Man, people who said that FC4 was just like FC3 weren't exaggerating.  On one hand, there's the "But I liked FC3" thought which is true and I started playing because I was watching my kid play FC3 and wanted to get back in on the fun.  On the other hand, for as distinct as the previous Far Cry games were from one another I do think there's a fair criticism in them doing the same thing twice.  Sort of like the last couple iterations of Saints Row.  Fun, but oh so very safe.

fc4 is basically an expansion pack for fc3

So, these terms fakeybro and lateybro... any particular reason for using the jargon? It is code for doing something unethical to acquire a game, hence the need to conceal it? Or just some sort of 'leetsteemer' portmanteau?

Today is the first time I've encountered either term on CAG, so curious as to whether there's an infestation of SD members or something similar...
We answered the fakeybro question yesterday! :)

Well, I only just started FC3 - so I by CAG math it'll probably be over 3 years before I possibly buy an start to FC4.. so hopefully I'll still have fun with it at that point. I now see what everyone has been saying since the FC4 release trailer (about how similar it appears to 3) now that I am actually playing FC3.

Ubisoft does, more often than not, seem to take the safe route though - re-release the same game in ever-so-slightly different settings 2 or 3 times a year (I'm looking at you assassin's creed). :fist-shake:

I'd love to see them (and other publishers) take more risks, but as long as we keep buying them, they'll keep churning them out.

if it takes you three years to finish fc3 for whatever reason, you might as well get fc5 or fc6 by then, and skip fc4.

I saw this in another CAG thread and just had to repost it here for laughs...

On the topic of Limbo for $1...

I first bought it on the 360 for $15, and while I thought it was excellent, it was a little short, and a little over priced. $10 would have been perfect, but who am I to say what a developer puts in to such titles, so I was OK with it at the end of the day.

Then it was released on PSN, and when it went on sale I grabbed it again for my Vita. I'm very tempted to buy it again for my Shield, as .99 is just crazy. Do yourself a favor and grab it, there is no way you'll be disappointed at this price. $5 was great, but $1 is even better. LOL

It's not going to take me anywhere near that long. I am saying that it took me 3 years from it's release to even start FC3 so it's going to be a while before I start 4.

that is why i type for whatever reason. there is bound to better improvement, and signifcant improvement in later iteration of the far cry series in 5-6 in 3 years. fc4 is basically an expansion pack, and forgettable. plus the far cry series storyline does not connect with one another. so there is no need to play them in order.

limbo is a horrible example, game looks like an ios/android game. highly doubt the pc graphics will help improve much.

I just don't think I can get on board long term for something I already know can never have a satisfying conclusion to the narrative. Not for such a heavily story based game anyhow.
Neverending stream of people dying and depressing stuff? Sounds like what happened to the show.
Heh true. It's interesting to see the different reactions to the game. It IS a very heavy game at times. I'm not sure why it resonates with me so much as I'm generally a big weenie when it comes to horror. I like reading it, though I like very few horror movies -- and hate the gore movies. I'm also not a very dark person, but I do like the game and the series.

I will say, however, that the inclusion of a child in both seasons really hit home with me. Having to protect a child is something that I think most people are very instinctively passionate about, and having to play the game as one leaves you incredibly vulnerable, but also allows you to be viewed completely different than an adult. I liked that part a lot.

Well the show doesn't (spoiler stuff)
Yeah, both of those things were tough. I do appreciate that the game forces you to participate in order to feel the anguish in the acts. Not many games do that and it's something that movies and books -- being non-interactive -- just can't really do at all.

I'll just say I've played each and every FarCry before 3 (including all the console "spinoffs")and as long as I keep having fun I'll continue in order. Thanks though.

i just played fc1 and fc2 on consoles, before i built my pc. when gamestop has sales on pre-owned copies, and i couldn't get through them. fc3 was much better, but i still labored through the later missions trying to finish the whole game, basically the single player campaign storyline

Sounds like the Far Cry series (as a whole) might not be for you. I've recently realized that Assassin's Creed is not a series for me (despite liking AC2 - and even though I liked what I played of Black Flag I just don't have the energy to continue it).

i see you two are buddy-buddy, so it is pointless of me going back and forth. lets just leave it at this, you win? happy?
Just auto ignore asscat person, they don't do anything but image shit in every PC thread. Or a better solution, IMO, just use an image block tool to create a rule and block all the images. Also, disable sigs. Those 2 minor tweaks make CAG tolerable so you can quickly skim for the rare deal that's posted.

She's kind of a badass in the second season though. You pretty much forget she's a kid most times. They did a good job of making her grow up fast, even if it came at the cost of making mostly everyone else look stupid in comparison.

The 'On the Rails'ness of the game kind of bugs me too though. I feel like I didn't notice it quite as much in the first season but in the second for whatever reason it was like seeing the strings that were pulling the marionettes and I kind of checked out on the decisions because I knew every time there was a chance that decided if someone lived or died they were just going to die eventually anyway because Telltale doesn't want to deal with a ton of continually branching paths where character X may or may not be alive long term.

I'm still trying to forget dealing with the Jones on Fire dev and that just reminded me.

I really liked Far Cry 1; liked Far Cry 2 (even though I was disappointed with it); had an absolute blast w/ Far Cry 3; and loved Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

I'm sure I'll eventually get to Far Cry 4, since I do have it.

i already know those things, i have been on cag long enough. i am also old enough to know better, by not going back and forth with preadolescent teens. especially in a clique setting like this. it is clearly a no-win situation for me.

All of these games in a series that want to come out not too long after and do these stand-alone type of "expansion-quels" (expansion-sequels hybrids) where they more or less use the same engine; tweak some gameplay & engine graphics features things a bit; and just throw it tons of content to make it feel like another full-blown game (i.e. think FO3 to NV; FC3 to FC4; AC2 to ACB to ACR; SR3 to SR4 to SR: Gat out of Hell; and most COD yearly iterations)...

...I think it's best to not play any of these games close to each other. Make sure, you take a long break away from them - or else you'll feel like you're playing almost the same game over + over again - even if the setting + window-dressing might be a bit different. Sure, they can pump out these games yearly and make them quickly brick down in price - I'll buy 'em when they get cheap and play them whenever I feel like getting to them. It could be numerous months from now or years from now, when I do - either way, better chance it'll feel like "Oh, it's nice to be back playing [insert series]" than saying "Dammit, didn't I just play this game already?"

Omg I hate it when I have to lash out at people to feel important and accepted.

RE: Far Cry

You all need to play Vengeance. It's easily the best FC game out there.

i agree, i wish game companies would try to follow rockstars format with gta v, release the next game/ sequel 5 yrs after the previous one.

I think FC3 is the best of the FC3 base-games, granted I ain't played FC4 yet. Anyways, this was a game that I could play a few hours for to do some main quests, do some side-quests - and then ditch the game for a bit b/c it could get that "more of the same" feeling after a good 5-10 hours or so. Then, after playing something else for a while - when the FC3 bug hits you, go back and have fun.

B/c FC3 is so open, can be kind of repetitive after a bunch of hours, and has so much to do - it suffers from Skyrim syndrome + TDU2 syndrome - that's for better and for worse, basically. Good thing is - well, since story + character development isn't the focus here, it's a very easy game to pick-up and drop at anytime. It's not like FC3 is a BioWare game and it's in your best interest to get sucked into the story + character development for a good 50-100 hours w/out playing anything else, just to stay afloat on those things.

Yeah totally, Rockstar is like the best company ever. Acting thug never gets old. They totally didn't come out with DLC or Chinatown Wars in between IV and V, either.

Wait, console peasants finally figured out how to use the "like" feature? Damn, next they'll be voting and using our toilets.

if you are directing the post at me, i don't need to be accepted or feel important. the only reason i am even here. i just recently build my pc, so i am looking for gaming pc deals. otherwise, i wouldn't even post here.

i have never purchase any dlc for games, because i know a complete edition is bound to be release. so i wait. otherwise, i just finish the main story missions in the campaign, and move on to a different game, without ever purchasing any dlc. unless the dlcs are free

I think that is one of the things I like about Rockstar's GTA format + Elder Scrolls format - every 4-7 years or so, we get another one. It can wind-up being "more of the same" - but b/c it's been so damn long, we are glad to really be back playing the game series. I'm sure it's one of the reasons we're all over here really pining for a Fallout 4 from BethSoft - b/c it's been so damn long since the last FO games (FO:NV from Obsidian; and BethSoft's last FO game was FO3).

I have no problem w/ these expansion-quels or whatever we wanna call them. We just, as CAG's + as heavy game-consumers, have to know better and not fall into the hype and not buy this stuff ASAP at full-price or close to it, when they pump 'em out so quickly - b/c normally, that's when major disappointment hits. These developers have publishers and $$ to answer to - and if they wanna re-hash some things + toss in some things, let 'em. We just, as consumers, need to know better and when to buy - we need to let the reviews come out; read them; let those who want to Pre-Order be paying Beta-Testers and throw out their opinions. And since this is the PC side of things where digital distribution rules + everybody distributor seems to want to compete (i.e. GMG, Gamersgate, Steam, maybe Amazon DVG when they decide to show up, etc), we can get games cheap in relatively short-time periods.
