This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

See this POST for links to store sale pages, threads of interest and other tools to help you become a more informed PC game shopper.

So, instead of fleabaying my spare parts, I've decided to convert my HTPC into a controller friendly gaming HTPC. I know some of you are rocking a G3258, I was wondering what your experiences are with it. I'll probably throw in my 7870, so the CPU will bottleneck first, but I won't be playing anything too taxing. Maybe some Dark Souls or some racers, anything that I'd prefer using a controller/wheel with.
I have a G3258 in my main system and have it paired with a 7850. I quite like the pairing. (My HTPC, on the other hand, is an AMD A6 APU as that case won't take a full-height GPU, and getting a decent GPU that isn't full-height is really expensive.)

It took me a while to find a stable overclock, and eventually knocked it down from 4.4GHz to 4.3GHz to give a bit of safety (I didn't see what that extra 0.1GHz would achieve). I could probably go further but I didn't want to risk frying the chip - people have been running them pretty hard to get 4.6Ghz and upwards.
I got my G3258 relatively early, but I'm only running it at 4.4GHz. I had to pour a lot more power into it to get to 4.5, and felt more comfortable backing off to 4.4. I doubt I could do 4.6 or beyond at all.

Alternatively, in the thirty minutes to an hour it took to jump those hoops, I could have just stayed at work that same amount of time, earned overtime and had enough to buy the game and dinner and not have to worry about store credit as a form of currency. But, to each their own.
Well yeah but there are certain people here who jump through crazy hoops to get free Steam games anyway. Just look at the people in the playfire thread who play shitty games for several hours just to get $0.10 GMG credit.

I'll never understand those people. Playing games?? Da fuq is wrong with them

It's actually not a bad deal if you have a Best Buy near a Gamestop.  If you guys could drive 15 minutes for a free AAA title you know most of you would.

£5 for completing Murdered: Soul Suspect that I would've done anyway? Yeah, it was totally worth it at times.

But now it's pretty much worthless, due to coupons being limited and very small amount of rewards per game.

How the fuck do you people not own most of the Rockstar games? They've only gone on sale a million times
Cause most Rockstar games aren't all that great, plus have a bunch of extra annoying DRM to deal with.

On an actual game playing note:

A few hours into Deathtrap and I think it may be worth the ~$14 I spent on it while on sale and with a coupon. Good selection of towers/traps, the character has a decent selection of weapons/abilities, artwork/sound is all solid, and the maps are pretty varied and interesting. I think so far my only cons are that there is no mazing, and there isn't a ton of variation in enemies. A big pro is that you can respec all your abilities, so you can really min/max a level and try new things easily. Must buy at $15 for TD lovers, casual TD gamers $10.

Might I suggest alternate means of transport:

Yeah, even I have all of them. Except GTA 1 + 2 (yeah yeah you can get them for free elsewhere, I know) :whistle2:(

^_^ No worries. You can't trust price trackers entirely... they miss anything that was a coupon deal, in a Tony-bundle, or sometimes just plain miss stuff. You're better off saying "according to ITAD" if you haven't searched slickdiapers and reddit for past deals.
It feels like only yesterday that you were giving me the same talk. Though I remember it being more soul-shattering. :bouncy:

I can confirm Blackgate works fine. It just redeemed as "Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate HD Steam Store and Retail Key" in 'murica.
Can also confirm.

So I can buy these 3 games and activate them through steam in the U.S.?
Yes.

What do you think we are? Basement dwelling retail lovers?

its more than driving a few minutes for a AAA title. I'd give a AAA title to not have to deal with the employees in gamestop.
They awkwardly flirt with you too?

Yeah, but it's not exactly great, either. Gamers club Unlocked costs $100 for two years unless you managed to sign up under some sort of deal.

So, you need a $100 membership to spend $75 dollars to get Shadow of Mordor and $75 Gamestop Trade credit- and it's entirely possible to get that amount of trade in credit you ALSO need to pay $15 to have Power Up Rewards Pro.

If you already have those various memberships, it's not terrible. But I'd hate to chain myself to any one retailer that way, knowing that to just break even on that fee I need to purchase at least 8 full price releases in the next two years.

$100 buys a hell of a lot of bundles, and I can just wait for those AAA games to hit "Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits/Nintendo Select", be 75%+ plus off in a Steam sale, be in a Humble Bundle or end up being 3/$10 when Gamestop wants to clearance them in a couple years.

Being able to plant your feet firmly in both the worlds of the filthy and glorious lets you play the long game.
(I've got my near 1,500 game Steam backlog, 1,000+ console backlog, and a truly sickening backlog of handheld games when you add Android, Apple Store, Nintendo handhelds, Sony Handhelds and all of those other old handhelds.)

Yay long game!

1,000+ console backlog? How much space do you have in your house? Do you even have a system for them or just hunt around for a disc in a haystack?

Basements are nice for space that way.
Most are shelved by Alphabetically by format if they have good cases/instruction booklets. If they don't have them and are disk-based, they're sleeved up in disk binders alphabetically by format.
NES carts are shelved alphabetically in stacks. Other carts are stored in shoebox-sized tupperware boxes, labelled with their contents and then stacked in a shelving. Same for smaller carts from handheld systems.

Consoles themselves are on three large utility shelf units against the length of a wall, wired with switchboxes so that they can be operated across three tvs.

I still need to add the wet bar (right now it's just a shelf with some glasses and liquor bottles), and when I put that in, I'll probably also get some Ikea Detolf or other showcase-y type cases for game related stuff or toys-to-life stuff like Amiibos, Skylanders and Infinity.

Indie "programmers" have no idea how to code efficiently, who knew? The real tragedy is people that don't have 8 GBs of RAM in 2015. Even miserly cheapskates like Mooby paid GeekSquad to put 8GB ram in his PC.

I nominate you to host the first Steam CAG Thread meet up. Drabe will bring some growlers full of craft beer and Ashes will cook.

Hasn't he said this before?

You know, I'll actually believe it when I actually not see any Molyneux interviews about his games.
He said he'd stop talking to the press and then he conducted more interviews the same day. Peter is someone that likes to hear himself talk and then wants to play the victim. Stop making promises you obviously can't keep. :-({|= :-({|= :-({|=

4 ft bookcase, 12" deep... DVD cases are 10/linear foot. So 2-deep shelf can hold 80. ...would require 12.5 shelves. ... 8" high shelves... 12 shelves in 8' (floor-to-ceiling). ...Could be done with a pretty compact footprint...

I've never played a LEGO game or read/seen Hairy Potter. I'm not a Batman or Marvel fan. But with the amount that you people babble about it, I'm tempted.

Edit: Bought. Damn you people.

Edit2: Personally confirmed. Individual keys. All redeemed just fine in 'murica.

I have a 12' x 9' shelf... It's somewhere in the "show us your collection" thread on CAG.
