It's actually not a bad deal if you have a Best Buy near a Gamestop. If you guys could drive 15 minutes for a free AAA title you know most of you would.
Yeah, but it's not exactly great, either. Gamers club Unlocked costs $100 for two years unless you managed to sign up under some sort of deal.
So, you need a $100 membership to spend $75 dollars to get Shadow of Mordor and $75 Gamestop Trade credit- and it's entirely possible to get that amount of trade in credit you ALSO need to pay $15 to have Power Up Rewards Pro.
If you already have those various memberships, it's not terrible. But I'd hate to chain myself to any one retailer that way, knowing that to just break even on that fee I need to purchase at least 8 full price releases in the next two years.
$100 buys a hell of a lot of bundles, and I can just wait for those AAA games to hit "Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits/Nintendo Select", be 75%+ plus off in a Steam sale, be in a Humble Bundle or end up being 3/$10 when Gamestop wants to clearance them in a couple years.
Being able to plant your feet firmly in both the worlds of the filthy and glorious lets you play the long game.
(I've got my near 1,500 game Steam backlog, 1,000+ console backlog, and a truly sickening backlog of handheld games when you add Android, Apple Store, Nintendo handhelds, Sony Handhelds and all of those other old handhelds.)
Yay long game!
