This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

Having just caught up with The Drama, I must say I expected a lot more than a two-page thread about a poor deal with people seemingly looking for a fight.

Although I do like the idea that this thread is "Holy".

Some of us do occasionally act like a bunch of persecuted white christians.

In actual Steam discussion, any Elite Dangerous people out there? Tried checking the Steam community for info and that's just the default sky-is-falling headless chickens squawking. My knowledge of that game is limited to "it's not Star Citizen," which I haven't played anyway.

edit: it's not on sale, just planning ahead for future impulse purchases

I'm sure part of the somewhat heavy-handed response was because the moderation already disliked this thread and we were talking shit about them for so long. Which is not okay.

I love how you apologize for everyone's BS.

He did EXACTLY what they were making a big stink about in the other thread. When I said there was a Steam thread they got on some high horse of how they don't want to use it and there should be separate threads for PC deals (even though I got the feeling none of them actually CARED about the deal). I pointed out the reason we have the combined thread in the first place (I know this was before your time back when you were a console person) is because people complained we were 'spamming'. They still dug in their heels about separate threads and weren't phased.

So yes Sweetja tried to prove a point but he did it with LEGITIMATE DEALS. And basically his point is proven. That the mods do whatever the hell they want without any consistency and just pander to whoever complains which happens that a lot of people around here don't like us and like to complain on us.

If you think that is okay then I don't know what the hell is wrong with you.

Oh and PS some of my posts got deleted too but I'm sure you think that's totally okay.

I've heard plenty of good things (I think Yahtzee liked it?) so it's pretty high on my wishlist. I know Star Citizen will probably be better but that's not due for release for another million years.

I suspect I'll grab it at 50% off or better. Pretty excited about this one.

Honestly, I think it's sort of bullshit that we sit in constant fear of moderation. If I wanted just deals & bundles I could just hit up Reddit/Slick Deals and go on with my day. I come back here for the community chat, and I do my damndest to contribute because of it. If shit gets tighter because of what FC/Sweet did, I don't really see much of a point to keep coming back. There's hundreds of other sites that provide CAG's basic purpose.

While I think some of the mod behavior is sometimes excessive, really if everybody ignores it and just posts as normal ib here without doing anything a tad excessive to make a point like last night we'll be fine. Every now and then a mod comes in and is like "yo stay on topic" everyone freaks out and nothing happens. We had a mod come in and even say "we would prefer on topic but won't enforce it." I think its stupid that people bothered to make that other thread but it's whatever. I'm happy with having this thread to goof around and chat in, don't need acceptance from mods or whatever.

But since I tend to ignore other threads on this forum it doesn't affect me.  Let those idiots be those idiots... and us idiots be us idiots.  Just keep the nazi's outta my forum.  I can't stand reading stuff and missing part of the conversation because I didn't read it before Sgt Schultz came in and deleted stuff randomly to "clean up".

Especially when the "deals" are  fuck and anyone with any sense realizes it.

I get what you are saying but at the same time when I mentioned there was a Steam thread those people in that other thread, who probably don't even give a frak about PC games, made this huge stink about how they shouldn't have to use it and people should be able to post separate PC threads. And then when someone did, and no matter what anyone says the deals were legitimate AND better than the Dirt 20% off thread which got to stay, then suddenly those same people didn't like it and it was spam.

I mean I can see the whole point of just stay in our little ghetto and don't poke the bear and be happy with what we have and all that, but if there's people screaming at the mention of this thread and how dare I and they don't want to use it etc, well we just got the point proven of why this thread exists in the first place.

I also think there needs to be some consistency with rules and enforcement. Either separate threads for PC are allowed or they're not. You can't go digging around in people's heads what the intent it. A deal is a deal and those threads may still be useful for someone.

I don't feel like I should have to shut up and accept my place as a second class citizen here because some people don't like us. I realize the First World Problems ridiculousness of all this but at the same time the regulars here all contribute to CAG, we're active. We post deals. I'd like a little better treatment and fairness than what we are getting and I'd also like some accountability for the mods. It seems like all they ever do is react to someone complaining no matter what that is and what it's about rather than attempting to put it into context and evaluate the situation and if it's fair and makes sense to do that.

We could go to Reddit or Slick Deals or Steam forums or wherever but we don't. Just give us some fairness and respect. That's all.

I hear you, but after being here for years it doesn't seem likely to change much. I don't like the feeling of second-class citizenry here either. My vote would be for all the big contributors to go and start a new forum elsewhere, if we could get everyone to agree to it.

I entirely agree with all of this, and don't really condemn anybody's actions or how they feel they should express their thoughts/whatever on the matter, it's just personally I'm fine w/how things are and it's not really worth my time/effort to try to get equality in a place where it's not gonna happen and doesn't really impact my life all that much anyway.

Basically as long as this thread is open I have what I want here, and even if I'm getting dicked around it's really kinda meh to me.

I was thinking about how there isn't a PC-centric mod around here. They're all console people who might buy 1-2 AAA games on Steam during the big summer sale for 50% off and be happy because our prices are frequently lower than consoles. For example, IO posts a lot in the Nintendo threads, but mods only come here to warn us.

I'd like to see one of us become a mod and actively participate in the PC threads. My vote's for Neuro.

On topic: Indiegala has Tropico 5 in their store for under $14. Meh deal since you could get South Park + Tropico 5 from Uplay last year for $14.

I think it's pretty clear that this place went to the dogs when they banned Tebow.

Say what you want about the guy, but he posted DEALS. (Usually whatever the Steam deal was that day, a full 10 minutes before it went live - seriously how did he do that?)

Speaking as someone who has experience with this, I can tell you that it's a giant pain in the butt. Good forum software and hosting is not free. Properly managing and maintaining a forum is time consuming. It really should be left to people that are passionate about their vision and not just disgruntled casual posters like us.

The downside to CAG is the odd moderation and their passive aggressive way of communication. The upside to CAG is, well, that it's up and running. In the past, you could also say that it was nice to have official reps (Amazon, Blink, GMG on occasion, etc).

She was temporarily silenced, not banned. I think this forum software indicates you are banned regardless of the punishment. She was silenced for a "you're new here" post.

I'd agree, except it was Gwen. In the time I've been here, she pops her head in only once in awhile. And in most of those times, does whatever she wants, even when other mods don't agree.

Edit: I recall instances with Gamestop cases infested with roaches, and a blogger posting pictures of dolls, and I know there's more.

i thought she quit already. i have not seen her in over 6 months. the last time i saw her, was the in the ggt thread, because fakeybro posted some creepy posts.

She always "quits" and reappears months later, and does whatever she wants. She started the whole mod thing in the thread this time. Not quoting her, because I don't want to summon her. It's like if you said Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Bee... almost had me.

Anyone here looking at the Surface 3 coming out next month?

I recently got a windows tablet that I am not 100% sold on (lenovo miix2 - weird barely perceptible brightness fluctuations even with adaptive brightness turned completely off being my main problem) and may return it in the next week or so. I may use that and some amazon bing-bux to balance out the difference on it.

Then I see the specs on the MS Surface3.  I know it's not exactly a top of the line processor, but that screen (size/ratio/resolution) is exactly what I have been looking for. I wish I had the money to throw at the full Surface Pro 3 but, sadly, do not right now. I probably wouldn't bother with the keyboard cover on it as I am not really looking for a desktop/laptop replacement and would only really use it as a tablet (not to mention the fact that I already have 3 or 4 unused bluetooth keyboard/mice combos laying around).
 

To keep it somewhat relevant.. I'd probably throw steam on it and play some older and low min sys requirement games and mobile ports.

I disapprove of the moderation's heavyhandedness (which I said is probably due to their frustration with this thread/us and the personal insults a lot of us have been throwing their way), it's not professional. And it probably had something to do with the way this was handled.

However, don't act like the two of them are innocent little angels who did nothing wrong. They were stirring shit, intentionally, and posted as much in this thread. Was it funny? Absolutely, and I enjoyed the show. But like Makman said, what'd you expect to happen? They were doing it to spite the mods' stance and it worked. Mission accomplished.

Proving a valid point? Sure. But in the worst and most trolling possible way that clogged up the forum. Well-intentioned spam is still spam.

I agree that there are superthreads for a reason, we wouldn't want a million PSN or XBL deal threads either. I don't know why moderation would be opposed to this.

What I would have done, to prove the same point without coming off as obnoxious or spiteful, would be to slowly start posting separate PC deal threads, or make separate PC retail threads again (but more of them, maybe make them weekly threads like the weekly ads). But not in rapid succession and not in a "lol fuck you mods" kind of way.

That said, I agree with pasports. I think the mods are content to let us live in our little ghetto, even if they publicly say otherwise. Is it fair? Not really, but there are better ways to rock the boat than what happened.

As for how I feel about your posts getting deleted, I don't know what you posted. You probably didn't deserve it though and that ties in with that unprofessional heavy-handedness I mentioned earlier.

I put 40 hours into RoR and felt rather empty by the end of it. Its roguelike mechanics are addicting, but somehow I didn't feel like my time with it was as well spent as with FTL and Binding of Isaac, which I always think back on fondly. Come to think of it, that's how I feel about Endless Space vs. Civ V.

 
I've been given a 33% off coupon for Deathtrap and, in the absence of any actual deals, I'm even considering it.

It looks like a Dungeon Defenders kinda game, which I loved back when it launched. Does anybody have any actual experience with it? I'd ask Trav but, well...
