Ok, weird thing. I ordered a some amiibos off bestbuy with the free 2 day shipping. One of them showed up when it was supposed to, but the rest got delayed a day. I wasn't worried though, a day is no big deal. Well, last night at 9 there's a ring on my doorbell. Turns out bestbuy sent someone to give me those figures from my local store as a "delivery guarantee". I told the guy dropping them off that I expected the shipped ones to show up the next day, and he just said "then here's some extra ones for free since we missed the guarantee date". I had no idea bestbuy even did anything like that...
How "local" is the store? Do you know if the worker actually worked at the retail store or maybe a warehouse worker?

The paperwork that came in the box he dropped off showed a store about 20 minutes away. I'm still kinda weirded out by it. My order status screen on bb.com looks weird too. I'll try to post a screenshot in a bit.

Just walked out of TRU (Framingham MA) with Zelda/Luigi @2 4 $22. They had pre-order cards for all of wave 3 at the electronics register.
Bowser, toon link, Dedededede, shiek on one card, Ike, mega man, sonic on another and separate lucario cards (more than 2 dozen of these)

went to BestBuy to pick up my deal of the day COD and figured I would check to see if they set aside Little Mac for the 19th and they wound up just letting me take it home already

What figures did you get for free?

Grabbed luigi and zelda at tru. Huge restock here. Everything but the rare 3. Tons of foxes, samus, and donkey. So I don't know how I much I buy into those becoming rare.

So is Diddy Kong a good find?  I picked one up for Christmas for my son at Best Buy today.  The guy in the games section said that was a popular character.

Returned Fox and Luigi. Cancelled some orders for Villager, Marth, WFT, Falcon, Pit, and Little Mac. Down to 66 amiibos.  :p

The preorder window came and went, they are sold out for now.
That's what I was thinking. It's been greyed out since last night.

If by "pre-order window" you mean 30 minutes at 4 AM in the morning, then yeah.

It's not sold out, Target hasn't put it up for pre-order officially. The breifs times it actually went on sale were either glitches or just mistakes in Target's system, because there's no way they completely sold out in 30 minutes at 4 AM.
I heard it was supposed to be available at 2:30 this morning but it never changed when I refreshed the page. I sure hope it was just a glitch.

I'm waiting to pre-order Rosalina as well. Will they allow us to pre-order two at a time?
I sure hope they do. I would like to have two of them.

My fiance linked this to me and I thought it'd be relevant to this thread.
That's awesome!!

Nintendo News on Twitter (not official) said Rosalina went up late last night about 11:13pm est, 7 minutes later they tweeted they were out. A couple people did say they got them. Not surebifb it was a glitch or they're just releasing a few at random times.

Pretty sure this is a marketing ploy to get more people to buy Rosalina.

Forgot to mention... The electronics guy at tru was unloading boxes of figures. I asked about little Mac and diddy. He said they got a few of each this morning but there was a guy that snatched all of them right at opening.

and you know what that guy is gonna do with those?

Instantly throw them up on eBay... goddamnit

I like how everyone is blaming Nintendo... Are they even directly manufacturing these? Whomever it is are the real people to blame, they're having serious production issues.

It'd be like blaming 2K because you can't find the Bioshock figure you want to buy.

Checked a bunch of stores(Target, TRU, BBY, GS) in SE MI and besides the massive amount of core characters the only new one they had was Zelda (each had 4-6). There was a scalpery looking guy at TRU hovering around the Amiibos fiddling around on his iphone mumbling, "Which one of these is the popular one?". Hope BBY has half a batch of wave 2 ready for tomorrow.

Diddy is a nice figure. I would also get Donkey Kong too, even though he is common he is one of the best looking amiibos and now you have a diddy and donkey kong pair.

Nintendo had 100% control over when they were released though. If they had production and distribution problems, they could have simply delayed launch or spread the waves out more. Nintendo also chose the manufacturer and how many of each they produced. As such, it would be more like blaming 2K because they didn't press enough copies of Bioshock to fulfill preorders.

How can you have 100% control over release if you don't have 100% control over whatever company is producing them?

I mean, things happen during production that can't be foreseen... A machine could break down, files could be destroyed/lost, vital employees can quit, a vendor of a certain type of material could have issues of their own and not deliver product to you on time. Sure, in a perfect world everything would go smoothly but sadly we don't live in one.

Besides, for all we know Nintendo commissioned a completely reputable company and then the bottom just fell out. Such things happen all the time around the Holidays to begin with.

It's silly to bitch and moan about having to wait an extra couple weeks to be able to buy some figures, and sillier still to blame Nintendo when it's more than likely a supplier of a supplier that is causing all the problems.

I was just able to place an in-store pickup order for Luigi at Target in Naperville, IL.  Had a few gift cards with a little left on them so it was only $3.45 out of pocket.  I'll cancel my Best Buy pre-order if all goes well.

That's your queue to put 12 Marios in your cart, retreat to a safe distance, and watch him buy the rest.

Humanity has landed a probe on a comet... but Nintendo and Target can't get their act together on a fucking amiibo pre-order.

Nintendo selected that supplier. If they had concerns, they could have hired a backup supplier to fill the gaps. For example, Sony and Microsoft have literally dozens of contractors for replication of games around the country. If one gets backed up, there is another that can step in. Nintendo could have taken some precautions in that direction as well. I'm not mad at Nintendo, but they are responsible entirely for the delays and poor supply chain management.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree, guy.

They could handle the PR a bit better, but that's about the only blame I'm willing to throw at them without knowing all the facts.

Yeah, but any long-time Nintendo fans in NA are probably used to this type of treatment -- its fairly normal from them. Its entirely possible that this was the desired intention all along -- I mean, if there was no shortage or discontinuation of the first 3 "rare" amiibo, then this thread wouldn't have 280+ pages and more hits than nearly every other "deal" thread out there (AWD excluded probably).

It seems like Nintendo is just pushing them out as they're made as fast as they can with only so many manufacturing lines available so they have to choose which will get more, done first, second runs, etc. Ya it's chaotic but I'm guessing they're trying to get as much out as quickly as they can before the holidays are over hence the butchered wave 2 release dates. That and it's Nintendo we're talking about.

Question, used the gyft $5 gift card for TRU that you get for using google checkout which expires on January 31 to purchase Sheik and Toon Link. Both of them come out February. Does TRU charge now or do they wait till they ship to charge gift cards and credit cards? Wouldn't want to lose that $5 gift card because they don't charge until they ship and it expires.

Just received an email from Best Buy that my In-store pick up for Little Mac tomorrow was canceled -_-. I just picked up Zelda and Diddy Kong yesterday. This was part of the Buy 2 Get 1 Free error too.

Also, many of the Chinese factories (if that's who is producing these) go on vacation shortly for over a month or so between January/February and stop orders near December/January, so that could also be part of the problem.

Just got the same email, calling BB now to find out what the heck is up. This is a few hours after I received my 'Order will be ready at store' email this morning.
Keep us updated. I want to see what they do for you, if anything. I placed an order the week of Thanksgiving, that Monday morning that the Best Buy deals went live for Elite & Elite Plus. Put my order in minutes after the early access went live and just last week they cancelled my $400 order. I ended up receiving $130 in coupons(13 emails with $10 each), but it didn't make up for the savings I missed out on. Also, I can only use 5 coupons per online transaction.
