As much as I wish that first statement was the case or will be the case, its not. If they were all common then why is both wave 2 (minus Luigi/Zelda) and wave 3 pretty much sold out everywhere except GS. Little Mac is already rumored to be discontinued.

I dont really get the beanie baby references that you continue to throw out. You act as if the only reason the people here are buying them is b/c they think theyre gonna be worth thousands one day. I couldnt care less if they are worth something one day. I dont think anyone gives a shit about your economy lessons here, this isnt slickdeals...we arent all resellers.

Nope, not selling them and never plan on selling them.

EDIT: in fact its quite the opposite. Things like these and collectors editions, I actually hope that they ARENT worth anything...usually when they are, I tend to keep them sealed and store them away. These I am opening regardless for some reason, so I hope their value actually goes down lol. I buy stuff that I like, not to hoard b/c they have long term or even temporary value.

Ah, the beanies. that brings me back. My wife worked at a Hallmark store during that craze and they got a warning letter from corporate with their box of Princess Di bears. Apparently a Hallmark employee was setting up the bears when the store was overrun by a ravenous pack of 40-something housewives; and she was violently thrown into a glass display case.

I had every intention of collecting most of the amiibos. The only difference is before I planned to do it casually as I saw good deals on them because I didn't think they would reach this level of popularity, whereas now I'm preordering most of them and just looking for good deals on the side.

exactly cause with beanie baby it was already destined to be a bust cause i remember when every single store had them and amusement parks and even mcdonalds had them with happy meals which mean beanie babies were popular and in demand yes but also there were way way way over produced compared to what the amiibos are being produced so there no comparison. You can compare the hype of the two yes but the outcome no.

Except amiibos have a practical application and Nintendo is a strong and popular company and has consistently remained as such for decades, I wasn't going to get them, but I was conned into collecting a few because there are some characters I know I wanted at some point, but not being able to get them at all later because of them selling out makes me want them so I don't HAVE to spend over $30 to get them.

I got a Japanese marth because I like using him in smash and I know he's gonna have some kind of use in fire emblem x shin megami tensei, and there's the perks of having different little unlockables in other games.

I do agree that this is nothing like beanie babies for the people here, but it is like beanie babies for people that are buying marth for $100 hoping it will be worth $200+ someday. I'm pretty sure no one here has spent $100 on Marth...at least I hope not.

Finally got my CF order from TRU, in a huge box that could have easily held 4 of them. It was dented a little but otherwise fine.

...Now to figure out if I want to sell it for profit and pick up another one if/when they come back in-stock everywhere, or just open it now and use it.  :whistle2:k

They ship them out in boxes of 4 so that is likely what you got.

 
Wave 2 started showing up in my area's Walmarts, unfortunately just Zelda/Luigi.  This is the first round of wave 2s I've personally seen in store at Walmart (and previously showed up as "Not Available in Your Area" instead of Qty: 0).  Pit/Falcon/Mac/Diddy still show as "NA in your area."  It's a shame our late shipment didn't include Pit/Mac :(

Yeah I almost have a full set to display myself. I barely pulled the trigger on a Japanese Marth and WFT at amiami since I can't pay over MSRP on these things. i just hope we see better amiibo support in the future.

My 3 local Walmarts have yet to put any Wave 2 out yet.

 
Don't know why everyone uses beanie babies. This is much more cabbage patch kids, look it up, it's eerily similar right down to the accusations of an artificial shortage to boost popularity and demand for the stuff.

My 2 local are in the same boat. I talked with one's inventory manager a few days ago who's an old coworker of mine, and she was saying they were told they'd see wave 2 mid-December at her store, and they've just never actually received a shipment in from Nintendo.

I don't know the story at any other stores, but it looks like Walmart in general has been having a hard time getting wave 2 in-store.

Amiibo has been the greatest thing gaming wise for my 3 year old daughter. She loves sitting on my lap or with me on the couch and play games but even with CPU on level 1, she would just walk off stages when she'd play without my help. Now, she picks her Amiibo and joins my team in team battle and "fights" along side me and loves that her character is kicking butt.

My store was literally putting them on the shelves when I got there today. Only two of the 5 stores received them, though. A small sliver of hope that other Wave 2 figs will also make their way (albeit in their limited form) to store shelves.

 
Anyone ever seen an actual case of these? I'm surprised we don't see case breakdowns like action figures.

EDIT: Interesting. When you go to the Pit Amiibo page on Walmart it says this:

"Store information not available.
Please visit your local store to see if this item is in stock.

Hey everyone! I'm a long time lurker and I finally decided to sign up.  Quick question for you all.  Do you think they will be releasing a Dark Pit amiibo?  Dark Pit is my main in smash and I don't want to waste time hunting down Pit if they are going to eventually release a Dark Pit.

 
Looks like my re-canceled TRU orders are re-re-ordered, now show "item found in stock" and have a receive date of 1/9-1/14. But with everything from TRU now, I'll believe it when the Amiibo is in my hands.

they have stated plans for the entire smash roster so there is a very strong possibility that they will

 
So I had lady luck smile upon me the other day. I was expecting my Pit from a December preorder from TRU to come in the mail. What I got instead was my Pit and another duplicate Pit. I had only ordered one since I'm collecting them for fun. I have looked over everything and it was two boxes, both addressed to me, both with identical paperwork, confirmation numbers, order numbers, and all of that. My credit card also only has the one charge. I just thought that a store error in my favor doesn't happen too often, so I thought I would share with you guys.

From what people have reported here, they come in cases of 4, same figs in a box, so box of Luigis, box of Marios, etc

I hope so. Im a Kid Icarus fan so Pit was a must have for me...Dark Pit probably even more so.

Is Pit still rarer than cpt falcon? It's weird going by ebay prices because LM should be the rarest by far now but its still one of the cheapest of the rare amiibos.

Dude I'm already out of Pits man and like I said, unless you live in manhattan and relied on the Nintendo store I didn't take shit from you. The prices are genuinely amusing though just because if you take them as the perceived value of an item by the general public, a lot of them fly in the face of what people in the thread are assuming.

I'd love for them to fall to $11 too because then my thesis on the market was proven correct and I win.

Ditto for me. Was holding off thinking I could get some on sale, then everything went crazy and they were hard to get. Still kind of hoping wave 3 isn't the mess wave 2 was. Wave 1 was generally fine until ppl went crazy for WTF/villager/marth. But I'd seriously take that over wave 2's "oh sorry, everything is arriving at different places on different days in super limited stock and who knows when stores will actually get things in."

i read somewhere that Falcon had two production runs while Pit and Mac only had 1.

The impression I've gotten is that rarity goes:
Little Mac < Pit < Captain Falcon.

Not that I have been looking super hard since getting all three, but I've definitely noticed CF up on Amazon the most often, followed by Pit. And I've only seen Little Mac once since Christmas.
