We watched that HBO Scientology documentary. Holy shit that's some fucked up shit.
Thanks for mentioning this. I was bored and had been meaning to watch it. In the beginning it seemed like any other standard cult thing. Then they got the Thetan nonsense and it ratcheted up quick. With a half hour left, I am not sure how much crazier this shit can get.

Would anyone here describe themselves as a tower defense guru?

I'm wondering what the general consensus is on difficulty levels in those games. Do you guys like them super hard where they take perfect strategy? Or do you like them easy?

Are checkpoints and replay features between waves useful? Or do they defeat the purpose of the genre?

I would say derrek and I would have the most experience. I played probably over 200 back when I used to own an ipod touch.

An enjoyable td game would not be easy one. I'm not sure I can say I would enjoy any game if it was too easy. And for me checkpoints between waves would defeat the purpose for them but it would depend on how the game defines "waves".

I assume you are talking about the Castle Game. How are you enjoying it so far. It is one of those hybrid TD or linear type ones?

I saw a headline on a movie site this morning: "Bill Murray Spotted on His Way to the Ghostbusters Set"

Then right below that: "Who do you think Bill Murray will play in Ghostbusters?"

Um. What? Is that a trick question?

He'll be playing Bill Murray, an actor that starred in the hit movie ghostbusters - these new ghostbusters based their real world ghost-busting franchise on the movie, believing that the paranormal science in the movie was 'pretty solid'.

According to CheapyD, Google flagged my avatar as pornographic.  Which is funny since I got my avatar FROM GOOGLE!  HA.

Oh and I guess underboob and a belly are porn?

prepare yourselves for a deluge of everybody's gone to the rapture high scoring reviews.  no ui, no prompting for interaction, and a single button and a stick for a control scheme.  review score gold.

Vita game dumping and playing achieved:

http://hackinformer.com/2015/08/09/psvita-cartridge-dumped-and-working-by-mr-gas/

It's still limited--you have to put in the game after each reboot--but with this and the arrival of Vita-native emulators (as opposed to the emulators running in the PSP engine previously) it looks like it may not be long before the Vita is a fully-functioning game pirate machine. The ability to use it in that way is still limited to getting an exploit installed, which is firmware/game dependent and is usually rare enough that there have only been (IIRC) a couple of chances in the past year. This is good IMO because I really don't want game releases to get cut because of piracy.

jackbox party pack physical release for some reason. I think I'm breaking this news to the world

How about this 1-star review, though?

No controller support in local play

Longtime fan of YDKJ here, had high hopes for this one. But unfortunately if you want to play YDKJ against a friend in local versus play, forget it. Instead of using a controller each you use smartphones which ring in by contacting a remote server on the Internet (not your local PS4). This would be okay if it worked reliably, which it doesn't. Too many times the smartphone simply stops responding during gameplay. Jackbox support forums are filled with complaints by many users. Their support has said they will not fix the game to add controller support (the previous YDKJ entry on Wii and Xbox360 supported multiple controllers). Don't waste your money.

I'm running through the MGS series before The Phantom Pain's launch, so mini poll. Should I go original PS1 MGS which I have on my PS3 or break out the gamecube, play Twin Snakes?

PS1 MGS--without going into too much detail, that version is explicitly referenced in MGS2 and 4. You won't have the manual FPS aiming that Twin Snakes added, but you shouldn't have too much trouble.

ok the random handicap generator is a dumb idea.  but we're keeping it anyways! maybe it'll count maybe not.  who knows.

series 2 of the psnot pinball arcade tourney starts now!

Rules

1. you have to be on my friends list so I can see your scores

2. tourney runs each week from Monday morning until Sunday around 6PM-ish CDT for three weeks (ends on 8/30)

3. new this time around - 2 tables per week.  I'll try to pick similar scoring tables but no promises.  I'm also picking the ones I don't have standard goals trophies done yet.  I'm going to start by just adding the two scores together, but maybe the rng multiplier will get thrown in the mix.

4. bitching about chewy and taunting co-participants is encouraged and required

5. You need to have seasons 1 and 2 available to you, buy em if you haven't yet dummy

6. console doesn't matter as long as it's made by Sony (I don't think I can see your scores from your ipad conveniently).

This weeks tables:

- CENTAUR (possibly the ugliest pinball table I've ever seen)

Playfield.jpg

- FIREPOWER

Both of these are similar being lower score, multiplier/bonus focused.

Prizes:

Nope!  I'm not made of money asshole.

Even if there was more than 1 dude in the group, whoever was Richard drew the short straw. Did that person lather on the baby oil to get into character?
Nah, just a bad wig and very short shorts. Richard probably did better than the rest of us, the leggings + legwarmers were killer when the heat and humidity kicked in.

Also: Happy belated pharm

What are you talking about? Twin Snakes may differ a little in gameplay and presentation, but they're both basically the same game as far as plot and storyline goes. I'd like to know what specific references you're speaking of that directly relate to the original and don't pertain to Twin Snakes.

I prefer Twin Snakes, but I enjoyed it as much as I did because I played the original. If I were you I'd watch the first video in a "let's play" of both of them and see how they grip you. I didn't find the FPS mode necessary so I wouldn't let that sway your decision one way or the other.

Finished Matt Hazard 1, it is very much like Retro City Rampage, a few amusing movie and video game references wrapped in pretty mediocre gameplay. Hard difficulty was rather challenging at times, though on later levels that's partly because there were lots of fire fights between some of the checkpoints or they threw a TON of enemies at you. Just have some misc. combat related trophies to get through chapter select and I'll have the plat.

There was one particular fight I had a lot of trouble with in which you are in a multi-level lobby with big glass windows and there is an attack helicopter shadowing you. As soon as you go up the stairs to the 2nd floor the attack helicopter can take pot shots at you and you have enemies to the left, right, straight ahead. So you have to bait the helicopter to start attacking you on the first floor, then quickly run up the stairs and headshot enough guys from cover before the helicopter swings around to attack you on the stairs. There is no cover on the 2nd floor that doesn't expose you to helicopter fire or enemy gun fire so have to make 2 or 3 quick enemy headshots to minimize the amount of enemies firing at you, so you can run up the nearby stairs to the 3rd floor where there is cover near the back that has your back to a dead end alcove so you are safe from helicopter and enemy gun fire.

One mechanic I did like which worked right probably 90% of the time was forward, auto-cover move. When behind cover there is the lateral cover move which is in most games. IE. two pillars side by side, you hold to the edge of pillar, press a button and the game automatically shifts you from one pillar to the next. If you want to move forward in most other cover-based games you unsticky from cover, move forward, then resticky behind new cover with a button press. In Matt Hazard, if the cover is within 8 or 10 feet in front of you, you can aim the cursor at the cover, press triangle, and your character will sprint out of cover and sticky onto the new piece of cover for you.

You have a point regarding the plot/story being pretty much the same, but
in MGS4, you play the opening of the PS1 version of MGS at the start of a later chapter.

Also, Twin Snakes has weird Matrix-style stuff that wasn't in the original:

Thats being pretty nitpicky... I don't think he's going to be missing out on anything by choosing one or the other.

And as far as the cutscene differences, I think they're only weird to you because they're different. MGS has always been pretty over-the-top/goofy at times and because of that I didn't feel like they were out of place. I could probably give you a list of scenes that take place during the series that are just as "weird" as anything in Twin Snakes, if not more.

I know I'm usually anti stupid junk toys that you people collect in here, but I am picking these up I found on a Facebook buy/sell group that I think are pretty cool. Granted I'm giving them to my kid for his bday:[attachment=16429:FB_IMG_1439218738748.jpg]

$20 for 48 packs of Nintendo cards from the 80s

Awesome find. I remember those from when I was growing up and for $20 would have snatched them up in heartbeat.

For clarification, I've played both games. I just don't know which to pick. MGS1 is dated and my grips with Twin Snakes tend to be the god awful gamecube controller and the button mapping.

Right now I'm running through the games in chronological order, not date of release.

Zombie Vikings (that game that showed up on the vote for Plus games thing) is getting a physical release. Because I'm sure everyone cares so much!

So there's this site called Games Press, which basically gathers and shares tons of video game press releases from everything from iOS to PS4.

http://www.gamespress.com/latest.asp

Just today they've already assembled like 20 press releases for different random shit.

This site makes journalist lives almost too easy. Play games for review, refresh that site and churn out article after article. Once in a while maybe do an interview with a developer.

Yeah it all came about thanks to The Castle Game.

I'm enjoying it, though it's a bit easy so far on normal difficulty (there is a hard mode as well). There are checkpoints every 2 waves and some other things that make it different and a bit too simple.

But that's what got me thinking about it. There's really no way to perfect the difficulty in one of these games. If it gets too hard people will quit and only the purists will venture on. If it's too easy then everyone will play it but then bitch about how easy and boring it was. I don't envy tower defense developers. It's like a lose-lose situation.

Vita portable batteries are down to 13.99 on Amazon. If you have a 2000, you'll need to buy a 1000 cable in order to charge the battery from the electrical socket. I've had one for a couple of years and use it on long flights. You can charge any USB device with it.

This charger is awesome. I've consistently gotten one full-charge and one half-charge out of mine when my 1000 is nearly out of power.

I actually passed on the retro set. I'm just gonna hope they make the duck hunt dog available solo, if not oh well. I'm pretty amiibo'd out.

Thanks, grabbed one. No harm in having another cheap battery charger around
