It'll get better I think.

centaur isn't actually as bad as I thought initially, it's kind of fun once you get the multiball going. firepower is still a bucket of shit though.

next week will be champion pub and something nutty like star trek because there's nothing else I need standard goals trophies on. maybe terminator 2, that one's awesome.
Sweet I was just thinking this morning that I hope Champions Pub is one of the next tables. I am in favor of Star Trek or Terminator 2 also. Or Whirlwind. Or that Wild West one. Or Firepower again because its so fun!

fuck I love pinball.

I'm sure it's pointless to hope for, but I'd love to see the rationale behind giving "less deserving" games plats while depriving "more deserving" games of them if someone asked the relevant Sony employee in an AMA or something.
To add on to what Gator said, the vast majority of people at Sony (specifically PlayStation) couldn't give us an answer anyway. We know more about trophies than 99.9% of Sony employees.

I'm sure there's a small trophy assigning team that would know the answer to that, but they're just behind the scenes guys like most the rest of us. They would never be in a position to be asked questions in the first place.

Munky asked the Submerged dev and he didn't really know either. It's also probably the last thing on most developer's minds, especially around launch. They're far more worried about bugs, press, and other matters.

There would be no rationale. As much as anyone might find it hard to believe, Sony doesn't really give a shit about trophies. While it may be a majority of us in this particular thread that care, we are definitely in the minority of gamers who do. That is even more reason why Sony likely never will care. They try to act like they do and end up with these seemingly arbitrary trophy decisions.

The more I think about it, I am starting to agree with Tyler that they should just pull a MS and let everything have a plat. As someone who is a little bit higher than the top 7000 of the world on the leader boards, I stand to lose more than most if that was adopted. It still makes a hell of a lot more sense than what we have now.
It'd be pretty wild to earn plats for stuff like Mousecraft and Kung Fu Rabbit.

Actually, here's some really good stuff on it, I figured that NeoGAF thread about it would pay results:

Makes it sound like it is now in the hands of the devs, they can basically "choose" to have a platinum trophy if they want. They probably just don't realize how to do it.

Does the code include all the DLC that the cart does? Getting a physical copy might be better if not, plus if you ahve the cart saves some space from having to install the game AND the DLC, dlc is like 3gb+ by itself.

The vita version is not bad, little laggy but very playable. Controls ok on the vita, cross save with ps3 and ps4 is pretty dope. Ps3 and vita share trophy list, ps4 is seperate.
The download version has the same two DLCs as the physical. It is taking up 5353 MB on my 16GB card.

That's pretty informative stuff, especially the second link. Maybe we could start a #PlatsForever movement and tweet those links out to indie developers.

So if a game doesnt have a plat from now on we should just call the developer a lazy asshole and be done with it.

Oh wait, is Ed in here?  Sorry dude!

I'd bet with a lot of developers (indie and aaa alike) it's hard to come up with enough trophies to make the plat total and not be totally lame or (like you said) they mostly don't care/know.

plus there's extra coding overhead and testing that people probably don't want to deal with. It's no big deal (I assume) to put a counter in that ticks up by one every time you kill a guy towards a 'Kill 1000 guys' trophy and a thread that checks that total to trigger the trophy pop. anything more exotic like 'Kill 3 guys in 5 seconds using only your hidden blade' is extra coding / potential buggyness. which is too bad because it really is a fun way to show off non-obvious intricacies in your game if it's at all more interesting than 'press X to examine everybody that's gone to the rapture.'

I actually dont mind "kill x number bad guy" trophies.  I just wish they would spread it around more in shooters.  I tend to stick with 1 gun for a lot of games unless they ask me to kill 100 guys with each gun.  And I like doing that but wont if there isnt extra incentive.

I don't mind them if they can be done in the course of a normal game. but if I have to checkpoint farm it's not so fun (uncharted?). I do really like the more obtuse ones like (some) assassins creed trophies and pinball arcade that ask you to learn the little oddities in the game.

and I just checked, dat goat simulator plat percentage is ridiculous. I would've picked the game up when it was cheap anyways, but some commons definitely sweeten the pot.

edit - oh, only 10-15 people own goat simulator on psnp.

Axiom Verge has probably the best trophy list I've seen in a long time, with a mix of story-progression, collectible, and beat-the-game-a-certain-way trophies that encouraged at least 2 playthroughs for the plat. It helps that the game is awesome in its own right.

I was kinda interested until the halfway point when they start talking about multiplayer and procedurally generated campaigns. One of the most important components in a mystery game is a strong story.
Another one of the most important components in a mystery game is to not shoehorn in a multiplayer mode.

It doesn't take much to get a list of trophies long enough to fill up a plat list with points. The best example is right here.

The people who make cheesy easy games that are just trying to grab a buck are the ones who are really missing the boat if it really is up to the devs now. While the trophy hunter group may be small, they would get a ton of sales from people looking for the latest easy trophy grab.

I think I should start a dev that makes 1 hour long platinum games for Vita. Put about 50 of them on the store at once for $4.99. Since they can't be game shared like others just sit back and watch the profits roll in.

Eh. Even if it's a small list the dev can just give them higher-value trophies. For example The Order 1886 only had 22 trophies all silver or gold except for the plat, but Child of Light had 20 trophies and no plat. CoL absolutely could have swapped out the bronzes for silvers and gold and added a plat with no changes in code except for checking at trophy award time if all the trophies have been collected (to award the plat once they have.)

It does sound more like Sony isn't doing a great job of communicating the trophy list thing to devs or pushing devs to go for the plats. It's in everybody's interest to have plats in games since there's clearly a big drive among the fanbase to go for those. Granted we may be an atypical example but we absolutely have people in here that buy games simply for an easy trophy list and plat--that may not be the norm, but there's plenty of people who will do that.

this is brilliant. then after 4-6 months put them up for $1.75 in a flash sale and sucker in all the people in this thread!

On a fun related note: I found a tiny spider living in my golds yesterday. He's crushed and hopefully burning in spider hell now, but seriously, check your golds before you wear them, and also probably shouldn't leave them untouched on the floor for 2 weeks. Just a heads up.

Untouched on the floor is the problem of course. I never leave my headphones on the floor.

Would you leave your underwear on the floor before you wore them? Didnt think so. So why leave your headphones on the floor?

by the way if anyone is ever looking at j stars victory for trophies, please be advised that it's just as grindy as any other fighting game.  I just briefly tried to mentally add up all the potential matches you'd need for the plat and it's got to be in the neighborhood of 300-400.

  • adventure mode run #1 - ~30 story matches, 60 flying ship matches, 15 quest matches, 10 tower matches (which are actually a bit too hard for me) = 115 matches
  • adventure mode run #2 - #4 - ~30 story matches each = 90 matches
  • victory road = ~110 matches I think
  • online = 20 matches
  • free battle = 20 matches (should do your taunts/tag teams/perfect guards during these)
Total = ~355

I was feeling pretty burnt out by the end of my first run through the story mode and then I discovered that it was only 1/3 of the overall fights to the plat.  pffffffft.  it is kind of fun as an arena brawler even though I don't know any of the characters but I think I'm ready to be done.

fuck Firepower. It seems like the table is setup to shoot the ball to the left outlane, and I can't keep the ball from draining (usually through the left outlane) long enough to active the damn kickback. I barely broke into the Top 5 scores on Firepower so far.

ok level with me guys - aren't the silvers just the golds but with a headphone jack coming out?

Fun thought: He came out of your ear first while you were wearing them.

All you pervs in the thread will be disappointed to know that the younger sister on Modern Family has had breast reduction surgery. At 17.

Seriously, though, those things were out of control.

I just heard Tyler squeal all the way from Utah.

Genius.

also that terminator game looks like one that even I could plat. Gonna try and find it.

Yeah, thanks asshole. Now I feel like more of a perv because the pics they just posted of her are even hotter.

Also dont distress everyone. She went from an 34F to a 34D. Thats still plenty hefty.

Does underwear in a laundry basket on the floor count?

But really though, I should probably get some kind of hook for them on my desk.

I actually did not plat that game. I got really frustrated in a section early on in the game and just said fuck it. Not worth my time. The game is terrible. And it wasnt even half ass fun terrible either. At least for me.

Yeah firepower is the worst. Getting the kickback has to be priority but almost every time I hit the last target to activate it the ball ricochets from that same target to the kickback, thus making it a huge troll. It'll take an act of congress to stay alive long enough to get the 5x goal.

As wren said, it is pretty bad. I had a bit of fun with it since my friend played it couch co-op with me. I can only imagine how terrible it would be to try and play solo.

If you still want to play it, if your Gamestop does not have a copy of it it might be the only one in the US without a copy. It should not be hard to find.

My Golds are either in the bag they came with on a shelf below the PS4 or on the shelf below connected to the PS4 via that short USB cable they came with charging.  While not ON the floor they aren't too much up from that.  If a spider wanted to crawl into them I don't think being on shelf 2 or 3 feet of the floor is going to help much.

One near work has it though. Score.
