i have never purchase any dlc for games, because i know a complete edition is bound to be release.
Problem is - eh, not always.

Here's a few games currently that do not have Complete Editions on the PC:

Borderlands 2 + BL: The Pre-Sequel; The Sims 3; Mass Effect 2 + 3; and Dragon Age 2.

so i wait. otherwise, i just finish the main story missions in the campaign, and move on to a different game, without ever purchasing any dlc. unless the dlcs are free
I think the best strategy is to pay attention to the companies + how they operate. Watch what they do + their history. EA, in generals, has been doing less Complete Ed's. BioWare of late + now GearBox really seem to not be intent on Complete Editions - since they know they can soak gamers w/ Premium DLC Pricing schemes.

Sometimes, it's best just to "Buy what seems necessary to you, when the price + time is right for you."

I think FC3 is the best of the FC3 base-games, granted I ain't played FC4 yet. Anyways, this was a game that I could play a few hours for to do some main quests, do some side-quests - and then ditch the game for a bit b/c it could get that "more of the same" feeling after a good 5-10 hours or so. Then, after playing something else for a while - when the FC3 bug hits you, go back and have fun.

B/c FC3 is so open, can be kind of repetitive after a bunch of hours, and has so much to do - it suffers from Skyrim syndrome + TDU2 syndrome - that's for better and for worse, basically. Good thing is - well, since story + character development isn't the focus here, it's a very easy game to pick-up and drop at anytime. It's not like FC3 is a BioWare game and it's in your best interest to get sucked into the story + character development for a good 50-100 hours w/out playing anything else, just to stay afloat on those things.
the reason fc3 feels repetitive isn't so much because it's open and there's "a lot to do" as it is because ubisoft makes the mistake of thinking that stuffing activities into a game makes it feel full/that there's a lot of things to do in the world. Outside of the main story missions (which were pretty great), there were like 5 or 6 other activities or something like that (outposts, the driving missions, hunting, rakkat warrior training whatevers) and then a bunch of collectibles. That's my biggest complaint about fc3, and most ubisoft open world games in general. Their side mission approach is generally: go to map marker, accept mission, drive here/kill single animal/complete challenge where you kill 15 rakkat warriors with a knife in 30 seconds. Oh you completed the mission? There are 20 identical ones throughout the map, have fun.

Contrast that with an elder scrolls game where the majority of the side quest are actually side quests, where a character gives it to you, you explore a dungeon/whatnot. It's a little more involved generally than "go to this open field and kill this tiger with a bow." I really liked the outpost missions in FC3 but the rest was really ehh. People complain about the radiant quests in skyrim and how dull they are, but that's the quality of nearly every piece of optional content in FC3.

There are too many useless things to collect in the open world. Graphically, the game was kind of a mixed bag, as some parts of it looked fantastic but then other parts were dull. Just Cause 2 has ruined other open world games for me, to an extent, as the grappling hook provides such a high level of interactivity with the massive world. The clouds in Just Cause 2 are amazing, especially in comparison to the static clouds in Far Cry 3.

but aren't goty edition basically equivalent to complete editions? i should of been more clear, i was referring to consoles.

some games i know, i mostly likely do not have much interest in the first place. no matter how cheap it is. like the might and magic hd game posted earlier for $3.75. i would not even pay one penny for it. the one way i will ever play that game is, if it free.

Yeah, I think both FC2 + FC3 did most of their best work in the main quest. Though, it was the missions that were awesome; not really the storytelling + character develepment. Side-stuff ain't always required, so you can skip some of it. But, yeah - it's a nice diversion to do some here + there; and you might want to do some of it to just grind a bit + improve some equipment. Just, don't grind too damn much at once - b/c doing that, ain't always fun; especially if it becomes more of a chore. That's when it's time, to do something else.

Elder Scrolls games actually do their best stuff in Faction Quest Lines (Dark Brotherhood, any of the Guilds, etc). Often, after doing some game-world exploring, a Faction Quest-Line, and maybe some Radiant quests - I felt done w/ Skyrim for a time period. Often, after 10-20 hours of Skyrim w/out playing something else - I'm looking to take a Skyrim break, play something else, then maybe later (maybe weeks or months), I'd head back to Skyrim.

I often do feel that any game, once you play it for say 10 hours or so, you'll be looking to want to do something else. If you have that feeling where "I need a break from this game" and the game seems easy enough to just drop + come back at a later said date (i.e. the story + character development isn't anything spectacular) - I say "Do it", before the game gets too repetitive.

I have no problem w/ these expansion-quels or whatever we wanna call them. We just, as CAG's + as heavy game-consumers, have to know better and not fall into the hype and not buy this stuff ASAP at full-price or close to it, when they pump 'em out so quickly - b/c normally, that's when major disappointment hits. These developers have publishers and $$ to answer to - and if they wanna re-hash some things + toss in some things, let 'em. We just, as consumers, need to know better and when to buy - we need to let the reviews come out; read them; let those who want to Pre-Order be paying Beta-Testers and throw out their opinions. And since this is the PC side of things where digital distribution rules + everybody distributor seems to want to compete (i.e. GMG, Gamersgate, Steam, maybe Amazon DVG when they decide to show up, etc), we can get games cheap in relatively short-time periods.
that is why i never felt early access or kickstars are worth investing. you are basically contributing funds into empty promises, that may or may not end up being worthwhile in the long terms. like some of many of these dayz zombie surivial clone early access games, i see on steam.

FC4 does expand on the formula a bit such as the outposts you free can get counter-attacked, you get a 'clean' kill for double pelts with a bow (and no useful pelts for killing a dog with a .50cal machine gun), rescuing those little prisoner trains along the road now gets you karma, etc. So, on paper, it's probably the "best" game on a FC3 platform. But if you've played FC3 you mainly spend a lot of time thinking "Wow, this is a lot like FC3". I was just a little surprised, even though forewarned, since the previous games were all so distinct from one another.

That said, it's a sweet looking game and fun to play if you liked FC3. I don't have complaints about the game itself as a standalone product. There IS a lot to do and a lot of it is more active than "find 50 letters" but that whole thing goes back to the "Just because it's a world of things to do doesn't mean you have to do everything in the world" philosophy.

From a consumer perspective - I see Kickstarting a game as not much different than pre-ordering a game from a AAA publisher. Empty promises are possible + expected, as you are investing $ in a product that isn't done and nobody else has seen completely to fruition yet.

While I understand gamers want type of games Kickstarted b/c publishers might not always Greenlight certain types of games and Kickstarting can cause developers to listen to the funding-crowd for ideas more so than publishers - I'd rather have a so-called "finished product" first out there in the wild (i.e at least Version 1.0).

A lot of times, buying early can turn out to be a Fool's Game and you're better off waiting for more patches behind it; price-drops to hit; and maybe some Re-released Edition w/ more content out there, so you ain't feeling burned or disappointed. It's easier to be disappointed when you drop full MSRP or close to it; or invest in a pre-ordering and/or Kickstarting game more so than say buying a game cheap later at $10 or so.

limbo is a horrible example, game looks like an ios/android game. highly doubt the pc graphics will help improve much.
I think it looks a bit better than that, but yeah, there's probably very little graphical difference between 360/Vita/PC on that one. I've only played it on 360 (though I own it on PC, obviously) so I don't know for sure though.

but aren't the money you contribute to kickstars, non-refundable? unless the developers willing to give you back the money

I'm sure I'll dig FC4, given how I really dug FC3 base-game + Blood Dragon.

But yeah, b/c FC4 looks so big and there's so much to do - like AC games, FC2+3, The Saboteur, and many other huge open-world games - there's no way in Hell I'm going to hit 100% this entirely or even get remotely close to it. Who knows if I'll hit 50%, given how I play those titles.

I'd expect something more AAA like Ryse, AC Unity, Thief 2014, The Evil Within, Dying Light, and things like that to looks tons better on PC (especially when you have the hardware) than opposed to their console-counterparts when it comes to graphical bells + whistles (Tesselattion; any forms of AO, AA, AF; etc); possible higher-resolution + higher-texture support; SweetENB and other injectors; NVidia or AMD control panel settings you can mess with to enhance a game; any other 3rd party program you can use to enhance a game; GeDoSaTo to force downsampling + to force higher-res's on certain games; etc etc - especially when opposed to an Indie.

If Tebow stopped spansking it for wrestling divas, none of this would've happened!

Mooby is the one who hates everything but doesn't care enough to vocalize it.

Bruticis is the one that buys mulatto babies at the toy store, dresses them up as Obama and uses them for target practice.

You suckers were all making CAG popular so the rest of us could pop up when it went all Facebook and steal all the glory.

And you know what? No regrets. None.

Except Krater. I regret that.

Sorta kinda sorta. But the difference is AAAs are still somewhat accountable. I mean they might half ass the hell out of it don't get me wrong, but you'll get something. If you Kickstart with some Jane or Joe Schmoe they could disappear quietly into the night or say 'Sorry I ran out of money. Peace Out' or not release because the Sun is angry at them for revealing its secrets or whatever. And there's not much you can do. It's not like they really have a good name to ruin to begin with.

Jeez, you guys have been busy.

i don't blame those jane or joe schmoe, who use kickstarter, and scam people. if i didn't have a conscience. i will do it too. just look over at steam, all those early access games that looks trash people willing donate money too.

Hey guys, let's not become the PSN thread.

Not every newbie or console convert or new to us poster is a troll.
But at the same time they need to not come here and be all Internetz Sirius Bidness either.

People here mostly talk tongue in cheek. So maybe the posts are silly or snarky or stirring shit up or whatever but just roll with it. They don't need to get all offended like either and answer everything back with the utmost sincerity.

This too.

New people, please realize most of us are a sarcastic bunch and we're not really that serious about everything.

Let's meet in the middle.

Not to belabor the point, but yes, getting an avatar is actually a helpful thing here as it helps people recognize you. If you don't want or feel like finding one, hold a contest and give some sort of bundle game as the prize. Might get an entry you really like.

Oh, and if you are just getting into PC gaming, I am sorry, cause the past few month have seen some pretty decent publisher bundles that would have been an excellent start to your collection.

There's a Sega one now but it's expensive and pretty eh. There's no DLC in it at all unless you count all that cheap emulator crap.

In my day (2011) the publisher packs had DLC and we played games for stupid summer camp prizes and we liked it! :oldman:

thanks, but i am not going to conform. i know about those bundles, but a lot of those games looks poor, and old graphics. even if they are $2-$5. i did not build a pc to play those games. it is a waste to use it on those games.

Look, we build monster machines and then use them to idle for cards. You're no better than anyone here. :p
