for 2015 and I expect they have a lot more unannounced titles like probably Forza 6. Also note I didn't list any Indie Games for either platform and they both have their fair share of great titles.

The problem with MS exclusive like Tomb Raider is that it is a game that will shop up on PS4 later on. Other MS exclusive like Dead Rising just show up on PC. Sony is funding games that other wise would not be made like SFV.

As for 2015, Sony got Bloodborne and The Order out before the end of March. Aside from some indie games MS got nothing out before the end of the March and likely nothing before summer unless Quantum Break sticks with its Q2 release date. Like you said there will be more announcement but early in the year there isn't much from MS.

Microsoft funded Sunset Overdrive which otherwise wouldn't have been made. Also there's very little chance Tomb Raider will come to PS4. You say Dead Rising 3 came to PC (Which is true), but I expect Tomb Raider will be like that and it'll remain a Xbox/PC exclusive.

I'm not sure why you used Dead Rising 3 as an example when it never came to PS4 (As of yet) and the same goes for Ryse.

Screamride comes out in March so don't act like nothing is releasing. Additionally Fable Legends might release in the Spring as well. Don't get me wrong. Sony's lineup is a lot stronger with Bloodborne/The Order, but Microsoft has some releases as well.

Tomb Raider is timed, but you have no idea if it'll come to the PS4. It may end up being like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse, and it'll just release on the PC.

That doesn't change what I stated. Insomniac wanted control over their IP and nobody else would give it to them other than Microsoft.

Fable Legends isn't a traditional Fable game so they may deviate from that release schedule. Especially since they have a lot coming out in Fall anyway.

Tomb raider is coming to PS4. If it was just coming to pc at a later date they would have just been up front about it.

They are just publishing it for one/360.

Why not just come out and say its full exclusive instead of all the vague answers? They had no problem saying Titanfall was never coming to the PS4. To me thats proof enough.

As someone who liked the 3 main series Fable games, yes I even liked Fable 3, Fable legends looks terrible and really is only a Fable game in name only.  I think it's going to flop harder than Fable: The Journey.

Here are gaf posts dedicated to next years upcoming games:

Xbox One

PS4

As for why the 3rd party exclusive war is coming, Phil was none too pleased with the Street Fighter get by Sony and had this to say: "Love the idea of game franchise bartering, I'll work on making amends for SF."  Funny that he has such a short memory and forgot that they fired the first shots with Rise of the Tomb Raider and to some extent Ryse, Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall, but nevertheless winter is coming.

You listed No Mans Sky :p

Because it isn't full exclusive. It'll be coming to PC, but they've been vague because they want people thinking it's only coming to the Xbox so it can be their big "Heavy hitter" title for the holiday's.

Thanks I couldn't find those posts when I tried searching for them. You not liking the appeal of Fable Legends doesn't really change the fact that it is indeed coming out. You can't just count it out as being an additional release just because you don't like it.

If I recall correctly (I'll find the article) Dead Rising 3 wouldn't have been made without Microsoft funding it and really I wouldn't be surprised at that fact since I don't think it was a particularly popular series or that it sold well. The same could be said about the creation of Ryse given how severe Crytek's financial state has been over the years.

You are right about Titanfall. They did lock that down, but I think the reason why Phil was more upset is because Street Fighter has been a long standing series with a lot of history behind it. While Microsoft did lock down Titanfall it was a new IP and it didn't have much going for it at the time of launch (And maybe it still doesn't).

You listed No Mans Sky :p

I listed No Man's Sky because despite being an Indie game I'd consider it...."Above" other Indie titles because Sony has been prominently featuring it and they have a lot riding on it being good.

So what, SE will probably publish the PS4 version.
Assuming there is one of course.

They could easily say its not coming to the PS4, but they wont cause it is.

Yeah I wasn't saying to exclude Fable Legends from the list war, there was just a lot of discussion on it prior to my post so thought I would give my opinion on the game.

Street Fighter is supposedly only happening thanks to funding by Sony, or at least that is what they are saying anyway.

And Tomb Raider has a much longer history for Sony so that cut was just as deep if not more so than the Street Fighter deal unless of course Rise of the Tomb Raider does eventually end up on the PS4, then not so much.

You can't say I'm wrong Pliskin. Sony obviously has a lot of faith in No Man's Sky since they've shown it off at every conference they've had in the last year. The game had a huge presence at PSX and they even had a live band for it.

Compare that to any other Indie game that is coming out on the PS4 and clearly it is being held on a higher pedestal.
